Fairfield Wins 10th Straight, 20-10 Over Iona

Fairfield, Conn. - The Fairfield University women's lacrosse team stretched its program-record win streak to 10 games on Sunday, defeating Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Lacrosse League foe Iona College 20-01 on Lessing Field. The win improves the Stags record to 10-1 overall and 3-0 in league play, while the Gaels fall to 4-8 on the year and 0-2 in MAAC action.

The Stags 10 wins equals the program's single-season record, matching the win total of the 2001 squad, which went 10-7. Fairfield also secures a winning record, the first since 2002 (9-8) and the third in program history.

Fairfield wasted little time in taking control of the game, as Rebecca White scored 24 seconds into the game, and Cristin Lucena struck nine seconds later, for an early 2-0 lead. After an Iona tally at 28:25, Kristen Coleman scored her first of the day with 27:03 to play and White netted her second 29 seconds later, for a 4-1 lead. The Stags would finish the half on a 9-5 lead to take a 13-6 halftime advantage. The teams exchanged goals in the early minutes of the second half, but Iona would close no closer than the seven-goal margin. Fairfield would put the game out of reach with a 5-1 run, taking the largest lead of the game, 20-9, with

2:05 to play.

Coleman and White led all scorers with six points each in the contest. Coleman netted five goals and had one assist, giving her a school rookie single-season record 57 points. White netted three goals and dished out three assists. Kylee Martin had four points, with two goals, the same number of goals tallied by Erin Rigby, Lucena and Brittany Bare.

Lauren Chatnik made 11 saves in the contest for Fairfield, picking up the victory. Colleen Magri started in net for Iona, making three saves, and allowing 13 goals to take the loss. Carlee Street minded the net in the second half, allowing seven goals, and making four saves.

White led the team in caused turnovers, with three, as the team had 11 on the afternoon. Rigby recorded five draw controls for the Stags, who captured 18-32. Fairfield had 19 ground balls, with four from Caroline Madrak and Renee L'Heureux.

Fairfield begins a three-game road trip on Wednesday, at Holy Cross for a non-conference contest.
