Eastern Connecticut Drubs Plymouth for 4th Win in a Row
MANSFIELD, Conn. – In a meeting between program who have met in the last three Little East Conference championship games, the Eastern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team posted the most one-sided verdict in the21-game history of the series with a 20-5 win over Plymouth State University Sunday afternoon.
The win is the fourth straight for Eastern (5-4, 3-0 little east) and moves the 2007 LEC regular-season and playoff champion Warriors over the .500 mark for the first time this year. It is Eastern's 12th straight regular-season conference victory, dating back to the 2006 season. Poor home field conditions have limited Plymouth (1-3, 1-1 little east) to just four contests thus far this season.
Although the majority of the games in this 21-game series have been closely contended – Eastern winning by a single goal twice last year – this hotly –contested battle never materialized. The Warriors scored the final ten goals of the first half – holding the Panthers scoreless over the final 26 minutes of the half – and were never seriously threatened.
Senior captain Megan Gloster (Agawam, MA), junior Natalie Sims (Carle Place, NY) and first-year sophomore Brooke Wayte (Bellport, NY) all had four goals in the match. Junior Joslin Wells (Marstons Mills, MA) was not called upon for a save until 21 minutes had elapsed in the match in recording her fifth win.
Eastern outshot Plymouth 47-11, forced 26 turnovers, and was successful on 17 of 22 clear attempts.
Sims won five of the team's 13 draws, and sophomore Taylor MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, MA) picked up four ground balls.
Eastern visits Massachusetts Dartmouth Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
