New No. 1 Sea Gulls Fly by Ursinus in First Night Game
SALISBURY, Md. - In their first game ranked No. 1 since April 2006 the Salisbury University Sea Gulls cruised to a 20-8 victory over Ursinus College in the first-ever women's lacrosse night game at Sea Gull Stadium. This is the ninth time the maroon and gold scored 20 or more goals in a game this season. Salisbury has won 14 straight games and wrapped up a successful 4-0 homestand as the next time SU will play at home will be in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament later this month.
Salisbury (14-0) made two five-goal runs in the first half, including a run from the start of the game until the 19:24 mark where sophomore Kim Cudmore (three goals, one assist) completed a hat trick in the stretch. Sophomore Beth Rhodey added three goals for the Sea Gulls, including two in the second five-goal run.
Courtney Sorensen, Logan Bilderback, Jessica Liston and Meaghan Osipowich each netted two goals for the maroon and gold. Senior Sue Ackermann dished out four assists and netted one goal in the win. Alexis Morrell, Meghan Ricketts, Jessica Chmielewski and Ashleigh Gender each added one goal and one assist for the Sea Gulls and Lindy Walsh rounded out the scoring with one goal.
The Sea Gulls outshot Ursinus 38-18 and led in ground balls 19-11. Salisbury was led in the first half between the pipes by junior Sonja Stuart who made two saves to earn the win. Sophomore Natalie Pappas took over in the second half and ended with five saves. In the goal for Ursinus College was Allyson Shicora who made 13 saves. The Bears (3-6) were led by Kaitlin Glenn's three goals.
Salisbury will travel to No. 18 St. Mary's (Md.) College on Saturday, April 5, for a 3:00 p.m. CAC game.
