McDaniel Scores Early, Often in Win over Swarthmore
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Erinn Hopkins (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) recorded four goals and two assists to lead McDaniel to a 19-7 win over Swarthmore in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action on Saturday.
Amy Vachal led the Garnet (4-8, 0-4 CC), converting three times on four shots.
Kerrie Wuenschel (Sykesville, Md./South Carroll) and Brittany Baer (Westminster, Md./Westminster) recorded three goals and one assist apiece for the Green Terror (7-4, 3-2 CC), who held a 40-20 advantage in shots, including 21-9 in the decisive first half.
McDaniel got tallies from Baer and Kelly Scheler (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton Wright) in the game's first 6:55 before Emily Evans pulled Swarthmore within 2-1 at the 9:35 mark.
Hopkins had a hand in the next two Green Terror tallies, finishing an unassisted goal and adding an assist on a Sarah Mintz (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) marker 2 minutes, 10 seconds apart.
Vachal made it a 4-2 game with an unassisted tally at the 13:13 mark.
Wuenschel and Chelsea Ferruzzi (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) pushed the lead to 6-2 with 17:46 elapsed before Marissa Schaffer continued the trend of trading 2-for-1 with a free-position goal.
Hopkins and Wuenschel added free-position tallies of their own before Vachel made it 8-4 with 5:07 remaining until halfitme.
Brittany Lines (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) started a five-goal flurry that spanned the two halves and gave McDaniel a 13-4 lead.
After Vachel momentarily halted the run, the Green Terror reeled off the next six to push the advantage to 19-5 with 7:07 to play.
Leanne Hollinger (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) recorded seven saves for McDaniel while Susannah Blair made nine stops.
McDaniel returns to action at Gettysburg on Wednesday. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
