No. 16 Dickinson Hangs Tough with No. 2 Gettysburg

Carlisle, PA -- The Dickinson College women's lacrosse team may not have been able to knock off the second-ranked team in the nation, but the Red Devils did turn in a solid performance in a 12-7 setback to Gettysburg on Tuesday.

The #16-ranked Devils pulled in front 4-2 with 19:27 remaining in the first half and held the lead until the Bullets tied the game on a pair of Katie Ceglarski goals at 17:56 and 12:05. The Bullets took a 6-4 advantage into the break, closing out the first half with a 4-0 run. They struck first in the second half before the Devils answered with a pair of goals in a span of just 24 seconds to pull within a goal at 7-6.

Gettysburg stretched the lead back to three with 12:48 remaining in the game. First-year Lucy West (Bethesda, MD/Holton-Arms) intercepted a pass and scored to make the score 9-7 with just under 11 minutes to play. Ceglarksi netted her fifth goal of the day with 9:00 on the clock to give the Bullets a little insurance. They added a pair of late goals for the final of 12-7.

Sophomore Alysa Crellin (Little Compton, RI/Portsmouth Abbey School) matched a career-high with another dominant performance on the circle, controlling 10 draws. She led the attack with three goals as well.

Amy Jennings (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh) and Sara Braniekcki (Ocean City, MD/Stephen Decatur) each tallied two assists. Jennings fed classmate Abby Larson (Easton, MD/Gunston Day) who went airborne to finish a quick-stick goal that put the Devils in front 3-2.

Jessie Clark (Devon, PA/Conestoga) made just five saves, but played outstanding in goal for the Devils. Ceglarski led all scorers with five goals and an assist as the Bullets improve to 12-0 and 5-0 in the Centennial Conference.

The Red Devils slip to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the CC. They host Elizabethtown at 4:30 on Friday.

CARLISLE, Pa. – The second-ranked Gettysburg College women's lacrosse team received all it could handle from No. 16 Dickinson College, but the Bullets held off the Red Devils 12-7 in Centennial Conference action on Tuesday. With the victory, Gettysburg remained undefeated on the season (12-0), including 5-0 against conference foes, while Dickinson (7-2, 3-1 CC) suffered its first league loss of the spring.

Senior Katie Ceglarski (Darien, Conn./Darien) led the visitors with six points coming on five goals and one assist, the latter marking the 100th of her career. She is just the second Bullet to reach 100 career assists and only the eighth to accomplish the feat in the history of the Centennial Conference. Senior Megan Moore (Chestertown, Md./Gunston Day School) and sophomore Nina Emala (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) each notched a pair of goals, the former adding an assist, while senior Jamie Giffuni (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown) dished out three helpers to reach 100 career points.

Gettysburg took a 2-1 lead in the early going on goals by Emala and Ceglarski sandwiched around a Red Devil score, but the hosts fired off three unanswered scores to take a 4-2 advantage at 19:27. Ceglarski had the Bullet answer with back-to-back goals to knot the game and sophomore Hollis Stahl (Hightstown, N.J./Peddie School) and Emala closed a 4-0 run as Gettysburg took a 6-4 lead at the break.

Ceglarski made it a 5-0 run and a three-goal advantage (7-4) just under 10 minutes into the final period. Dickinson sliced the deficit to just one (7-6) with goals by Sunnie Ko and Alysa Crelin just 32 seconds apart at 17:56 and 17:32, respectively. The Bullets fired right back as Moore tallied her first goal just 13 seconds after the Red Devils' last score to retake a two-goal lead. Senior Krissy Browning (Baldwin, Md./Fallston) upped the margin to three (9-6) with an unassisted goal at 12:48.
