Pollsters' Comments About Teams They Ranked

Maryland: Still winning, still #1. (Baldo) — #1. (Cooter) — Beat the Seawolves ... Testy stays on top. (jhu7276) — #1. My #1 this week, although Cornell is ranked #1 in LP computer ranking, KRACH and RPI (Maryland #2 in each). We'll see. (laxfan1313) — #1. Maryland had little trouble with Stony Brook, led 11-2 early in Q3, and coasted the rest of the way for a 13-7 win. Clear #1 at this time. The Terps visit Villanova this week. (Lax Fidelis) — #1. Dispatched Stony Brook. (maddog9718) — 1. Beat Stony Brook after UNC game was postponed. No reason to drop them. (OCanada) — RR#1. (randyrad) — #1-Raffa and Terps rolled over Stony Brook. (Strannywastheman) — A cake walk over SB. (Tecumseh) — #1. (VTD)

Cornell: Barnburner winner in Cville. Ivy favorites for now. (Baldo) — #2. (Cooter) — 5-0 and lookin' fine like cherry wine ... solid at #2. (jhu7276) — #2. The clear #2 this week although ranked number 1 in LP computer ranking, KRACH and RPI. 5-0 start matches 2007 start. Gut check victory under the lights at Virginia. Next up: Yale. (laxfan1313) — #2, +1. Slow start for 5-0 Big Red at Canisius, but they rolled anyway, 18-8. Huge rally for the Big Red after trailing 9-5 in the 2nd half at Virginia. In a wild finish, Cornell finally prevailed, 12-11. Cornell starts Ivy play at Yale, last year's Ivy tournament champion. (Lax Fidelis) — #2. Toughed out a win at UVa. (maddog9718) — 2. Game time and location moved, but they take down UVa in regulation. Barely. Big away win for Red. (OCanada) — RR#2. (randyrad) — #2-Canisius hung around until halftime. Battle with Hoos was terrific lacrosse. Move up to #2. (Strannywastheman) — Pannell's machine continues to run! (Tecumseh) — #2. (VTD)

Denver: Hung on to beat Buckeyes in Columbus. (Baldo) — #5. (Cooter) — 5-1 over OSU ... "aw, shucks" has them playing well. (jhu7276) — #3. By default after Loyola and Notre Dame lost. (laxfan1313) — #3, +3. Pioneers squeaked past OSU 10-9 in Columbus. Notre Dame visits the Mile High City for another important mid-season pairing. (Lax Fidelis) — #3. Defeated a strong tOSU squad. (maddog9718) — Beat OSU the week after beating PSU. The way the season is going, just getting the W is a big deal. (OCanada) — RR#6. (randyrad) — #4-Barely got by Bucks. (Strannywastheman) — Handled the Buckeyes. (Tecumseh) — #6. (VTD)

Notre Dame: DOUBLE THUD of the week - luck finally ran out spotting opponents leads. (Baldo) — #3. (Cooter) — THUD of the week ... upset by Hofstra. (jhu7276) — #7. Thud against Hofstra. Weak offense coming home to roost. (laxfan1313) — #4, -2. The Irish hosted Hofstra and the visitors handed their hosts their first loss of 2013, 8-7. Saturday night finds the UND crew in Denver for a tough match-up against the Pioneers. (Lax Fidelis) — #4. Taken down by Hofstra. (maddog9718) — Two OT wins followed by the loss to Hofstra. It seems teams have made adjustments. (OCanada) — RR#3. (randyrad) — #5-Hofstra just too much in a close one. Surprising. (Strannywastheman) — Tough loss, OUCH! (Tecumseh) — #5. (VTD)

Princeton: Lost a tough one in Chapel Hill - but will contend for Ivy crown. (Baldo) — #4. (Cooter) — Close loss vs. UNC. (jhu7276) — #13. Disappointing setback against North Carolina drops the Tigers back. They should climb again. (laxfan1313) — #8, -3. Tigers struggled against visiting Villanova, trailing 10-7 as the Wildcats dominated ToP. Jeff Froccaro led Princeton to score 7 of the last 8 goals en route to a 14-11 win. Whew. Tigers lost a 16-15 buzzer-beater at UNC. Busy week as Tigers host Manhattan and play at surprising 4-1 Penn. (Lax Fidelis) — #6. Valiant comeback came up short in Chapel Hill. (maddog9718) — Lost to UNC away by one. Amazing the offense they are producing because of the addition of a few key freshmen. (OCanada) — RR#4. (randyrad) — #8-Got pushed by Nova. Heels finished strong and stole this one from the Tigers. (Strannywastheman) — Handled by the Tar Heels. (Tecumseh) — #3. (VTD)

North Carolina: Gutsy win at home against Princeton with two scores in the final minute. (Baldo) — #7. (Cooter) — Nice win over Princeton ... starting to gel??? (jhu7276) — #4. Close victory over a good Princeton team that convincingly beat JHU. (laxfan1313) — #7. +2. Tar Heels staged a late 2-goal rally to nip Princeton with the winning goal at the :03 mark. A wonderful game to watch for the unaffiliated fan like me. Duke visits on Wednesday, Dartmouth visits Chapel Hill on Saturday. (Lax Fidelis) — #5. Held on for a win against PU. Duke up next. (maddog9718) — Lost to UMass and UNC and then beat Princeton at home. (OCanada) — RR#9. (randyrad) — #6-Hung tough and nipped Princeton at the buzzer. Haven't won many of these lately. Never know what UNC will show up. (Strannywastheman) — Beat a good Tigers' team. (Tecumseh) — #7. (VTD)

Johns Hopkins: Still no quality wins. (Baldo) — #8. (Cooter) — Two wins over fatty's "cupcakes" ... now the real tests start with Cuse in Dome. (jhu7276) — #5. So far the Blue Jays have played only one team (Princeton) computer ranked above 42. The next three weeks, JHU will play Syracuse, Virginia and North Carolina. Will this be the high water mark? (laxfan1313) — #10. Home-standing Jays thumped Mount St. Mary's 19-9 in front of very few hearty souls; Jays ho-hummed their way past UMBC 13-7. Things get much more interesting (and difficult) now: at Syracuse on Saturday. (Lax Fidelis) — #9. Big match-up w/ Cuse on deck. (maddog9718) — Princeton loss is looking relatively better now. UMBC was not a test. (OCanada) — RR#5. (randyrad) — #3-Ran over the Mount - do we really need this game going forward? UMBC didn't have much. Hop keeps climbing. (Strannywastheman) — Finally to the tough part of the schedule. (Tecumseh) — #8. (VTD)

Hofstra: Upset of the week, knocking off the Irish in South Bend. (Baldo) — #6. (Cooter) — Moving up with big win over ND. (jhu7276) — #10. Big victory over the Fighting Irish. Climbing week by week. (laxfan1313) — #9, +2. Big win at Notre Dame boosts Seth Tierney's troops in the polls. They shouldn't have any trouble at Delaware, but Colonial AA game results are often mystifying. (Lax Fidelis) — #7. Big jump w/ huge win at Notre Dame. (maddog9718) — Only loss is to Princeton. Big win over ND. (OCanada) — RR#7. (randyrad) — #9-Big win over Irish for Dutchmen. (Strannywastheman) — High quality win over ND. (Tecumseh) — #4. (VTD)

Virginia: Heartbreaker of a loss to Red at home. (Baldo) — #9. (Cooter) — I'm actually moving them up with Cornell loss. (jhu7276) — #12. Despite one-goal losses to Syracuse and Cornell, Virginia has reloaded and will be tough down the stretch. (laxfan1313) — #6, +1. Surprisingly close 12-10 win at home against Vermont. Wahoos then lost to visiting Cornell despite leading 9-5 in the second half, ultimately losing 12-11. Ohio State visits on Saturday. (Lax Fidelis) — #10. Came up short against a strong Cornell team. (maddog9718) — Narrowly beat Vermont and then lost at home to Cornell. (OCanada) — RR#12. (randyrad) — #12-Sleepwalked to a W against Vermont. Came back to tie Cornell late, only to win the face and cough it up. Still a strong performance. (Strannywastheman) — Should have beat the Big Red. (Tecumseh) — #10. (VTD)

Syracuse: Trouble with a scrappy St. John's team in Philly. (Baldo) — #10. (Cooter) — Huge game vs. JHU ... they win, sky's the limit; they lose, return to rebuilding reality. (jhu7276) — #6. Steadily creeping back into contention. (laxfan1313) — #11, +2. The Orange knocked off visiting St. John's 13-11. Hopkins rolls into town. These two long-time foes have had some great battles in the Dome as well as some controversy over the years. (Lax Fidelis) — #8. Edged a good SJ team. Hopkins up next. (maddog9718) — Beating the Johnnies when others are losing. Their midfield look to be improving. (OCanada) — RR#8. (randyrad) — #11-Redmen gave Cuse all they could handle. (Strannywastheman) — Beat a very good St. John's team. (Tecumseh) — #9. (VTD)

Loyola: Loss on the road to the "upstart" Dukies. (Baldo) — #12. (Cooter) — Ouch ... second THUD of the week vs. Duke. (jhu7276) — #8. No more deference to the defending champs. Loss to Duke drops the Greyhounds. (laxfan1313) — #5, -1. The Hounds went to Durham and lost 9-8 to the Duke Blue Devils. Danowski started Turri in goal but claimed it wasn't a permanent change. Color me skeptical. Loyola next plays Air Force as part of a double-header in Denver. (Lax Fidelis) — #11. Lost to the Duke enigma. (maddog9718) — Lost at Duke by one after taking a week off against Bellarmine. Something seems a little off with their play. (OCanada) — RR#10. (randyrad) — #7-Started slow, came back, then let Duke take it. Still time to get things straightened out. (Strannywastheman) — Very surprised on the loss to Duke. (Tecumseh) — #12. (VTD)

Ohio State: Tough home loss to Denver - late rally falls short. (Baldo) — #11. (Cooter) — 4-1 with loss to Denver. (jhu7276) — #9. The Buckeyes look like contenders this year. (laxfan1313) — #12, -4 The Buckeyes were edged at home by Denver, 10-9. OSU visits Charlottesville this weekend. (Lax Fidelis) — #12. Came up short against Denver. (maddog9718) — Seem to be stuck on 10-9. Beating PSU and losing to Denver. They belong as of now. (OCanada) — RR#14. (randyrad) — #10-Stayed with Denver but couldn't pull it out. (Strannywastheman) — Need to win the big ones! (Tecumseh) — #13. (VTD)

Penn: Dispatched 'Nova this week. In the Ivy mix. (Baldo) — #14. (Cooter) — Quakes have only one loss. (jhu7276) — #19. 4th Ivy in the top 20. Give the Quakers their due; they beat Villanova and Lehigh this week, and I may be underestimating them at #19. (laxfan1313) — #13, +6. Quakers went to Bethlehem and edged Lehigh 6-4. Also knocked off their Main Line rival Villanova 13-9 in the Chester twin-bill. 6-game Ivy schedule begins with a huge game when Princeton visits West Philly. Quakers' only loss was high-scoring affair at Denver. (Lax Fidelis) — #13. Big win over Lehigh. PU on deck. (maddog9718) — Only loss is to Denver. (OCanada) — RR#11. (randyrad) — #13-Took down Lehigh. Started slow against Nova but finished strong. (Strannywastheman) — Just keep winning! Pride of the Ivy's right now. (Tecumseh) — #14. (VTD)

Drexel: The winning continues. (Baldo) — #13. (Cooter) — Four straight wins after opening loss to UVa. (jhu7276) — #16. Still hanging tough in the top 20 after defeating Bryant. (laxfan1313) — #14, +4. The 4-1 Dragons knocked off Bryant in W. Philly, 11-5. This week finds Drexel at Bucknell and then hosting Mount St. Mary's. Drexel's only loss was in OT at UVa. (Lax Fidelis) — Four in a row with the win over Bryant. Only loss has been to UVa. (OCanada) — RR#18. (randyrad) — #15-Ran over Bryant. (Strannywastheman) — Keep winning. (Tecumseh) — #11. (VTD)

Lehigh: The lost weekend in Colorado fades from view. (Baldo) — #18. (Cooter) — #14. Impressive victory over the Nittany Lions. (laxfan1313) — #20, -3. 6-4 loss at home to Penn looked like yet another signal that 2013 might be slipping away but the Hawks rallied by scoring five of the last six goals to defeat PSU 12-10 in Chester. Next play at Army in their Patriot League opener. (Lax Fidelis) — Beat PSU but have three losses. (OCanada) — RR#15. (randyrad) — #16-Loss to Penn hurt, but finished the week strong by beating Penn State. (Strannywastheman) — Coach "C" has 'em back. Nice win over PSU. (Tecumseh) — #20. (VTD)

Bucknell: Comeback win after early trouble against Gorillas. (Baldo) — #15. (Cooter) — 4-1 and beat UMass. (jhu7276) — #11. Last year's hard luck team won over Mass this week. (laxfan1313) — #16, +5. Scoreless for the first 35 minutes of a home game against UMass, the 4-1 Bison rallied for a 7-4 win. Next play Drexel at home. (Lax Fidelis) — #19. Big win over UMass. (maddog9718) — RR#13. (randyrad) — #19-UMass not much of a problem. (Strannywastheman) — Just keep winning. (Tecumseh) — #17. (VTD)

Yale: Ivy contenders for sure. (Baldo) — #16. (Cooter) — 3-1 with three straight wins. (jhu7276) — #18. Knocked Fairfield out of my top 20 this week. Next up, the Big Red in New Haven. (laxfan1313) — #17, +8. Elis paid back Sacred Heart after the 2012 upset loss, winning 14-9 at SH. In another backyard brawl, the Bulldogs beat the visitors from Fairfield, 12-8. Cornell in New Haven for 1st Ivy game for both squads. (Lax Fidelis) — #20. Nice win over Fairfield. Big match-up w/ Cornell this week. (maddog9718) — Only loss is to the Johnnies in their opener. (OCanada) — RR#20. (randyrad) — #17-Ran away from Sacred Heart. Started slow with Fairfield, put them away late. Big Red next week. (Strannywastheman) — Knocks Fairfield out of the top 20. (Tecumseh) — #15. (VTD)

Penn State: The swoon continues. (Baldo) — #19. (Cooter) — #17. I'm surprised PSU is drifting downward. (laxfan1313) — #14. 12-10 loss in a neutral site game against Lehigh, the 3rd straight loss for the Lions. Next game at UMass, which is also struggling. Loser of that game leaves Top 25; winner may go as well. (Lax Fidelis) — Three straight losses are too many to maintain a higher ranking. (OCanada) — RR#21. (randyrad) — #18-Got sloppy in 4th against Lehigh; penalties killed them. (Strannywastheman) — Seems to have lost the winning way. (Tecumseh) — #23. (VTD)

Duke: Back from the dead with a win over the champs at home. (Baldo) — #20. Still a losing record but defeat of Loyola earns a berth in the top 20 this week. (laxfan1313) — #21, NR. Does a 3-4 Duke team belong back in the Top 20? Not yet. One-goal win at home over Loyola helps their cause. They play at UNC on Wednesday then host the generally-inept Towson squad on Saturday and undefeated Marist on Monday, 3/18. (Lax Fidelis) — #15. Signs of life in Durham? Will find out on Wed. against UNC. (maddog9718) — Beating Loyola gets them back to the top 20. They beat lower ranked teams and lose to higher ranked teams until this weekend. (OCanada) — RR#17. (randyrad) — #14-Held off the Hounds. Back on track? (Strannywastheman) — #19. (VTD)

Massachusetts: THUD of the week for the second week in a row. Out of the Top 20 for now. (Baldo) — #17. (Cooter) — Starting to slump. (jhu7276) — #15. Loss to Bucknell drops Mass down. (laxfan1313) — #24, -12. Minutemen visited Albany and got toasted 15-9. 2nd road game of the week found the M-men at Bucknell. Despite shutting the Bison out for the 1st 35 minutes, the Gorillas lost 7-4. PSU visits Amherst, the Lions have their own woes. Both teams on 3-game losing streaks. (Lax Fidelis) — Lost to Bucknell. (OCanada) — RR#16. (randyrad) — #24-Albany and Bison all over the no-Manny Minutemen. Early season UNC win a fluke? (Strannywastheman) — #22. (VTD)

Marist: 4-0 for the Red Foxes. (jhu7276) — #15, +5. Undefeated Red Foxes kept on rolling with a 10-9 OT win at Towson. They shouldn't have much trouble dealing with the visitors from Detroit Mercy in their next game. Don't look now, but Marist has only one likely loss on their dance card - at Duke a week from today. This year's Bryant? (Lax Fidelis) — RR#25. (randyrad) — #21-Beat Towson in OT; keep winning. (Strannywastheman)

Albany: #24. Thompson clan led Albany to a 15-9 win over the guests from UMass. Surprisingly (at least to me) close game at Canisius, the Danes left with a 12-11 victory. They visit winless Bryant next. (Lax Fidelis) — RR#19. (randyrad) — #20-Big win over UMass, Thompsons came up large. Almost tripped on Canisius. (Strannywastheman) — #18. (VTD)

Colgate: 4-2. (jhu7276) — #24. (laxfan1313) — #19, -4. 9-8 OT loss at Hobart likely finished off any chance for a Colgate NCAA at-large berth. They need to win the PL crown. Won their 1st home game 14-6 over Holy Cross. Colgate meets Michigan at CitiField in Queens. (Lax Fidelis) — Following losses to Hobart and Cornell, they rebound for a win. (OCanada) — RR#24. (randyrad) — #25-Hobart took down Gate in a close one. Rebounded strong against Holy Cross. (Strannywastheman) — #21. (VTD)

Quinnipiac: #22. (laxfan1313) — #18, +5. The 3-0 Bobcats knocked off the visiting Vermont Catamounts, 10-6, in a feline mascot version of "Family Feud." Another home game sees Hartford visit Hamden. (Lax Fidelis) — #22-Beat Vermont and Brown earlier. Providence will be a good test. (Strannywastheman)

Brown: #21. (laxfan1313) — 23, NR. The 3-1 Bruins make their 2013 poll debut. They begin their 2013 Ivy schedule by hosting Harvard on Saturday night. (Lax Fidelis) — RR#22. (randyrad) — #23-Ran over Hartford, St. Joe's. (Strannywastheman) — #16. (VTD)

Fairfield: Tough home loss to Yale. (Baldo) — #23. (laxfan1313) — RR#23. (randyrad)

Providence: #25. (VTD)

St. John's: Close loss to Cuse. (jhu7276)

Bellarmine: #20. (Cooter) — #24. (VTD)
