Vecchio Nets Six to Lead Le Moyne Over Niagara
BUFFALO, NY -- Senior Whitney Vecchio scored six times and dished out two assists in leading the Dolphins to a 16-6 victory over Niagara on Friday. The win marks the fifth straight win for the Dolphins and improves their record to 8-4 on the season. Niagara falls to 2-4 with the loss.
The Dolphins jumped out to a quick 3-0 in the first half on three straight goals from Kylie Rosette, Vecchio and Mia Valletta. Niagara broke through with their first goal midway through the first period as Courtney Formato found the back of the net. Over the final 12 minutes of the first half, Le Moyne outscored Niagara 6-1 to take a commanding 9-2 lead into the intermission.
Le Moyne put the game out of reach early in the second half as the Dolphins scored four straight goals to push their lead to 13-2. The Purple Eagles scratched for three more goals before Vecchio, Meghan Burgoon and Nerissa Barzee scored down the stretch to secure the victory.
Joining Vecchio in the scoring column was Kylie Rosette, Michelle Lissner, Rebekah Elmer and Meghan Burgoon with two goals each. Nerissa Barzee and Mia Valletta each added one apiece.
Senior Samantha Falcone anchored a Le Moyne defense that allowed only 13 Niagara shots with six saves in goal. Rianne Furrugia and Erralyn Thomas led Niagara with two goals each.
Le Moyne returns to action on Sunday, April 6th, when they host Canisius at the Niland Athletic Complex.
