Justin Rand (Pittsford/Pittsford Mendon) scored at the 2:26 mark of the second overtime to lift the visiting Geneseo Blue Knights to a 13-12 victory against host Oneonta State today in the SUNYAC opener for both squads. The game might have ended in the first overtime when Oneonta senior Kevin Gregory (Baldwin/Baldwin) had a point-blank shot that was caught by Geneseo goalie Dennis Costanza (Webster/Webster Schroeder). Costanza made 12 saves in picking up his third win of the season.

Oneonta came all the way back to tie the score at 10 apiece when sophomore Matt Harvey (Bay Shore/Islip) scored an unassisted goal at 13:25 of the fourth period. Classmate Scott Weiner (Suffern/Suffern) put the Red Dragons ahead 11-10 with an unassisted goal three minutes later. Junior Tom Costanza (Webster/Webster Schroeder) scored the game-tying goal for Geneseo (6-1/1-0) at 6:32 with an assist from senior Mike Pizzuto (Amherst/Amherst). Junior Dylan Bittlingmaier (Pittsford/Pittsford Mendon), who led the Blue Knights with four goals in the game, gave Geneseo the lead with two minutes to go in the contest. Senior Tyler Dunne (Cazenovia/Cazenovia) forced the extra sessions with a dramatic game-tying goal for Oneonta (3-5/0-1) with three seconds remaining in the game.

Geneseo looked as though they would run away with this one in the first period after breaking open a 2-2 tie with six unanswered goals that spilled over to the second period. Senior Steve Hutton (Webster/Webster Thomas) notched a pair of goals including the Blue Knights only man up goal of the game with 1:22 left in the first period.

Oneonta cut the lead by two with a pair of goals midway through the second period, both coming 27 seconds apart. Defenseman Rob Hildebrand (Wantagh/Wantagh) scored an unassisted goal at the 8:40 mark followed by Dunne's first goal of the game at 8:13. Geneseo came back with a pair of goals of its own to get its lead back to six goals at 10-4. Costanza scored with an assist from freshman Craig Lange (Syracuse/CBA) and then Lange added an unassisted goal 22 seconds later.

After trailing 10-5 at halftime, Oneonta shut Genseo out in the third period while scoring four goals including Dunne's second goal at :08 seconds to go in the period to trail only 10-9 entering the fourth period. Dunne led Oneonta with three goals in the game.

Oneonta will travel to Potsdam this coming Wednesday for another SUNYAC contest beginning at 4:00 p.m.
