Griffin, Gendron Boost Bentley Over Saint Anselm

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Sophomore Jaclyn Griffin (Barrington, Ill./Barrington HS) and senior Beth Gendron (Tyngsboro, Mass./Tyngsboro HS) each scored four goals to boost Bentley to a 13-9 win over Saint Anselm in Northeast-10 Conference women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at the Southern New Hampshire University Athletic Complex. Griffin also tallied a pair of assists for a six-point game.

The Falcons (3-3, 2-2 NE-10) jumped out to an early lead with five straight goals to open the game as Gendron and Griffin each netted a pair in that stretch. Junior Michaela Rocha (Rye, N.H.) single-handedly got the Hawks (2-5, 1-3 NE10) back into the game, scoring four straight goals as part of a six-goal performance for the afternoon. Sophomore Erica de Silva (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth HS) scored just before halftime to give Bentley a 6-4 lead at the break.

Saint Anselm scored a pair of goals in the first three minutes of the second half to tie the game with the tallies coming from seniors Arden Lyons (Westford, Mass.) and Tiea Kurlowecz (Concord, Mass.). Bentley pulled ahead again with goals from senior Liz Goddard (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough HS) and Griffin, but the Hawks struck back, tying the game at 8-8 with 12:11 to go after freshman Courtney Ford (Concord, Mass.) and Rocha scored.

A string of five straight goals in the final ten minutes put the Falcons in the lead for good. Gendron got the spurt started with a tally at 8:32 and Griffin scored the eventual game-winner at 7:30. Goddard, Gendron and freshman Leigh Tedeschi (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury HS) gave Bentley a five-goal cushion before Rocha scored in the waning seconds to account for the 13-9 final tally.

Sophomore Christina Guglielmo (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven HS) made nine saves to earn the win for Bentley, while freshman Katherine O'Hara (Norwell, Mass.) stopped 15 shots at the other end for Saint Anselm. The Falcons held a 31-25 advantage in shots in the game.

The Falcons are in action again on Wednesday, hosting NE-10 rival Stonehill at 7:00 p.m.
