PHILADELPHIA--The Quakers dominated the first half against Johns Hopkins and took a 6-2 lead to the break, but the Blue Jays made a charge in the second that fell just one goal short. Allison Ambrozy scored a hat trick in the win. It was a game of halves where every possession and every second counted, especially in the second stanza when Johns Hopkins came bounding back into the game and gave Penn a run for its money.

To break it down, the first half saw Penn outshoot JHU 18-5; but after the break, JHU outshot Penn 19-6. On the draw, Penn controlled seven to JHU's two in the first but Hopkins took six in the second and Penn nabbed four. One of those draws for the Blue Jays came in the final critical moments when Lauren Schwartzman won control and streaked downfield and fired a shot to tie, but Penn goalkeeper Sarah Waxman came up with the big save and ran out the remaining 11 seconds.

That goal would have completed a hat trick for Schwartzman who finished the game with two goals and one assist. But instead Penn's Ambrozy was the only triple-goal player of the game. It was the senior's third career hat trick and first since her sophomore campaign.

The major stat in the game came on fouls and free-position attempts. Three of Hopkins' goals in the second period came from free-position shots. Two of those three were in the last five minutes, giving the Blue Jays a glimpse of a comeback.

In the first, newcomer Giulia Giordano scored off a feed from Rachel Manson just 30 seconds into the action. Kadie Stamper and JHU would not be denied scoring two and a half minutes later. The Quakers locked down and tallied five more goals before the break, only letting up for Brett Bathras to hit the net at 18:10.

The second started where the first had left off with goals from Melissa Lehman and Ambrozy--to complete her three, but after Hannah Rudloff scored at 24:43 the Red and Blue fell silent and watched JHU score five goals to make it agonizingly close.

Sarah Waxman made nine saves in her eighth win of the season. For Hopkins, Lizzie O'Farrell had six saves. In the end, seven Quakers scored and two more had at least one point in the win.

The Quakers will wrap up its three-game homestand with an Ivy match-up against Harvard. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. at Franklin Field.

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Johns Hopkins rallied from a 9-3 deficit in the second half to make it a one-goal game with just 16 seconds remaining in the game. But senior Lauren Schwarzmann's (Sykesville, MD/Century) last second shot was saved and #8 Penn escaped with a 9-8 win over #15 Johns Hopkins. The Blue Jays fall to 5-5 on the season while the Quakers improve to 8-1.

Giulia Giordana put Penn on the board just 30 seconds in on a pass from Rachel Manson behind the cage. Senior Kadie Stamper (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) evened the score at 2:59. Schwarzmann, from the top of the arc, fed Stamper down low who scored on a low wrap-around shot. The Quakers then scored three goals in just over five minutes to take a 4-1 lead.

Sophomore Paige Ibello (Cockeysville, MD/Maryvale) earned a free position at 11:46. But instead of shooting, she passed across the arc to sophomore Brett Bathras (Severna Park, MD/Severn) who fired home a low shot to the far post. Emma Spiro answered for Penn at 17:12, when she dodged the left alley and shot across her body inside the far post. Allison Ambrozy extended the Quakers lead to 6-2 as she scored on a high shot from up top.

Coming out of the half, Penn got quick goals from Melissa Lehman and Ambrozy to push out to an 8-2 lead with 25:56 to play. Schwarzmann quickly answered for the Blue Jays, scoring on a free position just 17 seconds after Ambrozy's tally. A Hannah Rudloff goal with 24:43 to play made it a 9-3 game in favor of Penn.
