Pollsters' Comments About Teams They Ranked

Salisbury: Just too powerful -even on their off-days. (AO) — Incredible senior class. Easily the top team in Division III. Great attack, midfield, defense, goalie and special teams. We may not see another team as dominant as this Salisbury team for a long time. (corkscrew) — #1. Rolled through the tournament. Stevenson put up a fight until halftime. Cortland put up a fight into the 4th quarter. Other than that, another title for the Gulls. Could we see a "rebuilding year" like 2002 or 2009 next year, where they peak in the quarterfinals? Probably not, but graduating 18 seniors is a lot. (D-III) — #1. Congrats for Salisbury winning another NC. Let the reloading begin. (DellMan22) — #1. The Gulls were my wire-to-wire #1 pick throughout the season ... Only had one game where they didn't score double digits ... Berkman and crew do it again, and it is well deserved. Clear cut #1; 10 rings has elevated this program above dynasty status. (goalielax10) — Wire to wire. Congrats on a fine season. (idealtin) — Ran the table. No doubt that they are number 1. (laxdood22) — #1. (laxweforget) — #1. Undefeated national champion. Not much else needs to be said. (minkhoo) — #1. (Richard) — #1. 10 championships. Holy cow. Double digit championships. Where this team heads from here is anyone's guess, but it would be foolish to think they won't reload. (thatsmell) — Too much Bradford. #1. (valaxfan) — #1 - Sorry to see this senior class go. Bradman and Cannone had great careers and leave some big shoes to fill. If you ask me, Bradman should win the Tewaaraton. Once again Berkman proves has no peer. D1 should take a long hard look at how the Gulls play the game -- this is how the game was intended to be played. (Youngred)

Cortland: My #2 just about all season; was hoping they'd win it all but had a feeling SSU would prevail. (AO) — Easily the 2nd best team in all of Division III. Could be one of the best Cortland teams ever; they just ran into an amazing Salisbury squad. (corkscrew) — #2. Excellent rebound season for the Red Dragons getting back to the NC. Should be very strong in '13. Is Slavik the early favorite for Player of the Year? (D-III) — #2. Runner-up again to SU. Good run for Cortland. (DellMan22) — #2. (goalielax10) — Best of the North, fine season, always reloads. (idealtin) — They hung around and tripped in the final frame. This program leaves me little doubt that they will be top 5 in 2012. (laxdood22) — #2. Should be no doubt about Red Dragons being #2 given that it beat all comers in the North and the 2nd best team in the South. (laxweforget) — #2. Fantastic season ends with a loss in the NC game. (minkhoo) — #2. (Richard) — #2. Valiant effort for the Dragons. Best and deepest team in the North, for sure. (thatsmell) — Played a good game but had no answer for Bradford. #2. (valaxfan) — #2 -- Right there with the Gulls. What a year for Cortland. No shame in losing in the NC; they're a credit to the game. (Youngred)

Tufts: Excellent season, especially in the post-Hessler era (not a lot of folks thought they'd go deep into the hunt this year); kudos to Coach Mike. (AO) — Another Final Four but not enough to get through Cortland. (corkscrew) — #4. Another great year, and just missed a third straight NC appearance with a rough second half collapse against Cortland. Another team that returns a lot and should be a heavy favorite to at least return to the Final Four in '13. Will feature an all-senior close D that has started together for three straight years and a lot of weapons back on offense to offset loss of Mccormick and Kirwan. Need a new face-off man also. (D-III) — #3. Almost in another NC this year. Good run for Tufts this year with tons of promise for next year. (DellMan22) — #3. (goalielax10) — Daley has done a remarkable job with the Jumbos over the last few years. Kudos to him and staff. (idealtin) — Another squad that has had great play year in and year out. They have made 4 final fours and took the title on 2010 and lost in 2011. They will be back for sure in the mix with a young, experienced squad. (laxdood22) — #4. A good case could be made that the Jumbos were the 3rd best team in D3 at year end. But Stevenson beat them head to head early in the season, so the Mustangs deserve to be ranked higher. (laxweforget) — #4. NESCAC is a very tough league, but the Jumbos take it again and had a halftime lead in the semis. (minkhoo) — #3. (Richard) — #4. #2 in the North. Fine season, for sure. They just couldn't regain that magic. (thatsmell) — #3. (valaxfan) — #4 -- Tufts just continues to solidify their position as a D3 power. (Youngred)

Stevenson: Great season for such a young team. Expectations are high for Mustangs, as Salisbury loses incredible senior class. (corkscrew) — #3. Another great year, and another year just behind the top-2 teams in D3. Can they finally break through next year? Return a lot of talent. Replacing Bolland won't be easy and need to revamp the offense. Two goals in a semifinal was the wrong direction to go. (D-III) — #4. Young core for SU coming back. Great season with three tough losses to Salisbury. (DellMan22) — #4. (goalielax10) — Never would have thought at the beginning of the year they would have done this well. Excellent year. (idealtin) — They have been knocking at the door for a while now. Where do they go from here? Heading into a new conference, can they make the next jump to the Cortland/Salisbury level? (laxdood22) — #3. I think the four semifinalists really were the four best teams. The Mustangs beat Tufts head to head and deserve the 3rd slot. A fantastic reloading job. Cantabene is my choice for coach of the year, by a wide margin. (laxweforget) — #3. Great season for the Mustangs. (minkhoo) — #5. (Richard) — #3. #2 in the South. With the job Bener did this season, they are firmly planted among the D3 lacrosse elite. Lots of young talent to be excited about. Move to the MAC should prove interesting. (thatsmell) — #4. (valaxfan) — #3 -- Great season for Stevenson, which achieved far more than I thought they would. Cantabene earned his stripes, a great coach. (Youngred)

RIT: Gave Tufts a good run. Excellent season after losing so much talent. (corkscrew) — #5. Solid season once again for the Tigers. Moved to a much tougher conference and still won the title. Will need to improve on D if they want to compete with Tufts/Cortland in '13. (D-III) — #6. Good run for RIT. (DellMan22) — #5. (goalielax10) — It all comes down to coaching in the end, and Coon is one of the best. (idealtin) — Tufts is killing them! Denied the Tigers twice in the NCAA. (laxdood22) — #5. Lost by one to my #2 and by two to my #4. Its loss to only pretty good RPI might suggest a lower ranking. But it had enough quality wins over the course of the season and finished strong enough to deserve a spot in the top 5. (laxweforget) — #5. Liberty champs had a great run to the quarters. (minkhoo) — #4. (Richard) — #6. (thatsmell) — #5. (valaxfan) — #7. (Youngred)

Denison: Great playoff run. Please play some decent teams in 2013 and not wait till the NCAA makes you play a good team. (corkscrew) — #8. Broke through with a dominant win over Lynchburg. Graduate a lot of seniors and could have peaked. Need to play a better schedule to win multiple big games in May. (D-III) — #7. Solid run for Denison; tough spots to fill for next year. (DellMan22) — #8. (goalielax10) — Another fine season. (idealtin) — They shut me up real quick with two NCAA wins. They still remain on that lower level of top programs, but congrats to the Big Red, you made me eat my lunch twice. (laxdood22) — #6. Both its losses were to my #3. Its only real quality win was a decisive one over Lynchburg in the tournament. While I find it hard to believe this was the 6th best team in D3, you are what your record says you are. (laxweforget) — #7. NCAC champs survive Adrian then had a great win at Lynchburg. (minkhoo) — #8. (Richard) — #8. (thatsmell) — #6. (Youngred)

Cabrini: Despite weak conference schedule, ready to play in NCAAs until the Gulls chalk up another win. (corkscrew) — #6. Finally broke through with a signature win in the NCAAs. Unfortunately ran into the Salisbury buzz saw in the quarterfinals. Could be even better in '13 if their D can survive without McSorley. (D-III) — #9. Great run for Cabrini. Solid win over Dickinson but no match for SU. (DellMan22) — #7. (goalielax10) — I have always said this team plays a weak OOC schedule, but team did very well overall. (idealtin) — Thought they were weak and didn't see them getting anywhere. Again like Denison made me each my lunch. (laxdood22) — #8. All three losses were to teams in my top 10. It avenged one of those. Probably a better team than Lynchburg at year end, but it did lose to the Hornets head to head early in the season, so I rank it lower. (laxweforget) — #8. CSAC champs get a good second-round win at Dickinson. (minkhoo) — #9. (Richard) — #5. Attack was even better than I had surmised. A fabulous defense too. Cavs proved a weak out-of-conference schedule doesn't matter when you've got talent to spare. (thatsmell) — #5. (Youngred)

Stevens: Good season in a down Empire 8. Need to upgrade out-of-conference schedule in 2013. (corkscrew) — #11. Tough team to really evaluate. We know they are marginally better than Springfield, but that is it for the big wins. Best part of their resume is a close loss to Cortland. Bottom line, they need to get rid of "Jersey Week" on the schedule if they want a better seed in the NCAAs. (D-III) — #8. Close loss to Cortland in the 1rst round. Still pack most of their power for next year. (DellMan22) — #9. (goalielax10) — Put a scare into the Red Dragons, but came up just a little short. Nothing to be ashamed of, fine season. (idealtin) — I like the Ducks coming through next year with a solid run. I think they are the third/fourth best team in the North and showed they could run with the best of them throughout 2012. (laxdood22) — #9. Take away the loss to SJF and a very good case could be made that the Ducks belong in the top 5. But ... they did lose to SJF. (laxweforget) — #6. E8 champs very nearly took out Cortland in the quarters. (minkhoo) — #6. (Richard) — #12. (thatsmell) — #12. (Youngred)

Lynchburg: ODAC champs go 0-1 in NCAA and quietly leave the big dance. Senior class was good but never won an NCAA playoff game. Disappointing ending to good season. (corkscrew) — #10. Another year, another bitter end for the Hornets. Finally broke through in the ODAC but then came up small in the NCAAs. Graduate a big senior class, which makes the loss even more inexcusable. Hard to see this being a Top-10 team next year. (D-III) — #5. Disappointing end for the Hornets, however a strong season overall. (DellMan22) — #11. (goalielax10) — Thought the Hornets had more. Still a very good year. (idealtin) — Thought they would make a better run than a first-round exit. (laxdood22) — #7. Its only losses were to my #1 and my #6. Didn't finish well, but definitely had some quality wins early in the season. I don't think this was one of the top 7-8 teams at year end, but it probably was over the course of the entire season. (laxweforget) — #12. ODAC champs disappoint at home in the NCAA. (minkhoo) — #10. (Richard) — #11. Caught looking ahead, and their season was unceremoniously ended. An ODAC title is still a good accomplishment for the Hornets. (thatsmell) — #9 -- Disappointing end to a great year. (Youngred)

Union: Great job by Coach Wehrum and his defense and goalie. (corkscrew) — #7. Another year, another step forward for Union. Big tournament win over Bowdoin. However, with Aaron graduating, it's hard to see this team sustaining as top-12 caliber. (D-III) — #13. Great year for Union. Going to be hard to replace Aaron next year in goal. (DellMan22) — #6. (goalielax10) — Welhrum had the Dutchmen on the cusp. Big shoes to fill in cage, not so easily done. (idealtin) — Rode the hot goalie. I still think they lacked the offense to push through. Great year nonetheless from Union. (laxdood22) — #12. A nice team, but probably will end up significantly overrated. 1-4 against teams in my top 20 plus a bad loss to Williams. I won't depreciate its win over Bowdoin, which was without its best player. (laxweforget) — #9. Two good NCAA wins for the Dutchmen. (minkhoo) — #7. (Richard) — #7. (thatsmell) — #8. (Youngred)

Dickinson: All that hype and yet could not get it done when it mattered most. Centennial champs bow out earlier than a year ago. Disappointing after so much talk. (corkscrew) — #9. Up and down season. Did not see improvement from last year, which should have happened given what they returned. Getting the sense that this program peaked in '11. (D-III) — #12. Disappointing loss to Cabrini in the 1rst round. The Red Devils should be well poised for another run next year. (DellMan22) — #12. (goalielax10) — Fizzled at the end. (idealtin) — Much like Lynchburg, I didn't see any early exit for this squad. (laxdood22) — #10. It could be that a spot in the top 10 is too high for a team that lost four games, including two to teams that won't make the top 20. I think the quality drops off after the top 9 and a number of teams could be ranked here. Dickinson probably has the best resume among that group being 5-2 against teams in my top 20, and its two other losses coming to teams on the near fringe of my top 20. (laxweforget) — #11. Centennial champs get a first-round win but a bit of an under-performance against Cabrini. (minkhoo) — #13. (Richard) — #10. Expectations were a tad too high for the Devils all along. But a good team and solid season nonetheless. (thatsmell) — #11 -- Another disappointing team that had such high expectations. Should be strong again in 2013, but they have a lot to prove on the field. (Youngred)

Bowdoin: Although they beat Springfield earlier on, the PBs had an up-down finish to the season. (AO) — Coach McCabe goes out with great final season. (corkscrew) — #12. Clunker against Union. Injuries or not, they had the athletes to put on a better show. Tough ending to the McCabe era for a team with potential. (D-III) — #14. Strong season for the Polar Bears. (DellMan22) — #13. (goalielax10) — Polar Bears gave McCabe a fine swan song of a season. (idealtin) — They gave Coach McCabe a great run at it. Congrats to coach on a great career. I'm sure he'll be closely watching! (laxdood22) — #13. 3-4 against teams in my top 20. Polar Bears were playing well late in the season until they lost their best offensive player. (laxweforget) — #10. Late injuries hurt the Polar Bears, but they get a first-round win. (minkhoo) — #16. (Richard) — #17. (thatsmell) — #13. (Youngred)

Goucher: Maybe it is time to schedule some top 30 teams in 2013. (corkscrew) — #16. Best year in school history, but when the dust settled, looking objectively their resume is really only two wins over WAC. Graduate a lot of seniors; they have peaked. (D-III) — #11. Best season in school history along with the first NCAA win for the Gophers. Tough loss to SU, but great run for Goucher and the seniors. (DellMan22) — #10. (goalielax10) — Gophers raised a lot of eyebrows this year. I hope it can continue. (idealtin) — Great year; league title and a NCAA win. They ran into the Gulls buzz saw. (laxdood22) — #14. This may be a bit of a stretch given its weak schedule. It was 2-2 against teams in my top 20. Both losses were to teams I rank higher. Mary Washington is the only other opponent even close to "quality". But I can't penalize it for who it didn't play. (laxweforget) — #14. Landmark champs get a first-round road win. (minkhoo) — #11. (Richard) — #9. Great year for the Gophers. Showed moxie and determination all year. Great defense and well rounded team. (thatsmell) — #10. (Youngred)

Springfield: #13. Rode a great senior class into the NCAAs and drew a tough first-round game, but overall a positive season. (D-III) — #10. Tough loss to Stevens for the 2nd time this year. Big shoes to fill in the Midfield for next year. (DellMan22) — #17. (goalielax10) — Lots of senior talent carried this team pretty far. (idealtin) — Always playing good ball in late April and into May. Impressed by the Pride and look for them to hang around in the 10-15 spots for years and years. (laxdood22) — #15. 1-3 against teams in my top 15 plus three other quality wins. Its other loss was by 2 to pretty good Endicott. (laxweforget) — #13. Pilgrim champs go to OT against Stevens. (minkhoo) — #15. (Richard) — #15. (thatsmell) — #14. (Youngred)

Western New England: #14. For some reason have not been able to get back to the level of '09 and '08. Instead of taking the leap as the next great program, they have plateaued and even fallen back a bit. Something is not right here. (D-III) — #15. Good win over Conn College in the play-in round, but couldn't keep pace with RIT. White is going to be hard to replace for WNEC. (DellMan22) — #15. (goalielax10) — Klepacki did a great job with the Golden Bears. (idealtin) — The defense is going to be scary good next year even with Brewster Knowlton leaving. (laxdood22) — #16. All five losses were to teams I rank higher. It had four quality wins including Conn College in the tournament. (laxweforget) — #15. Commonwealth champs get a first-round road win. (minkhoo) — #17. (Richard) — #14. (thatsmell) — #18. (Youngred)

Washington College: The WAC is back? Not yet but could be on their way. (corkscrew) — #17. Next year is a big one, as they return a lot of talent. If this program is back, they will take the next step. Should be interesting. (D-III) — #16. Great season for WAC ending with a NCAA spot. Very young team could be well poised for a strong run in the next few years. (DellMan22) — #20. (goalielax10) — The WAC looks to be back. very good season for Shirk and company. (idealtin) — Put themselves back on the map this year. Glad to see them back in the thick of things. (laxdood22) — #18. Not very many strong cases for #17-#20, IMO. 1-5 against teams in my top 20. (laxweforget) — #17. Shoremen seemed to tire late in season losing four of last seven. (minkhoo) — #20. (Richard) — #13. Great job by the Sho'men getting back to the dance. Centennial will be interesting next year. (thatsmell) — #15 -- Shirk has WAC moving back in the right direction. Future looks bright. (Youngred)

Trinity: #18. Like Union, hard to see them achieving similar results without their keeper. (D-III) — #17. Ended strong after starting 0-2. (DellMan22) — #14. (goalielax10) — Fine season. (idealtin) — Trinity making the tourney was more shocking for me. (laxdood22) — #17. Not very many strong cases for #17-#20, IMO. The Bantams were 3-3 against teams in my top 20. Its only really bad loss was to Skidmore. (laxweforget) — #18. Bantams have a good season and get a first-round win. (minkhoo) — #18. (Richard) — #18. (thatsmell) — #16. (Youngred)

Gettysburg: Another solid season. Why don't Bullets play Roanoke? I would think this would be a good game. (corkscrew) — #15. Even in a down year the Bullets get to the NCAA and get a win (albeit against an NCAC team). Should improve next year, but lack dynamic talent. (D-III) — #19. Very young Gettysburg will only get stronger after a solid year. (DellMan22) — #16. (goalielax10) — A very up and down year. (laxdood22) — #11. Seven losses, but six were to teams I rank higher, and the other was to a team not far out of the top 25. Three wins over teams in my top 20-25. (laxweforget) — #16. Up-and-down season nets a first-round win. (minkhoo) — #24. I love Gburg's program; they were off all year long. Some work to do in PA for next year. (thatsmell) — #23. (Youngred)

Roanoke: Could've finished higher in the ranks, but they couldn't seem to win those particular T-20 games needed to make a case. (AO) — The best team to be left out of NCAA tournament. Explosive offense (#2 scoring in nation), but inconsistent goaltending doomed Maroons. (corkscrew) — #19. Down year and graduate a good senior class. Which direction will the Maroons go? Most probably assume they'll rebound to the Top-10, but I am not so sure. One thing that is for sure, they need to improve the schedule. Cannot waste all important out of conference dates on NCAC also-rans. (D-III) — #21. (goalielax10) — #22. (laxdood22) — #20. Best team not in tourney? (minkhoo) — #12. (Richard) — #16. The Maroons were good, but not great this year. Lots to prove moving forward. (thatsmell) — #22. (Youngred)

St. Lawrence: Need to play a decent team to see if they are for real. (corkscrew) — #20. Like WAC, need to show next year that this season was no fluke. Like Roanoke, need to improve the out of conference schedule. (D-III) — The Larries did well with the mediocre schedule and gained confidence that carried them deep into the season. (idealtin) — #21 and my sleeper into 2013. (laxdood22) — #21. Best team not in tourney? (minkhoo) — #14. (Richard) — #21. (thatsmell) — #17. (Youngred)

Adrian: Showed what they could do vs. Denison in NCAA first round. A quality team. (corkscrew) — #18. Certainly turned some heads with a strong game against Denison in the first round. (DellMan22) — #18. (goalielax10) — #19 came into my poll late in the season. (laxdood22) — #22. Midwest champs very nearly take out Denison. (minkhoo) — #19. (Richard) — #19. Showed they were no fluke, taking Denison to OT. (thatsmell) — #25. (Youngred)

Connecticut College: Should not be in top 20 or have been in the NCAA tournament. (corkscrew) — #19. (goalielax10) — Many folks up in arms of they making into May and the style of play the had on the defensive end made for some good reads on the forums. (laxdood22) — #19. Not very many strong cases for #17-#20, IMO. (laxweforget) — #19. Camels slip in the NCAA field. (minkhoo) — #19. (Youngred)

Ohio Wesleyan: #23. (goalielax10) — I became a big fan of OWU as the year went on. Expect a even better 2013 for them. (laxdood22)

St. Mary's: Underrated team all year. Should be in the top 20. Some good wins and played everyone tough. (corkscrew) — #20. Good season. Lots of young talent will return next year. (thatsmell) — #20. (Youngred)

Ithaca: #20. Solid season for Ithaca. Lose a few impact seniors but still have a strong young core. (DellMan22) — Lots of fine talent that graduates; good overall year. (idealtin) — #24. (laxdood22)

Franklin & Marshall: #20. Not very many strong cases for #17-#20, IMO. 1-3 against teams in my top 20. With the exception of an early season loss to Lynchburg, its other losses were close games. Quality wins over St. Mary's and my #10, Dickinson. (laxweforget) — #24. (Youngred)

Clarkson: No T-20 wins, but a lot of "almosts" - perhaps bodes well for 2013(?). (AO) — #25. (thatsmell) — #21. (Youngred)

Washington & Lee: Good win over Roanoke at end of year, but too inconsistent to be a top 20 team. (corkscrew) — If the Generals could play consistently the whole year, they would have something. (idealtin) — #22. The Gennies never quit when they easily could have. Lots to be excited about in Lexington next year. (thatsmell)
