WLax: UC-Davis Signs Three Prospects for 2006

DAVIS, Calif. -- The UC Davis women's lacrosse program signed three prospective student-athletes to national letters of intent during the fall signing period. Alphabetically, the players are Patrice Clark, Jessica Luckhardt and Caitlin Strahorn-Brown. Each is expected to enroll at UC Davis in the fall of 2005.

"We're very pleased and excited about this class," said Aggie head coach Elaine Jones. "We feel we've brought in a great trio of enthusiastic and competitive players who are all thrilled about taking UC Davis lacrosse to the Division I level. Each player brings excellent athletic and academic qualities that will enable them to make an immediate contribution to our team on the field and in the classroom."

Clark, a senior at Poway High School, earned first-team All-San Diego Section and All-North County Conference honors as a junior. She scored 46 goals for the year, helping her team to a runner-up finish in the CIF-SDS championships. Clark also helped the Titans to back-to-back section titles in her first two years. Clark also played for the Pacific 1 regional team last summer. Additionally, she earned offensive MVP and her team's Coaches' Award in basketball.

"Patrice has shown that she has a knack for getting to the cage and scoring goals," Jones said. "With her height and athleticism, we'll be looking for her to make her presence felt on offense as well as defense."

Luckhardt, a senior at San Ramon Valley High School in Danville, won prep All-America honorable mention and All-East Bay Athletic League merit last season. She has led her team in ground balls for two straight seasons, and was the Wolves' top scorer in 2004. Luckhardt also played club ball for for Nor-Cal Lacrosse, earning a spot on the All-Vail Tournament team and leading her squad in assists.

"Jessica is an exciting attacker with great speed and versatility," said Jones. "Her tenacity in going for ground balls will be an asset that will help her make an impact going through the midfield and on attack."

Strahorn-Brown, a senior at Lincoln High School in Portland, Ore., won first-team all-state honors as a junior, scoring 24 goals with seven assists. She also played for the Northwest Regional team, representing the states of Oregon and Washington at the US Lacrosse national tournament. She is a two-time member of the Oregon All-Stars squad and in 2004 captured US Lacrosse Academic All-America honors.

"Catie has great speed, field sense, and stick skills, all attributes that will definitely allow her to make an immediate impact for us in the midfield transition, as well as on attack," said Jones.

UC Davis finished 12-5 in 2004, finishing second in the final Inside Lacrosse Division II Power Poll.
