Pollsters' Comments About Teams They Ranked

Maryland: Another blowout win. Tillman has the Terps hitting on all cylinders already. (Baldo) — #2. Two lopsided wins, 23-6 over MSM and 16-4 over Hartford. MSM then beats Bucknell. Offense looking real good for the Terps. Will it continue to do so against Loyola this coming weekend? (Cooter) — #3. No slowdown on offense as the Terps lay horizon jobs on MSM and Hartford. (dek) — #1 Slide up a place on the poor Loyola showing. (hoyaboy) — Big game with Hounds on tap ... Testudo starting the year with some potent offensive explosions. (jhu7276) — #2. Most impressive team so far, although against unranked opponents. (laxfan1313) — 1. Stomped all over MSM. Weekend trip to Hartford didn't slow them down at all. 39 goals in two games. What new stall rules? Excellent early season match-up on tap when they travel to Loyola next weekend. (Lax Fidelis) — #3. Two lopsided wins; hasn't been tested yet. (maddog9718) — 2. No losses but no real tests either. Scores about as expected. (OCanada) — #2. They can jump to number #1 with a win this week. (PSU) — RR#2. (randyrad) — #3-Demo'd Mount and Hartford. (Strannywastheman) — Crushed the Hartford Hawks and is closing in on #1. (Tecumseh) — #2. (VTD)

Loyola: Dodged a bullet against the Hens on the road. (Baldo) — #1. Narrow win over Delaware, but a win is a win ... particularly at the start of the season, when a team is still coming together. UMd next weekend. (Cooter) — #1. Retains the number 1 spot with a narrow victory over Delaware. (dek) — #2 Still undefeated ... barely; drop one place. (hoyaboy) — Number 1 til they lose. (jhu7276) — #1. I wouldn't argue with anyone who ranks the Terrapins #1. Still sticking with the Greyhounds for now. (laxfan1313) — 2. Hounds escaped with a one-goal win at Delaware by scoring with :05 remaining. They visit Towson and host Maryland this week. (Lax Fidelis) — #2. Has a big target on their back; edges Delaware at the buzzer. (maddog9718) — 1. An early season win, even by 1, is a start. It will take some time to adjust to Lusby's absence. (OCanada) — #1. Until they lose. (PSU) — RR#1. (randyrad) — #1-Blue Hens gave them all they could handle. (Strannywastheman) — Barely beat the Blue Hens, yikes! Less than impressive. (Tecumseh) — #4. (VTD)

Notre Dame: Crushed Dukies in Durham. Impressive. (Baldo) — #4. Very Impressive 13-5 win over Duke. Seemed like a scoring contest between Marlatt and Kavanagh. Stay at #4, but definitely a feather in their cap. (Cooter) — #2. Throttled Duke in Durham; looks like a Final Four team. Kavanaugh makes a big impact in his first D1 game. (dek) — #3 Beats a questionable Duke, but by 6, so that's impressive. (hoyaboy) — Smoked Duke=quality win. (jhu7276) — #3. Impressive take-down of (previously overrated) Duke. (laxfan1313) — 3, +1. Visited Duke and hammered the Blue Devils; it was never close. Off to PSU next Saturday, when I expect a better contest. (Lax Fidelis) — #1. New top dog with dominating performance in Durham. (maddog9718) — 3. Manhandled Duke for the first half. Then had to survive the Duke comeback. (OCanada) — #3. Convincing win over Duke. (PSU) — RR#3. (randyrad) — #2-Crushed Duke. Irish look very good early. (Strannywastheman) — Blasts Duke in the cold. Impressive with the number of goals they have put up. Seem to like the rules change. (Tecumseh) — #3. (VTD)

Johns Hopkins: Easily dispatched Towson. (Baldo) — #3. Two solid wins, 15-6 over Sienna and 12-6 over Towson, keeps them at #3. (Cooter) — #5. Hold position with expected wins over Siena and Towson. (dek) — #7. (hoyaboy) — 2-0 and should be 3-0 after Michigan game. "Don't be hatin'" ... yet ;) (jhu7276) — #5. Good start for the Blue Jays. (laxfan1313) — 7, +2. 2nd half rush propelled Hopkins past Siena. 12-6 win at Towson followed the same pattern: close at halftime, stretched the lead through 3rd and 4th quarters. 1st-ever meeting with Michigan's Wolverines at Homewood on Saturday. (Lax Fidelis) — #6. Beat Towson; not much gleaned -- meat of the schedule is still weeks away. (maddog9718) — 4. Two wins by scores about as expected. (OCanada) — #4. Two wins by a significant margin. Should be OK with Michigan this week. We will see if they can keep it up against better competition down the road. (PSU) — RR#4. (randyrad) — #6-Siena and Towson easy wins. (Strannywastheman) — Pretty Ho-hum so far, but it's only February. (Tecumseh) — #1. (VTD)

Massachusetts: Trailed the entire game against the Heels, tied it with a minute to go, and won it shortly thereafter - very gutsy performance. (Baldo) — #6. Big 12-11 win over UNC, without Manny, moves them up from #11 to #6. Also had a nice 16-9 win over Army. (Cooter) — #6. Gritted out come from behind win over UNC on the road. Huge early season confidence builder. (dek) — My #4. Finally off the schneid with this big win over a perennial contender. (hoyaboy) — 2-0 so far with big win over UNC. Hot right now. (jhu7276) — #6. Defeated North Carolina. I've moved them up to #6 for now - we'll see how long this lasts! (laxfan1313) — 6, +5. Ran all over visiting Army 16-9. Knocked off UNC 12-11 at a neutral site in Georgia. Impressive goalie play and unknown guys stepping in for injured front-line players like Will Manny. UMass visits Harvard to open the Crimson's season. (Lax Fidelis) — #9. Blue-collar groundballs and outstanding goalie play move the Minutemen in the top 10. (maddog9718) — 8. Beat UNC without Manny. That got my attention. My biggest mover this week. (OCanada) — #9. They are 2-0. Nice wins over Carolina and Army. (PSU) — RR#5. (randyrad) — #7-Great win over UNC - and without Will Manny. (Strannywastheman) — A injury-riddled team that beat down the Tar Heels. Nice win! Final Four? (Tecumseh) — #9. (VTD)

Virginia: Escaped as per usual against Drexel in the opener. (Baldo) — #7. Struggled but got by a tough Drexel team in OT. They were with out J. Pannell and Mk. Cockerton. Move up one from 8. (Cooter) — #10. One question mark appears to have been answered as Marino saves 15 shots. Other question marks remain. Pushed to the wire by Drexel. (dek) — #6. Usual nail biter with Drexel. (hoyaboy) — Slide by Drexel, but do not underestimate the Hoos. (jhu7276) — #7. Close victory over tough Drexel. (laxfan1313) — 10. Cavaliers hosted Drexel and barely escaped with their lives, winning 13-12 in OT. VMI visits and then the 'Hoos visit Stony Brook. (Lax Fidelis) — #11. Edged Drexel in a traditionally tough match-up; some question marks at FO. (maddog9718) — 9. Squeaker by Drexel in OT. They have not yet found answers to adjust for the graduation losses. Maybe they will and maybe they will struggle a little this year. (OCanada) — #5. OT win vs. The Dragons. (PSU) — RR#8. (randyrad) — #4-Usual nail biter with Drexel, but Hoos win it every year. (Strannywastheman) — Too close for comfort! (Tecumseh) — #7. (VTD)

Cornell: Did not play this week. (Baldo) — #5. Did not play. Move up one spot due to Duke's fall. (Cooter) — #4. No action and no reason to change my preseason ranking yet. (dek) — #9. Here for now because they have Panell. Assuming a move to top 5 before long. (hoyaboy) — Pannell is back, but season hasn't started yet? Fear the RED!? How good will they be? (jhu7276) — #4. Did not play but fills the spot vacated by Duke. Hobart coming up for the Big Red, which mourns the untimely passing of the great four-time AA goalie Paul Schimoler '89. (laxfan1313) — 4, +2. DNP. Open season against Hobart. (Lax Fidelis) — 5. No games yet. (OCanada) — #8. DNP. Hobart could give them a run. (PSU) — RR#10. (randyrad) — #5-DNP. (Strannywastheman) — A Pannell vote but still have the jury out on Ben. (Tecumseh) — #5. (VTD)

Penn State: Huge win over Denver in Florida. (Baldo) — #10. Big 15-12 win over Denver moves them up. (Cooter) — #7. The first of several Sunday surprises that shook my rankings, the Nits pretty much beat Denver in all phases of the game. (dek) — My #5. Beat Denver solidly, and with Kaut in the Kage, this may be a sign of things to come given Tambroni. (hoyaboy) — Lions are two wins up and have biggie vs. Irish acomin'. (jhu7276) — #9. Defeat of an impressive Denver team merits a move into the top 10 for Coach T and his troops. (laxfan1313) — 13, +1. Defeated Michigan and really opened some eyes with a terrific performance against Denver in a neutral site game in FL. The Irish visit this week. (Lax Fidelis) — #5. Welcome to the top 5 win with an impressive win over a great team. (maddog9718) — 6. Strong win over Denver. Had to move them up several notches. One game or a season setter? (OCanada) — #10. The Nittany Lions are 2-0. Beat Michigan and had a nice win over Denver. (PSU) — RR#6. (randyrad) — #8-Big W over Pioneers. (Strannywastheman) — Big time win over Denver. (Tecumseh) — #8. (VTD)

Lehigh: Nice road win for the Hawks. (Baldo) — #12. Solid 11-9 victory over Villanova. Move up a spot with Syracuse losing. (Cooter) — #12. Solid early season win over Nova. (dek) — #11. Beat Denver and Hawks will fly. (hoyaboy) — #12. Defeated Villanova and St. Joe's this week. (laxfan1313) — 5, +2. Hawks ran all over St. Joe's followed by a two-goal win at Villanova. Next up: the trip to hell: at Denver and Air Force on back-to-back days. If Poillon is hot, they could sweep. (Lax Fidelis) — #7. Edged a decent Villanova team. (maddog9718) — 11. Two games and two wins. Off to a good start. (OCanada) — #6. They are 2-0 with a good win over Villanova. They will face a Denver Team looking to bounce back. (PSU) — RR#7. (randyrad) — #9-St. Joe's and Nova wins tough to read. (Strannywastheman) — Impressive win over the Wildcats. (Tecumseh) — #6. (VTD)

Colgate: Off to a good start but not against top competition yet. (Baldo) — #9. Narrow OT win over Bryant followed by a 13-7 win over Vermont. Stay at 9. (Cooter) — #13. Smooth start to the season with wins over Vermont and Bryant. (dek) — #10 Because Baum is a team difference maker. (hoyaboy) — 2-0 ... 'Gate starting off well in 2013. (jhu7276) — #13. Defeated Vermont and Bryant this week. (laxfan1313) — 11, +1. OT win over in a visit to Bryant. Struggled early in a visit to Vermont but prevailed 13-7. The Raiders open with five road games. (Lax Fidelis) — 10. Two wins in two games. (OCanada) — #7. Two wins on the year. Don't look ahead to Cornell ... Must get by Dartmouth first. (PSU) — RR#9. (randyrad) — #12-OT win over a good Bryant. (Strannywastheman) — A solid win over Bryant and a beating to Vermont. Impressive attack. (Tecumseh) — #10. (VTD)

North Carolina: Tough loss to the Gorillas after leading the entire game. (Baldo) — #8. Tough 12-11 loss to UMass demonstrates the usual question marks about UNC. (Cooter) — #8. Unable to hold lead vs. UMass down the stretch. (dek) — My #13 Hoo boy fattylax and the Mass recruits out to prove a point? UNC and their "embarrassment of talent" is old and tiresome by now. (hoyaboy) — Taken down by UMass. (jhu7276) — #8. I'm through ranking the Tar Heels based upon potential. Lost to UMass and deserve a downgrade until they produce. (laxfan1313) — 8, -3. Cruised past Air Force 16-8. Played UMass in Kennesaw, GA and were outscored 4-0 in Q4 to lose 12-11. (Lax Fidelis) — #12. Avg. defensive effort and three Qs of offense doesn't equate to wins. (maddog9718) — 12. Lost to UMass playing without Manny. A total surprise to me. The same old ... same old. (OCanada) — #12. Beaten by UMass. (PSU) — RR#12. (randyrad) — #10-UMass is a team the Heels need to beat. (Strannywastheman) — Another thud! Coaching staff under the gun already from the faithful. (Tecumseh) — #11. (VTD)

Denver: Could not follow up a win over Duke with another victory over Penn State. (Baldo) — #11. Big win over Duke then a loss to PSU. (Cooter) — #9. Look to be right in the thick of it with big win over Duke. PSU outplayed Denver for most of their game. (dek) — This team should be good ... what happened vs. PSU? (jhu7276) — #10. Lost to the Nittany Lions and beat Duke. That's why they are ranked below PSU and above Duke. (laxfan1313) — 12, -4. Good win in Durham lifted the Pioneers but Penn State ran them into the ground in J'ville. Hosting Lehigh and Canisius this weekend. (Lax Fidelis) — #8. Ran into a gritty PSU team after an impressive win at Duke. (maddog9718) — 7. Beat Duke but lost of PSU. Losing Carrero hurt, but they looked poor on the defensive side of the field. (OCanada) — #13. Beaten by Penn State. (PSU) — RR#11. (randyrad) — #11-Beat Duke, but Penn State too much. (Strannywastheman) — Disappointing but it's early. (Tecumseh) — #12. (VTD)

Duke: THUD of the week. Dusted by the Irish at home. (Baldo) — #13. 14-12 loss to Denver and then a 13-5 loss to Notre Dame drop them down from #5. (Cooter) — #11. Falls after being manhandled by Notre Dame at home. Some tough games on the horizon. (dek) — My #13. Is this the usual early disappointment, or are there deeper problems in Durham? I think that when the Irish beat you with offense, I think the latter; time will tell. (hoyaboy) — #11. Thudd. Pasted by the Fighting Irish and taken down by Denver. Off to their typical slow start and will have to earn their way up the ladder. (laxfan1313) — 9, -6. Early season woes again: blew a healthy lead in a loss to visiting Denver. Romped past Jax the following day. Clobbered at home by UND, 13-5. Beat Mercer. At Penn on Friday. (Lax Fidelis) — #13. Ran into a ND buzz saw on their own turf; I expect this team to turn it around. (maddog9718) — 13. Lost to Denver and then to Notre Dame. They have some things to work out. (OCanada) — #19. They are 2-2 on the year. Did not show up vs. the Irish. They can move back up with some wins over the next four games: Penn, Maryland, Loyola, and Carolina. (PSU) — RR#13. (randyrad) — #13-Losses to Denver and Irish were not pretty. Slow starts pretty typical in Durham. (Strannywastheman) — 0-2, but it's only February. (Tecumseh) — #13. (VTD)

Albany: #20. Big upset of Syracuse in 2OT. Thompsons coming up big, and Riordon did the job in goal. (Cooter) — #15. Thompsons, oh my! Albany shocks lacrosse and picks up a signature win over Syracuse in the Dome. (dek) — My #8. You score 16 on an above-avg. defense, and you are a contender, pure and simple. Thompsons are simply the best in D1 at this time. There is nothing out there like these kids, AND they make other average players better to boot. (hoyaboy) — Barn burner over the Cuse with "the Thompson Twins" ... let the lovin' start. (jhu7276) — Unranked, #19. The Thompson clan put on a clinic at the Dome, tallying 18 points in a thrilling 16-15 double-OT win over the Orange. (Lax Fidelis) — #15. Double OT win over Syracuse. (PSU) — RR#19. (randyrad) — #14-Wow. Beating Cuse is huge. Danes back? (Strannywastheman) — Big win over 'Cuse! (Tecumseh) — #16. (VTD)

Princeton: Did not play this week. (Baldo) — #14. Did not play yet. (Cooter) — #14. No action yet. (dek) — Season hasn't started yet ... should challenge again in the Ivy. (jhu7276) — #15. (laxfan1313) — 14, -1. DNP. at Hofstra to begin 2013. (Lax Fidelis) — 15. Did not play. (OCanada) — #11 DNP. The Tigers first four games are tough. Hofstra, Hopkins, Villanova, and Carolina. (PSU) — RR#18. (randyrad) — #16-DNP. (Strannywastheman) — #14. (VTD)

Syracuse: Double THUD of the week. (Baldo) — #15. Upset by Albany 16-15 in 2OT. Nice come from behind effort by Syracuse, as they trailed 8-3 in this game. (Cooter) — #16. Some real positive signs for Cuse at FO and in Marasco's performance despite Albany loss. (dek) — My #15. This team has JoJo Marasco and no face-off. They will definitely break .500 and make the dance. (hoyaboy) — Knocked off by Albany ... big game vs. Black Knights coming up. (jhu7276) — #16. Loss to Albany earns downgrade. (laxfan1313) — 17, -2. Hosted Albany and got Thompsonized. The family rang up 18 points on the porous Orange defense. Great Danes prevailed 16-15 in 2OT. (Lax Fidelis) — 14. Lost to Albany. Shocked at the way their keeper and defense played. (OCanada) — #16. Beat by Albany. (PSU) — #15-Albany loss a stunner. Cuse down again? (Strannywastheman) — #17. (VTD)

Fairfield: Nice opener win over a tough Bryant squad. (Baldo) — #18. Back in the top 20 with an 8-6 win over Bryant. (Cooter) — #17. Nice come from behind win over Bryant, which may be a very good team. (dek) — #14. (hoyaboy) — #14. Defeated Bryant. (laxfan1313) — 16, +1. (randyrad) — #17-Beating Bryant a good win. Face-offs? (Strannywastheman) — Win over Bryant with a confident Navy team coming to town on Tuesday. (Tecumseh) — #15. (VTD)

Ohio State: Close call in Florida against Jacksonville. (Baldo) — #17. 2-0 with wins over Detroit and Jacksonville ... not saying a lot. (Cooter) — #18. Pushed a bit more than expected by Jacksonville. (dek) — 2-0 Buckeyes. (jhu7276) — #20. Beat Detroit. (laxfan1313) — 20, #3. Buckeyes open with two wins in should-win match-ups. Shouldn't have any trouble getting past newbie Marquette this week. (Lax Fidelis) — 19. Two wins to open the season brings them into my top 20. (OCanada) — #17. Marquette this week and then ... Penn State, Denver, Virginia, and Notre Dame. (PSU) — RR#16. (randyrad) — #20-Jax more of a problem than they should have been. Bucks unimpressive. (Strannywastheman) — Nice win over Jacksonville and a so-so win over a very weak UDM team. (Tecumseh) — #18. (VTD)

Yale: Did not play this week. (Baldo) — #16. Did not play yet. Move up one with Bucknell losing to MSM. (Cooter) — #17. (laxfan1313) — 15, +1. DNP. Season beings with a visit to St. John's. (Lax Fidelis) — 16. Did not play. (OCanada) — RR#17. (randyrad) — #18-DNP. (Strannywastheman) — #24. (VTD)

Host the Tigers of Princeton this week. (PSU) — RR#15. (randyrad) — #23-Sacred Heart not much of a test. (Strannywastheman) — Lots of big games coming up! (Tecumseh) — #21. (VTD)

Drexel: Game effort against the Hoos in C'Ville fell just short. (Baldo) — #19. Tough OT loss to UVa on the road keeps them in the top 20. (Cooter) — #20. Solid offensive performance vs. the Hoos in Cville. Nice ball movement and good depth on offense. (dek) — #23. (laxfan1313) — Unranked, #21. Another valiant effort by the Dragons comes up short with an OT road loss to the 'Hoos. (Lax Fidelis) — 20. Tough loss to Virginia. If they can continue to play into the season, they will be moving up. (OCanada) — #18. Beaten by Virginia. (PSU) — Should have, could have, would have. Nice job, boys! (Tecumseh) — #23. (VTD)

Navy: NR. Were my 20th team until Albany upset Syracuse. (Cooter) — 2-0 with a good start. (jhu7276) — #20. They are 2-0, but they play my #21 Fairfield next ... Who knows at this point in the season. (PSU) — #19. (VTD)

Delaware: 1-2, but both losses were close calls. (jhu7276) — #21-Nearly took down the Hounds and Bucknell. (Strannywastheman) — #22. (VTD)
