Pollsters' Comments About Teams They Ranked

Maryland: Dodged a bullet in Philly against Nova. (Baldo) — #1. Hard-fought win on the road over Villanova keeps them undefeated and at the top. (Cooter) — #1. Terps are 6-0 and will be tough to beat, shooting 41%, scoring 41% on man-up, winning >60% facing off, and with Amato saving >60%. (dek) — Stay "numero uno" with win over Nova. (jhu7276) — My #1. Close shave against 'Nova keeps them unbeaten. The field appears to be narrowing. (laxfan1313) — #1. Maryland won at Villanova, 10-7. UNC in College Park is the Terps' next test. (Lax Fidelis) — #1. Top dog still on top. (maddog9718) — 1. Beat Stony Brook and stay undefeated. (OCanada) — RR#1. (randyrad) — #1-Nova hung around, but Terps continue to roll. (Strannywastheman) — Sitting on top of the world #1. (Tecumseh)

Cornell: Barn-burner win in New Haven. (Baldo) — #2. Solid win over Yale keeps them undefeated and number 2. (Cooter) — #2. Big Red holds on to second place with their win over Yale. The Ivies look very competitive this year. (dek) — Do what good teams do ... "just win, baby". (jhu7276) — My #2. Close defeat of Yale after losing 22/25 faceoffs. I no longer believe the Big Red and Terps are head and shoulders above the rest. Any four of the top 10 can make the final 4. Bucknell next on Tuesday at the 'kopf. (laxfan1313) — #2. Big Red lost almost every stat category at Yale except the important one: final score was 12-10, Cornell. Big week in Ithaca as they host Bucknell and Penn. Hopefully the weather will at least be above freezing and snow-free but it's not looking good as of now. (Lax Fidelis) — #2. Edged Yale in a close game. (maddog9718) — 2. Beat Elis to remain undefeated. (OCanada) — RR#2. (randyrad) — #2-Yale battled hard, but Mock was the difference. He should be in the running for the Tewaaraton. (Strannywastheman) — Only beat Yale by 2. They are one injury away from being average. (Tecumseh)

Notre Dame: Yet another miracle finish for the Domers. (Baldo) — #3. Four 1-goal games in a row. At OSU on Wednesday. Will it be five in a row? (Cooter) — #3. UND's schedule is front-loaded, and they'll be through the toughest part of it once they play OSU next week. They've managed to put together a nice 4-1 record so far, despite being pretty much statistically even with their opponents on many measures. (dek) — I have ND and Denver tied for #3 and #4 ... you can flip-flop them in the poll. (jhu7276) — My #3. Showed some offense this week, defeating Denver in OT. (laxfan1313) — #3, +1. With a 13-12 OT win at Denver, the Irish regain my #3 slot. Two games this week: they host a strong Ohio State team then visit weak Rutgers. (Lax Fidelis) — #3. Late game heroics continue against a top Denver team. (maddog9718) — 4. Beat Denver at Denver. If home field is worth about 2-3 goals, then Denver's home field is about one goal more. (OCanada) — RR#3. (randyrad) — #3-Denver pushed them, but Irish win most of the close ones. (Strannywastheman) — Won a great game in Denver. (Tecumseh)

Denver: Gave away a lead late and the game to the Irish in OT at home. (Baldo) — #5. Close loss to Notre Dame keeps them at 5th. Their list of wins is looking better and better with Duke and Lehigh returning to form and OSU and UPenn having big wins over the weekend. (Cooter) — #4. Denver is 5-2 vs. a solid early season schedule, scoring on over 40% of their shots and 40% on EMO. FO win % is a bit low but should improve when Carraro is back at full strength. (dek) — OT loss to ND. Darn good squad. (jhu7276) — My #5. Heartbreaking loss against the Fighting Irish, but ringing up 12 goals against ND's 1st Team AA Kemp is a good sign. (laxfan1313) — #4, -1. Pioneers hosted Notre Dame and lost in OT. Air Force visits the Pioneers this week. (Lax Fidelis) — #4. Took ND to the limit. (maddog9718) — 3. Lost to Notre Dame at home. Home is a difficult place for visitors. (OCanada) — RR#4. (randyrad) — #4-Lost a heart-breaker to the Irish. Pioneers are for real. (Strannywastheman) — A very close loss to ND. Still on my FF4 list. (Tecumseh)

Syracuse: Easily handled Hopkins in the the Dome. (Baldo) — #7. Big win over Hopkins moves them up to 7th. (Cooter) — #8. Orange have quality wins over Hoos and Jays, but low shot percent, EMO, save percent, FO win percent, and so so on GBs suggests they'll struggle to win big games consistently. (dek) — Drowned the hapless Jays in Orange juice before 6,000 plus "Empire" faithful ... this team seems to have found itself after opening loss to the Scoobs. (jhu7276) — My #4. Climbing every week, now a legit threat every game. The Orangemen have reloaded! (laxfan1313) — #9, +2. Five-goal win over visiting Johns Hopkins was good but not all that convincing given how much the Jays' errors contributed to the SU success. Farewell Big East tour this week, as the Orange will play at both Providence and Villanova for the last time in all likelihood. (Lax Fidelis) — #5. Looked elite in their win over the Jays. (maddog9718) — 7. Beat Hopkins at home. I wanted to put them in top 5 in pre-season and let an AA alum talk me out of it. But I started them higher than most, and they are moving up. (OCanada) — RR#5. (randyrad) — #6-Big win for Cuse over Hop. Can they keep it up? (Strannywastheman) — Slow starters but blew away the Jays! (Tecumseh)

Penn: Nipped the Tigers late at home. (Baldo) — #9. Crack the top 10 with win over Princeton; also have wins over Lehigh and Duke. (Cooter) — #5. Penn is 5-1 with key wins over Duke, Lehigh and Princeton. Defense has been solid, they've been winning GB battles and causing turnovers while valuing the ball on offense. Big game vs. Cornell this coming weekend. (dek) — Top 10 team so far ... tamed the Tigers in Al Franken Field (captemo, you slay me ... ). (jhu7276) — My #7. Great OT victory over Princeton vaults the Quakers into the top 10. Huge match-up on Saturday against Cornell in Ithaca. (laxfan1313) — #8, +5. Hot start for the 2013 Quakers continued as they hosted Princeton and hung on for a 11-10 victory. The frying pan stays hot: they travel to Ithaca to play #2 Cornell. (Lax Fidelis) — #6. Big validation for a top 10 ranking with win over PU. (maddog9718) — 9. Only loss was away at Denver. Beat Princeton. (OCanada) — RR#7. (randyrad) — #8-Penn steps up once again and takes down a big dog in the Tigers. (Strannywastheman) — Very strong midfielders and getting better every week. A big test with Cornell coming. (Tecumseh)

Ohio State: Upset the Hoos in CVille. (Baldo) — #8. Big win at UVa gets the Buckeyes back in the top 10. (Cooter) — #7. Big win over UVa in Klockner. OSU is playing a pretty young team with lots of good talent from Canada's u-19 team. They'll be a tough match-up for most teams. (dek) — Holy Buckeye, BigTenMan! Only one loss. Beat UVa and having their best year ever so far. (jhu7276) — My #8. The Buckeyes are doing Ohio proud. Thrilling victory over Virginia makes OSU a top 10 team. (laxfan1313) — #7, +5. Good win for the Buckeyes as they won a weather-delayed game at Virginia, 11-10. That win pushed them into my Top 10. Big game midweek when they visit Notre Dame and then another road game at 6-1 Bellarmine. (Lax Fidelis) — #7. Any win in C-ville is a big win; tOSU looks dangerous. (maddog9718) — 6. Followed the loss an Denver with a win at UVa. (OCanada) — RR#6. (randyrad) — #7-Nice win over Hoos, but can't go all in on Bucks yet. (Strannywastheman) — Beat Virginia at home. Huge win indeed over the Wahoos. (Tecumseh)

Hofstra: Another week, another win. (Baldo) — #4. Their win over Notre Dame a weekend ago gets them to 4th this week. (Cooter) — #9. Hofstra has ridden excellent defense and play in goal to a 5-1 record with solid wins over Notre Dame and Princeton. Their 85% clear rate and so-so performance on ground balls raise questions going forward. (dek) — Only one loss ... 5-1. (jhu7276) — My #6. Beat Delaware 10-5. Solid contender this year. (laxfan1313) — #5, +4. The Dutchmen doubled up on their host 10-5 at Delaware. This week finds them playing at St. John's and then hosting a solid Drexel squad. (Lax Fidelis) — 8. Followed the ND win with a win over the Blue Hens. (OCanada) — RR#11. (randyrad) — #14-Knocked off Blue Hens. (Strannywastheman) — The ND win looms so large. (Tecumseh)

Princeton: Second week in a row coming up short. (Baldo) — #6. Loss to Penn drops them to 6th. Have wins over Hopkins and Hofstra. (Cooter) — #6. Tigers are 4-2 w/ wins over JHU and Hofstra, and losses to Penn and UNC. Tigers have been outrunning other teams on offense, keeping penalties down, and scoring at a high rate on EMO, while keeping pretty other areas close to even. (dek) — Tough loss to the Quake. (jhu7276) — My #11. Close loss to Penn but still a quality team. They'll rise from here. (laxfan1313) — #13, -5. Romped past Manhattan's Jaspers, 15-2. Opened Ivy schedule at Penn with a tough 11-10 loss in a weather-interrupted game. On Friday night a rugged Yale squad visits Old Nassau. (Lax Fidelis) — #12. Lost to a good Penn team. (maddog9718) — 12. Sandwiched a win over Manhattan with losses to UNC and Penn. (OCanada) — RR#10. (randyrad) — #11-Rolled through Manhattan, but Quakes were too much. Yale next. (Strannywastheman) — A very good Yale team coming to town. Need to bounce back. (Tecumseh)

Loyola: Back on track a mile up at Air Force. (Baldo) — #11. Still looking for a quality win. (Cooter) — #15. Loyola is 5-2 and should roll up some wins as they go through the next few games. (dek) — Back on track with win over the Falcons. (jhu7276) — My #9. Beat AF but moved down a notch to make room for other rising teams. (laxfan1313) — #6, -1. Six-goal win at Air Force puts the Greyhounds back on the winning track. This week: at Georgetown midweek, Michigan on Saturday in Ann Arbor. Should the Georgetown/Loyola game be named the 1st Annual Pope Francis Bowl? (;>). (Lax Fidelis) — 5. Beat Air Force after the loss to Duke. (OCanada) — RR#12. (randyrad) — #5-Grounded Air Force. (Strannywastheman) — Sawyer hurt, still looking for its direction forward, needs to find its mojo. (Tecumseh)

North Carolina: Home loss to Dukies does not bode well for Heels. (Baldo) — #10. Loss to Duke drops them to 10th. (Cooter) — #13. 3-3 with one big win over Princeton. Similar to UVa in many ways this year, although UNC attack looks stronger, while midfield looks young and not quite as strong. (dek) — Still having troubles ... lost the first battle between Durham and Chapel Hill. (jhu7276) — My #12. Thud against Duke ... as happened 13 out of the last 14 times. (laxfan1313) — #12, -5. Tar Heels lost 11-8 at home to Duke. They host Dartmouth today. They have an even-tougher Saturday date: at #1 Maryland. (Lax Fidelis) — #11. Inconsistent play against Duke dooms the Heels. (maddog9718) — 14. Not able to win most of their games against top teams. Lost to Duke. (OCanada) — RR#9. (randyrad) — #10-Defense was an issue against Duke, consistently slid late or not at all. Came back but couldn't close. (Strannywastheman) — Still starting fast and is the annual end of season fade? I hope not. (Tecumseh)

Duke: Back from the dead? (Baldo) — #16. Seem to be going uphill now with three straight victories. Play undefeated Marist on Monday. (Cooter) — #11. 5-4 with recent wins over Loyola and UNC, Duke look like they are in the process of righting the ship. At this point 2nd place in the ACC would not be a surprise. (dek) — Best 5-4 team in the nation and on the rise. (jhu7276) — My #10. Slow start fading into memory. The Blue Devils are coming on now. (laxfan1313) — #10, +11. Knocked off Carolina in Chapel Hill in a midweek night game, 11-8. Coasted past the Tigers from Towson 12-4. Two more home games: Marist on Monday, Georgetown on Saturday. (Lax Fidelis) — #10. Big win against UNC seemingly on cue as Duke resumes its annual "2nd-half-of-the-season march." (maddog9718) — 10. Three straight over UNC, Towson and Loyola and back at number 10. (OCanada) — RR#8. (randyrad) — #9-Started fast, cooled, then finished strong. Wolff looked great from behind the crease. Towson no problem. (Strannywastheman) — Big statement win over UNC when it mattered. (Tecumseh)

Virginia: THUD of the week, losing to the Buckeyes at home. (Baldo) — #12. Three 1-goal losses. One ponders the difference a healthy LaPierre could have made. (Cooter) — #14. 5-3 with a tight win over Drexel, and 1-goal losses to Cornell, Cuse, and OSU, all good teams. Some question marks at attack, goal, and on defense. (dek) — OSU beats Wahoos ... they should get healthy vs. JHU (their favorite patsies). (jhu7276) — My #14. This looks like the low water mark for the 'Hoos. A victory on Saturday over JHU will boost their playoff chances. (laxfan1313) — #11, -5. Bad weather in C'ville interrupted the game against Ohio State, but the 'Hoos couldn't reverse the trend when play resumed and lost 11-10. Cavaliers head to Homewood Field for a game in which both teams badly need a win. (Lax Fidelis) — #13. Tripped up by a good tOSU team. (maddog9718) — 15. Have lost their last three games to top teams. (OCanada) — RR#13. (randyrad) — #12-Losing to OSU tells us that Hoos are not what they used to be. (Strannywastheman) — Three bad losses: 'Cuse, Cornell and OSU. (Tecumseh)

Johns Hopkins: Failure to take care of the ball on offense and lackluster, porous defense doomed the Jays. (Baldo) — #13. Got beat convincingly by Syracuse. No quality wins. (Cooter) — #12. 5-2, but were solidly beaten by the two quality teams they've played. Tough to rank vs. UNC and UVa at this point. (dek) — ABSOLUTE WORST 5-2 team in the nation ... CHOCOLATE THUNDER (with apologies to Darryl Dawkins) THUD of the week vs. the Orange ... back to the drawing board ... time for some LMFAO-style "shufflin'" of personnel ... Hoos salivating for an avian lunch. (jhu7276) — My #13. Dominated by the Orangemen. Looks like possible trouble on Charles Street with Virginia looming at M&T Bank. (laxfan1313) — #19, -9. Blue Jays lost 13-8 at Syracuse. Sloppy ball-handling and defensive lapses cost them any chance of winning. They head home to play Virginia, which has given them nightmares for well over a decade, even at Homewood Field. 2010 again? Pierce Bassett should sue his D for non-support. (Lax Fidelis) — #15. Ran into an Orange buzz saw in the 1st Q - still looking for a quality win. (maddog9718) — 13. Lost to Cuse at Cuse. They have yet to get a signature win, and their lack of ball control has cost them two key games. (OCanada) — RR#15. (randyrad) — #13-Cuse on the rise, Hop on the slide. (Strannywastheman) — Stung in the Dome by an every improving SU. (Tecumseh)

Bucknell: Easy dispatch of Lafayette at their place. (Baldo) — #14. Have won five straight since their loss to MSM. At Cornell on Wednesday and then at Albany on the weekend. (Cooter) — #10. 6-1 record, solid offense with four players over 20 points each, defense that's holding opponents to under 7 goals/game on average, winning the GB battle, much better than opponents on CT, and on limiting TO. Look like the class of the PL. (dek) — Also only one loss ... could they beat JHU if they played? hmmm ... "discuss amongst yourselves". (jhu7276) — My #15. With Cornell looming on Tuesday, Bucknell is putting together an impressive resume. Look out for freshman Tom Flibotte. The Bison face two of the top three offenses this week: Cornell (1) and Albany (3). (laxfan1313) — #14, +2. The herbivores ate the reptiles! BU beat Drexel 17-8. The 6-1 Bison had little trouble at Lafayette, winning 13-6. Very tough O-O-C game when they head to Cornell, Bison play Albany at home to finish the week. (Lax Fidelis) — #16. Putting things together in a big win over Drexel. (maddog9718) — 17. Three straight wins. (OCanada) — RR#16. (randyrad) — #18-Owned Drexel. Not even close. Offense explosive. Lafayette no problem. (Strannywastheman) — Big win over Drexel. (Tecumseh)

Lehigh: Easy Patriot win over Army. (Baldo) — #18. Starting to turn things around after a tough trip out to Colorado back in February. (Cooter) — #17. 5-3 with good wins over PSU and Army. Likely to challenge Bucknell for the PL title. (dek) — My #17. Beat Army this week. Mass looms. (laxfan1313) — #17, +3. Mountain Hawks opened their Patriot slate with a 10-6 win at Army. They seem to have recovered from that disaster in the Rockies. Two road games this week: at stumbling UMass and Holy Cross. (Lax Fidelis) — #14. Beat Army and still a dangerous team. (maddog9718) — 20. Lost to Penn and had two losses in Colorado. (OCanada) — RR#14. (randyrad) — #16-Beat Army. (Strannywastheman) — Nice win over Army ... Hawks keep flying. (Tecumseh)

Drexel: Workmanlike win at home against MSM. (Baldo) — #15. Got beat by Drexel badly, but rebounded with a win over MSM. Visit Hofstra on Saturday. (Cooter) — #16. 5-2 with some good wins. How they do in league play, which starts for them next week, will make or break their chance for an NCAA bid. (dek) — Beat the Mount. (jhu7276) — My #16. Dominated by Bucknell but came back to defeat MSM. (laxfan1313) — #16, -2. They were swamped at Bucknell, 17-8. The Dragons returned to the win column when MSM was sent home with a 14-11 loss. Very tough game ahead as they next play at Hofstra. (Lax Fidelis) — 19. Lost badly to Bucknell. (OCanada) — RR#17. (randyrad) — #19-Were not competitive against Bison; beat the Mount. (Strannywastheman) — Smoked by Bucknell. (Tecumseh)

Yale: Tough but competitive game in loss to #2 Cornell. (Baldo) — #17. Played Cornell tough this past weekend. At Princeton on Friday. (Cooter) — Go down to the Big Red ... ouch. (jhu7276) — My #18. Dominated faceoff X against Cornell. Otherwise solid team committed too many turnovers. W/O turnovers, this looks like a playoff team. (laxfan1313) — #15, +2. Tough loss to Cornell in New Haven in a rugged struggle, 12-10. Critical game at Princeton, as both squads opened their Ivy schedule with a loss. A second one is going to put the loser in a tough spot very early in the year. (Lax Fidelis) — 11. Lost to Cornell by two. (OCanada) — RR#18. (randyrad) — #15-Played a strong game to lose by 2 to Big Red. EMO needs work, but FO specialist Dylan Levings won 88%. Yeah, I said 88%. Princeton next. (Strannywastheman) — A very good team with the best FOGO in the house. (Tecumseh)

Penn State: Won on the road against the reeling Gorillas. (Baldo) — #19. Back to .500 with a nice win over UMass. (Cooter) — #18. 3-3 but started the year with a very difficult schedule, and may be poised to do very well in league play. Nice early win over Denver. (dek) — Bounce back over UMass. (jhu7276) — My #19. I'm surprised the Nittany Lions are at this end of the poll. Count on Coach T to bring 'em back. (laxfan1313) — #23, +2. The Nittany Lions broke their three-game losing skid with a 7-5 win at UMass (knocking UMass out of my poll). Two games this coming week: at Binghamton, then they host St. Joe's. (Lax Fidelis) — 18. Wins over Lehigh and Mass after their losses. (OCanada) — RR#19. (randyrad) — #17-Pitchers' duel against UMass. (Strannywastheman) — Nice win over UMass. (Tecumseh)

Albany: Goals keep on coming both FOR and AGAINST. (Baldo) — #21. Have the nice win over Syracuse. (Cooter) — #19. 4-2 and looking like they may be the best team in the AE this year. (dek) — Scoobies play fast and loose and hit the net often. (jhu7276) — My #20. Hosts Bucknell this Saturday. The Bison won't be looking past their Tuesday match-up with Cornell. (laxfan1313) — #21, +1. Great Danes won 17-15 at winless and apparently luckless (0-6; 2 OT losses, three 2-goal losses) Bryant. Danes travel to meet a tough Bucknell next. (Lax Fidelis) — RR#22. (randyrad) — #20-Not much D in a 17-16 shootout over Bryant. Syracuse win looks better each week. (Strannywastheman) — Beat Bryant. (Tecumseh)

Marist: No game until Monday vs. Duke ... a big test for the Foxes. (jhu7276) — #21. (laxfan1313) — #18, -3. The Red Foxes hosted Detroit and won 11-8. We will find out about those 5-0 Red Foxes today when they play at Duke. Play at a competitive Canisius on Saturday. (Lax Fidelis) — RR#24. (randyrad) — #22-Beat Detroit. (Strannywastheman)

Colgate: #22 Two wins this week get them to 6-2. (Cooter) — Also 5-2. (jhu7276) — #23. (laxfan1313) — #20, -1. Raiders coasted past Binghamton, 12-5. Against Michigan at CitiField, the Raiders won 10-7. Important league game at sinking Navy is next. (Lax Fidelis) — 16. Three wins in the past week but no top teams among them. (OCanada) — RR#21. (randyrad) — #25-Barely held off Michigan. Ew. (Strannywastheman) — Too close for my liking against Michigan. (Tecumseh)

Brown: #20. 4-1 and right in the thick of it in the Ivy League. (dek) — #22. (laxfan1313) — #22, +1. Brown hosted Harvard (aka the Lost Cause of Allston) and won 11-9 with a 4-goal rally in Q4. Bruno sets off on spring break trip beginning at High Point on Sunday. (Lax Fidelis) — #18. Moving on up. (maddog9718) — RR#20. (randyrad) — #21-Beat Hahvaad by a couple. (Strannywastheman)

Massachusetts: Lose to PSU. (jhu7276) — RR#23. (randyrad) — #24-Lost a close one to Penn State. Capable of hanging with most. (Strannywastheman)

St. John's: Pasted Rutgers. (jhu7276) — #24, NR. 5-2 Red Storm gain the Top 25 with a 20-goal explosion against Rutgers. Other notable 2013 win is over a strong Yale squad last month. (Lax Fidelis)

Bellarmine: #20. Holding on to the 20th spot for the 3rd week in a row. Things get a bit tougher this weekend with OSU showing up in Louisville. (Cooter) — #25, NR. Last season the thought of this team being ranked any time soon would have struck me as fantasy. The Knights are 6-1 but reality seems about to knock on their front door when Ohio State visits and the schedule gets vastly more difficult for 2013. (Lax Fidelis) — #23-Schedule is flimsy, but they are 6-1. (Strannywastheman)
