Pollsters' Comments About Teams They Ranked

North Carolina: #1 at last. High octane offense but would like to see their defense hold somebody below double digits. (Baldo) — #1. ACC champs. (Cooter) — #2. (dek) — ACC tourney champs got scare from Devils but will be a high seed in the NCAA tourney. (jhu7276) — My #1. Winning the ACC Title merits #1 ranking. However, if defense wins championships, giving up 30 goals in two games is not a good sign. (laxfan1313) — #1, +1. Tar Heels edged Duke 18-17 at home in the ACC semis. Despite blowing a 15-6 lead, they rallied for the last 2 goals to win. Virginia hung in there against the high-scoring Heels in the ACC final but finally lost 16-12. 34 goals scored, 29 surrendered. Is UNC a title threat with those stats? (Lax Fidelis) — #1. Big weekend for the Heels; first ACC title since '96. (maddog9718) — 2. I would make them #1, but their defense can be porous at times. (OCanada) — RR#1. (randyrad) — #1-Nearly blew a 9-goal lead on Duke. Too much horsepower for Virginia. Best resume, top team around - for now. (Strannywastheman) — ACC champs and #1 with a bullet. (Tecumseh) — #1. (VTD)

Cornell: Red are the class of the Ivies and Pannell is operating on another level just at the right time. (Baldo) — #2. Only 2-loss team remaining. (Cooter) — #1. (dek) — Smoked Princeton ... can they double them up this week? (jhu7276) — My #2. #1 on KRACH and the Computer Rating and #4 RPI and QW ranking translates to #2 this week. It's Groundhog Day in Ithaca, as the Big Red plays the Tigers on Friday for the 2nd time in a week. Impressive beat-down of the Tigers last weekend. (laxfan1313) — #2, +2. Big Red and Rob Panell (5 and 4) thrashed Princeton 17-11 at Met-Life Stadium. Cornell gets to play the Tigers again in the opening round of the Ivy playoffs on Friday; this time it's in Ithaca. (Lax Fidelis) — #2. No problem dispatching PU. (maddog9718) — 1. Two one-goal losses on the season. (OCanada) — RR#4. (randyrad) — #2-Lit up the Tigers. 6 on 6 best in the business. (Strannywastheman) — Impressive win over Princeton. Pannell is the difference. (Tecumseh) — #4. (VTD)

Syracuse: Cruisers still playing a very uneven brand of lacrosse and still dodging bullets at every turn. (Baldo) — #4. Big win over Notre Dame. (Cooter) — #3. (dek) — They were lots of questions about this team at season start, but they have all been answered or resolved ... nice coaching job from Coach D as usual. (jhu7276) — My #4. Impressive victory over Notre Dame. #6 RPI and #2 in QWs this week. The Orange look like a Final Four team. (laxfan1313) — #6, +2. Dominant (9 to 1) 2nd half carried the Orange past Notre Dame at Met-Life. The two teams get to replay the pairing in the Big East semis at Villanova on Thursday. (Lax Fidelis) — #6. Impressive 4Q and win over the Irish. (maddog9718) — 3. I almost started them in the top 5 but backed off to the top 8. They have great balance. (OCanada) — RR#3. (randyrad) — #3-Working into Memorial Day form at the expense of the Irish. (Strannywastheman) — Dismantled the Irish on the national stage. (Tecumseh) — #2. (VTD)

Denver: ECACs will be tough, but Bill Tierney-coached teams know how to win big games in the post-season in OT. (Baldo) — #5. (Cooter) — #6. (dek) — Over Michigan easy. (jhu7276) — My #5. Beat Michigan last weekend. #2 RPI keeps the Pioneers in contention for a home playoff game. (laxfan1313) — #3, +2. The Pioneers cruised past visiting Michigan 12-4. The Pioneers open the ECAC tournament in Geneva, NY against Fairfield which beat them in Denver just two weekends ago. (Lax Fidelis) — 4. I cannot shake the Fairfield loss and so keep them a little lower than some others. (OCanada) — RR#6. (randyrad) — #6-Rolled Michigan. (Strannywastheman) — Look like the team to beat in the ECAC. (Tecumseh) — #3. (VTD)

Notre Dame: Are the Domers picking the wrong time to need a tune-up? (Baldo) — #8. Snap. (Cooter) — #5. (dek) — Lose to Cuse, but that doesn't drop them much ... get a rematch soon. (jhu7276) — My #6. #1 RPI keeps the Fighting Irish in line for a high NCAA seed despite convincing loss to Syracuse. (laxfan1313) — #4, -3. The Irish got squashed in the 2nd half by Syracuse, losing 10-4 at Met-Life after leading 3-1 at the half. The two schools will meet again on Thursday in the Big East tourney at Villanova. (Lax Fidelis) — #7. Tripped up by SU. Has this team plateaued? (maddog9718) — 5. Some good ones and some losses I never expected. (OCanada) — RR#5. (randyrad) — #5-Cuse just too much for the Irish. Offense needs to wake up. (Strannywastheman) — Thud in the Meadowlands. (Tecumseh) — #5. (VTD)

Duke: Now that the Dukies have risen from the dead, they will be a big time threat in the NCAAs. (Baldo) — #9. (Cooter) — #4. (dek) — Dangerous team ... did get a few breaks vs. UNC on the Wolf dives, but this team can score. (jhu7276) — My #9. Can a team with a great offense but a porous defense make a playoff statement? #11 RPI says they'll receive an at-large bid but play on the road. (laxfan1313) — #7, -1. In the ACC tournament at UNC, the Blue Devils dug themselves into a 15-6 hole but rallied to lead 17-16. Dominance at the FO "x" was a major factor in their rally but they couldn't hold the lead and lost 18-17. They finish their regular season at Marquette. (Lax Fidelis) — #3. Furious comeback against the Heels fell short; incredible effort from Fowler. (maddog9718) — 7. Their defense is not in the top tier, and they will have to outscore opponents with better defenses. (OCanada) — RR#7. (randyrad) — #8-Almost pulled off one of the all time great comebacks against Heels from 9 down. Not dead yet. (Strannywastheman) — Can anyone play defense for Dino? (Tecumseh) — #8. (VTD)

Loyola: Hounds appear to be peaking at just the right time - finally get a win from Hopkins. (Baldo) — #6. Big win over Hopkins. (Cooter) — #7. (dek) — May have "pinned" the Blue Jays "tails" making them look like "donkeys" in their 8-4 win at Homewood. (jhu7276) — My #3. Take-down of the Blue Jays earns the #3 ranking. However, #9 RPI means seeding will be lower. (laxfan1313) — #5, +2. Greyhounds broke a 13-game losing streak to Hopkins, dominating the second half at Homewood en route to an 8-4 win. They open ECAC play against Ohio State, a team they easily beat 9-4 in Columbus just a few weeks ago. (Lax Fidelis) — #5. Had their revenge against the Jays. (maddog9718) — 8. A great win for the program at Hopkins. They looked much better than in a few recent games. (OCanada) — RR#9. (randyrad) — #7-All over a lifeless Hop. Big win for Hounds. (Strannywastheman) — Classic win over the Blue Jays. (Tecumseh) — #9. (VTD)

Maryland: They may be using the same well as the Hoos did. Free-falling right now. (Baldo) — #7. Snap. (Cooter) — #10. (dek) — One game left vs. the Gate. (jhu7276) — My #7. What has happened to the Terps? The early season favorite is fading fast. Loss to Virginia has exposed the Terps at both ends of the field except for their great goalie. (laxfan1313) — #9, -6. The Terps were undressed and embarrassed by Virginia in the ACC tourney at Chapel Hill. UMd has regressed dramatically in the last several weeks; they finish against Colgate at home. (Lax Fidelis) — #9. Came out flat against the Hoos, but not writing this team off yet; they limped in the playoffs last two years but still made it to the title game. (maddog9718) — 10. Their offense never was that creative, and I thought expectations of some players were too high, but I did not expect a failure to execute a good game plan a weakness until lately. (OCanada) — RR#2. (randyrad) — #4-Lifeless against Hoos. Running on empty? (Strannywastheman) — Ouch. On a slide south in the last few weeks with its once mighty offense. (Tecumseh) — #6. (VTD)

Penn State: Icing on the cake to win the Colonial tournament and keep their winning streak intact. (Baldo) — #3. On a 9-game winning streak. (Cooter) — #8. (dek) — Blow away Hofstra. (jhu7276) — My #8. Coach T has the Nittany Lions in the NC mix this year. Impressive #5 RPI means there may be a playoff game in State College. (laxfan1313) — #8, +1. The Nittany Lions dominated at Hofstra, winning 16-7. PSU will host the CAA tourney which opens on Wednesday, the Lions will take on 7-7 UMass, which is playing much better late in the season. (Lax Fidelis) — #8. No problem with Hofstra. (maddog9718) — 6. They have a 9-game winning streak going after 3 straight losses. (OCanada) — RR#10. (randyrad) — #9-Handled Hofstra. (Strannywastheman) — Coach T has 'em rocking. (Tecumseh) — #7. (VTD)

Lehigh: Demolished a very good Bucknell team in the Patriot finals. Hot goalie. Scary opponent in the NCAAs. (Baldo) — #10. (Cooter) — #13. (dek) — Downed Colgate and Bucknell. (jhu7276) — My #10. Patriot League champs receive the AQ but their #14 RPI says they'll play in the NCAA tourney on the road. (laxfan1313) — #11. Mountain Hawks ran away from Colgate in a 15-7 laugher in a Patriot League semifinal at Lehigh. A 7-2 lead after the 1st half over Bucknell in the PL final set the stage for a reasonably comfortable 11-5 victory. (Lax Fidelis) — #11. Convincing win over Bucknell. (maddog9718) — 14. Won their conference. Lehigh is the picture of a clue collar team. (OCanada) — RR#8. (randyrad) — #11-Gate not much of a problem. Blew out Bison. (Strannywastheman) — Coach Cassese has it all going on. (Tecumseh) — #12. (VTD)

Ohio State: Tough row to hoe in ECACs. (Baldo) — #14. (Cooter) — #11. (dek) — Four-game win streak. (jhu7276) — My #11. The Buckeyes dominated a good Fairfield team last weekend. #10 RPI puts them in the mix for an at-large bid. (laxfan1313) — #13, +2. Buckeyes got past visiting Fairfield, 14-8. They meet Loyola in the opening round of the ECAC tourney at Villanova. OSU will need to ramp up their play to defeat the 'Hounds, who handled them easily not too long ago. (Lax Fidelis) — #10. Beat a good Fairfield team. (maddog9718) — 11. They have only lost to teams ranked above them. (OCanada) — RR#12. (randyrad) — #16-Took care of Fairfield easily. Great record, but early March Penn St. victory remains best win. (Strannywastheman) — Buckeyes just keep winning. Impressive. (Tecumseh) — #10. (VTD)

Albany: Man, if they could play defense they would be a favorite to win it all. (Baldo) — #12. (Cooter) — #9. (dek) — All over Stony Brook. (jhu7276) — My #12. Another great offensive performance with 21 goals against Stony Brook. #16 RPI puts them on the bubble for an at-large bid. Looks like they need the America East AQ and are favored over UMBC, Hartford and Stony Brook. (laxfan1313) — #10. In an Upstate battle, Siena knocked off the Danes (playing without two Thompsons) 10-9. With the full family at Stony Brook, the Danes romped 21-11. Myles racked up 14 points (5,9) in that one (3rd highest total in NCAA records). UA opens AE playoffs by again playing SBU at SBU on Thursday. (Lax Fidelis) — #14. Not a good result against Siena. (maddog9718) — 9. They can score. Their defense is suspect. (OCanada) — RR#11. (randyrad) — #14-Ugly loss to Siena, nearly doubled up SBU. (Strannywastheman) — Can you say firepower, yes! (Tecumseh) — #16. (VTD)

Yale: Escaped in Cambridge but will be a tough out in the post-season. (Baldo) — #11. (Cooter) — #14. (dek) — Beat the Cause. (jhu7276) — My #13. Number 2 seed in the Ivies. If Cornell wins the Ivy AQ, the Bulldogs' #13 RPI puts them on the bubble for an at-large bid. (laxfan1313) — #19. Bulldogs played at Harvard and edged past their hosts 11-10 to deny the Crimson a berth in the Ivy playoffs. It will be the Elis against the Quakers to determine who plays the winner of the Princeton-Cornell contest. (Lax Fidelis) — 15. I like this team. Maybe because my daughter started four years there. (OCanada) — RR#13. (randyrad) — #13-Beat Harvard in a sloppy game. Need a win against Penn in Ivy in order to dance. (Strannywastheman) — Key win over Harvard now need to beat Penn. (Tecumseh) — #11. (VTD)

Princeton: THUD of the week. Totally dominated by Cornell. (Baldo) — #13. (Cooter) — #12. (dek) — Went down hard vs. the Big Red. (jhu7276) — My #14. Number 4 seed in the Ivies. The Tigers need the Ivy AQ to get in the tourney. (laxfan1313) — #14, -2. Tigers were thoroughly "Panell-ized" at Met-Life. RP3 rang up 9 points as Big Red won 17-11. Thanks to Yale beating Harvard, Princeton won the booby-prize of having to play Cornell again on Friday. (Lax Fidelis) — #15. Outmatched by Cornell but will have chance for revenge this week. (maddog9718) — 12. Another team that could make a run of their defense could only play better. (OCanada) — RR#17. (randyrad) — #10-Big Red had their way with the Tigers. (Strannywastheman) — Tigers have the dreaded rematch with the Big Red. (Tecumseh) — #17. (VTD)

Bucknell: Bad day in Bethlehem but should have a good enough resume for the big party anyway. (Baldo) — #17. (Cooter) — #17. (dek) — Just fell short in Pat League. (jhu7276) — My #18. Although they lost to Lehigh in the Patriot League tourney, their #8 RPI says they should receive an at-large bid. (laxfan1313) — #16. Final score of 12-9 over Army in the PL semis was misleading; the Bison controlled the entire game. The roles were reversed in the PL final against Lehigh. Bucknell fell behind and never really threatened to get back into the game. Changing GK in the 1st half is never good. NCAAs? Perhaps. (Lax Fidelis) — 18. Leaving Bucknell where they were more or less. I did not expect them to win last weekend. (OCanada) — RR#14. (randyrad) — #12-Cadets challenged, Bison held on. Dominated by Lehigh. (Strannywastheman) — Have had a great season and hope they get in the NCAAs. (Tecumseh) — #14. (VTD)

Penn: All the ducks were in a row and the Quakes have a shot in the Ivy tournament. (Baldo) — #16. (Cooter) — #15. (dek) — My #16. Number 3 Ivy tourney seed. #2 SOS and #12 RPI make the Quakers, perhaps, the only possible Ivy at-large team besides Cornell. They'll have to beat Yale on Friday to preserve that possibility. (laxfan1313) — #16, +1. Quakers doubled up visiting Bellarmine, 10-5. Thanks to Yale's edging Harvard, the Penn kids made the Ivy playoffs and avoided having to play Cornell in the semis - they drew Yale instead. (Lax Fidelis) — 16. Big game versus Yale on May 3. (OCanada) — RR#16. (randyrad) — #15-Beat Bellarmine. (Strannywastheman) — Key game of the year coming with the Bulldogs. (Tecumseh) — #15. (VTD)

Drexel: Have to win the Colonial to get a ticket to the big dance. (Baldo) — #18. (Cooter) — #16. (dek) — Three-game win streak. (jhu7276) — My #17. The 11-3 Dragons may have to win the Colonial AQ to get in the tourney with their #15 RPI. (laxfan1313) — #12, +2. The 11-3 Dragons took care of visiting High Point, 14-8. They open the CAA tourney against Towson in State College on Wednesday. (Lax Fidelis) — 17. Not many top wins, but they did beat Albany and Nova. (OCanada) — RR#15. (randyrad) — #19-Beat High Point. (Strannywastheman) — Next up is an angry bunch from Towson. (Tecumseh) — #13. (VTD)

Johns Hopkins: Fat lady is just about to sing for the Jays, BUT if no surprises in any of the remaining conference tournaments they could sneak in as a 16 seed. (Baldo) — #15. (Cooter) — #19. (dek) — What can be said? F-105 THUD of the decades ... lack of offensive consistency is what did this team in this year ... from the ridiculous to the sublime ... second half vs. Hounds was an unforced fest of failure to fulfill a destiny which is no longer manifest ... "THE PARTY'S OVER." (jhu7276) — My #15. 8-5 record makes the Blue Jays technically tourney eligible, but #17 RPI puts them bubble out. A victory over #21 Army this week doesn't seem to help tourney prospects. (laxfan1313) — #15, -2. Two more streaks ended: Loyola broke a 13-game losing streak to JHU, Petro's first loss on Homecoming as head coach. Incredibly inept 2nd half offense costs Jays in 8-4 loss, with a 29-minute scoreless streak to end the game. 41-year NCAA streak apparently finished. Finish at Army on Friday evening. (Lax Fidelis) — #16. Didn't get the offense needed to take down a talented Hound squad. (maddog9718) — 13. An fitting end to a team that has been over-hyped by its fans. The team has not under-performed, because they have not got the talent to win big games consistently, and Loyola showed why. (OCanada) — RR#18. (randyrad) — #18-One of the uglier performances by Hopkins in years. If rec league players had the throwing and catching issues Hop did, they'd be running laps. (Strannywastheman) — Beaten down hard by the cross-town Greyhounds. (Tecumseh) — #18. (VTD)

St. John's: My #19. On the outside looking in this year. (laxfan1313) — #17, +1. Marquette came to Queens with a three-game winning streak that was snapped by the Red Storm 15-10. Georgetown was able to claim the last playoff slot in the Big East tourney so SJU's season is complete. (Lax Fidelis) — RR#19. (randyrad) — #17-Beat Marquette. (Strannywastheman) — #24. (VTD)

Villanova: Playing the BE tourney at home as the #1 seed. Don't sleep on these guys. The Jays' biggest nightmare. (Baldo) — #19. (Cooter) — #18. (dek) — Beat Providence. (jhu7276) — #21. (laxfan1313) — #22, N.R. Although below .500 at 6-7, VU is a very tough out for any foe. After a 19-11 win over visiting Providence, the top-seeded Wildcats will host Georgetown in the semis of the Big East tournament. (Lax Fidelis) — 19. I believe SOS matters rather than building a record against weak teams. (OCanada) — RR#22. (randyrad) — #21-Beat Prov. May be 6-7, but #1 SOS and they were in every game they played. (Strannywastheman) — The top seed in the Big East. (Tecumseh) — #20. (VTD)

Virginia: Valiant effort in the ACCs ... wait til' next year. (Baldo) — #20. (Cooter) — #20. (dek) — Gave UNC a fight at least ... a forgettable year for a usually top five program. (jhu7276) — #22. (laxfan1313) — #23, +2. Wahoos kept their faint NCAA hopes alive with a 13-6 thrashing of Maryland in an ACC semifinal, solid effort all-around for the Cavs but they never led UNC in the final but they refused to die easily in a 16-13 loss. Season completed. (Lax Fidelis) — 20. Played their best lacrosse at the end of the season. Too late, but I do not know anyone better below them. (OCanada) — #20-Handled the Terps, battled Heels, but could not keep up. (Strannywastheman) — Hanging on by a thread. (Tecumseh) — #22. (VTD)

Fairfield: My #20. Their only ticket to the dance would be the ECAC AQ. Denver, Loyola, and Ohio State stand in the way. (laxfan1313) — #20. Fairfield lost 14-8 at Ohio State. The Stags still claimed an ECAC playoff berth; they will meet Denver. Can they pull off another upset? They beat Denver, in Denver, just 9 days ago. (Lax Fidelis) — RR#20. (randyrad) — #24-Lost to Ohio State. Denver again on Thurs. (Strannywastheman) — Can surprise in the ECACs. A very impressive coaching job by Copeland this season. (Tecumseh) — #21. (VTD)

Army: #25. (laxfan1313) — RR#21. (randyrad) — #22-Bucknell had upper hand most of game. (Strannywastheman) — A win over Hopkins might create a mutiny at Homewood. (Tecumseh) — #23. (VTD)

Hofstra: #24. (laxfan1313)

Marist: Ouch ... lost to Manhattan. (jhu7276) — #24, -2. The 10-3 Red Foxes had little trouble at St. Joe's, romping past the Hawks, 14-6. However, at Manhattan on Saturday, Marist stumbled and lost 14-12. They open their league tourney against Detroit at host school Canisius. (Lax Fidelis) — #19. (VTD)

Massachusetts: #23. (laxfan1313) — #21, N.R. The 7-7 Gorillas re-appear after winning their last two CAA games to sneak into the playoffs. They will play tourney host Penn State on Wednesday. (Lax Fidelis) — RR#25. (randyrad) — #23-Pounded Delaware, but rematch with Penn St. could extend season. Capable of doing it. (Strannywastheman)

Other Teams Pollsters Considered (and comments, if any)

. Colgate: RR#23. (randyrad)

. Towson: #25. N.R. After starting 3-5, the Tigers rallied to go 5-2 in their last seven contests and earned a CAA playoff berth. They will play Drexel in State College on Wednesday evening. (Lax Fidelis) — RR#24. (randyrad)

. Brown: #25-Won 3OT thriller against Dartmouth. (Strannywastheman)

. Harvard:

. Bellarmine: #25. (VTD)
