Ursinus Defeats McDaniel in Centennial Match

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Cannon (Garrison, NY/James I' O'Neil) and senior midfielder Kaitlin Glenn (Dover, DE/Caesar Rodney) each had three goals as Ursinus (3-5, 1-1 Centennial) snapped a four-game losing streak with 11-10 win over McDaniel (5-3, 1-2 Centennial) Saturday afternoon.

Cannon scored two of her three goals in the second half, including what turned out to be the game-winner with 8:02 left. Glenn scored two of her goals in the final 9:17 of the first half, which was apart of a 5-1 scoring run for Ursinus, who trailed the Green Terror 5-2 with 16:49 left.

Freshman midfielder Lindsey Urban (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) added two goals, while junior midfielder Lisa Clark (Media, PA/Penncrest), freshman attack Hannah Kuranz (Landenberg, PA/Sanford) and junior attack Catie Cameron (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) each had a goal in the win.

For McDaniel, junior attack Erinn Hopkins had three goals while junior midfielder Chelsea Ferruzzi and senior attack Kerrie Wuenschel each added in two.

Holding a 7-6 halftime lead, the Bears saw McDaniel jump up 8-7 with two goals in the first 5:34 of the half. Ferruzzi tied the score with a goal at 28:08, then Wuenschel scored with 24:16 left to give the Green Terror the lead.

Ursinus struck back with three straight goals to take the lead for good, starting with a free position shot from Cannon with 18:37 left in the contest. Glenn's goal with 17:07 left gave Ursinus a 9-8 lead, followed by another free position goal from Cameron with 15:48 left for a 10-8 advantage.

Ursinus senior goalkeeper Allyson Shicora (Media, PA/Strath Haven) made 18 saves on 34 shots faced to improve to 3-5 on the year. Green Terror senior netminder Sarah White had nine saves.

Defensively, Glenn and Clark both picked up three groundballs while Clark and Cannon each had three draw controls.

Ursinus will travel to Salisbury on Tuesday to take on the Sea Gulls. Salisbury is ranked second in the country, and marks the second ranked opponent for the Bears in the last three games.

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Kaitlin Glenn scored two of her three goals during a 6-0 run that turned a 5-2 deficit into a 7-5 lead, carrying Ursinus to an 11-10 win over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action on Saturday.

Elizabeth Cannon recorded an assist to go with a second hat trick for the Bears (3-5, 1-1 CC), who got 18 saves from Allyson Shicora in the win.

Erinn Hopkins (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) paced the Green Terror (5-3, 1-2 CC) with a natural hat trick of her own.

Trailing 7-6 at the intermission on a Jennifer Stone (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) free-position goal 51 seconds before the end of the first half, Chelsea Ferruzzi (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) and Kerrie Wuenschel (Sykesville, Md./South Carroll) finished solo runs to give McDaniel an 8-7 lead just 5:44 into the second half.

Tallies a minute and a half apart from Cannon and Glenn turned that one-goal deficit into a one-goal edge for the hosts with 17:07 to play.

At the 44:12 mark, Catie Cameron converted a third Ursinus free-position goal to push the lead to two.

Brittany Baer (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and Wuenschel sandwiched Cannon's third marker to set the final margin with just shy of seven minutes on the clock.

Kelly Scheler (Forest Hills, Md./C. Milton Wright) staked McDaniel to a 1-0 lead 1:36 into the game before Lindsey Urban and Lisa Clark gave Ursinus a 2-1 lead at the 4:56 mark.

A Ferruzzi solo run evened the game at 2-all with 6:23 elapsed.

After Hopkins' three tallies capped a 4-0 burst over a 6-minute, 48-second span to put the visitors on top 5-2, Glenn finished a solo run at the 20:43 mark to spark the six-goal flurry.

Glenn capped the burst with a second unassisted tally at the 28:29 mark.

The Green Terror returns to action at Bryn Mawr on Monday. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
