Mars Hill Signs Five to National Letters of Intent MARS HILL NC. Mars Hill College Head Mens Lacrosse Coach Brian Anken has announced the signing of five standout High School student athletes. Andrew Bergland, John Day, Sean Haddow, Ryan Koebbe and Ross Novak have all signed National Letters of Intent to continue their education and play lacrosse at MHC beginning in the fall of 2005. We are very excited about the five players who have committed to the Mars Hill Lacrosse Program, Anken said. I feel this group will help add depth and talent to the twenty two freshmen we brought in last year. For the second year in a row our recruiting efforts have helped us find some great players in non-traditional lacrosse areas. We currently have players representing thirteen different states and feel that level of diversity to be one of our greatest strengths. Andrew Bergland (Apex, NC.) Andrew is a 5-7, 165-pound midfielder from Apex High School in NC. Andrew is a strong athletic midfielder who has tremendous field presence and awareness. He finished the 2004 season with 17 goals and 10 assists. John Day (Chapel Hill, NC.) John is a 6-1, 180-pound midfielder from C.E. Jordan High School in NC. John will be expected to create an immediate presence on the Lions defensive midfield unit. He finished the 2004 season with 7 goals and 2 assists. Sean Haddow (Marietta, GA.) Sean is a 6-2, 175-pound midfielder from Alan C. Pope High School in GA. Sean will bring great size and athleticism to our midfield corps. He finished the 2004 season with a 70% face-off percentage while tallying 10 goals and 6 assists. Ryan Koebbe (Acworth, GA.) Ryan is a 5-10, 165-pound midfielder from Harrison High School in GA. Ryan brings an increased level of speed and quickness to our midfield unit. He finished the 2004 season as team captain and scored 19 goals and 26 assists. Ross Novak (Bel Air, MD.) Ross is a 5-7, 150-pound midfielder from Fallston High School in MD. Ross is an extremely versatile player who finished the 2004 season with 25 goals and 14 assists while helping Fallston High School to a 12-3 record. He was recognized in 2004 as a First Team All-County selection. MHC Head Coach Brian Anken: "I am very excited about the athleticism and skill of this recruiting class. I feel its a direct result of the Mars Hill College administration continuing to commit to the Lacrosse Program by adding full-time assistant coach Sean Humphreys to the coaching staff. Sean has been a tremendous asset to the program and has helped take our recruiting efforts to new heights." |
