Vixens Fend off Monarchs for Victory

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Sweet Briar lacrosse held off Methodist University on Saturday to pick up the 14-11 road win. With the non-conference win, the Vixens move to 3-4 overall on the season.

After Methodist jumped on the board first at the two-minute mark, Sweet Briar answered with its first goal in the fifth minute. The Vixens then used a three-goal scoring run and a four-goal run to pull ahead 11-5 at half.

Methodist staged a comeback in the second frame, scoring six on Sweet Briar. But the Vixen defense held strong, keeping the Monarchs from pulling any closer than four until the final minute of play.

Juniors Megan Behrle (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson)and Meredith Newman (Charlottesville, Va./Tandem) combined for seven goals on attack. Both also picked up to assists.

Sweet Briar continues its road play on Tuesday as the team travels to Washington and Lee University for a 4:30 p.m. game.
