#15 St. Lawrence Runs Past Hamilton in Liberty Play
CLINTON, N.Y. -- Will McKee '10 and Kevin Russell '08 each notched two goals and three assists to lead nationally ranked No. 15 St. Lawrence University past host Hamilton College, 10-4, in a Liberty League men's lacrosse game at Campus Road Athletic Field on April 5.
Hamilton's Franke Holiber '10 actually scored the game's first goal unassisted with 7 minutes, 24 seconds remaining in the first quarter to give the Continentals (4-4, 0-2 Liberty Lg.) a brief 1-0 lead, but St. Lawrence (5-2, 2-0 Liberty Lg.) scored the next four goals unanswered. Peter Carroll '09 added two goals and an assist as the Saints won their fifth straight game. P.J. Santora '09 won 14 of 17 faceoffs and led all players with nine ground balls.
Ben Prime '08 scored with 4:28 left in the first off an assist from Russell to it at 1-1. That was followed by a man-up goal from McKee at 3:13. Russell again assisted. Carroll scored next unassisted at 1:09, and McKee found the back of the net unassisted with 8:29 to play in the second quarter.
Hamilton made it 4-2 when Stephen Lefebvre '11 scored unassisted at 5:58 in the second, but St. Lawrence responded with a Russell-to-Dillon Simpson '10 goal at 3:30 for the last score of the first half.
The Continentals got to within two again on a man-up goal by Frasher Kempe '08 at 8:53 of the third quarter. Austin Deyo '09 assisted. Deyo leads the team with nine assists and has recorded at least one point in all eight games this year.
The Saints scored the next five goals though to put the game away. McKee assisted on three of them.
Peter Gerrity '09 scored unassisted for Hamilton with 52 seconds to play in the fourth quarter to provide the final margin. Thomas Hollingsworth '09 played the entire 60 minutes in goal for St. Lawrence and made four saves. Christian Kunhardt '10 started for Hamilton and made seven saves before he was relieved by Eli Leino '10 with 1:38 to play. Leino did not face a shot on goal. St. Lawrence leads the all-time series, 20-8.
