Pietramala Announces 2005 JHU Schedule

Blue Jays to Play Seven Games Against 2004 NCAA Tournament Teams

November 30, 2004

BALTIMORE, MD -- Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse coach Dave Pietramala announced the Blue Jays' 12-game schedule for the upcoming 2005 season today. The Blue Jays will once again play one of the most difficult schedules in the nation and will play seven of their 12 games at Homewood Field. The Blue Jays have won 27 straight games at Homewood Field and are 28-1 at home under Pietramala.

"Our scheduling philosophy is to play the most difficult schedule in the nation," Pietramala noted. "We are excited to welcome seven outstanding teams to Homewood Field and all five of our road games are against teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament. Playing this type of schedule is one reason why student-athletes come to Johns Hopkins and it prepares our team for the post-season."

Highlighting the 2005 schedule are games against each of the other three teams that advanced to the 2004 Final Four. Johns Hopkins is the only team in the nation that will play Princeton, Navy and Syracuse, which joined the Blue Jays as the final four teams last season. In addition to the games listed above, the Blue Jays will also play Maryland and North Carolina, which advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2004, and Towson and Albany, which also played in the 2004 NCAA Tournament.

Hopkins will open the season on March 5 at Princeton before returning home for back-to-back games against UMBC and Hofstra. A road tilt at Syracuse on March 18 will be the first of three Friday night games for the Blue Jays, while a home game against Virginia will close out the month of March. A road trip to North Carolina on April 2 will be the first of three games in eight days for the Blue Jays, who will host Albany and Duke before hitting the road for the 101st Hopkins-Maryland game on April 15.

The Blue Jays will close the season with three more games against in-state rivals with a rematch of last season's epic game against Navy slated for April 23 at Homewood Field. A road game against Towson will polish off the month of April before a Homecoming showdown against Charles Street-rival Loyola on May 7 closes the regular season.

In addition to the seven regular season games scheduled for Homewood Field, the historic venue will also host the NCAA South Quarterfinals on May 21. Game times for the quarterfinal doubleheader are tentatively scheduled for noon and 3:00 pm.
