#16 Dickinson Edges Elizabethtown in Sudden Victory

Carlisle, PA - Senior defender Kate Sanford (Bethesda, MD/Holton-Arms) collected a ground ball and drove to goal, scoring with 1:47 remaining in the second overtime to lead the Dickinson College women's lacrosse team past Elizabethtown 9-8 on Friday afternoon.

The Blue Jays struck first, scoring a pair of goals in the opening four minutes and led 3-1 with just under 17 minutes to play in the first half. The Devils answered with back-to-back goals to tie the game, 3-3 at halftime.

Sunny Ko (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) converted a free position attempt to put the Devils in front 4-3 at the 26:03 mark.

In the final 15 minutes the Devils found themselves trailing 5-4, 6-5 and 7-6. The Devils tied the game with 2:47 left in regulation on a goal by Alysa Crellin (Little Compton, RI/Portsmouth Abbey School).

They regained the lead with 17 seconds left in the first half of the first overtime. Katie Foley found the net with 1:06 left to force a second extra period. The teams traded possessions but failed to score in the first three minutes of sudden-victory.

Sanford scooped up a loose ball just across midfield and went straight to goal for the winner.

First-year goaltender Jessie Clark (Devon, PA/Conestoga) played outstanding in the cage, making 16 saves. She made a game-saving save and the end of regulation and stopped four shots in overtime.

Jenn Hawkins turned in a great performance in the Blue Jay net as well, stopping 15 shots on the day.

Crellin led the Devil attack with four goals and four draw controls. Amy Jennings (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh) added two goals and an assist.

Abby Larson (Easton, MD/Gunston Day) controlled four draw as well, adding four caused turnovers and three ground balls on the day. Ana Sokol (Colts Neck, NJ/Peddie School) chipped in with three ground balls and three draws while Lexie Kob (Collegeville, PA/Springford) picked-up four GBs and caused three turnovers.

Stephanie Kreis led Elizabethtown (4-4) with four goals and five ground balls.

The Red Devils improve to 7-3. They return to Centennial Conference action on Saturday, traveling to Bryn Mawr College for a 1:00 pm start.
