Erickson's Leads #14 Mary Washington Past CNU

Senior Caitlin Erickson scored five goals and nine assists for a school record 14 points to lead the 14th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team to an 18-16 win over Christopher Newport University on Saturday morning at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 8-5 on the season.

The Eagles scored the game's first three goals, only to see the Lady captains answer with the next four. After the Eagles regained the lead at 5-4, CNU scored four of the last five goals of the half to take an 8-6 lead to halftime.

The Eagles trailed, 9-6, after a CNU goal to open the second half, and trailed by as many as four at 14-10 with 8:27 to play. The Eagles would outscore CNU, 8-2, the rest of the way for the two-goal win.

Erickson's 14 points are just two shy of the NCAA Division III record, held by Goucher's Courtney Crangi. She has scored 10 points or more in six UMW games this season, and leads the nation with 98 points (46 goals, 52 assists).

Freshman katie Wallis scored six goals for UMW, including the game winner with 2:53 to play. Emily Talbot and Sarah Finney had three goals each for UMW.

The Eagles will host Greensboro College on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
