Presidents Throttle Tri-State for Second Win of Season

MEDINA, Ohio Freshman attacker Courtney Schrock (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) fired in a game-high five goals as Washington & Jefferson earned its second women's lacrosse victory of its inaugural season after defeating Tri-State (Ind.), 18-3, on Saturday afternoon at Medina High School.

The Presidents (2-3) jumped out to an 11-2 halftime lead and cruised to the victory. Freshman Amber Kuntz (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) played a solid game in goal for W&J and finished with nine saves.

Schrock leads the Presidents this season with 18 goals. Junior midfielder Laura Peery (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) added four goals to increase her season total to 15.

Freshmen Shannon Rainey (Severna Park, Md./Archbishop Spalding) and Nikki Lu (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) both recorded hat tricks with three goals, while junior midfielder Valerie Orzechowski (Erie, Pa./McDowell) notched a pair of goals.

Sam Kumfer, Kayla Grieser and Brittany Witkiewicz all had one goal for the Thunder (0-4).

Washington & Jefferson continues its schedule on Tuesday when traveling to Saint Vincent for a 4:00 pm contest.
