Visiting Griffins Turn Back Lady Chargers
Orangeburg, NY (3/29/08) -- The visiting Griffins of Chestnut Hill College turned back the Dominican College Lady Chargers lacrosse team, 20-10 this evening at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.
Dominican trailed Chestnut Hill, 7-6 with just under seventeen minutes left in the first half when the Griffins went on a 7-0 run to extend the lead to 14-6 at the intermission. In the second half, the Griffins continued to dominate the offensive play adding six more goals, while the Lady Chargers netted four goals for the final 20-10 score.
Stephanie Carlyle (Essex, MD) led all scorers with seven goals. Junior Katie Donovan (Conshohocken, PA) added six goals, while Maryanne Glass (Baltimore, MD) netted four goals. Tiffanie Stanton (Vineland, NJ) had two goals and Carley Glass (Baltimore, MD) had the other Griffin goal and led the team with two assists.
The Lady Chargers were led by Silje Karlsen (Vernon, NJ) with four goals and one assist, while Amanda Matos (Vernon, NY) scored three goals. Sara Kiernan (Saugerties, NY) added two goals and junior Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY) netted the other DC goal.
DC goalie Lindsey Grunfast (Saugerties, NY) had 15 saves in the loss, while Stephanie Jordan (Tylersport, PA) had 13 saves for the Griffins.
With the win Chestnut Hill improves to 2-6 overall, while Dominican falls to 1-4.
The Lady Chargers are back in action on Monday when they host Georgian Court University. Game time is slated for 4:00 pm on the DC Lacrosse Field.
