WLax: Siena Signs Three to Letters of Intent LOUDONVILLE, N.Y.-The Siena women's lacrosse program has signed three players to National Letters of Intent, for the 2005-06 academic year Saints head coach Jake McHerron announced today. The three student athletes are the first members of the class of 2009 to commit to the program and represent the second recruiting class signed by McHerron. The incoming class includes attacker Ryan Tierney (Baldwinsville, N.Y.), midfielders Lindsey Rosecrans (Niskayuna, N.Y.) and Brittany Demetriou (Brookville, N.Y.). "This is an outstanding recruiting class especially when considered as a whole," said McHerron, who was named MAAC co-Coach of the Year in his first season with the program last spring. "This class will fill some holes, but more importantly bring depth to every position. We were able to cover a breadth of needs for our squad with this group." Ryan Tierney, a 5-1 attacker at C.W. Baker High School was named to the OHSL 2nd Team, Honorable Mention All League and N.Y.S. National team. She also played for the Empire State Central Regional team where she collected six goals and three assists to aid the team in claiming the gold medal. Additionally, she received honorable mention recognition at the Galaxy Tournament and garnered the 2004 East Coast Camp All Star award. Thus far, she has compiled 41 goals, dished out 24 assists and scooped up 131 ground balls. "Tierney works hard on the field and has great speed. She's the type of player who adds dimension to our offense given her ability to score on the fast break", said McHerron. Lindsey Rosecrans, a midfielder at Niskayuna High School was named the to the 2004 Academic All-American First Team Suburban Council (2004), the 2003 First Team All Galaxy and crowned 2004 Team MVP. Thus far, the 5-7 defender has scored 71 points (2002-04). "Lindsey is a great all around athlete who adds depth in the midfield", echoed McHerron. "She's a noble athlete with great spirit." Brittany Demetriou, a Brookville two-sport varsity athlete in field hockey and lacrosse, was named to the Nassau All Conference team in both sports. Demetriou, a member of the Long Island Yellow Jackets, garnered 45 ground balls on the defensive end for Locust Valley High School. McHerron says, "Brittany is a feisty defender who can play in the midfield as well as down low." "This class reflects a continued trend of stronger and stronger recruiting classes for our program," McHerron said. We search throughout the country to identify student-athletes who can excel on and off the field. We have been lucky that each year more and more talented athletes are interested in our program and our school." |
