Pollsters' Comments About Teams They Ranked

Denver: Cardiac Pioneers won their 4th OT game of the season in Charm City. (Baldo) — #1. (Cooter) — #4. (dek) — Overtime kings. Are they REALLY as good as their record or are they "Playing with Fire" as the Stones once sang ... aw, shucks ... we gonna find out once playoffs start. (jhu7276) — My #1. Although Notre Dame defeated the Pioneers in Denver, that was a month ago. #1 RPI earns #1 ranking. (laxfan1313) — #2, +4. Despite blowing two 5-goal leads at Loyola, the Pioneers won just 16 seconds into OT, 13-12. in 2012. Fairfield, which gave the Pioneers a late-season OT loss in 2012, visits Denver. (Lax Fidelis) — #1. Takes over the top spot with win over Loyola. (maddog9718) — 1. Beat Loyola at Loyola and Bellarmine. Both games went to OT. While they are not blowing teams away, they are winning. (OCanada) — RR#3. (randyrad) — #4-Nipped Hounds in OT. (Strannywastheman) — Coach T keeps it rolling, my new #1. (Tecumseh) — #1. (VTD)

North Carolina: Heels have quietly won six straight. (Baldo) — #2. (Cooter) — #5. (dek) — Take down Hofstra and UVa. Best year in a long time ... "second season" for Heels this year will make or break them. (jhu7276) — My #3. Playing some of the best lacrosse right now. Take down of a good Hofstra team 14-5 and #2 SOS, #3 RPI earn #3 ranking this week. (laxfan1313) — #3, +2. 9-3 Tar Heels ran wild at Hofstra on Saturday night in a 14-5 rout. UNC will host the newbie program from High Point on Friday night. Carolina is a very tough out right now. The Panthers will have trouble with Holman and the UNC "water bugs." (Lax Fidelis) — #3. Scored 11 straight goals against the best (statistically speaking) defense in the country ... defense making a difference. (maddog9718) — 3. Handled Hofstra after beating UVa. Their defense really has improved since the beginning of the season. (OCanada) — RR#4. (randyrad) — #2-Dismantled Hofstra. (Strannywastheman) — Moving on up to #4. (Tecumseh) — #2. (VTD)

Notre Dame: Flipped a coin for #1 and the Irish came out on top. Pick 'em. (Baldo) — #6. (Cooter) — #1. (dek) — Three wins in a row ... big games with Nova and Cuse coming up. (jhu7276) — My #2. Close second behind Denver with #2 RPI. (laxfan1313) — #1, +2. The Irish fell behind visiting Georgetown 4-0 just as they did in 2012 but again rallied to win, 10-8 this time. Win takes them to #1 in my rankings. Very competitive and surging (4-0 in Big East) Villanova visits South Bend next. (Lax Fidelis) — #2. Winning ... but not by much. (maddog9718) — 7. Beat an improved GT team at home. A lot of sloppy play in this one. (OCanada) — RR#1. (randyrad) — #1-Slow start but settled to take care of a Hoya squad that is playing better. Deserve top spot-Irish have beaten more good teams than anyone. (Strannywastheman) — Almost got caught by the Hoyas. (Tecumseh) — #4. (VTD)

Maryland: Loss to the Blue Jays not good for the Terps, who seem to have lost their mojo lately. (Baldo) — #4. (Cooter) — #3. (dek) — F-105 THUD of the week vs. Blue Jays ... drop from top spot. (jhu7276) — My #7. Taken down by the Blue Jays 7-4 in College Park. JHU (Maryland's opponent) was lower rated than Syracuse (Cornell's opponent) last week, and since Cornell's RPI is higher (6 vs. 8), one spot below the Big Red this week. Total domination by last week's #15 JHU justifies six place drop. (laxfan1313) — #4, -3. Hopkins was in town and pulled off a stunning upset, completely blanketing a tepid Terp offense in a 7-4 win. Yale visits, game is now important for both schools' post-season chances or seedings. My pre-season pick for NCAA champ is running on fumes. Gasp, gasp. (Lax Fidelis) — #4. Knocked off by JHU. Not sure if UMd is in a funk or if the pack has caught up to them? (maddog9718) — 2. Lost to JHU at home and never really looked like they were going to win the game. A fascinating year for people who cannot make judgments that hold up. (OCanada) — RR#2. (randyrad) — #3-Hop D too much for Terps in perhaps the most unexpected upset of the season. (Strannywastheman) — Turtles crash and burn to an angry flock of Blue Jays. (Tecumseh) — #5. (VTD)

Syracuse: Gutsy home win against Cornell and then dodging a major bullet with Rutgers in the Dome. (Baldo) — #3. (Cooter) — #7. (dek) — Beat Cornell and Rutgers. Gonna be a tough out in the playoffs. (jhu7276) — My #5. Impressive come from behind victory over Cornell earns a top 5 ranking. Close call against a now 2-11 Rutgers team. #5 RPI this week. (laxfan1313) — #5, +2. Orange pull out yet another 13-12 nail-biter over visiting Cornell. Down 10-5 to Rutgers to start Q4, Orange rallied to win 12-11. Marasco playing like 1st team AA right now. Hobart in the Dome on Tuesday, then at surprising Georgetown on Saturday. (Lax Fidelis) — #6. Nice win over Cornell. (maddog9718) — 4. Beat Cornell and them almost lost to Rutgers. (OCanada) — RR#5. (randyrad) — #5-Effectively game-planned Pannell, aggressive D, mids that can run with anyone. Cuse looks great. Desko remains one of the very best. Took care of Rutgers. (Strannywastheman) — A classic Orange win over the Big Red. (Tecumseh) — #3. (VTD)

Cornell: Lost a heartbreaker to the Cruisers in the Dome. In the driver's seat for the Ivies, though. (Baldo) — #5. (Cooter) — #2. (dek) — Suffer only 2nd loss of the year. (jhu7276) — My #6. One-goal loss to Syracuse after leading 4-0 drops the formerly #2 Big Red four slots. #6 RPI this week. (laxfan1313) — #6, -4. Big Red hit the road midweek to Syracuse. Early 4-0 lead didn't last as the two schools battled it out to the end with the Orange taking a second straight 13-12 win. Pannell vanished after hot start; CU's GK play not too good. Love 1st midfield for Big Red. At Brown next. (Lax Fidelis) — #7. Comes up short against Cuse. (maddog9718) — 5. Lost to Syracuse. Face-offs have become a big issue. (OCanada) — RR#8. (randyrad) — #6-Started on fire but cooled in second half. Pannell was not able to do what he usually does; Buczek extremely impressive. (Strannywastheman) — Crashed in the Dome. (Tecumseh) — #8. (VTD)

Duke: Back from the dead scoring 19 in a shootout with the Hoos ... Dukies are peaking at the right time per usual. (Baldo) — #10. (Cooter) — #6. (dek) — Rolling on 8-game win streak and defeat their patsies 19-16 in shoot out ... slipknot ecstatic. (jhu7276) — My #8. Behind 13-9 to Virginia in the 3rd quarter, the Blue Devils roared back, winning the rest of the game 10-3. #7 RPI this week. Giving up 16 goals to the 5-7 'Hoos is of concern. (laxfan1313) — #7, +2. Topsy-turvy 1st half at home against UVa ended at 9-9. 'Hoos scored 4 in 1st 5 minutes of Q3 and then were pummeled by the Blue Devils during a 10-1 streak, final 19-16 Duke. Duke visits fashionable Piscataway to play 2-10 Rutgers as a tune-up for the ACC tourney. (Lax Fidelis) — #5. Sprang to life in 3rd to overcome a motivated UVa team. (maddog9718) — 8. Beat UVa by handily winning the fourth quarter. I was surprised UVa came back after Duke got up by three or so. (OCanada) — RR#6. (randyrad) — #7-Once again, Duke rolls into ACC tourney in strong form. Hoos kept scoring, but not enough. (Strannywastheman) — Dino and his troops are marching to the top. (Tecumseh) — #6. (VTD)

Loyola: Almost came back from the grave to beat Denver this week before losing in OT. (Baldo) — #11. (Cooter) — #8. (dek) — Loss to Denver breaks 5-game win streak ... no biggie. JHU game will be a really important one if Hop can beat Navy. (jhu7276) — My #4. One-goal OT loss to Denver shows that there is not much spread from #1 to #4. #10 RPI this week. (laxfan1313) — #8, -4. 'Hounds hosted Denver and quickly fell into a deep hole, twice trailing by 5 during the game. They rallied to tie the game at 12, only to quickly lose in OT. Travel to Geneva to play Hobart; should return there in two weeks for ECAC tourney. (Lax Fidelis) — #8. Edged by Denver. (maddog9718) — 6. Lost to Denver at home after beating Fairfield the week before. (OCanada) — RR#10. (randyrad) — #8-Battled Denver, lost in OT. Hounds playing well at the right time. (Strannywastheman) — They need to run the table. (Tecumseh) — #9. (VTD)

Penn State: Nittanies have quietly won six in a row. (Baldo) — #8. (Cooter) — #9. (dek) — Lions on 7-game streak, whipping the competition ... best season in years! Coach T is red hot. (jhu7276) — My #10. Coach T is on a roll (7 straight victories) with defeat of a good Towson team. #4 RPI this week. (laxfan1313) — #9, +1. With Towson in town, PSU hung on for a 10-8 win. Five goals from Canadian freshman TJ Sanders led the way for the Lions. Undefeated in CAA play, PSU travels to UDel. (Lax Fidelis) — 10. Beat an improving Towson team. (OCanada) — RR#9. (randyrad) — #9-Beat a feisty Towson, one of the hottest teams around. (Strannywastheman) — 9-3 and a sleeper running to the Final Four. (Tecumseh) — #7. (VTD)

Albany: Boy, if they could just play a LITTLE defense. (Baldo) — #7. (Cooter) — #12. (dek) — Scoobies beating up on the "cupcakes" right now ... what say you fattylax?? (jhu7276) — My #14. Another offensive show this week, 21-11 over Vermont. #11 RPI this week. (laxfan1313) — #11, +5. Great Danes scoring juggernaut rang up 21 more goals at Vermont, winning by 10. UMBC will be in town for a battle over first-place in the AE, winner likely will host tournament. (Lax Fidelis) — 9. Beat Vermont and Hartford by wide margins. Defense is suspect, but the offense can score a ton. (OCanada) — RR#11. (randyrad) — #14-Beat Vermont. Who doesn't? (Strannywastheman) — Need to beat UMBC. A very fun team to watch. (Tecumseh) — #10. (VTD)

Johns Hopkins: Jays won a critical contest with the Terps to keep their playoff hopes on life support. (Baldo) — #9. (Cooter) — #13. (dek) — Rising with big win over Testudo ... Navy next ... Jays need to run the table, which SHOULD get them into the playoffs ... they control their own destiny right now. (jhu7276) — My #9. Take-down of the Terps was the THUD of the week (for Maryland). More work to be done this week (#16 RPI now) to enter the bubble. (laxfan1313) — #13, +6. Needing a win to retain any hope of making the NCAAs, JHU headed to Maryland. Early goal by Ranagan put the Jays in front, and they were never caught in a 7-4 brilliant defensive display, aided by the dismal Terp offense. 7-4 Jays host 3-9 Navy at Homewood on Saturday. (Lax Fidelis) — #12. Defense stands tall in take-down of top-ranked Terps. (maddog9718) — 11. Beat #1 Maryland at Maryland to keep playoff hopes alive. Some wondered if the coaches were quitting on the players, some whether the players were quitting on the coaches. The answer: neither is true. (OCanada) — RR#12. (randyrad) — #11-Took care of the Terps decisively. Staying alive. (Strannywastheman) — Statement win over Maryland. A very poorly coached Navy team is poised to upset them like last year. (Tecumseh) — #11. (VTD)

Ohio State: Bucks defeated arch-rival Michigan at the Big House. (Baldo) — #16. (Cooter) — #11. (dek) — Beat Michigan (just like they do in football). (jhu7276) — My #17. Beat Michigan by 9. #14 RPI this week. (laxfan1313) — #15, -1. Buckeyes rang up 17 goals during their visit to Ann Arbor, surrendering only 8 to Michigan. Travel to Air Force. (Lax Fidelis) — 12.Beat Michigan. Not a real test for them. (OCanada) — RR#13. (randyrad) — #17-Big Blue isn't in lacrosse. (Strannywastheman) — This team continues to get better. (Tecumseh) — #12. (VTD)

Princeton: Double THUD of the week, blowing a lead late and losing to lowly Dartmouth, making quite the mess of the Tigers' Ivy playoff hopes. (Baldo) — #15. (Cooter) — #10. (dek) — Ouch ... upset by Dartmouth hurts. (jhu7276) — My #11. Beat #38 Rutgers 13-8 but then upset by Dartmouth. This is a bad sign for the Tigers, who had been putting together a good resume. #4 SOS but #19 RPI puts them on the bubble for an at-large bid. (laxfan1313) — #12, -4. Tigers won at Rutgers, 13-8, aided by 5-0 2nd half surge. Trip to Dartmouth gave the Tigers a case of indigestion as they lost 10-9; loss puts Tigers' post-season plans at risk. Harvard will be in town on Friday evening; the Crimson just knocked off Penn and are playing some exciting lac. (Lax Fidelis) — #14. Upset by Dartmouth. (maddog9718) — 13. Beat Rutgers only to lost to Dartmouth???? Wow. Maybe they are also wearing down a little. (OCanada) — RR#16. (randyrad) — #10-Beat Rutgers. Dartmouth then beat the Tigers in one of the bigger upsets this year. Ivy parity - anything can happen. (Strannywastheman) — Dreadful loss to Dartmouth. (Tecumseh) — #16. (VTD)

Lehigh: May have earned the Patriot #1 seed with a win over Bucknell. (Baldo) — #17. (Cooter) — #18. (dek) — On a 4-game streak. (jhu7276) — My #13. Defeated a solid Bucknell team 11-7. #17 RPI this week. (laxfan1313) — #10, +5. Solid 11-8 win for the Hawks at Bucknell. The win clinched home field for Lehigh for the Patriot League playoffs. It was Lehigh's first win in Lewisburg since 1998. Finish PL play by hosting nearby arch-rival Lafayette. (Lax Fidelis) — #15. Nice win over Bucknell. (maddog9718) — 16. Beat Bucknell. (OCanada) — RR#7. (randyrad) — #15-Big win over Bison sets stage for Patriot tournament. (Strannywastheman) — Coach C has his team flying. (Tecumseh) — #14. (VTD)

Yale: Look out for Hahvad ... and congrats on winning the NCAA college hockey championship. (Baldo) — #12. (Cooter) — #14. (dek) — On a 4-game win streak ... 7-4. (jhu7276) — My #12. Came from behind to defeat Brown. #12 RPI this week. (laxfan1313) — #19, +1. Brown led 8-7 midway through Q4 at Yale on Friday night. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs got their offense cooking and scored the final 4 goals for an 11-8 win. Yale hosts Stony Brook on Monday then travels to Maryland for important Saturday game. (Lax Fidelis) — 15. Beat Brown. (OCanada) — RR#18. (randyrad) — #12-Rallied to defeat Brown in 4th quarter. Yale seems to play up/down to their competition. (Strannywastheman) — Good win over Brown! (Tecumseh) — #13. (VTD)

Bucknell: Lost #1 seed in Patriot tournament to Lehigh at HOME, no less. (Baldo) — #13. (Cooter) — #15. (dek) — Loss to Mt. Hawks in instate rivalry game. (jhu7276) — My #16. 10 victories but lost to Lehigh this week. #13 RPI this week. (laxfan1313) — #17, -4. The Bison entertained Lehigh Friday night but lost to the visitors 11-8. Lehigh's GK Poillon scored against the BU 10-man ride. BU concludes Patriot regular season play at Colgate in a CBSSN broadcast game. (Lax Fidelis) — 17. Lost to Lehigh. (OCanada) — RR#14. (randyrad) — #16-Lehigh in control most of the game. Cornell my have been high water mark this year. (Strannywastheman) — Stopped in their tracks by Lehigh. (Tecumseh) — #15. (VTD)

Penn: THUD of the week. Ivy playoff requires help from others not in the Quakers' hands any longer. (Baldo) — #14. (Cooter) — #16. (dek) — My #19. OT loss to Harvard puts the Quakers in trouble despite #1 SOS and #9 RPI. (laxfan1313) — #16, -5. Quakers' Ivy hopes were severely damaged at Harvard when they lost 8-7 in OT. Penn hosts Dartmouth, which just knocked off the Princeton Tigers. (Lax Fidelis) — #16. Upset by Harvard. (maddog9718) — 20. Lost to Harvard. Harvard has more talent than they are given credit for. (OCanada) — RR#17. (randyrad) — #13-Quakes could not get by Harvard. Not winning the close ones. (Strannywastheman) — What is happening in Philly? Up down and all around! (Tecumseh) — #18. (VTD)

Drexel: Critical league road win likely gets them into the Colonial tourney. (Baldo) — #18. (Cooter) — #17. (dek) — Beat UMass. (jhu7276) — My #15. Beat Massachusetts 15-14 for their 9th victory. #15 RPI this week. (laxfan1313) — #18. In a wild shootout in Amherst, the Dragons prevailed 15-14 over UMass. The Minutemen lost despite 19 pts. from their attack unit. Towson will visit West Philly on Saturday. (Lax Fidelis) — 14. Beat UMass to recover from PSU loss. (OCanada) — RR#15. (randyrad) — #19-Got by UMass in OT. (Strannywastheman) — A must-win is needed over Towson. (Tecumseh) — #17. (VTD)

St. John's: #20. (dek) — Two bad losses in a row. (jhu7276) — My #20. Lost to Villanova this week. #18 SOS and #18 RPI this week. (laxfan1313) — #14, -2. Villanova came to Queens and went home with a 13-11 victory as they continue to resurrect their 2013 season. The Red Storm head to Providence next. (Lax Fidelis) — 18. Lost to GT and Nova. Losses take a lot of luster of the first part of the year. I think they lack enough depth and are wearing down. (OCanada) — RR#20. (randyrad) — #18-Johnnies got beat by a Nova that is playing stronger as the season unfolds. (Strannywastheman) — #21. (VTD)

Hofstra: #20. (Cooter) — #19. (dek) — #21. (laxfan1313) — #20, -3. UNC dropped by Uniondale and dominated the Dutchmen in a 14-5 stomping. UMass visits this week, still looking for their first league win. (Lax Fidelis) — RR#24. (randyrad) — #24-Squished by Heels. (Strannywastheman) — #25. (VTD)

Villanova: Undefeated in the Big East. (Baldo) — #19. (Cooter) — My #18. Losing record right now (5-6), but undefeated in the Big East (4-0) with victories over Syracuse, Georgetown and St. John's (this week). #3 SOS this week, but losing record and #20 RPI say the Wildcats must win the Big East AQ (unlikely). Notre Dame up next (which will raise RPI). (laxfan1313) — RR#19. (randyrad) — #21-Big win over Johnnies. (Strannywastheman) — #19. (VTD)

Army: #24, +1. Black Knights doubled up Navy 14-7 in Annapolis. Brigade turnout didn't help to turn the tide as Navy is working on their worst season ever. Winning 19 of 23 FOs helped the Army cause. Army visits Holy Cross before the PL tournament at Lehigh; it's a must win for the Hudson High troops. (Lax Fidelis) — 19. Handled Navy by a wide margin. Navy was not executing well. It seems endemic this year. (OCanada) — RR#21. (randyrad) — #20-Too much for Mids this year. (Strannywastheman) — Army dismantled a dreadfully coached Navy team. Coach A brought his team ready to play. (Tecumseh) — #20. (VTD)

Colgate: Over Lafayette. (jhu7276) — #24. (laxfan1313) — #21, +1. Raiders won at Lafayette 14-10. 'Gate hosts Bucknell for seeding position in Patriot tournament. 'Gate, Bucknell and Army can each finish anywhere from #2 to #4 and Holy Cross!! could qualify if they beat visiting Army. (Lax Fidelis) — RR#22. (randyrad)

Virginia: #22. (laxfan1313) — #22-Hoos scored, but not enough in Durham. (Strannywastheman)

Harvard: Cantabs could make some noise in the Ivies. (Baldo) — "The Cause" batting .500 at 6-6. (jhu7276) — #22, NR. I've wanted to add the Crimson for a couple of weeks based on their dramatic losses to both Duke and Cornell. Now that they have crept up to 6-6, I will add them. OT win over Penn has them in the hunt for an Ivy playoff spot. But they still have to play both Yale and Princeton. Uh-oh. (Lax Fidelis) — RR#25. (randyrad) — #23-Big win over Quakes. Harvard may sneak in to Ivy tourney. (Strannywastheman) — #23. (VTD)

Marist: Defeat (Stacy) JA. (jhu7276) — #23, +1. Red Foxes (4-0 MAAC) won at Jacksonville (4-1 MAAC), 14-11. Upstate arch-rival Siena (3-1 MAAC) visits on Saturday. Both schools are in the playoffs; neither will host them. (Lax Fidelis)

Towson: RR#23. (randyrad)

Brown: #23. (laxfan1313) — #25-Hung with Yale until the end. (Strannywastheman) — #24. (VTD)

Other Teams Pollsters Considered (and comments, if any)

. Massachusetts:

. Fairfield:

. Bellarmine: #25. (laxfan1313) — #25, -4. Oops. The Hobart Statesmen arrived in Louisville with a 4-6 record but left town with a win over the now 7-4 Knights, 9-8 in two OTs. Bellarmine's visit to Virginia would eliminate the 5-7 Wahoos from any NCAA consideration if the Knights win. (Lax Fidelis) — #22. (VTD)
