No. 7 Lynchburg Breezes Past Whittier

LYNCHBURG, VA – The 7th ranked Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team breezed past the visiting Poets of Whittier College 16-6 Wednesday night from Shellenberger Field.

Lynchburg led 2-1 after Anthony Lackey from Whittier scored a goal with 10:51 left in the first quarter, but LC would reel off seven straight unanswered goals to pull away. Stephen Weis (St. Louis, MO/Christian Brothers) and Tyler Tolson (Luthervile, MD/Loyola Blakefield) each posted four goals while Ryan Cranston (West Chester, PA/Henderson) had two goals and two assists and Michael Mundorf (Catonsville, MD/Mt. Saint Joseph) tallied two assists.

Norby King (Bryn Mawr, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) went 9-for-10 on face-offs with four groundballs while Jeff Schwartz (New City, NY/Tabor Academy) won 10 of 12 face-offs along with five groundballs. Garrett Curran (Hull, MA/Tabor Academy) played 54 minutes in goal, allowing three scores while making seven saves and scooping up four groundballs.

Colt Adams and Anthony Lackey each scored twice for Whittier (6-5) while netminder Ben Brown stopped 13 shots. Lynchburg outshot the Poets 44-29, held a 36-24 advantage in groundballs, and won 21 of 26 face-offs.

Lynchburg (7-2) returns to the field on Saturday to battle the Quakers of Guilford College at 2:00 p.m. to open the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) schedule. The 2003 ODAC Championship squad will also be honored at half-time.
