Tigers Explode for 18 Goals in Victory over Fontbonne

Senior attacker Tom Dugan and junior midfielder Charley Perkins had six goals apiece to lead the Colorado College men's lacrosse team to 18-8 victory over Fontbonne University on Saturday afternoon at CC's Washburn Field.

Perkins had five goals and an assist, while Dugan scored four times and set up a pair of goals as Colorado College set a season high for scoring.

Sophomore attacker Brendan Gangl and freshman attacker Hunter Sprole each added a goal and an assist as the Tigers (5-2) overcame an early deficit to win their third consecutive game.

Sophomore midfielder Brooks and junior attacker Patrick Zeis had two goals and a pair of assists for the Griffins, who dropped to 4-6.

McGee and sophomore attacker Josh Albrecht scored early in the first period as Fontbonne took an early 2-1 lead. And 26 seconds after CC scored twice to take its first lead with 6:36 remaining in the period, sophomore attacker Jaron Klopstein tied the game at 3-3.

But from that point on, the Tigers dominated. CC closed out the first period with a pair of goals and outscored the Griffins 8-2 in the second frame.

Colorado College took command of the game after Fontbonne's Ray Medalla was assessed a three-minute penalty for using an illegal stick. Leading 8-5 with 5:23 remaining in the period, the Tigers scored four times during the non-releasable penalty to open a 12-5 advantage.

Dugan added his fourth goal with 2:17 to play as CC set a season-high with 13 goals in the first half.

Freshman Max Pluss made three saves during the first half to improve to 2-0 in goal. Classmate Scott MacArthur stopped three shots in the final 30 minutes.

Sophomore Austen Doster made 12 saves on 25 shots during the first half for Fontbonne. Freshman John Gornick stopped three shots in relief. The Tigers finished with a 52-18 advantage in shots on goal.

Colorado College will continue its drive for an NCAA tournament berth next weekend when the Tigers travel to Ohio for games against Kenyon College and the College of Wooster on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
