Thoroughbreds Make Quick Work of Vassar
Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – Rob Lutin (Port Washington, N.Y.) scored five goals and had one assist to lead the Skidmore College men's lacrosse team to a 13-5 Liberty League win over Vassar College, Saturday night at Wachenheim Field. The Thoroughbreds improve to 7-2 overall and 2-1 in Liberty play, while Vassar falls to 3-8 and 0-3.
Skidmore scored four goals in a 4:32 span of the first quarter to grab a 4-0 lead. Lutin scored first at 7:50, followed by goals from Cory Barkoff (Syosset, N.Y.) and Nick Coppola (Basking Ridge, N.J.). Lutin closed the run with a man-up goal at 3:28.
Vassar scored its lone goal of the first half when Nick Cardillo (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) scored with 2:18 to play in the first.
The Thoroughbreds scored the next eight goals to take a 12-1 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Brewers scored four times in the final stanza against the Skidmore reserves for the 13-5 final.
Barkoff finished with two goals and an assist, while Coppola had a goal and four assists. Ben Cornell (Natick, Mass.) also scored twice.
For Vassar, Cody Scandore had two goals.
Skidmore goalie John Capitani (Garden City, N.J.) allowed just one goal in 45:00 with seven saves. Flip Bongaerts had three saves and Vivek Huded stopped five shots in the final quarter. Vassar's Alex Tice had eight saves in the first half and Ed Pappo had three in the second.
The Thoroughbreds host Williams College on April 8 at 7:00 p.m.
