Pollsters' Comments About Teams They Ranked

North Carolina: Hottest team around right now ... BUT the clock gets reset to ZERO for the NCAAs. The committee actually thought so, too. (Baldo) — #1. Maddog9728, I ranked your Tar Heels #1 in the final poll. I assume you won't bother me for the next month. (Cooter) — #1. (dek) — ACC champs ... it's all there for the taking ... this is the year for them in the "second season" to shine ... or not. I still have them number 1. (jhu7276) — My #2. ACC champs have great offensive firepower. They may give up too many goals to win the NC. (laxfan1313) — #1. Undisputed #1 now (at least in my book). Numbers 2-5 in my last poll all lost in the last week. Tournament committee seeded them #5. Huh? Lehigh will visit Chapel Hill. Post-tournament I will attach my final grades, rankings and comments for my Top 20. (Lax Fidelis) — #1. Time for the Heels to validate their season. (maddog9718) — 2. I think their defense is suspect, but the offense can score with anyone. (OCanada) — RR#2. (randyrad) — #1-DNP but finished strong. If clicking, can play the best lax anywhere. But can they win big games in May? Heels got shafted by the Committee. Lehigh is good but can't keep up with the waterbugs. (Strannywastheman) — Still #1 and facing an angry Lehigh. (Tecumseh) — #1. (VTD)

Syracuse: Cruisers are locked and loaded for the Big Dance. #1 seed by the committee, too. (Baldo) — #2. Two consecutive 6-goal wins over Notre Dame and the Big East Crown. (Cooter) — #2. (dek) — Four straight Big East wins and I have them up at number 2 ... great year for the Orange. (jhu7276) — My #1. The Orange are the clear #1 going into the tourney. Consecutive 6-goal take-downs of the Fighting Irish away from the Dome were impressive. (laxfan1313) — #2, +4. Another throttling of the Irish followed by a tough 13-9 win over host Villanova garners SU their last Big East playoff title. #1 seed for the tournament, they should cruise past Bryant. (Lax Fidelis) — #2. Two convincing wins over ND. (maddog9718) — 1. A narrow choice over UNC based on better balance on both ends of the field. I almost started them at #5 this year and outsmarted myself and put them #7, I think. (OCanada) — RR#1. (randyrad) — #2-And whoever makes them #1 gets no argument. Playing great, late. Seem to be a lock for Philly. Won't sleep on Bryant, Desko knows Pressler will have them ready. Bryant fogo is legit. (Strannywastheman) — Need to watch the Bryant FOGO and remember the Hobart loss. (Tecumseh) — #2. (VTD)

Ohio State: The Bucks are prepared to keep ruining the celebrations of others. Peaking at just the right time. (Baldo) — #3. Beat Loyola and Denver to win the ECAC. (Cooter) — #5. (dek) — Six wins in a row and for real ... may surprise in the playoffs. (jhu7276) — My #3. Defeating Denver and Loyola last weekend earn a #3 ranking. The Buckeyes are peaking at the right time. (laxfan1313) — #5, +8. Big weekend for the Buckeyes, which slam-dunked Loyola 18-11 in a Big East semifinal and then edged Denver 11-10 with a last-minute goal to win the ECAC crown. Towson will visit Columbus for the NCAAs. (Lax Fidelis) — #3. Hot finish to the regular season for tOSU. (maddog9718) — 3. I am impressed with the way they ended the year. Development has been crucial this year for many teams. From my 12 or so last week to #3 based on the last few weeks. (OCanada) — RR#5. (randyrad) — #7-Wow. Huge weekend in Geneva, dumped the Hounds, then beat the Pios. Elbowed their way into the top 10. Have doubted Bucks all year; they proved me wrong. A 3-seed was a nice gift from the Committee but not deserved. (Strannywastheman) — Love the Buckeyes and am thrilled for the return of Coach Gilardi and his Tigers to Towson to High Street. (Tecumseh) — #6. (VTD)

Notre Dame: Losing 2x to the Orange won't matter when the music starts for the Big Dance. (Baldo) — #10. Seem to be falling flat. Two 6-goal losses to Syracuse in a row. Nice group of early season wins: Denver, UNC, OSU, Duke, and PSU. (Cooter) — #4. (dek) — Whipped x2 by the Cuse ... gotta drop. (jhu7276) — My #5. Despite the committee's decision, the offense-challenged Fighting Irish are not the 2nd best team going into the tourney. (laxfan1313) — #11, -7. Another dismal offensive performance by the Irish in a 9-3 loss to Syracuse, even worse than last week's loss to the Orange. Inexplicably, they were given a #2 seed and will host the woeful Detroit squad. (Lax Fidelis) — #9. Doesn't look so great all of the sudden. (maddog9718) — 9. Lost twice in a week to Syracuse. Offense needs more weapons, but the defense keeps them in games with a chance. (OCanada) — RR#4. (randyrad) — #3-Lost to Cuse in BE semi but have a smoother road to Philly than most. (Strannywastheman) — Detroit Mercy coming has the MAAC champs from the Motor City. But serious shout-out to the Titans team and staff for a trip to South Bend. (Tecumseh) — #4. (VTD)

Maryland: Have the Terps escaped from their lengthy offensive slumber party? (Baldo) — #4. Bad loss to UVa in the ACC tournament but rebounded with a nice win over Colgate. (Cooter) — #12. (dek) — Ended season with win over Colgate. (jhu7276) — My #7. Beating up on Colgate 18-6 may have made the Terps feel confident, but the Big Red beat them, 19-3. The Cornell-Maryland game matches the #1 and #2 LaxPower computer-rated teams. It should be a barn-burner. (laxfan1313) — #7, +2. Terrapins returned to the field after their ACC semifinal loss to Virginia with a convincing romp over visiting Colgate 18-6. Cornell visits in opening round, a win by UMd would give them another home game in the quarters. (Lax Fidelis) — #7. Box score looks like one from the Terps of two months ago; marquee match-up w/ Cornell on deck. (maddog9718) — 5. Looked bad losing to UVa and then came back strong. A shaky #5 really based on their last game's offense. (OCanada) — RR#3. (randyrad) — #4-Pounded Gate but stumbled down the stretch. Cornell at home should be a great game. Terp D should do well on RP and Mock. (Strannywastheman) — The battle royale with the Big Red. (Tecumseh) — #3. (VTD)

Denver: THUD of the week losing to the Buckeyes in the league final. Hey, isn't the ball lighter a mile up? And you are playing Albany ... is 35 total goals too little in your opener? (Baldo) — #6. Nice group of wins: Duke, Lehigh, Loyola, and OSU on the season. (Cooter) — #6. (dek) — Shucks ... only 4 losses. (jhu7276) — My #4. Squeaked by Fairfield again before losing to OSU. (laxfan1313) — #6, -3. Pioneers got past a tough nut in Fairfield in an ECAC semifinal but failed to get past Ohio State, which beat them 11-10 in the final on a goal at the 0:24 mark. High-flying Albany will visit Denver in the NCAA opening round. (Lax Fidelis) — 7. Lost to Fairfield a bit ago and then lost to OSU. I think somewhere in the 5-8 range is about right. (OCanada) — RR#6. (randyrad) — #8-Looked good against OSU but not enough. Another bit of home cookin' from the NCAA with Towson next. (Strannywastheman) — A huge shootout coming in the Mile High City. What a game. (Tecumseh) — #5. (VTD)

Cornell: Losing in the first round of your league playoffs at HOME is no way to start. (Baldo) — #5. Tough loss to Princeton in the Ivy tournament. (Cooter) — #9. (dek) — Upset by P-ton in Ivy Tourney. (jhu7276) — My #8. The Big Red was three 1-goal losses from being undefeated. If they bring their A game to College Park, they could play two games there. (laxfan1313) — #4, -2. Shocking OT loss at home in an Ivy semifinal to Princeton which they beat by 6 goals six days earlier. Three 1-goal losses in 2013 but a shaky goal-keeper. Big Red travels to College Park to play the Terrapins. (Lax Fidelis) — 8. Lost to Princeton in the rematch of the previous week's game. They looked so good in the first game. (OCanada) — RR#10. (randyrad) — #6-Couldn't get it done in the shootout at home. Terps are a tough draw; Red will have its hands full. Should have won a game or two at home. (Strannywastheman) — Nasty draw headed to Turtle town. Panell needs to be at the top of his game. (Tecumseh) — #8. (VTD)

Duke: Watch out for these guys. (Baldo) — #11. Playing much better, but have 5 losses. (Cooter) — #3. (dek) — Got 'em right near UNC and could get hot in the playoffs. Only question is the defense. (jhu7276) — My #10. The Blue Devils will have their hands full with the defending national champs. (laxfan1313) — #3, +4. Duke finished their regular season at Marquette with a 19-3 rout over the host Golden Eagles. One-goal home win over Loyola in early March - the two schools get to replay the game in the NCAAs, again in Durham. (Lax Fidelis) — #4. Big match-up against Loyola. (maddog9718) — 4. Lost to UNC by one in ACC title game. Another suspect defense coupled with an offense that can score. I am not sold on them at #4, but then they have a better case than anyone else. (OCanada) — RR#9. (randyrad) — #5-DNP. Devils looked good late. Will be a tough out. Hounds better bring the A game to Durham. (Strannywastheman) — Coach T will have his boys ready. I like the Greyhounds in this one, so Dino needs to be ready. (Tecumseh) — #9. (VTD)

Loyola: Squeaked in as the last at-large - is a repeat in order? (Baldo) — #8. Only quality losses. (Cooter) — #7. (dek) — Beat JHU but got smoked by OSU. (jhu7276) — My #6. Close loss 13-11 to my #3 OSU keeps the Greyhounds at my #6. They will give the overrated Blue Devils (#7 seed) a tough time. (laxfan1313) — #8, -3. 11-9 lead late in Q3 for the 'Hounds turned into a stunning rout at the hands of OSU as the Buckeyes ran off 9 goals to end the game. Greyhounds have to visit the site of a 2013 loss, at Duke for their NCAA opener. (Lax Fidelis) — 10. Lost to a surprisingly strong OSU team by a wider margin than I would have expected. (OCanada) — RR#13. (randyrad) — #9-Easily handled by OSU. Not expected. Will have their hands full with Duke. Tough draw. (Strannywastheman) — They are the current national champions and angry! (Tecumseh) — #12. (VTD)

Yale: Dylan Levings gives to Bulldogs offense lots of chances - along with Lehigh the team you might not want to see in a single elimination format. (Baldo) — #9. Ivy League champs. (Cooter) — #8. (dek) — Best year in ages. (jhu7276) — My #9. Yale earned the Ivy AQ and its 7 RPI bested Cornell's 8. I ranked Cornell higher due to its 6-0 Ivy regular season and its defeat of Yale head to head. (laxfan1313) — #12, +7. Edged Penn in an Ivy semifinal in Ithaca. For 2nd straight year, the Bulldogs beat Princeton to earn the Ivy AQ berth. Dylan Levings dominated at FO to key Elis' win. Yale travels to Penn State for NCAA opener. (Lax Fidelis) — #10. Ivy champs; impressive win over PU. (maddog9718) — 11. Ivy champs. If you cannot get the ball, they will score enough to win. (OCanada) — RR#11. (randyrad) — #10-Came back late to put Penn away. Took care of business and de-panted the Tigers for the second year in a row. Great ball movement, balanced scoring. PSU a good team they can beat. (Strannywastheman) — Best FOGO in the land and maybe my pick for COY. (Tecumseh) — #10. (VTD)

Lehigh: Hot goalie, stout defense and an attitude may be just what the doctor ordered. Along with Yale the team you might not want to see in a single elimination format. (Baldo) — #12. (Cooter) — #10. (dek) — Seven straight wins moving into the NCAAs. (jhu7276) — My #13. Great defense will give the Tar Heels a run for their money. (laxfan1313) — #10, +1. Winner of Patriot title took the week off. Start the NCAAs at high-scoring UNC. The game pairs the two schools with the longest current winning streaks. (Lax Fidelis) — 6. Really finished the year out strong. I cannot think of a reason to rank them lower, and there is a case for putting them higher. (OCanada) — RR#7. (randyrad) — #11-DNP. Hawks have played well down the stretch but haven't been challenged in weeks. Heels a tough draw. (Strannywastheman) — Great coaching and great program. Should make some serious noise in Chapel Hill. (Tecumseh) — #11. (VTD)

Penn State: Double THUD of the week. Bucknell and Loyola thank you very much. NOT! (Baldo) — #7. Towson loss is not too pretty. (Cooter) — #13. (dek) — Win streak stopped by Towson!? (jhu7276) — My #11. Surprising loss to Towson may have bumped Bucknell from the tourney. The Nittany Lions are in for a challenge from Yale. (laxfan1313) — #13, -5. Lions took care of UMass in the CAA semis but stumbled in the finals, losing to surging Towson 11-10. Yale will be in town for the NCAA first round. (Lax Fidelis) — 13. Lost to Towson in their tourney. I have a lot of respect for the progress Towson has made but not enough to think this would happen again. (OCanada) — RR#8. (randyrad) — #13-Towson loss tough to figure. Lions don't win 1-goal games. Not good for playoffs. Will have their hands full with Yale. If Kaut comes up big, they could do it. (Strannywastheman) — Trap game, with Yale coming to Happy Valley on a mission. (Tecumseh) — #7. (VTD)

Albany: The Danes will be good for ticket sales wherever they play. Let's hope the defense and goalies at least show up for the tournament. (Baldo) — #14. (Cooter) — #11. (dek) — Moving them up and coming into NCAA tourney hot ... again D wins championships ... can the Scoobies bite down on opposing offenses enough for the Thompsons to light it up? (jhu7276) — My #12. Tough trip to Denver in the offing. Will the Thompsons do their thing mile high? If Denver had trouble with computer rated #30 Fairfield (they did, splitting two games), how will they stop the #1 offense? Intriguing match-up. Does Coach Tierney know any Onondagan curse words? (laxfan1313) — #9,+1. Ho-hum, just a mere 36 goals in two AE playoff wins, 17-15 over the game UMBC Banana Mutts and then another thrashing of host Stony Brook, 19-10. Tough draw in the NCAAs - the Great Danes have to travel to Denver. (Lax Fidelis) — 12. Lost to Siena? And then ran the table. They can score but be inconsistent, which might cost them a chance at Monday. (OCanada) — RR#12. (randyrad) — #15-Beat up UMBC but seeded properly. If Thompsons show up large, could swipe it from Denver. (Strannywastheman) — COY maybe? Going to be a crazy game in Denver. (Tecumseh) — #13. (VTD)

Bucknell: Be sure to thank the Nitttanies for choking in their conference final, which resulted in your being left out of the party. (Baldo) — #13. (Cooter) — #14. (dek) — 12-4. (jhu7276) — My #17. If the tourney had 17 teams, Bucknell would have been in. Loss to Lehigh sealed their fate. (laxfan1313) — #19, -1. No game. (Lax Fidelis) — 15. Lost to Lehigh twice in the last month. Lehigh has proven itself. (OCanada) — RR#15. (randyrad) — #14-Bison did not get it done when they had to. Probably the last one out. (Strannywastheman) — Sad way to end a great season. (Tecumseh) — #14. (VTD)

Princeton: Tough loss in the Ivy final. As they say in Brooklyn, wait 'til next year! (Baldo) — #15. (Cooter) — #16. (dek) — Upset C-nell, but taken down by the Eli. (jhu7276) — My #14. Gut check victory over Cornell but not enough left in the tank to overcome Yale. The Tigers will be contenders in 2014. (laxfan1313) — #15, -1. Tigers shocked host Cornell with a 14-13 OT win. Tigers lost to Yale 12-8 in the final. Loss knocked them out of consideration for the NCAAs. Tigers won only 4 of 24 face-offs. (Lax Fidelis) — #14. Nice win over Cornell but came up short against Yale. (maddog9718) — 16. Got whacked by three Ivies in the last month. The defense has been porous for a Princeton team. (OCanada) — RR#16. (randyrad) — #12-Finished Big Red at home in a wild ending. Yale exposed the flimsy Tiger D. (Strannywastheman) — Amazing season and so fun to watch. Sad they are done. (Tecumseh) — #15. (VTD)

Penn: Late fade. No tickee, no shirtee. (Baldo) — #17. (Cooter) — #17. (dek) — Lost to Yale in Ivy tourney. (jhu7276) — My #15. #2 SOS but #14 RPI doomed the Quakers. (laxfan1313) — #17, -1. Lost to Yale in a low-scoring and rugged Ivy playoff battle, 9-6. Loss likely cost them their chance to make the NCAAs. (Lax Fidelis) — 17. Lost to Yale twice in the last month as well as Harvard. (OCanada) — RR#18. (randyrad) — #16-Could not keep it going against Yale. Future looks positive for Quakes. (Strannywastheman) — Maybe next year? (Tecumseh) — #17. (VTD)

Johns Hopkins: The streak of NCAA appearances ends at 41. (Baldo) — #16. (Cooter) — #19. (dek) — Solid game vs. Army to end at 9-5 ... for many programs this would be a great season ... for JHU fans it was a disappointing one as 41-year NCAA streak was on the line. (jhu7276) — My #16. On the outside looking in this year. ESPN censors are relieved. (laxfan1313) — #16, -1. Took care of what little they could control with a 9-4 win at Army despite several injuries and suspensions. Disappointing 2013 saw the end of a 41-year NCAA run. (Lax Fidelis) — 14. People will have them lower, but I think this is about right for them. (OCanada) — RR#19. (randyrad) — #19-Beating Army too little, too late. Seem to be some systemic problems. Has Petro done all he can do here? Ann Arbor? Bueller? (Strannywastheman) — #16. (VTD)

Drexel: Another late fader who will look to build for the future. (Baldo) — #19. (Cooter) — #18. (dek) — 11-4. (jhu7276) — My #18. The Dragons lost to resurgent Towson. (laxfan1313) — #14, -2. First-round 11-8 loss to Towson in CAA semifinal cost the Dragons any chance for a NCAA berth. (Lax Fidelis) — 19. Another victim of Towson's development over the season. (OCanada) — RR#17. (randyrad) — #22-Dragons played better all year than Towson-except when it mattered. (Strannywastheman) — #19. (VTD)

Towson: #15. (dek) — #21, +4. 10 and 7 Tigers won 7 of their last 9 but avenged both of those losses in the CAA playoffs, knocking off Drexel 11-8 and then host Penn State 11-10. (Lax Fidelis) — 18. Huge development over the year. Wins the AQ to get into the tourney. (OCanada) — RR#14. (randyrad) — #18-Surprising win over PSU, peaking at the right time. OSU may be too much for them to handle. (Strannywastheman) — So happy for the Tigers. Is Columbus the next upset? (Tecumseh) — #18. (VTD)

St. John's: #20. (Cooter) — Two wins to end the year. (jhu7276) — My #20. Bringing up the rear in the final poll. (laxfan1313) — #18, -1. No game. (Lax Fidelis) — RR#20. (randyrad) — #17-Stumbled their way out of BE tourney-may have done some damage if they made it. Great season. (Strannywastheman) — Coach Miller is excellent and is only getting better. (Tecumseh) — #25. (VTD)

Villanova: Game group who spotted everyone too long a lead with a slow start and could not quite catch up. (Baldo) — #20. (dek) — Ends 7-8. (jhu7276) — #22. Beat Georgetown in a high-scoring shootout in a Big East semifinal, 15-12. Stayed in touch with Syracuse for quite awhile but finally fell, 13-9. Good ending for 2013 after a rocky 1 and 5 start in 2013. Played the #4 SoS schedule according to LaxPower. (Lax Fidelis) — 20. They are a good team but just too many losses over the year. (OCanada) — RR#22. (randyrad) — #20-Battled Cuse, not enough. Corrado is a very good coach that just does not seem to get his due. Nova is on the rise. (Strannywastheman) — #20. (VTD)

Virginia: Too little, too late for 2013. (Baldo) — #18. (Cooter) — At least they surprised MD in the ACC tourney ... but end a most disappointing year with loss to UNC ... Dom's boys will be back. (jhu7276) — #24, -1. No game, very disappointing season for the folks in Charlottesville. (Lax Fidelis) — #21-DNP. Hard to believe Hoos are not in the playoff mix. Watch out next year. (Strannywastheman) — #23. (VTD)

Fairfield: My #19. Ended the season splitting two games with Denver. While #30 on the computer ratings, two competitive games with Denver earn top 20 status. (laxfan1313) — #20. Stayed with Denver in an ECAC semifinal at Hobart for most of the game but finally lost 10-8. (Lax Fidelis) — RR#21. (randyrad) — #22. (VTD)

Army: RR#23. (randyrad) — #23-Black Knights started slow but finished well. Just couldn't get it done at Patriot or Hop. (Strannywastheman) — A great coach and always a pleasure to watch. (Tecumseh) — #24. (VTD)

Hofstra:

Bryant: #24-Pressler will have these guys ready. Would be surprised if Cuse wins by more than a couple. Great season for Bulldogs. (Strannywastheman)

Other Teams Pollsters Considered (and comments, if any)

. Colgate: RR#24. (randyrad)

. Massachusetts: #23, -2. 7-8 Gorillas snuck in the backdoor for the CAA playoffs but lost 10-7 to the host Nittany Lions in semifinal action. (Lax Fidelis) — RR#25. (randyrad) — #25-Looked great and bad at various times in season. Loss of Manny will hurt. (Strannywastheman)

. Marist: #25, -1. Major stub of the toes finish for the Red Foxes as they followed their stunning loss to Manhattan by then losing to Detroit 7-6 in a MAAC semifinal. (Lax Fidelis) — #21. (VTD)

. Harvard:
