Martellucci Powers Vassar Over Farmingdale

FARMINGDALE, NY (April 8, 2008) -- Junior Katama Martellucci scored a career high six goals and senior goalie Ariel Nelson turned away 11 shots, as Vassar's women's lacrosse team handedly defeated Farmingdale State, 12-2, Tuesday afternoon.

With the victory, the Brewers improve to 6-2 on the season and will resume Liberty League play this Saturday at RPI.

The Brewers, who led 4-0 at halftime, scored the first six goals of the game. Three of those six came from Martellucci (Montclare, PA/The Hill School). In a display of offensive domination, Vassar reeled off 37 shots to Farmingdale State's 14 and was never challenged in registering its sixth win of the season.

Farmingdale State got a goal from Monica Grisales midway through the second half to cut VC's lead to 6-1, but the Brewers would tally three straight after that, two coming from Martellucci and cruised from there.

Vassar got goals from five different players, including two from sophomore Jennie McAllister (Bayshore, NY/Bayshore) and freshman Sarah Warner (Ipswich, MA/The Waring School).

Senior Julie Lehman (Concord, NH/Derryfield) and junior Katie Reynolds (Demascus, MD/Demascus) each notched goals.

Nelson made 11 saves for Vassar, while Janine Forman had 17 for Farmingdale State.
