WLax: Le Moyne Inks Three During Early Period

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Three Central New York lacrosse standouts have signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Le Moyne College women's lacrosse program as members of the Class of 2009. Defender Betsy Bubnack (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee), attack Michelle Lissner (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) and attack Lisa McCarthy (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) will join the Dolphins, according to third-year head coach Lauren O'Connor.

"Betsy, Lisa, and Michelle have the talent and ability to make an immediate impact in their first year at Le Moyne," third-year head coach Lauren O'Connor said. "They have been very successful on teams that receive state and national recognition. I am confident that they will help to raise the bar for success at Le Moyne. This class has a great amount of athleticism, experience and enthusiasm. I am confident that their talent will help to accelerate our program and build on our previous successes."

Bubnack, a high school Academic All-America selection this past season, played a key defensive role with the 2003 state champion team at West Genesee. She earned second team all-league plaudits as a junior and was third team all-league as a sophomore. Bubnack, a gold medalist in the 2004 Empire State Games with the Central Region team, joins with Lissner and McCarthy as a member of the Star Riders Lacrosse Club.

"A defender with great speed, Betsy should be a catalyst in our transition," O'Connor commented. "Her determination and tenacity only add to her natural athleticism. Betsy has a ton of potential on both ends of the field, but will immediately complement our defense."

Lissner, a first team all-league pick and second team all-CNY selection, was named the East Syracuse-Minoa team Most Valuable Player last season. She has scored 142 goals and assisted on 88 in her career at ES-M. Also the goalkeeper on her high school's girl's soccer team and a 2002 Empire State Games soccer gold medalist, Lissner earned the 2004 U.S. Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award.

"Michelle is an amazing leader on the field and will play her heart out for her team," O'Connor praised. "She brings great game sense, power and poise to our lineup. Michelle has a strong, accurate shot and she knows how to finish. Moreover, Michelle has great off-ball movement which will allow her a quick transition to the collegiate playing field."

McCarthy, a first-team all-CNY pick and first-team all-league selection in 2004, was named the Offensive Player of the Year for the perennial power West Genesee HS. She has scored 82 goals and assisted on 42 in her career with the Wildcats. A member of the 2003 New York state championship team and 2004 Empire State Games gold medal team, McCarthy was an Honorable Mention high school All-America as a junior.

"Lisa has great skill and speed. She has a great first step that catches defenders by surprise," O'Connor added. "Her ability to spark and ignite the offense will enable her to step right in at the attack position. Being a member of a state championship program, Lisa will bring the confidence and experience necessary to push our team to the next level."

In 2004, Le Moyne (12-6, 5-1 MAAC) won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season crown for the first time in program history. The Dolphins, participants in two of the last three NCAA Division I tournaments, have won a program-record 24 games in O'Connor's first two seasons at the helm.
