No. 2 Princeton Improves to 8-0 with Win at Columbia

NEW YORK--The second-ranked Princeton women's lacrosse team made quick work of Columbia Wednesday night at Wien Stadium, jumping to a 4-0 lead 10 minutes into the game and pulling away in the second half for a 15-4 win over the Lions that kept the Tigers unbeaten halfway through their regular-season schedule.

Princeton (8-0, 2-0 Ivy) used a similar formula Wednesday night as it has all season, using a dominant first half to take an insurmountable lead and showing outstanding balance on the offensive end. The Tigers led 7-1 at halftime and limited Columbia (3-6, 0-4 Ivy) to just three first-half shots, and 10 of the 18 field players who saw action for Princeton scored a goal.

For the fifth time in eight games this season, Princeton never trailed. Lizzy Drumm scored 46 seconds into the game after the Tigers controlled the first draw, and Ashley Amo's unassisted goal 10:26 into the first half made it 4-0 Tigers.

After the Lions' Holly Glynn got her team on the board 20 minutes into the game, Princeton extended to its 7-1 halftime lead thanks to three goals in a 2:31 span, the final goal coming on a free position shot by Katie Lewis-Lamonica with 6:32 left in the half.

Columbia got within 10-3 after Brittany Shannon scored with nine minutes left in the game, but two goals in a 26-second span by senior Courtney Bird would force the running clock that comes with a 10-goal lead with just less than six minutes left in the game.

Christine Casaceli led the Tigers with three goals, while Amo and Kristin Schwab each scored two along with Bird. Shannon scored three of Columbia's four goals.

The Tigers outshot the Lions 28-7 for the game. Princeton also won 15 of the game's 21 draw controls and won the ground ball battle by an 18-8 margin.

Princeton improved to 11-0 all-time against Columbia. The Tigers have outscored the Lions 181-37 in those 11 games and scored 15 or more goals in 10 of the 11 games.

Jenna Washabaugh, Holly McGarvie, Kristin Morrison and Caroline Markowitz also scored for Princeton, which has now outscored its opponents 55-25 in the first half this season.

The Tigers host Yale (8-3, 2-1 Ivy) Saturday afternoon at Class of 1952 Stadium at 2:00 p.m.
