Pollsters' Comments About Teams They Ranked

Loyola: 14-1 and they were seeded 3rd??? (arealax) — Hounds still #1 on the eve of the Big Dance. (Baldo) — #1. (dek) — 1. Hounds on the scent of championship. Look strong vs. the Jays ... legit. (hoyaboy) — After slow start, took down Blue Jays. Earn top seed as far as I'm concerned. (jhu7276) — My #3. Impressive against the Blue Jays last week, but will their relatively weak schedule (SOS 24) expose them as not battle tested? (laxfan1313) — #1. 'Hounds survived early burst by Hopkins and controlled the remainder of the game due to superior speed (especially on GBs) and defense. NCAA knocked them down to #3 in seeding; they play the high-flying Albany Great Danes. (Lax Fidelis) — #1. Validating win over JHU. (maddog9718) — 1. Loyola finally posts another convincing win over a top team. I have been wondering how they would do this past weekend. Not a blowout but a solid win. (OCanada) — RR#1. (randyrad) — #1 Took out the Hop in the Battle of Charles St. Look Final Four ready. Toomey an elite coach? Yep. (Strannywastheman) — Handled Hopkins, now the party starts. (Tecumseh) — #1. (VTD)

Duke: After a short bad patch, Dukies appear to be back on track to contend for all the marbles. #1 seed for the post-season. (Baldo) — #2. (dek) — Although they lost ACC tourney, I wouldn't want to play them in the NCAAs. (jhu7276) — My #1. The team to beat this year. (laxfan1313) — #2. Visited BU and, thanks to 25 saves by BU goalie Christian Carson-Banister, got a lot more of a workout than the Devils probably expected. Drew #1 seed for NCAAs. (Lax Fidelis) — 3. Lost to Cuse. Also lost their LSM, which had to hurt them. (OCanada) — RR#3. (randyrad) — #4 (Strannywastheman) — Are they Final 4 bound? I think so. (Tecumseh) — #2. (VTD)

Syracuse: Cruisers looking good heading into the post-season. (Baldo) — #3. (dek) — Romp over Colgate to end strong. (jhu7276) — My #2. If you can't keep the ball away from their offense, you will lose. If Bryant beats Siena, will Bryant's face off excellence cause problems for the Orange? (laxfan1313) — #4. The Orange wasted little time routing the visitors from Colgate; it was over very early. As #2 seed, the Orange will play winner of the Bryant/Siena play-in game. (Lax Fidelis) — #3. No problem with Gate. (maddog9718) — 2. Did not lose to 'Gate. Still not sure how they gave up so many to ND. I started them at #1 this year. They might just make that come true. (OCanada) — RR#2. (randyrad) — #3 Demolished Gate. Will be a tough out in NCAAs. (Strannywastheman) — Blew away Colgate. Impressive. (Tecumseh) — #3. (VTD)

Denver: BE champs. (arealax) — Pios winning streak continues winning the Big East. They get to stay home but draw a tough opener against Heels. (Baldo) — #4. (dek) — Handled Nova. (hoyaboy) — TCB vs. Nova ... how good are they? (jhu7276) — My #5. Hosting the Tar Heels on Saturday. North Carolina played a tougher schedule, SOS 10 to SOS 18, but the Pioneers haven't lost since March. (laxfan1313) — #3. Pioneers dominated the Big East tournament at Villanova, winning two 14-7 games over Rutgers and host Wildcats. Meet Carolina for 3rd straight year in NCAAs. (Lax Fidelis) — #5. Big East champs. (maddog9718) — 10. Doubled up Nova to win the AQ. They might make a run. (OCanada) — RR#6. (randyrad) — #5 Wiped out Rutgers and Nova for Big East. May = Tierney time. (Strannywastheman) — Need to get a statement win. (Tecumseh) — #4. (VTD)

Notre Dame: Irish defense gives up 30+ goals in their last two games and only courtesy of their offense pulls out two wins. (Baldo) — #5. (dek) — Beat Army in a barn-burner. (jhu7276) — My #6. I'm not sold on the Fighting Irish. Who knows which team will show up at any given game. Barely squeaked by Army, giving up 17 goals. (laxfan1313) — #6, +2. Very surprising high-scoring shootout in South Bend as the Irish beat Army. Harvard will visit on Saturday. (Lax Fidelis) — #4. Barn burner against Army. (maddog9718) — 5. If you are going to get on a roll, do it last when it can carry you to a title. What happened to the D? (OCanada) — RR#5. (randyrad) — #2 Nipped the Cadets in a shootout??? Who are these guys? If they can keep this up, they could win the whole thing. (Strannywastheman) — Which Irish team shows up? (Tecumseh) — #5. (VTD)

Maryland: Sr. day ... got the job done. (arealax) — Is the Navy win a turning point as the Terps look to climb out of their swoon? (Baldo) — #6. (dek) — Regain shooting touch vs. Navy. (jhu7276) — My #7. Revenge match against Cornell coming up on Saturday. Will Byrd Stadium become Schoellkopf South? (laxfan1313) — #5. In what might turn out to be the last regular season meeting between the Terps and Navy, UMd doubled up the visiting Mids. Big Red of Cornell is opening round foe for the Terps. (Lax Fidelis) — #7. No let down against the Mids. (maddog9718) — 4. Lost to ND and JHU. Neither was a total surprise, but of the two, I was more surprised by ND. (OCanada) — RR#8. (randyrad) — #6 Easily over Navy. Scoring back? If so, short drive to Baltimore. (Strannywastheman) — Sunk a Navy team by doubling them up. Now the Big Red in the 1st Round again. (Tecumseh) — #10. (VTD)

Virginia: Hoos will be dancing and entertain the Blue Jays in Hooville. (Baldo) — #7. (dek) — Beat UNC in ACC also-ran game. (jhu7276) — My #8. Hosting the Blue Jays on Sunday. The Cavs deserve to be favored in this match-up. (laxfan1313) — #7, -1. Cavaliers will host Hopkins in NCAA opening-round; the schools played an OT game at the same site in March. (Lax Fidelis) — 7. I know they beat UNC in a game that did not really matter for the ACC AQ, but they did not have as good a season or get on a really good roll. (OCanada) — RR#7. (randyrad) — #7 DNP - one win, maybe two in NCAAs. (Strannywastheman) — Gets to handle Hop again. (Tecumseh) — #6. (VTD)

Penn: Ivy champs. Will they get a home game? Yes. (arealax) — Quakes win the Ivy tournament and look very good heading into the party with a high seed. They draw scary Drexel in a neighborhood match-up. (Baldo) — #10. (dek) — Nice job in Philly as Penn roars back from 4 down to Harvard. (hoyaboy) — Moving them up after Ivy title game ... super season so far. (jhu7276) — My #4. Kings of the B League after defeating Cornell and Harvard. Battle tested with #3 SOS. #2 RPI. Penn looks legit. (laxfan1313) — #9, +2. The Zach Losco show hit Harvard Stadium as the Quakers won two hard-fought games to win the Ivy title; the Feeneys certainly did their part as well. The Quakers host their across-Market Street neighbor Drexel in the opening round. (Lax Fidelis) — #10. Ivy champs! (maddog9718) — 9. Won the Ivy AQ but the turnovers? Sheesh. Reminds me of JHU last year. Love their goalie today. (OCanada) — RR#9. (randyrad) — #9 Losco led the Quakes late over Cornell in an impressive comeback. Patient win over Harvard in a typical 1-goal Ivy final. These Quakes can hang with anybody. Can they go deep? Just might. (Strannywastheman) — Could be headed to the Final Four. Nice win over Harvard. (Tecumseh) — #9. (VTD)

North Carolina: Heels looking desperately for a tournament reset button. Long trip to play a mile up is not what they had in mind. (Baldo) — #8. (dek) — Lost to Cavs ... what will happen in NCAAs??? (jhu7276) — My #10. #10 RPI says UNC is correctly a road team this week. Long trip to Mile High on Saturday. (laxfan1313) — #8, -1. Tar Heels drew perhaps the worst match-up in the 1st round for a highly-regarded team; a flight to Denver to play the streaking Pioneers. (Lax Fidelis) — 6. Too many late losses for me to rank them higher. (OCanada) — RR#4. (randyrad) — #8 DNP - these Heels can play up or down with most. Another earlier out than we expect? (Strannywastheman) — Got to beat Denver at home. (Tecumseh) — #7. (VTD)

Johns Hopkins: Played for a 1st round home game ... but now they look to be on the road for the tourney. (arealax) — Jays beat the bubble and will be dancing in Charlottesville again. (Baldo) — #9. (dek) — 8. Met their match in Loyola. (hoyaboy) — End 10-4 with poor last three periods vs. the Hounds ... just barely make the top 10. (jhu7276) — My #9. Road trip to Hooville on Sunday. (laxfan1313) — #10, -1. Blue Jays started fast but couldn't maintain the pace at Loyola. Blue Jays get an opportunity to avenge a regular-season OT loss when they head to Charlottesville to play UVa. (Lax Fidelis) — #9. Tripped up by the Hounds. (maddog9718) — 8. The eye test over the last few weeks puts them above the rest of the close contenders for this slot. (OCanada) — RR#11. (randyrad) — #10 Not enough for the Hounds; NCAAs probable not certain. Are we witnessing the end of dominance for the Hop? Like Tiger, they don't scare people any longer. (Strannywastheman) — Thud on Charles Street. (Tecumseh) — #8. (VTD)

Cornell: Red will stumble into the playoffs but will be in the mix. (Baldo) — #12. (dek) — Lost 4 of last 6 games. (jhu7276) — My #11. B League co-champs this year. Led the B League AQ recipient (Penn) 10-7 after three quarters on Friday. A four-quarter performance will give the Big Red a fighting chance against the Terps on Saturday. (laxfan1313) — #11, -1. Big Red lost in first round of Ivy playoffs to Penn. They head to College Park to play the Terps. (Lax Fidelis) — 16 Lost 4 of their last 6. Doubtless this ranking is a reflection of the ACC JHU Alliance that is out to discredit anything the Red do. (OCanada) — RR#10. (randyrad) — #12 Could not finish against Penn. No longer the juggernaut they were in March. What's up with CB? Not the same player he was earlier this year. (Strannywastheman) — Another shot at the Turtles. (Tecumseh) — #11. (VTD)

Harvard: Cantabs post-season performance earns them a spot on the dance floor. (Baldo) — #15. (dek) — Tough loss to Quakers in Ivy title game. (jhu7276) — My #14. B League co-champs this year. Held scoreless for almost three quarters against fellow B leaguer Penn. With #16 RPI, they are fortunate to get a ticket to the dance over Hofstra. Going to South Bend on Saturday. (laxfan1313) — #13. Beat Yale in Ivy semi; early 4-0 lead over Penn evaporated as the Crimson scored only one more goal in the game. You don't win very many when you give up 7 straight goals. Crimson head to South Bend for NCAAs. (Lax Fidelis) — #11. Came up short against Penn. (maddog9718) — 12. Played for the Ivy AQ. Worst shooting I have seen all season and bad decision-making. So how did they make it that far? (OCanada) — RR#14. (randyrad) — #11 Pulled another one out over Yale. Dwyer at X is special-lifts his teammates to another level. Gambitsky in goal again excellent. Penn too much in Ivy final. Should make dance-deserve it. (Strannywastheman) — Could have beaten Penn, capable of beating the Irish. (Tecumseh) — #13. (VTD)

Drexel: Cardiac Dragons take the Colonial and punched their ticket for the post-season. (Baldo) — #11. (dek) — Defeat Hofstra. (jhu7276) — My #12. Courageous win or go home victory over Hofstra. Now they must walk a mile to Franklin Field to face the B League AQ recipients. The Dragons are a top quality team. (laxfan1313) — #15, +2. The OT Kings of the CAA; the Dragons earned a chance to play their neighborhood rival Penn. (Lax Fidelis) — #12. Big OT wins against Hofstra and Towson. (maddog9718) — 13. Beat Hofstra to win their AQ. Hofstra is a solid team. (OCanada) — RR#12. (randyrad) — #13 First Towson, then upset Hofstra in 3OT. Nice wins for Coach Voelker and the Dragons. Play well against better teams. (Strannywastheman) — Sleeper in all of this. Could beat Penn in the battle of the Cheese Steaks. (Tecumseh) — #12. (VTD)

Albany: Will the defense and Blaze Riordan show up for the party? (Baldo) — #14. (dek) — 13. Exciting lacrosse from the Danes. (hoyaboy) — Up and down year for the Danes. (jhu7276) — My #15. Plenty of scoring. Can they do it against the Greyhounds? (laxfan1313) — #12, +2. Danes had to rally to win in AE semi over Stony Brook; had no trouble routing UMBC in the final. Interesting match-up against Loyola. (Lax Fidelis) — 11. Won 7 straight after JHU loss. They are a good candidate for dark horse. (OCanada) — RR#13. (randyrad) — #19 Beat Stony Brook and UMBC. These pretenders could win by a couple or get smoked by 7. WTFK? (Strannywastheman) — Do the Thompsons light up the show? (Tecumseh) — #16. (VTD)

Yale: Elis just missed just about all year long. Wait 'til next year in New Haven. (Baldo) — #16. (dek) — Two losses to the Crimson ... not good. (jhu7276) — My #16. Lost to Harvard in the B League tourney semis. (laxfan1313) — #16, -1. Semifinal loss in Ivy tourney to host Harvard cost Yale any chance of making NCAA field. (Lax Fidelis) — 18. The end of season pained me, as I had family play there, but there you are. (OCanada) — RR#18. (randyrad) — #14 Harvard by a goal two weeks in a row. Levings good not great; lack of mid scoring and an off-week by goalie the difference. (Strannywastheman) — Ended the season with a whimper. (Tecumseh) — #15. (VTD)

Hofstra: Triple OT loss to Drexel in the Colonial final spelled doom for the Dutch. Last team out. (Baldo) — #13. (dek) — Knocked off by Drexel. (jhu7276) — My #13. 3OT loss to Drexel made the Pride the odd man out of the NCAA tourney. With #14 RPI, maybe should have gotten in over Harvard. Surely a close call. (laxfan1313) — #17, -1. Another school that didn't hold serve in their league playoffs; 3OT loss to visiting Drexel cost the Pride an NCAA bid. (Lax Fidelis) — 15. Lost to Drexel and played a 3OT game prior. Solid team that might make the tourney. (OCanada) — RR#16. (randyrad) — #16 Drexel may have knocked Dutchmen out of NCAAs. (Strannywastheman) — Victim IMHO. (Tecumseh) — #14. (VTD)

Lehigh: Good but not great season for the Mountain Hawks. (Baldo) — #19. (dek) — Patriot runner up. (jhu7276) — #25. (laxfan1313) — 17. I do not see a lot of separation in the 15-20 teams. But they had a stronger end of season. (OCanada) — RR#23. (randyrad) — #22 DNP. Hawks will be back. (Strannywastheman) — Tough end of the season. (Tecumseh) — #18. (VTD)

Fairfield: Bad loss to Air Force. (jhu7276) — #23. (laxfan1313) — #14, -2. Loss in ECAC final to Air Force cost the Stags any chance of dancing in 2014. (Lax Fidelis) — 19. Cannot seem to get past Air Force. (OCanada) — RR#21. (randyrad) — #23 Beaten by Air Force twice in a couple of weeks. Fizzled as the season went on. (Strannywastheman) — Coach C is a class act and has done a great job with this program. (Tecumseh)

Army: #18. (dek) — Fell short vs. the Irish. (jhu7276) — My #19. Scored 17 goals against Notre Dame and still lost. (laxfan1313) — #16. Valiant effort against ND. (maddog9718) — 14. Lost to ND and Lehigh to close out the season, but they were better than most people expected. (OCanada) — RR#19. (randyrad) — #15 Battled Irish, impressive in defeat. Glesener is below radar to most - as good as anyone. (Strannywastheman) — Played ND very tough. So proud of these great Americans. (Tecumseh) — #19. (VTD)

Bryant: Bulldogs will get another shot after a play-in game against Siena. (Baldo) — #17. (dek) — End season with 4 straight wins. (jhu7276) — #22. (laxfan1313) — #18, +2. Two comfortable NEC tournament wins earned the Bulldogs a play-in game against Siena; the winner gets to visit Syracuse. (Lax Fidelis) — RR#15. (randyrad) — #18 Beat Hobart for NE title. Can they win a game or two under Coach Pressler at the dance? (Strannywastheman)

Princeton: Too many close losses and defensive lapses cost the Tigers. (Baldo) — Very disappointing season for the Tigers ... Tierney is gone. (hoyaboy) — My #18. #8 SOS, #17 RPI. Bubble out this year. (laxfan1313) — #20, -2. Tom Schreiber leaves Princeton without a final chance to play in the NCAAs. Where is the Tigers' program headed? (Lax Fidelis) — RR#22. (randyrad) — #17 DNP. No way they get in unless Putin ok's it. (Strannywastheman) — #17. (VTD)

Penn State: My #20. #18 RPI and #9 SOS. (laxfan1313) — 20. My last shot at a new #20 team. (OCanada) — RR#24. (randyrad) — #20 Hofstra, ND wins enough to dance? Big 10 should be a good fit. Jobbed by Colonial. (Strannywastheman) — #20. (VTD)

Air Force: Little engine that could as Falcons have a ticket to the party. (Baldo) — #20. (dek) — #17. Tournament bound! (maddog9718) — RR#17. (randyrad) — #21 Falcons finished strong. Nice to see; they have played well last couple of years. (Strannywastheman) — Very proud of the Zoomies! (Tecumseh) — #21. (VTD)

Towson: My #17. OT loss to the Dragons. #21 RPI. (laxfan1313) — #22. (VTD)

Richmond: A shout-out to Coach Dan for doing an amazing job with this 1st-year program. (Tecumseh)

Saint Joseph's: #19, -1. Double-OT loss to Hobart in the semis of the NEC finished the Hawks' season; kudos to the Hawks and the coaches for their stunning reversal of form from prior years. (Lax Fidelis) — RR#25. (randyrad) — #25 Lost to Bart in 2OT, a great turn around by Taylor Wray - who looks like one of the better young coaches around. (Strannywastheman)

Siena: RR#20. (randyrad) — #24 Saints win MAAC. Could win a play-in. (Strannywastheman) — #25. (VTD)
