Pollsters' Comments About Teams They Ranked

Virginia: Two easy wins this week. (Baldo) — #1 Jumped on Cornell early and never let up. This team is deep, and the Brattons are special athletes. (Coyote) — Dump Big Red, stay number 1. (jhu7276) — Over the past two weeks, the Cavs have proven that they are a cut above. (Ketch) — #1 - Dismantled Cornell with relative ease, in Ithaca. (Lax Genius) — My #1. Impressive all-around performance holding Cornell to 4g. (maddog9718) — #1 Squeezed the life out of Cornell. I thought Cornell did well to hold them as well as they did. If their defense plays well, they can win the title. (OCanada) — Still #1. Crushed Big Red. (oldbartman) — (P33#1) - Shut down Pannell and Hurley, beat #8 by 8. (Paesan33) — My #1 and playing like it. (randyrad) — Number 1 - still finding their legs - nice to see the D pick up and Shamel back. (Rasheed) — #1 LW 1-Dissected Cornell. Not even close. (Strannywastheman) — No doubt about this win over the BIG RED! (Tecumseh)

Syracuse: Close shave in the Dome against the Hoyas. (Baldo) — #3 - Georgetown game looked like the Army game - "Cuse let the opponent back in after a commanding lead at the half. Will this be a problem all year? (Coyote) — Once again become the orange monkey on G-town's back ... #2. (jhu7276) — A surprise that the Orange could not put GT away with a stake through the heart. (Ketch) — #2 - Rebounded from a tough loss last week and got the job done against Georgetown. And Jamieson hasn't even hit his stride yet. (Lax Genius) — My #3. Defeated GU as expected. (maddog9718) — #2 Narrowly ahead of UNC. They have some holes but the return of Lade is big for them. Amadon needs to keep it up. Ianzito would be a big boost too. (OCanada) — Up to #2. Amidon finally getting into the action. (oldbartman) — (P33#5) - Behind MD because Terps have better wins. (Paesan33) — My #5, and my #1 team w/ one loss. Will move up as those above knock each other down. (randyrad) — Number 4 - still finding some rhythm - should be dangerous come FF. (Rasheed) — #2 LW 2-So tough in the Dome. Jovan Miller is a great mid, Jamieson is a load, but very talented, Thompson off the face-off is incredible. Galloway-stud. (Strannywastheman) — Hoya's gave them a battle! (Tecumseh)

North Carolina: Is this finally their year? (Baldo) — #4 Can make a statement with a quality win over Princeton this week. (Coyote) — Romp over Duke. (jhu7276) — Watched the Duke game. The Heels are really, really good. Billy Bitter, yeah. (Ketch) — Could be their year! (LAF) — #3 - Impressive ACC win over a faltering Duke squad. (Lax Genius) — My #2. Making a statement w/ their defense. Face huge test against PU this week. (maddog9718) — #3 I was impressed with their win over Duke. They have a D that can neutralize the VA attack but I am not sure they match up well with VA at midfield. (OCanada) — Tar Heels are for real at #3. (oldbartman) — (P33#3) - A perfect 6-0, doubled up Duke earlier in the week on the road. (Paesan33) — My #2 and playing like #1. Big test up next. (randyrad) — Number 2 - fantastic game against Duke - Bitter is unstoppable. (Rasheed) — #3 LW 3-Impressive in their dominance of Duke. Bitter, D looked great. Flanagan, Madalon and Petracca with very good games. (Strannywastheman) — Tough on the Dukies and in style! (Tecumseh)

Princeton: Possible class of the Ivies. (Baldo) — #2 - The win over Hofstra looks even better. (Coyote) — Squeeze the Retrievers ... my #4. (jhu7276) — Rollin' rollin' rollin'. (Ketch) — #4 - The Tigers cruise with wins over Manhattan and UMBC. (Lax Genius) — My #5. Nice W over UMBC. Face biggest test of season so far in Chapel Hill on Tuesday. (maddog9718) — #5 The Tigers are a mild surprise because I thought it would take a year to adjust to the new coach. But it didn't. (OCanada) — Tigers look like the team to beat in the Ivies at #4. (oldbartman) — (P33#2) - Doubled up UMBC, who is faltering as of late. Gotta have Princeton in front of UNC, though, because wins are better. But P33 does think UNC will prevail next week. (Paesan33) — My #4. Big chance to break the ACC supremacy ... or not. (randyrad) — Number 5 - huge game against Carolina coming up. (Rasheed) — #5 LW 6-UMBC a mere speed bump. (Strannywastheman) — Big win on UMBC but should have been bigger. (Tecumseh)

Maryland: Still winning. (Baldo) — Beat Towson ... Testudo and PLB in fine form. (jhu7276) — Did what they had to do in the muck vs. Towson. (Ketch) — #6 - The undefeated Terps move up. Should handle their in-state rival UMBC this week, then Hell Week with UNC and Virginia is on tap. (Lax Genius) — My #4. Continues to get contributions from midfield newcomers. (maddog9718) — #4 With Catalino dropping all the weight and playing more within a system and the emergence of a second midfield that is producing better than the first, they are looking like a FF team. Farrell is THE best LSM in the country. (OCanada) — Terps beat Towson as expected. They keep winning. (oldbartman) — (P33#4) - Looking good so far. Gtown and Duke are best wins. (Paesan33) — My #3 in poll and ACC. Consistency that was not there last yr. Offensive parts continuing to mesh. (randyrad) — Number 3 - Cottle may just save his job. (Rasheed) — #4 LW 4-Terps look sharp. Tigers came alive in 3rd for a bit to make it interesting. Cannot stand Cottle's sideline demeanor. (Strannywastheman) — Towson is toppled! (Tecumseh)

Hofstra: Demolished Jays at home. (Baldo) — #6 Big win over Johns Hopkins - Two quality wins and a quality loss. We knew they could score - this week they clamped down on D. (Coyote) — Jumps to my number 5 with stomping of the Jays. (jhu7276) — The Maple Leafs just crushed JHU. More to come. (Ketch) — Starting strong with only loss to Princeton. (LAF) — #5 - Johns who? (Lax Genius) — My #6. Scary-good offense took JHU to the woodshed. (maddog9718) — #6 I started the Pride in the top 8, I think. They are creeping up in my poll. They are one of six teams I think can make the FF. Their beat-down of Hopkins was a surprise but not the win. (OCanada) — Moving on up to #6 after embarrassing JHU. (oldbartman) — (P33#6) - Hofstra has got to be at 6- because ND, LC, Cornell, Delaware and JHU lost. And don't put a three-loss Duke in front of these guys, who just throttled a top 10 team. (Paesan33) — My #6. Signature win. Could now run the table. (randyrad) — Number 6 with a beat-down of the Hop. (Rasheed) — #6 LW 8-Anyone have any doubts the Flying Dutchmen belong in the top 10? If so, take a lap. Worked Hopkins. (Strannywastheman) — Coach "T" and his boys get a big win over the Jays. (Tecumseh)

Duke: Some redemption with win over Hounds. (Baldo) — Too bad it wasn't basketball this year ... Devils not looking "devilish" (the late Michael Jackson r.e. Tommy Motola) right now ... did beat Hounds, however. (jhu7276) — Got rolled by UNC, recovered against a good Loyola team. It's surprising how much Duke's stock has gone down. (Ketch) — #11 - A loss to North Carolina and only 8 goals against Loyola. Where is the offense? (Lax Genius) — My #8. Not ready to write this team off. Nice W over Loyola but still looking for midfield points. (maddog9718) — #9 They beat Loyola away to ruin the party for the new stadium. They just are not getting much from their middies, and that is a prescription for not making the FF. (OCanada) — Staying at #7, they beat a good Loyola team. (oldbartman) — (P33#8) - Finally, a good game put together by the Dukies. All four quarters. Back up 4 spots, due to teams in front losing and a big road win in the rain against a top 10 LC. Behind ND for losing to them. (Paesan33) — My #7. Nice bounce-back win. Slow starter. Still lurking. (randyrad) — Duke falling faster than Sean Kemp after leaving the Sonics. (Rasheed) — #9 LW 9-Even after the Heels whomped them, tough to drop them. Rebounded with a nice win against Hounds. (Strannywastheman) — A win is a win is a win. (Tecumseh)

Johns Hopkins: Another swoon for the Jays. (Baldo) — LI has been a disaster for JHU before but never as bad as this one ... team lacks "chemistry" (and I don't mean freshman chem or organic ... "Petey panics chem" - famous saying inscribed on walls of Homewood dorms) ... looks like this is going to be another LONG season. (jhu7276) — Travel all the way to Long Island, play in a deluge, and get crushed. Bad way to spend a Saturday. (Ketch) — Probably will not overcome early season struggles. (LAF) — #8 - I smell 4-5 and a drop out of the Top 10 over the coming fortnight. (Lax Genius) — My #10. Need to find an answer for their goalie situation if they have any hope of making noise this year. Only 19 shots against Hofstra? (maddog9718) — #7 They are once again beating lower ranked teams and losing to higher ranked teams. Not a way to move up. A few players need to start putting team, first and learning to execute. I rank them as the highest ranked team to have no shot at the FF if things continue as they have. (OCanada) — Look out below ... Petro must be ready to detonate. Now #16! (oldbartman) — (P33#14) - Best wins over Delaware, UMBC. Close loss deserves some credit. But inability to compete at Shuart drops them three slots. (Paesan33) — My #8. The sky is falling, just like every March. (randyrad) — Hopkins out of top 10 at #11 - Maybe Doc is right and they come back to win the National Championship ... but thus far the TRANSFORMATIVE CLASS seems MIA. (Rasheed) — #8 LW 7-Long ride back on 95. Have fun at practice boys. Dominated by Hofstra. (Strannywastheman) — Crushed by Hofstra. (Tecumseh)

Georgetown: Playing competitively. (Baldo) — #10 Two quality losses - Harvard win???? (Coyote) — Actually moving them UP with the three-goal loss to 'Cuse. (jhu7276) — Showed they had more game than I thought against Syracuse. Still playing below their talent level. (Ketch) — Gave Syracuse some competition. (LAF) — #9 - The Hoyas move up in spite of their annual loss to Cuse, as teams in front of them falter spectacularly. (Lax Genius) — #8 Lost to Cuse at Cuse and still moved up for me. I don't think they have the horses to move much higher. They have too many middies who can't create much. Size is pretty nice. Losing Ehrman is a big blow. (OCanada) — #11 - Didn't think they could beat Cuse. (oldbartman) — (P33#16) - Very difficult to rank the Tooners. Respectable losses to top 5 teams, solid win over Harvard. (Paesan33) — My #9. Can run with the big dogs, but can't put them away. (randyrad) — Georgetown in at 10. Urick needs to scramble to save his job. (Rasheed) — #12 LW 11-Dismantled by Syracuse, not as close as the score. Does Urick Sr. speak during games? Might want to try it. Most coaches do. Second midfield should be 1st. Seligman's their best. (Strannywastheman)

Cornell: Wake-up call against Hoos. (Baldo) — Offensive problems highlighted in loss to UVa. (Coyote) — No shame in losing to Hoos. (jhu7276) — The Big Red played some pretty weak competition out of the box. Now they know what it's like to be the weaker team. (Ketch) — #7 - Not competitive against the Cavs, and their Army win is less impressive after this week. As a result, the Big Red drop significantly. (Lax Genius) — My #9. (maddog9718) — #13 VA exposed all the holes left with the departure of last year's seniors. (OCanada) — Fall to #15. Offense needs to get in gear. (oldbartman) — (P33#10) - Truth is, best win was a one-goal squeaker against unranked Army. (Paesan33) — My #12. First big test was not confidence inspiring. (randyrad) — Cornell at 9. (Rasheed) — #16 LW 15-Didn't show much offense against UVa. Will they beat Yale? (Strannywastheman) — Spanked in C-Ville. (Tecumseh)

Stony Brook: Offense continues to show the way. (Baldo) — #8 Quality loss to UVa defines this team so far. Can they keep it up? (Coyote) — Beat Delaware. (jhu7276) — The Brook keeps proving the doubters wrong. It won't be long until the Seawolves break the Top 10. (Ketch) — #15 - The Seawolves jump into my top 20 with their 3-1 record, the only blemish on said record a loss to the #1 Cavaliers. (Lax Genius) — My #16. Nice W over UD. McBride w/ an impressive 8 points. (maddog9718) — #12 Beat a good Delaware team. The highest I ever ranked them for the second week in a row. (OCanada) — Big win over Delaware, great offense, #8. (oldbartman) — (P33#13) - Moves up one slot for defeating Delaware on the road (again). Makes a better case for the 13 slot than JHU, I think. (Paesan33) — My #17. AE front runner. Nice win over Delaware. (randyrad) — Stony Brook at 7. (Rasheed) — #15 LW 16-Finally shook off Delaware. Conference champs? (Strannywastheman) — Nice win over the Blue Hens. (Tecumseh)

Harvard: Dodged another bullet. (Baldo) — Struggled with UMass? (Coyote) — Another Ivy "slide by" over the Minutes. (jhu7276) — Nice win over UMass. (Ketch) — #17 - Won a close one over the public school from down the Mass Turnpike. (Lax Genius) — My reluctant #7 (as everyone ahead of them lost). (maddog9718) — #11 Looking like #2 in the Ivies for the moment. They narrowly edged Mass. (OCanada) — #9 with a tough win over UMass. (oldbartman) — (P33#18) - Behind G'town for losing to them. Plays well on the road, but best win is over unranked UMass. (Paesan33) — My #10. Hard to tell based on schedule to date. (randyrad) — Harvard at 13. (Rasheed) — #13 LW 12-Able to hold off UMass in a close one. (Strannywastheman) — Knock off UMass, still a sleeper. (Tecumseh)

Lafayette: Cinderella's slippers may fit? (Baldo) — #15 I'll believe in the Leopards if they survive the next two games against Bucknell and Drexel. (Coyote) — Team on the rise! (jhu7276) — A disciplined, veteran team made mincemeat out the PL's supposed top team. Now they've got to do the same against the other top team, Bucknell. (Ketch) — Next two games (Bucknell and Drexel) will tell if they are legit. (LAF) — #13 - I have to give the Leopards some love. Even though Navy doesn't appear as strong as I had anticipated, with a win over the Mids, Lafayette is now the class of the Patriot League, and the Fairfield win also gained some weight this weekend. (Lax Genius) — My #11. Turning heads w/ impressive victories. (maddog9718) — #14 Pasted a struggling Navy team. A team that is a total surprise to me thus far. Props to them for their accomplishments thus far. (OCanada) — #13. Their run continues. (oldbartman) — (P33#17) - Undefeated, five straight wins, and no one has come close. Signature win arrived this week against Navy. Fortunately for Lafayette, Navy should be winning the next few games. (Paesan33) — My #11. Battling for 1st in PL, again. (randyrad) — Lafayette at 15. (Rasheed) — #14 LW 22-Steamrolled the Mids. Very impressive performance. Here to stay? We'll see. (Strannywastheman) — Flying up in the polls. Need to keep it up! (Tecumseh)

Loyola: Tough loss to Dookies. (Baldo) — Lost to Duke. (jhu7276) — Too bad they had to open their new facility with a loss. But that place looks sweet. (Ketch) — #12 - Consecutive losses to two formerly highly-rated teams that are now plummeting (ND and Duke) hurt the Hounds. (Lax Genius) — #10 Lost to Duke at home and never looked like they could win the game. (OCanada) — Still #14 and the team to beat in the ECAC. (oldbartman) — (P33#9) - Best win is Navy, who may be out of the top 20 depending on the poll you read. Unravelling quickly. Behind ND for losing to them. (Paesan33) — My #14. Killer non-conference schedule. Will start to win again with MacDonnell back. (randyrad) — Number 17. (Rasheed) — #11 LW 10-Blue Devil loss hurts. Should still win conference. (Strannywastheman)

Notre Dame: THUD of the week. (Baldo) — What was worse, JHU losing to Hofstra or ND losing to Fairfield and Drexel? The latter ... that's why ND takes a plunge. (jhu7276) — Dropping like a rock. What's next? (Ketch) — #10 - Just when I was hopping on the Notre Dame train, they lose to Drexel and Fairfield in the same week? (Lax Genius) — My #13. Can't afford to lose to the Fairfields on their schedule. (maddog9718) — #15 Lost two in a row to mid-level teams. I am glad I did not start them as high as most. They did not look like a top 10 team at M&T and that has not changed. (OCanada) — THUD OF THE WEEK times two ... now #18. (oldbartman) — (P33#7) - Ugh, two unranked losses, though both opponents move in. Otherwise, you can't deny wins over LC and Duke. Down five slots. (Paesan33) — My #13. "Upset" victim twice now. (randyrad) — #18 LW 5-Drexel is a very good team. Irish D was solid, offense not so much. But losing to Fairfield? And they were barely in it. (Strannywastheman) — Fairfield just sent a message to the whole league. (Tecumseh)

Drexel: Hanging in there. (Baldo) — Knock off ND and Red Storm. (jhu7276) — Took down Notre Dame, paving the way for Fairfield to do the same. (Ketch) — #14 - Another one-loss squad with only Virginia able to beat them so far. SOS the only question to date. (Lax Genius) — My #15. Nice W over ND. 3G loss to UVa looking better and better. (maddog9718) — #17 Have run off five in a row after the loss to VA. No reason for them not to be in top 20. (OCanada) — #10 on the back of wins over ND and SJU. (oldbartman) — (P33#11) - Five straight winners, including the signature over ND. They better hope ND starts winning, or they must defeat Hofstra down the stretch (maybe 2x). (Paesan33) — My #15. Another giant killer. New Aussie Dragon fan ecstatic. (randyrad) — Drexel cracks my top 10 at number 8. (Rasheed) — #7 LW 20-Big win over Irish might be Voelker's biggest ever. Good for him. Redmen gave them a battle. Only loss by 3 to Hoos in opener. (Strannywastheman) — Great week with two solid wins. (Tecumseh)

Brown: In the Ivy mix. (Baldo) — #1? Victory over Hartford looks weak after Bellarmine beats Hartford. (Coyote) — Slides by Hartford. (jhu7276) — OT against Hartford? Still, two victories for the week. (Ketch) — #16 - Stung by a close mid-week OT win over Hartford, the Bears went postal on St. Joe's on Saturday. (Lax Genius) — #13 Showing well so far but very few games to make judgments about. Narrowly beating Hartford is not going to move them up. (OCanada) — Yet another Ivy. (oldbartman) — My#22. (randyrad) — Brown up to 14. (Rasheed) — #20 LW 18-Hartford by all accounts has improved, but OT? (Strannywastheman) — Hard to tell anything with this win. (Tecumseh)

Bucknell: Patriot contender. (Baldo) — Defeat the Statesmen. (jhu7276) — Good game plan, execution against the error-prone Hobart Statesmen. (Ketch) — #20 - Nice win over Hobart without their offensive leader, but their losses to Navy and Duke now looking worse than they originally did. (Lax Genius) — #18 Beat Hobart by a couple. (OCanada) — Bison beat Hobart to move up to #12. (oldbartman) — (P33#12) - Solid wins, respectable losses. (Paesan33) — My #16. Playing for 1st in PL again. (randyrad) — Bucknell at 16. (Rasheed) — #10 LW 14-Hobart tested the Bison. Did not think they would. (Strannywastheman) — Nice win over Hobart. (Tecumseh)

Navy: Struggling mightily right now. (Baldo) — Ouch - pasted by Lafayette?! What has happened to the Goats! (jhu7276) — Can't give the Mids the benefit of the doubt in the polls that they usually get. Lafayette downed them decisively and then some. (Ketch) — #19 - Absolutely brutalized by Lafayette. What's going on in Annapolis? (Lax Genius) — #21 - A ship that needs to patch some holes. (oldbartman) — (P33#20) - Good resume except the UNC blowout. Bucknell is best win, yet way behind them in this poll because of other losses. (Paesan33) — My #19. Will the real Navy team plz step up? This team's play seems to match the weather. (randyrad) — Number 18. (Rasheed) — #17 LW 13-Goat never matches up well with Leopard. Just when I thought they were right, they weren't. Lafayette handled them easily. (Strannywastheman) — Destroyed by Lafayette, just ugly loss. (Tecumseh)

Delaware: Drop one to Seawolves ... Hens are blue. (jhu7276) — Lost shootout to Stony Brook. (Ketch) — #17 Lost to SB by about 4 goals. A solid team but three guys are not enough to beat top teams, especially if they all want to shoot. (OCanada) — (P33#15) - Still 4-2 with two forgiveable losses. Only falls two slots for home loss to Salmon Bellie U. (Paesan33) — My#23. (randyrad) — Delaware cracks the top 20 at number 19. (Rasheed) — #21 LW 17-Stayed with SBU most of the way, but Seagulls were better. (Strannywastheman) — What is happening? (Tecumseh)

Yale: Undefeated going into the Ivy schedule. We'll know for sure if this team has improved after the next two games: Cornell and Princeton. (Coyote) — #19 Beat Lehigh by a couple and have the big, for them, earlier win. (OCanada) — Eli is coming ... #19. (oldbartman) — (P33#25) - Four straight wins, but best is over UMass. Honorable mention to Hartford, and Quinnipiac, who has been pouring it on lately. (Paesan33) — My #18. Still winning. Opponents record to date = 8-14. Credibility ck next vs. Cornell. (randyrad) — #19 LW 23-Could Yale (4-0) be better than Cornell and Brown? Next Saturday will be interesting. (Strannywastheman) — Nice win at Lehigh! (Tecumseh)

Robert Morris: Cinderella Redux. (Baldo) — Undefeated - no quality wins except maybe Ohio State. (Coyote) — Just win baby ... Bobby Mo on the rise. (jhu7276) — Who would have ever thought it! (LAF) — They shoot, they score!! #19. (oldbartman) — (P33#21) - Five straight wins for RoMo. Best win is OSU, so that is keeping them out of my top 20. (Paesan33) — My#21. Undefeated but against opponents with 7-19 record. (randyrad) — And here comes Robert Morris at 20. (Rasheed) — #23 LW 23-Cupcake schedule will help their early season ranking. See Notre Dame 2009. (Strannywastheman)

Massachusetts: Close loss to the Cause. (jhu7276) — Almost got by strong Harvard team. (Ketch) — #18 - Beat Albany and lost a close one to Harvard this week. (Lax Genius) — #23 - too inconsistent. (oldbartman) — My#24. (randyrad) — #22 LW 19-Harvard loss not a surprise, but they rallied late. (Strannywastheman)

UMBC: Doubled up by Princeton. (jhu7276) — #24 LW 21-Brutal schedule should toughen Retrievers down the stretch. (Strannywastheman)

Fairfield: The Stags embarrassed ND. (oldbartman) — (P33#19) - So it turns out Lafayette is good and ND maybe isn't. So where do we put Fairfield? Better jump start the offense if they want to hang around. (Paesan33) — My #20. Lafayette loss doesn't look so bad now. (randyrad) — #25 LWNR-Top 25 with wins over Bryant and Irish. (Strannywastheman)

Bryant: Fairfield loss hurts this team. (Coyote) — (P33#23) - Plays really well on the road. Other than a trip to West PA, doesn't leave New England again. Does Bryant really have an athlete named Bryant? Answer: Yes. That gets you P33's #23 slot. (Paesan33)

Penn: Welcome to the top 20. Beat Nova. (oldbartman) — (P33#22) - Four straight wins. Turns out Lafayette is good, Duke is back. Best win is ... Denver? (Paesan33) — My#25. (randyrad)

Other Teams Pollsters Considered (and comments, if any)

Villanova:

Ohio State: Hard to tell what a win against hapless Albany means, but OSU appears to be coming on. (Ketch)

Army: Shot down by Air Force ... FOX ONE! (jhu7276)

Denver: Over the Golden Griffs of Buffalo. (jhu7276)

Jacksonville: Kerwick's kids. (oldbartman) — (P33#24) - Just beat up a lot of teams it should have. But difficult road stretch looms. Difficult. (Paesan33)
