Maritime Throttled by Montclair State

THROGGS NECK, NY - Montclair State was winning 15-0 at the end of the first half and never looked back, going on to win the Skyline Conference match-up against Maritime College 21-1 at Reinhart Field on April 2.

Maritime was unable to generate much offense against a stingy Red Hawks defense that allowed only 2 shots, while Maritime's defense gave up 30. Montclair also had 32 ground balls to Maritime's 15 and went 5-of-6 in clear attempts while Maritime went 2-of-5. Turnovers were another key factor in the game as the Privateers had 22 while Montclair had only 15.

It was rookie Andria Thornton (Saugerties, NY/ Saugerties) who scored the Privateer's lone goal of the game with just under a minute left, assisted by Maggie Klimkowski (Wantagh, NY/ Kellenberg Memorial). Freshman Kaitlin Murrary (Wall Township, NJ/ North Warren Regional) offered up 1 shot and 2 ground balls and junior Diane Kruse (Port Jefferson Station, NY/ St. Anthony's) had 3 ground balls.

On the Montclair side, 10 different players combined for goals. Leading the offensive attack was Bethany Blaine with 4 goals, followed by Lauren Adams with 3. Marykate DiBenedetto, Jennifer Tanis, Morgan MacPhee and Kristin Quigley each had 2 goals.

Montclair's record now improves to 3-4 (2-0 Skyline) while Maritime falls to 1-7 (0-1 Skyline). The Privateers will next be in action on Saturday, April 5 in another Skyline Conference game against Ramapo College.
