Bates Downs Colby in NESCAC Match

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Will Paddock (Denver, Colo.) finished with 16 saves and had a shutout for more than three quarters as the Bates College men's lacrosse team took a 9-2 win over Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Wednesday night at Bill Alfond Field.

Justin Simon (Canaan, N.H.) paced the Bobcats (3-6 overall, 2-3 NESCAC) with a pair of goals. Les Wade (Randolph, N.J.), Mike Medeiros (Concord, Mass.), and Craig Blake (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) all had one goal and one assist. Brent Morin (Hanover, N.H.) also had a pair of points with two assists.

Bates only led 1-0 after the opening quarter, but scored three times in the first 10:24 of the second quarter to go up 4-0 at halftime. The Bobcats extended the lead to 5-0 after three quarters.

Colby (5-2, 2-2) did cut the lead to 6-2 with 9:50 left in the game, but Bates scored the final three goals in the last 5:32 of play to pull away again.

Todd Boertzel (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) and Whit McCarthy (Darien, Conn.) had goals for the Mules.
