Connecticut College Falls in NESCAC to Bates
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Bates College (4-5, 2-4) earned its second NESCAC victory of the season Saturday, defeating Connecticut College (4-6, 1-5) 9-6 in women's lacrosse action played at Silfen Field. Caroline Thomas (Barrington, R.I.) and Morgan Maciewicz (Marblehead, Mass.) each contributed with a goal and two assists for the Bobcats. Molly Dilworth (Yarmouth, Maine), Molly Radis (Peaks Island, Maine) and Briana Gross (Andover, Mass.) chipped in with two goals apiece for the visitors.
Sophomore Sara Christopher (Andover, Mass.) contributed a goal and two assists for Connecticut College. Lindsey Coit (South Portland, Maine.) had two goals, five ground balls and three draw controls. Freshman Abby Hill (Stoneham, Mass.) added two goals for the hosts.
The Camels jumped out to a 1-0 lead exactly 11 minutes into regulation. Junior midfielder Paige Pascarelli (Wayne, Pa.) dished to Hill for a goal and the hosts had gained an early advantage. But the Bobcats would score the next five goals in the half to seize control of the contest. Dilworth put the visitors on top to stay at 2-1 with 16:22 play, scoring on a Thomas feed. Later on with 2:56 remaining, Thomas assisted Dilworth for the second time and the Bobcats carried a 5-1 lead into the break.
In the second half, Bates took its largest lead at 8-2 on a goal from Radis with 5:02 to play. Sarah Miner (Fairfield, Conn.) and Coit rallied the Camels with goals but it was not enough. Bates was able to hold on for the 9-6 victory.
Freshman Mara Krueger (St. Louis, Mo.) earned the victory for the visitors, stopping six Connecticut College shots. Jenna Ross (Longmeadow, Mass.) finished with 10 saves for the Camels.
