Pollsters' Comments About Teams They Ranked

Tufts: Play already. (AO) — #1 and still shoveling snow. (brutus of apple hill) — #1. The champs get going this week. New look defense will get a tough first test against an underrated Amherst offense. (D-III) — DNP. (DellMan22) — #1. Finally getting this party started ... Amherst home on Saturday. (goalielax10) — #1. Finally ... their season starts on Saturday. (idealtin) — #4. Finally getting season started Saturday against an Amherst team that is an unknown quantity coming into this season. (laxweforget) — #1. Top dog in my poll until otherwise!!! (MasonDixonLine29) — #1. (Richard) — #1. Idle. (Swank_Lax) — Idle. #4. (thatsmell) — 1. Opens season Saturday. (valaxfan) — #1. Still my top team. (wheniwasakid...) — #1. (Youngred)

Cortland: Winning easily and playing very good defense early. (brutus of apple hill) — #2. Methodical. Allowing 1.5 goals per game. Offense is flashy but have plenty of weapons. Will be tested by the Bullets in what will be a low scoring game. (D-III) — Thought Union would be more of a test for Cortland; I was wrong. Two strong showings so far but a rough road ahead. (DellMan22) — #2. Smothering is a complete understatement of how the defense has been playing this year ... Montclair and the Bullets this week. (goalielax10) — #3. Two impressive wins over marginal teams. (idealtin) — #1. Not into the meat of its schedule yet, but started off well beating two decent teams by a combined 25-3. Has done nothing to change my opinion that it is top team in the nation. (laxweforget) — #2. Solid start 2-0. (MasonDixonLine29) — #2. (Richard) — #2. Waiting to play a team that will actually challenge them. Union was cannon fodder for the Dragons. (Swank_Lax) — Nice opening season win over Union, a team that many (myself included) expected big things from this year. #2. (thatsmell) — 3. Beat Union as expected. (valaxfan) — #2. Defense is dominant. As good as 2002? Looks possible! (wheniwasakid...) — #2 -- Looking like a juggernaut. (Youngred)

Stevenson: Easy win over WNEC (WNEC diminishes). (AO) — Four big games coming up. (brutus of apple hill) — #3. Destroying everyone. Jump Salisbury because right now they are a more complete team. Will blow out Lynchburg, but then things will get interesting over the next three games. (D-III) — At 5-0, the Mustangs continue to roll. Impressive that Dailey already has 31 points. Game against Lynchburg should be a good test for SU. (DellMan22) — #3. Traveled to the island and took care of business against an always pesky opponent in the Polar Bears from WNEC ... Lynchburg at home with a week to prepare ... five games in and Mr. Dailey is the front runner for POY and AOY. (goalielax10) — #2. The way they are playing to start the season, they are looking tough. (idealtin) — #2. Has been nothing but impressive on its way to a 4-0 start. Ridiculously difficult stretch over it next four games. (laxweforget) — #4. Solid 5-0 start win nice wins over Hvfrd and WNEC. (MasonDixonLine29) — #3. (Richard) — #4. Killed Western New England and look to be rolling. (Swank_Lax) — Handled WNEC quite easily. Seem to be very sharp, early. #3. (thatsmell) — 2. Looking sharp early. Has two of ODACs best coming up. (valaxfan) — #4. Blew by WNEC. Clearly a top 4 team. (wheniwasakid...) — #3 -- Smoking the field so far. (Youngred)

Salisbury: Defense looks like they may be best in years. (brutus of apple hill) — #4. The Gulls defense is on another level right now. However, they continue to struggle on the other end with turnovers and inconsistency. (D-III) — 5-0 with wins against McDaniel and G'burg this week. The low scoring output against stronger teams could be a problem going forward. (DellMan22) — #4. The Gulls have only given up 15 goals in five games this season ... a visit from OWU this upcoming weekend ... Graneli has been masterful at the face-off X. (goalielax10) — #4. Still getting it done whatever way works. (idealtin) — #3. Seems like it is scoring a little less and giving up a little less than through a similar stretch of its schedule last year. Not sure what that tells me. 5-0 tells me it belongs in the top echelon of D3 teams. (laxweforget) — #3. Still my South pick for the Finals; 5-0 taking apart Lynchburg and GBurg. (MasonDixonLine29) — #4. (Richard) — #3. Taking care of business against the Bullets may not have wowed us like years past, but the defense sure looked good. Offense still working itself out. (Swank_Lax) — Nice win against G'burg. 6 on 6 defense was fantastic, but they need to control tempo and get out and run a little more. Still #1 in my book without firing on all cylinders. (thatsmell) — 4. Winning but not as expected. (valaxfan) — #3. Tearing it up. No problems early for the Gulls. (wheniwasakid...) — #4 -- Business as usual. (Youngred)

Roanoke: As usual scoring lots of goals ... toughest road ahead. (brutus of apple hill) — #5. Jump Middlebury because the Maroons are hitting mid-season form while the Panthers have yet to play. Interesting week against two solid Centennial squads, so they cannot look ahead. Still questions about the D. (D-III) — 3-0 but really untested. Match-up against Dickinson should be a real test of RC's ability. (DellMan22) — #6. Maroons have yet to be tested so far ... This week that could all change with a visit from Ursinus midweek before they travel up to PA to play Dickinson ... upset alert Saturday. (goalielax10) — #5. Maroons have the offensive power. Good stretch of games coming up in a week. (idealtin) — #6. 3-0 but not really tested yet. This week should be more challenging for the Maroons. (laxweforget) — #5. 3-0 with no suprises yet. (MasonDixonLine29) — #5. (Richard) — #6. Very curious to see how this defense holds up against a top 20 team. (Swank_Lax) — Idle this week. #5. (thatsmell) — 5. Goes South for the easy win. Has four of five really spirited games to play, which will tell us a lot. (valaxfan) — #7. Not convinced on Noke either way. Could be anywhere from #5 to #12. (wheniwasakid...) — #7 -- Winning games they're supposed to win. (Youngred)

Middlebury: Ditto. (AO) — Still shoveling snow. (brutus of apple hill) — #6. Host Bates in their opener. Have looked strong in the preseason. A very balanced team led by an elite D. (D-III) — DNP. (DellMan22) — #8. Bates to kick things off. (goalielax10) — #6. Guys must be chomping at the bit to get started. (idealtin) — #5. Opening season Saturday, but probably won't break a sweat against Bates. (laxweforget) — #6. Stays put here until they play. (MasonDixonLine29) — #7. (Richard) — #5. Idle. (Swank_Lax) — Idle. #6. (thatsmell) — #6. Yet to play. Solid team. (wheniwasakid...) — #6. (Youngred)

RIT: #7. Great home win against RPI, two very even teams. Both appear to be the head of Tier 2 in NY behind Cortland. (D-III) — Won a close one against RPI but have a pretty empty schedule looking forward this week. (DellMan22) — #5. Thrilling/gutsy overtime victory over RPI this past weekend that could have gone the other way ... I like this team's make-up ... Keuka comes a-calling. (goalielax10) — #9. Nice win vs. RPI. Coon getting this team ready for big things. (idealtin) — #7. RPI gave it all it could handle on its home field. Wins don't come easily in what is becoming a great rivalry. Lots of offensive weapons on this team. (laxweforget) — #7. Won nail-biter in OT vs. RPI ... great confidence game for their defense/goalie ... getting shots, need to start burying them!!! Still not sure ranking is right. (MasonDixonLine29) — #9. (Richard) — #8. Good win over RPI means the Tigers stay where they are. (Swank_Lax) — Close win over Rensselear to start the season. (valaxfan) — #10. Nice close win over RPI. RIT looks good. (wheniwasakid...) — #8 -- Big win vs. RPI. (Youngred)

Haverford: #11. Typical Haverford team, rounding into form. Interesting week, with two games they should win, but no cakewalks. (D-III) — Good rebound from the loss against Stevenson to start the year. Seems to have had a great showing against St. Larry. Also, by the numbers, Banno appears to be off to a stellar year. (DellMan22) — #7. Road Warriors keep finding ways to win ... Get to return home to face Denison this Saturday but cannot overlook Skidmore. (goalielax10) — #7. Beating teams with low scores; however, they are getting it done. At this point, they are the team in the Centennial Conference. (idealtin) — #9. Two unimpressive wins against only decent teams last week. Denison may be a big hurdle for the Fords the way things are going now. (laxweforget) — #9. Nice wins against FDU and St Louie!!! (MasonDixonLine29) — #8. (Richard) — #10. The prohibitive favorite in the Centennial. (Swank_Lax) — St. Lawrence win a good one for the Squirrels. Still #7. (thatsmell) — Has put together three straight wins. (valaxfan) — #8. Three solid wins over good teams after a tough opening loss to Stevenson. (wheniwasakid...) — #5 -- Typical slow start but winning. (Youngred)

Connecticut College: Still shoveling snow. (brutus of apple hill) — #14. Busy start to the year, three games in five days. Should win them all if they are a Top-15 team again in '11. (D-III) — DNP. (DellMan22) — #9. Trinity at home ... not a bad way to start off the season. (goalielax10) — #12. High expectations for this team, but time will tell. (idealtin) — #8. Opens against Trinity on Saturday and should be a solid favorite. (laxweforget) — #8. Stays put here until they play. (MasonDixonLine29) — #6. (Richard) — #7. Idle. (Swank_Lax) — #9. Yet to play but there is talent there again in 2011. (wheniwasakid...) — #10. (Youngred)

Hampden-Sydney: #12. Gettysburg win is losing its flare. If they are deserving of this ranking they should beat Cabrini this week. (D-III) — 3-0. Not tested this week but have a tough week ahead. A winless Cabrini could be a fierce opponent. (DellMan22) — #13. Still a little unsure about the Tigers this early, whether they are bologna or filet, but for now they make a huge jump in my rankings. (goalielax10) — #8. Can't let down against Cabrini. (idealtin) — #13. Beating Cabrini this week could move it even higher. (laxweforget) — #13. Off to nice start 3-0; still not convinced this team is Top 15, yet. (MasonDixonLine29) — #14. (Richard) — #9. Looking ready to give 'Noke a serious challenge for the top stop in the ODAC. Lynchburg still looms in the background as well. (Swank_Lax) — Much improved, yes. But I think overall ranking of 13 is a bit inflated for the G'burg win. I'll keep them at #19 for now. A win over Cabrini could convince me to show a little more love to the Tigers. (thatsmell) — Tigers playing well. (valaxfan) — #5. The Tigers could fall off a bit but are being rewarded for winning big early games. (wheniwasakid...) — #13 -- Riding the G'burg win. Cabrini this week is a game they need. (Youngred)

Lynchburg: #17. Stevenson game will be a true marker of who the Hornets are. (D-III) — Lynchburg has a nice run going since losing to Sam Bradman. Swarthmore should be a good warm-up for the team's travels to Stevenson this coming weekend. (DellMan22) — #10. The Hornets have put together a nice little win streak since their opening loss to Salisbury ... Need to convert on EMO to have any shot against Stevenson on Saturday. (goalielax10) — #10. Winning. We will see more come Saturday vs. the Stangs. (idealtin) — #10. Beat Cabrini by 5 on the road. That is a quality win. (laxweforget) — #14. Nice rebound after opening loss. (MasonDixonLine29) — #13. (Richard) — #17. Solid win over Cabrini. Could be dangerous but still some work to do. (Swank_Lax) — Strong win against Cabrini. Not sure the firepower is there to handle Noke, but that's why you play the games. #8. (thatsmell) — Takes care of Cabrini. (valaxfan) — #21. Watched them play Marywood. WAY too much dodging through three defenders when teammates are open. Hornets have a LOT of work to do. (wheniwasakid...) — #9 -- Looking strong. Stevenson Saturday is an opportunity to make a statement. I'm guessing they get overwhelmed. (Youngred)

Denison: #15. Haverford game will be the last time they play a Top-20 opponent until the last game of the season. Huge game. (D-III) — No games this week but have a huge test against Haverford coming up. Should be a great game! (DellMan22) — #11. May have them a little high here, but we will see after this week's showdown with Haverford. (goalielax10) — #13. Get a better feel for this team after Saturday's game vs. the Fords. (idealtin) — #16. DNP. Still largely an unknown entity. Has had two weeks to get ready for Haverford. It needs to play them tough to justify this ranking. (laxweforget) — #11. Move up with 2-0 start and others dropping down. (MasonDixonLine29) — #11. (Richard) — #16. Idle. (Swank_Lax) — #13. Have some doubts about this ranking, but others are losing. Want to see a solid 4Qs out of the Big Red before they go higher. (thatsmell) — #13. Best team in the NCAC. Great chance for a Pool B already. (wheniwasakid...) — #12 -- Nothing notable yet, but they get a shot at a sluggish Haverford on Saturday. (Youngred)

Stevens: Convincing win vs. ranked team. (brutus of apple hill) — #18. Surprise team of 2011 so far, rolling along. (D-III) — 3-0. Great wins this week. Ducks should roll on this week as well. (DellMan22) — #18. The Ducks are a team we should be talking about more in the Empire 8 ... and to think this was supposed to be a down year for them ... so far, so good. (goalielax10) — #11. Check out what is going on in Hoboken. Peluso is building something very nice! (idealtin) — #11. Clobbered a good Springfield team on the road. Three impressive wins to start the season. (laxweforget) — #12. Off to great start 3-0 ... full of surprises right now; playing great all over the field. (MasonDixonLine29) — #12. (Richard) — #14. Dismantled Springfield in impressive fashion. (Swank_Lax) — 2-0. Wins over EC and Endicott, losses from a few others have them landing at #9 this week. But not sure if they belong there. (thatsmell) — Ducks looking good. (valaxfan) — #11. Really impressive early on. Can they do damage in the E8? (wheniwasakid...) — #17 -- Looking strong so far. Peluso's doing some good work. Watch out for these guys. (Youngred)

Rensselaer: Tough OT scrape with RIT causes no harm in rankings. (AO) — #8. OT loss on the road should not drop them. (D-III) — Loss to RIT but remain relatively unchanged in the rankings. Should be an easy road this week against Castleton and Southwestern. (DellMan22) — #14. Comeback fell short in overtime against RIT ... still a quality team and will get better and better as the season goes on. (goalielax10) — #14. I believe RIT is the real deal, and if they can take them to OT, the Engineers deserve the rank. (idealtin) — #15. Another epic battle with RIT. Losing by 1 on the road to a higher ranked opponent does not hurt and actually helps its ranking, especially given where I had it last week (#17). (laxweforget) — #17. Played well in loss to RIT. (MasonDixonLine29) — #10. (Richard) — #11. No reason to drop them for an OT loss to my 8th ranked team. (Swank_Lax) — Plays RIT tough. (valaxfan) — #12. Another good Upstate NY team. Lost a close game to RIT. (wheniwasakid...) — #14 -- Tough loss to RIT. Should run the table until they play Middlebury. (Youngred)

Dickinson: #9. Rolling along, but are the injuries going to become an issue? We'll know a lot more when Roanoke comes to town. (D-III) — 3-0. Solid win against Montclair State. Don't look past Kenyon when preparing for Roanoke this weekend. (DellMan22) — #12. Young team that went into Montclair and took care of business ... Split this week and they remain in my top 15; sweep this week and there's no reason not to put them in the top 10. (goalielax10) — #20. Nice wins so far and probably deserve to be ranked higher. More will shake out as season moves forward. (idealtin) — #17. Beating Montclair by 5 on the road is a quality win. Moves up another notch. (laxweforget) — #10. Nice win over Montclair ... 3-0 start. (MasonDixonLine29) — #15. (Richard) — #12. Injuries are becoming a concern, but they may be able to steal the Centennial championship with Gettysburg down from their usual elite level. (Swank_Lax) — #19. (thatsmell) — Has big test against Noke coming up. (valaxfan) — #19. Needed someone to round out my Top 20. Dickinson is in this week. Needs to impress the pollsters though. (wheniwasakid...) — #11 -- Their depth is surprising to this pollster but haven't really played a strong opponent thus far. (Youngred)

Gettysburg: Hard time finding the back of the net over the past three games. (AO) — If the offense doesn't wake up, this could be the last ranking in top 20. (brutus of apple hill) — #16. Solid D, but big problems on O. No true threats, too many individual moves, and lack the solid ball movement of Bullet teams in the past. Hank will figure things out and, they will be a player in the end. (D-III) — Found some redeption in a close win over Goucher, but the weekend saw the Bullets add another to the loss column. What is going on with thier shooting? The Bullets are outshooting their opponents by almost double but only hitting the cage 53% of the time with only 30 goals. A team cannot shoot this poorly and win consistently. Plain and simple. (DellMan22) — #17. Not the Bullets of old. (idealtin) — #14. Loss, but avoidance of embarrassment vs. Salisbury tells me it is what I thought it was: a good team but not a challenger to the elite this year. (laxweforget) — #15. They need to reset and focus ... too good a program to be out of top #10 for long. (MasonDixonLine29) — #19. (Richard) — #15. Simply not a threat to the elite teams in the country at this point, the Bullets are my third-ranked Centennial team. (Swank_Lax) — Not as bad as I first thought, but not as talented as in years past. Lack some explosive playmakers. But when was Hank's offense ever explosive? Enough positives, especially on the defensive side, that I think they will be a factor in the Centennial in May. #14. (thatsmell) — Falls after Gulls loss. (valaxfan) — #15. Can bounce back, but in every good game so far, they've lost. (wheniwasakid...) — #16 -- Rough start. Need to find some offense. (Youngred)

Bowdoin: Still shoveling snow. (brutus of apple hill) — #10. Because of hockey, will be without Kit Smith for at least the Wesleyan game, ouch. That's like taking Bradman from Salisbury. (D-III) — DNP. (DellMan22) — #15. Polar Bears and Cardinals square off as Bowdoin has won their previous three against Wesleyan. (goalielax10) — #20. Opens its season Saturday vs. Wesleyan and needs to win to keep this ranking. (laxweforget) — #20. Let their season begin, already. (MasonDixonLine29) — #18. (Richard) — #13. Idle. (Swank_Lax) — #14. Yet to play. Could drop if the hockey guys aren't ready to roll. Big game with Wesleyan on the 12th. (wheniwasakid...) — #15. (Youngred)

Nazareth: The win over Geneseo brings Nazareth back into the focus. (AO) — NR. Huge win over Geneseo, but the Springfield loss still leaves doubts. (D-III) — Strong win over Geneseo. (DellMan22) — #16. Just when I was ready to count Nazareth out ... nice comeback victory against Geneseo. (goalielax10) — #16. Looked very good vs. Geneseo, with adjustments made and all clicked. Have to keep it up. (idealtin) — #21. Who are these guys? The ones that beat Geneseo or ones that lost to Springfield? (laxweforget) — #16 Convincing win over Genny. (MasonDixonLine29) — #16. (Richard) — #20. HUGE win over Geneseo keeps Pool C hopes alive for Nazareth if they don't win out in the E8. (Swank_Lax) — Jump up to #16 for win over Geneseo. (thatsmell) — #24. Good win over Genny. Bad loss to a Springfield team I no longer believe in. (wheniwasakid...) — #22 -- Jekyll and Hyde team so far. (Youngred)

Geneseo: NR. Huge disappointment; they were never really in the Nazareth game. Giving up 14 goals. (D-III) — The Blue Knights drop with the loss against Nazareth. The loss of Costanza is certainly being felt. Hopefully Geneseo is able to bounce back this week or fear dropping out of the top 20. (DellMan22) — #17. Have to play 60 minutes of lacrosse not just 30 ... I should know better than to drink the blue kool-aid, but I still think they will rebound. (goalielax10) — #18. Have a great transition game, but big hole at goalie was not filled from what I saw on Saturday. (idealtin) — #18. Five-goal loss at Nazareth drops it considerably in the rankings. (laxweforget) — #18. Lost tough one to a good Nazareth team. (MasonDixonLine29) — #17. (Richard) — NR Think they might miss Dennis Costanza? Genny D torched for 14 in loss to Nazareth. (Swank_Lax) — #20. (thatsmell) — #23 -- Really surprised at the Nazareth loss. Overrated? (Youngred)

Cabrini: Cabrini is the best 0-2 team in the country, but the losses are piling up. (DellMan22) — #12. Lynchburg game was a toss-up in my mind, as I had teams ranked #11 and #12 last week. It was a game Cabrini should have won at home. Another tough one this week vs. HSC. Needs to win that one to keep this ranking. (laxweforget) — #19. Two tough losses to two very good teams. (MasonDixonLine29) — #22. (Richard) — NR Your typical borderline top 20 team. (Swank_Lax) — #21 -- Very disappointing. They need a win this week vs. HSC to gain some credibility. (Youngred)

Ithaca: #13. Tune up vs. Lycoming before a big Pool C game with St. Lawrence. (D-III) — #19. Like the NESCAC, their season finally gets underway this week. Lots of returning talent plus a very good goalie. (idealtin) — #19. Is it ever going to open its season? Needs to beat St. Lawrence Friday to retain this ranking. (laxweforget) — #20. Open on the 9th with Lycoming, then St. Lawrence on the 11th, then NEC on the 14th. We'll know more about the mysterious Bombers then! (wheniwasakid...)

St. John Fisher: #19. Don't sleep on this team. Unfortunately, another weak schedule will leave a lot of questions. (D-III) — #21. Two wins and some more to follow. (idealtin) — #20. (Richard) — #18. Idle. (Swank_Lax) — #22. Solid team. But I don't think they are ready for the top 20, just yet. (thatsmell) — #22. Undefeated. Weak schedule. (wheniwasakid...) — #19 -- Impressive vs. no one of note. (Youngred)

Springfield: Disappointing week capped off with a scalding by Stevens hurts. (AO) — NR. What happened?!? (D-III) — The two losses hurt this week. (DellMan22) — #15. Best showing was vs. Nazareth. Was that because it was Naz's first game? (idealtin) — #24. Not sure whether it is inconsistent or just one of many indistinguishable teams bunched up below the top handful of Northern teams. (laxweforget) — #19. Don't ask me to explain this team, because right now I can't. Gut says they fall somewhere between 18-30. (Swank_Lax) — Not Ranked. Loss to Endicott drops them to 23. (thatsmell) — #23 -- Blown away by Stevens. That can't happen if they want to stay in the Top 20. (Youngred)

Amherst: NR Idle. (Swank_Lax) — #16. Talent on O, good coaching and more could mean amherst makes 2011 their year. Or not. We'll know when they play. (wheniwasakid...)

Wittenberg: 4-0 but lack of quality wins prevents them from getting solid top-20 votes. (DellMan22) — #20 -- Winning but not much to hang their hats on. If they're any good, it should be a cake walk until they play Denison. (Youngred)

Keene State: #20. Probably don't deserve this slot, but we'll find out when they face Genny. (D-III) — #18. Beating up on weaker teams. Play hard and never give up with lots of talent. A team to watch? Maybe. (wheniwasakid...)

Endicott: NR. Tough to separate Naz, Endicott, Geneseo and Springfield. (D-III) — Great win against Springfield. Shouldn't be tested again until later in the season. (DellMan22) — #22. Beat a good Springfield team. Loss to strong Stevens team on the road may not look so awful by year end. (laxweforget) — #17. Took down SC in a SLOPPY game. Team could be good, could be outside the top 25. Need more games to really know! Talent and hustle is there. Is consistency? (wheniwasakid...)

Ursinus: #20. Why not the Bears? (goalielax10) — #18 -- Dark horse winning against suspect competition. 'Noke this week will give a better read. (Youngred)

Colorado College: #19. SCAC favorites officially get their season underway against Goucher this week. (goalielax10)

Union: #23. Didn't expect it to win at Cortland and not even sure the 9-goal margin is a surprise. (laxweforget) — #25. (Richard) — #21. Loss to Cortland, but they held up better than I expected. #21. (thatsmell)

Other Teams Pollsters Considered (and comments, if any)

. Colby: #25. (Youngred)

. Western New England: Bubble team. Got crushed by a very good Stevenson team ... but 18 goals? (idealtin) — #25. Didn't expect it to win, but losing by 10 to Stevenson at a neutral site is not impressive. Hard to tell if it belongs in the Top 25. Next weeks games against Nazareth and SLU should tell that tale. (laxweforget) — #21. (Richard) — NR So much for program tradition, eh? (Swank_Lax)

. Montclair State: #24. (Richard)

. St. Lawrence: #23. (Richard) — #25. Could be good. Ithaca and Genny will tell us more soon! (wheniwasakid...)

. Wesleyan: NR Just kidding. (Swank_Lax) — #23. Beat Salve Regina without using their zone at all. Change of the guard on D in Middletown? (wheniwasakid...)

. Randolph-Macon: Not Ranked. But keep an eye on this team. Good enough to knock off H-SC or W&L and play ODAC spoiler. (thatsmell)

. Franklin & Marshall: Not Ranked. But an up-and-comer. Keep an eye on this team. (thatsmell)
