Rensselaer Downs Ursinus to Go 8-2
TROY, N.Y. – Sophomore attack Devin Arnold (Buffalo, NY/Canisius) scored four goals to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's lacrosse team to a 9-5 win over Ursinus College in a non-league game at Harkness Field. With the win, RPI improves to 8-2 overall. Ursinus falls to 5-6.
The visiting Bears got on the board first on a goal by sophomore attack Eric Farris (Pottsgrove, PA/Pottsgrove) five minutes into the first quarter but the Red Hawks scored the next seven goals for a 7-1 lead at halftime.
Arnold scored three of RPI's first four goals – three in the first quarter – before Josh Secora (Evergreen, CO/Golden), Alex MacDiarmid (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) and Nick Billy (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) all connected in the second quarter. PJ McComb (Newington, CT/Newington) set up two of the goals, both of which came from close range. Secora also had a first half assist.
Ursinus sophomore Dane Mangin (Willow Grove, PA/Archbishop Wood) scored the next two goals and Jason Orlando's (Morton, PA/Springfield) goal early in the fourth quarter pulled the Bears to within 7-4. Arnold and Mike Sampson (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington) countered for the Red Hawks at 3:41 and 1:31, respectively, before Ursinus scored in the with 30 seconds remaining for the final margin.
Junior Ryan DeJordy (Albany, NY/Columbia) earned the win in goal, stopping nine shots. Junior Tony Aquilino (Abington, PA/Archbishop Wood) stopped 10 shots on the other end.
Rensselaer returns to action on Tuesday when #4 Middlebury comes to Troy for a 4:30 pm faceoff. Ursinus hosts league foe Haverford on Wednesday at 4:00 pm.

TROY, N.Y. – After letting up the first goal of the game, RPI rattled off seven straight goals as the Red Hawks (8-2) defeated Ursinus (5-6) 9-5 Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match. This marked the first meeting between the two schools.
Ursinus took an early 1-0 lead just 4:46 into the contest, as sophomore attack Eric Farris (Pottsgrove, PA/Pottsgrove) scored on an assist from sophomore attack Pat Nagle (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville).
After the Red Hawks scored seven straight, Ursinus ended the run with a goal with 12 seconds left in the first half as senior midfielder Dane Mangin (Willow Grove, PA/Archbishop Wood) scored his first goal of the game.
Mangin added his second goal of the game at 10:44 in the third, which got Ursinus to within 7-3.
In the beginning of the fourth, Ursinus got to within three at 7-4 as junior attack Jason Orlando (Morton, PA/Springfield) scored unassisted. However, that would be as close as Ursinus would get, as RPI scored two more to take a 9-4 lead.
Ursinus tacked on one last goal with 30 seconds left as freshman midfielder Tony Ubertaccio (Green Village, NY/Delbarton) scored on an Orlando assist.
Defensively, RPI had 40 groundballs, while Ursinus picked up 25. Junior goalkeeper Tony Aquilino (Abington, PA/Archbishop Wood) had a team and game-high six groundballs, with freshman midfielder Matt Angle (Manchester, MD/North Carroll) grabbing five.
Aquilino finished with 10 saves on the day.
Ursinus will host Haverford on Wednesday afternoon.
