Hanover, N.H. - For the fourth straight year, the Dartmouth vs. Penn men's lacrosse game was decided by a single goal. For the third straight year, Penn came out on top, scoring the gamewinner twenty-eight seconds into overtime for the 9-8 victory on a sunny afternoon on Memorial Field. The win puts Penn at 3-1 in the Ivy League and 5-3 overall while Dartmouth drops to 4-5 and 0-2 in the League.

Dartmouth jumped on the board first as Brian Koch (Rye, N.Y.) kept his scoring streak of 26 games alive on a goal with an assist from Jonathan Livadas (Wilmington, Del.) at 10:01 of the first period. An unassisted goal one minute later from Penn's Alex Weber started a run of seven unanswered goals from the Quakers that looked to put the game out of reach for the Big Green. Penn's leading scorer Craig Andrzejewski had two of his three goals during the stretch, putting the Quakers up 7-1 before an unassisted, man-up goal by Livadas (Wilmington, Del.) with three minutes to go in the first half put Dartmouth back into the game.

Josh Gillam (Peterborough, Ont.) continued to shine for the Big Green, scoring three straight goals, a man-up tally to end the half at 7-3, and the only two goals in the third quarter by either team. Gillam took a Brian Koch feed to goal with 7:34 to go in the third before a Penn penalty put Dartmouth on the man-advantage, which Gillam took full advantage of, scoring with an assist from Jimmy Mullen (Mt. Lebanon, Pa.) to bring the Green within two at 7-5 with 1:59 left in the period. Gillam ended the game with three goals for his third straight multiple point game.

Andrzejewski completed his hat trick with an assist from Corey Winkoff to open the fourth, putting Penn up 8-5. The rest of the quarter belonged to the Big Green. Dartmouth used goals from last season's Ivy Rookie of the Year Ari Sussman (New Haven, Conn.), Mullen and Tim Daniels (Duxbury, Mass.), with his first of the season. to complete the comeback, tying the game at eight with 2:14 left to play.

In the extra session Penn won the faceoff and called an immediate timeout. When play resumed, Michael Novosel (Somers, N.Y.) stopped a shot by Alex Weber. The ensuing loose ball was corraled by Andrzejewski who tossed it to Garvey Heiderman for the gamewinning goal with 3:32 on the clock.

Novosel played the entire game in goal for Dartmouth stopping 11 shots. Chris Casey had 10 saves for the Quakers.

Dartmouth now heads to Cornell to take on the No. 7 ranked Big Red Saturday, April 12. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.

HANOVER, N.H. - A year ago, Penn overcame a sizable deficit with a huge comeback to knock off Dartmouth at Franklin Field. Saturday, at the Big Green's Memorial Field, the Quakers were the ones who built up a large lead -- and it was the Big Green who staged the stirring comeback.

The end result was the same as last year, though. Penn scored, this time just 28 seconds into overtime, and emerged victorious, 9-8. With the win, the Quakers (5-3, 3-1 Ivy) have now defeated Dartmouth three straight years, all of them in one-goal games.

Garvey Heiderman was the ultimate hero in this contest; he finished a feed from Craig Andrzejewski just 28 seconds into the extra session, after the Quakers had won the faceoff and taken a timeout to set the offense. For Heiderman, it marked the second time he has ended an Ivy League contest in overtime -- he also had the game-winner last year against Yale.

Andrzejewski had three goals to go with his game-winning assist, and Alex Weber also scored three times. Freshman Corey Winkoff had two assists, while Al Kohart and J.J. Lian each contributed a goal and an assist.
