(DallasLaxDad) The reigning champions are just reloading ... Katrina Dowd is one of the most explosive players in the nation, Shannon Smith is power, and Danielle Spencer is phenomenal. With Lacey Vigmostad patrolling the defense, the 'Cats are not about to relinquish the title. (draw18) A few teams have a chance, but until someone does, you can't bet against the champs. Goalies may be a question, as they saw so little action last year, but the relentless high-pressure D should limit the SOGs. #1. (Glaxrdaddy) #1 until beaten ... Chicago's team of the decade returns with AAs Dowd and Spencer. They'll need a new GK this year unless they play UNC again, in which case a cardboard cutout should do. (Go Team) #2 - I realize most everyone else will pick NU to repeat, but I can't ignore the Wildcat graduation losses. KAH as coach keeps them in my second spot. (Regular season record prediction: 14-2). (johnnyboy) Until some team proves otherwise, the Cats are the team to beat. They start at my #1. (LadyLaker) Too dominant. (LAF1) #1 Graduated 244 of 570 points but returning 326 points and goals against average (GAA) of 6.86 second only to Penn last year. My #1 until they show a weakness. (laxamerica) #1 is the Wildcats to lose for now, but with the losses of Nielsen, Bowen, Meredith Frank, and Lathrop, reloading may be harder this year. Tough schedule peaks in April, facing Duke, Penn, UNC, Vandy, and UVa leading up to the ALC Tourney. (Laxword) Cats are looking for an Avatar for Nielsen, Frank, Bowen, Lathrop. Do the Cats rebuild or reload? (Lionwatcher) NU is #1 one for being undefeated (23-0) in 2009. The champs lost some key players, but they have been able to reload in the past. Can they do it again this year? Swami says 3 losses this year! (MDLaxManiac) #1. Who else? (mytwokeepers) Too many uncertainties without the Bowens and Nelsons of the world being there. But they still have an all-world coach. Wouldn't be surprised to see them at #1 in a few weeks. (novaglax) #1 until they lose. (Seinfeld) Cannot overstate graduation losses. Still plenty of firepower in Spencer and Dowd; younger players must step up. Defense is experienced, but goalkeeper remains a question mark. (slides2) At this point, everyone should be predicting a six-pack. (socrlaxdad) Tonight Show w/ Jay Leno. Five-year plans didn’t work out so well for NBC and Jay, so I’m sticking my chin out and picking the Cats #2. Of course, Jay’s coming back, so maybe NU will too. (UnderArmourOdor) Failure is impossible (with thanks to Susan B. Anthony, women's rights leader). (WLaxinator) Maryland: Maryland's depth and the return of McFadden and Johnson puts them at #1. (D-Lax) I can't get the sloppy performance in last year's national semifinal out of my head. (DallasLaxDad) The Terps just missed out on the dream final with a stumble in the semis -- and Caitlyn McFadden and company are not interested in repeating that history. With Karri Ellen Johnson, Brittany Poist, and quality veterans returning, this game might take place in the final in 2010. (draw18) OK, a powerhouse as a young team can only improve. Virtually the entire team returns, and the seasoning should improve the somewhat wild shooting of last year (SOG% under 74% last year). Ranked #4 at the end of '09, I would bet no one has them behind NC for this year. #3. (Glaxrdaddy) #3 until they beat Penn or Penn loses. It seems everyone is back. Pre-season POY McFadden, Spinneweber, and Johnson welcome young Schwarzmann to Turtletown. (Go Team) #1 - Reese's biggest problem this year will be finding playing time for a stellar freshman class. Only team I see out there with a chance to make it to the tournament without a loss. (Regular season record prediction: 17-0). (johnnyboy) Lots of talent. Lots of hype that this is their year. They have to get past the "Ghost of UNC Past." (LadyLaker) #3 for now, returning 486/491 points!! Would be my #2 if not for that loss to UNC last year. With maturity and stronger play between the pipes could be #1. (laxamerica) Every starter returns from last year's 21-1 team, but the big unanswered question is whether the 2010 Terps will be haunted by last year's self-destruction against UNC in the tourney. Early indicators will be games 3 and 4 against Duke and Virginia. (Laxword) Will this be the season of The Hangover from the disappointment of Towson, or will there be a New Moon this year? All the pieces are in place. (Lionwatcher) Terps are #2. They were great last year and finished 21-1. They are older and wiser, so expect them to be right back in the hunt this year! Go Terps! (MDLaxManiac) #2. Need I say more then Caitlyn McFadden? She gets my vote for Player of the year. (mytwokeepers) In the past five years, I have never seen a reason to change. This time around, Maryland gets the nod. The only problem I see is a sophomore slump by the goalie. (novaglax) Returns a ton of depth at midfield and a more seasoned defense, landing them #2. No questions on attacking ability. Needs to be able to stop the ball in transition better. Expect to see them playing on Memorial Day weekend. (Seinfeld) This team was already awesome last year and underperformed at the tail end. Everybody of consequence is back. Purple-people-haters best bet yet. (slides2) Terps will be hard-pressed to match last year's one-loss record. (socrlaxdad) Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson – There has been much drama on talk show hosts and their shows so the preseason Top 20 goes with that theme. The Terps are the gold standard and resume the top spot this year. Just too much firepower under the Turtle Tent. (UnderArmourOdor) What was ours ... will be ours again!!! (with thanks to Yang leader Cloud William, a character in the original Star Trek television series, Episode 54, Season 2, The Omega Glory). (WLaxinator) Penn: Back to back years, the only team to give NU a run for their money. Exceptionally well-coached, disciplined team. (DallasLaxDad) A crushing semifinal loss only adds fuel to the Quakers for the 2010 season. Erin Brennan, Emma Spiro, and Ali Deluca have no intent of coming justthatclose and coming up short. With Emily Szelest back in the goal for the Red and Blue, Penn has experience all over the field. (draw18) My #2 until someone besides NU beats them. Returning 4 out of 5 of last year's top scorers will help mitigate graduation losses to the nation's top defense, but Brower is one of the best defensive coaches around and will work that out. (Glaxrdaddy) Penn is one team that can win without scoring over 10 goals. Deluca will supply the goals; Szelest will stop them. (Go Team) #4 - Quakers have demonstrated they can reload. Except for early test vs. UNC, schedule will allow Penn to get their traditional strength, team defense, in sync. (Regular season record prediction: 12-3). (johnnyboy) I like this team. Brower is a great coach who maximizes the talent she has. (LadyLaker) Gave Northwestern most trouble the last two years (win and overtime loss). Could this be the year? (LAF1) #2 I feel there is likely to be quite a bit of mobility in the 2-5 range this year. Penn is my #2 for now, as they gave NU their best game last year. Grad. only 73/292 points; lowest GAA last year at 6.22. (laxamerica) Penn returns a solid team despite of losing five starters. Offensively, Bird, Edwards and Lombardo graduated but more critically, Coach Brower needs to replace the core of her line D (Mazer and Renna). Adds Maryland to the schedule in 2010 but loses BU and Penn State. (Laxword) Whether the Quakers can replace five starters is Up in the Air. I am betting that the Sisters of Brother Love will be in the hunt come Memorial Day. (Lionwatcher) Quakers finished 15-3. They are always strong and tough, with only three losses to two teams, with two of them being NU and one to under-rated Stanford. They should be right back in it again this year. (MDLaxManiac) #4. So tough. My only question is how the defense will stand up this year. (mytwokeepers) Returns a boatload of offensive firepower; remains to be seen if coach will make the best use of it. (Seinfeld) No one gets more out of her players than Coach Brower. Some important people gone, but true gamers remain. Brennan is a tough kid. This team just doesn't go away. (slides2) NCAA semifinalists should be the "cream of the Ivy" once again. (socrlaxdad) The Daily Show w/ John Stewart. Ivy League powerhouse, smart, and tough to beat in their firetrap. (UnderArmourOdor) When the Lord sent me forth into the world, He forbade me to put off my hat to any, high or low (with thanks to George Fox, Quaker). (WLaxinator) North Carolina: The 2009 finalists will use that experience to propel them to a strong season in 2010. With 10 starters back, including Kristen Carr and Jenn Russell in the midfield, UNC is poised to return to the final weekend yet again. Mia Hurrin and Katy Fitzgerald's maturity will help ease the losses in the backfield. (draw18) Similar to Penn, returning much of the attack and losing a top defender. Should fight it out with Duke to contend for top challenger of the Terps. I try not to judge them based on one bad game, but then again, it was a really bad game. (Glaxrdaddy) I'm still shocked at the size of the loss to NWU. #8 until I feel better. One of the lucky teams to play Florida this year. (Go Team) #3 - Tar Heels bring a stellar squad to 2010 capable of beating MD on any given day like they did in the NCAAs last season - but MD widened the gap in 2010, IMO. (Regular season record prediction: 13-2). (johnnyboy) UNC will end up in the higher end of the top 10, but until they beat some team in my top 10, they remain on the outside looking in. (LadyLaker) #4 Grad. only 29% of points. Last year's #1 SOS explains their season's thin margin of victory. Could this be the year they really step up? (laxamerica) Tar Heels returning a strong starting line-up while losing All-Universe Defender Amber Falcone, playmaker Chelsea Parks, and D-Wing Katie Brooks. Given the Heels past inconsistency, the big question is whether they can return to the NCAA Final again. (Laxword) Although they hit the Terps on The Blind Side in Towson last year, there will be no surprises this year. Replacing Parks, Taylor and, most importantly, Falcone will be tough, but the pieces are in place for a 2010 run. The Heels didn't fold in 2009, and that must be repeated. (Lionwatcher) Finishing 16-5 last year, they are my #4 team. Even though they made it to the championship game, they lost to all the other Top 5 teams they played last year and split with Duke. They were lucky to beat Terps and make it to championship game. (MDLaxManiac) #3. On a mission to wipe the memory of the championship game out of their system. (mytwokeepers) The outcome of the success this year rest on Ripley's shoulders. (novaglax) My concerns are as much with the losses from graduation as they are with the ability of the team to focus and continue to improve throughout the season. This may be a gift to start them out at #10. (Seinfeld) End of Amber Falcone era, but most of potent attack returns, plus an All-American goalkeeper. (slides2) 2009 runner-up 'Heels have five of first six games at home. (socrlaxdad) Tonight Show w/ Conan O’Brien had a run at the end of last season and a lot left in the Heels, but will that carry-over to this season be short? (UnderArmourOdor) Winners are women who have dedicated their whole lives to winning (with thanks to Woody Hayes, football coach). (WLaxinator) Duke: The Blue Devils welcome back Sarah Bullard, fresh off her World Championship summer with team USA. Kat Thomas will have a huge impact for the Blue Devils in 2010, who will have to face a tough schedule if Emma Hamm can't be an impact player on the field. This is a new era for Duke, but Lindsey Gilbride and her teammates will look to keep the Blue Devils in the national discussion. (draw18) Having graduated three of their top four scorers and the goalie, will the underclass be able to step up? I think last year was Duke's best chance. (Glaxrdaddy) Kerstin Kimmel's Killer Klan Kould Kompletely Krash at Koskinen 2/27/2010 vs. Terps. (Go Team) #8 - I am nervous about putting the Blue Devils this high, because I think they have a lot of new starters to find in 2010 at every part of the field. However, I can't find another team to convince me they don't have similar succession problems, and Duke always has a good pipeline of talent. (Regular season record prediction: 11-5). (johnnyboy) As always, lots of talent on the roster. Can they translate that into wins when the BDs need them most? (LadyLaker) #5 Grad. 230/463 points; 9.33 GAA 5th best of last year's top 20. (laxamerica) Duke is another team that reloads every year but loss of starters Cryer, Davis, Del Monte, Adam, Germinario, and Goalie Imbesi creates some major holes despite the strength of the Blue Devils rising classes. Early February tests against Denver, Vanderbilt, and Maryland may tell. (Laxword) Losing Cryer, Davis, Del Monte, and Imbesi is huge. Only Sherlock Homes will be able to figure out where to replace 131 goals. Need some folks to step up their game this year. (Lionwatcher) Last year 15-6, with all 6 losses to Top 10 teams and 6 wins against ranked opponents. They are becoming inconsistent. (MDLaxManiac) #5. A nod to talent and depth. (mytwokeepers) Can Gilbride and Bullard lead the Blue Devils to the promised land? (novaglax) Height, size, scoring, and a 'tude on the field ought to propel Duke through a few early seasons tests with Vandy and W&M before it runs into MD for the ACC opener. (Seinfeld) Provisional on health of Emma Hamm, who is midfield linchpin. Cryer and Davis take many points out the door, but Gilbride and Bullard are back. Must replace goalkeeper. (slides2) Dookies should stay in the top 10 all season ... yet they are the ACC's #4 at best. (socrlaxdad) Late Show w/ David Letterman. Waiting to be #1 but have played ACC second fiddle for a long time. Can they bust out and I don’t believe the LGL curse has been lifted. (UnderArmourOdor) Even though we want huge individual egos, our collective ego is unbelievable (thanks to Mike Krzyzewski, basketball coach). (WLaxinator) Syracuse: Syracuse makes #5 with its increased depth and speed at midfield and improved defense. Return of Hogan in the cage is huge. (D-Lax) The Orange had somewhat of a disappointing season in 2009, but Christina Dove and Halley Quillinan return to right the ship. Five other starters, including Lindsey Rogers and Liz Hogan in the goal, look to bring the Orange back to national prominence. (draw18) You can't replace Rowan, but I think Syracuse might have something this year. Just a hunch, and I usually pick these guys too high, but I'll say #5. (Glaxrdaddy) Always a tough team in the Dome, since other teams aren't equipped with night vision goggles. When the godfather says we gonna be #1, I say forgetta 'bout it. (Go Team) #7 - Opponents focusing on shutting off Rowan last season may actually serve the Orange in 2010 well, as they learned to score without relying on just her goals. Will finally get to see some of GG's recruits on the field this season. (Regular season record prediction: 14-3). (johnnyboy) High velocity lax is the key to the O-women's success. I predict they will come out of the gate very strong. (LadyLaker) Steady improvement in such a short time. (LAF1) #7 Grad. more than half their offense (220 of 424); 9th best GAA of last year's top 20. (laxamerica) ‘Cuse loses four or its top seven scorers (Rowan, Mosenson, Thomas, and Looney) plus defender Hamm but Dove and Quillinan return to lead the offense. The Orange face Stanford, Towson, Northwestern, and Dartmouth as it prepares for a tough Big East fight. (Laxword) The Orange lose a lot in Rowan, Mosenson, and Looney, but they bring a lot back in Dove, Quillinan, and Hogan, so It's Complicated. Two hot shots from Joesey in Tumolo and Graziano and a new defensive coach should stand the Orange in good stead. (Lionwatcher) Last year finished 14-5. They lost to the Top 10 teams they played. Lost talented Rowan and Looney. GQG brought on new coach to change up the defense. Let's hear more about the team than the coaches this year. (MDLaxManiac) #6. High scoring offense and, on any given day, the best keeper in D-I. (mytwokeepers) Besides Hogan ... Where's the D? Also, do they have a replacement for Rowan? (novaglax) A large team, the spirited scoring leader gone, and new coaches leave enough open question marks that I start the Orange on the heels of Georgetown. Strong early schedule, with five of its first seven games coming against ranked teams. (Seinfeld) Places 5-8 hard to call: Each team loses at least one star. Orange lose howitzer Katie Rowan, but keep Dove and Quillinan on offense. Experienced defense and goalkeeper return. (slides2) The Orange should battle the Hoyas for Big East supremacy. (socrlaxdad) The Jerry Springer Show. The Godfather been around so long that he will bring the fight out of the Orange, and they are so tough in the Carrier Dome. (UnderArmourOdor) I feel the need--the need for speed! (with thanks to Lt. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell and Lt. Nick "Goose" Bradshaw, characters in Top Gun). (WLaxinator) Georgetown: The Hoyas have a top playmaker in Jordy Kirr, and she has the players around her to make an impact--Ashby Kaestner, Bunny O'Reilly, and Molly Ford will wreak havoc on opponents' defenses. With Caitlin Formby back between the pipers for GU, the Hoyas will look to reclaim the conference title. (draw18) Entire attack and the excellent goalie returns. Will make some serious waves. (Glaxrdaddy) This team looked awful in fall ball. So who wants to be a favorite anyhow? Kirr adds such a spark, but her status is uncertain. (Go Team) #5 - Hoyas offense will have to carry the load to offset big hole from graduation on defense. Hoyas will drop if they can't keep playing at a high level throughout the season. (Regular season record prediction: 13-3). (johnnyboy) Tons of talent. I am in "wait and see" mode on this team. I predict this team will be like past years: some big wins with some equally shocking losses. (LadyLaker) #6 Grad. only 33/328 points. Can Rickey get them to the next round? (laxamerica) Georgetown loses four starters, including middies Bloomer, Burton, Trautman and defender Noon but returns their top 9 scorers. Defense the biggest question as Hoyas face a tough early season playing Hop, Northwestern, Florida, Duke, Maryland and UNC in its first six games. Good prep for the Big East. (Laxword) Losing four starters, mostly on defense, will be tough. However, new national team coach Ricky Fried may have The Lovely Bones to allow a win in the Big East, but it will be tough with the Orange and the Irish nipping at the Hoyas' heels. (Lionwatcher) Last year 13-6, with 5 of the losses to teams in the Top 7 plus Loyola. They are "consistently inconsistent". Gtown lost to every top 10 team they played last year in addition to Loyola. Do they even deserve to be in the Top 10 at this time? I'm putting them at #10 to start the season. (MDLaxManiac) #7. A very well balanced team. (mytwokeepers) Rick has all the tools let see what he builds. (novaglax) Solid D and a track record of making the most out of all offensive weapons has me picking the Hoyas for the top of the Big East in '10. (Seinfeld) Will miss All-American Bridget Noon on defense, but retain solid offensive core in Ford, Kaestner, and Kirr. (slides2) Extremely tough early schedule (4 of 5 on the road including Northwestern, Duke and Maryland) will really test the Hoyas. (socrlaxdad) The Colbert Report. You like what you see but you don’t see it that often. (UnderArmourOdor) They never die, who have the future in them (with thanks to Meridel Le Sueur, writer). (WLaxinator) Notre Dame: Despite the loss of Jilian Byers, the Irish take the next step and advance to the national semis. (DallasLaxDad) The Irish lost one of the top players in the nation in Jill Byers, but with Shaylyn Blaney and Gina Scioscia back for ND, all is not lost. Kailene Abt provides quality experience that will help as the Irish look to defend their Big East title. (draw18) Despite losing their top scorer and starting goalie, I pick the Irish to improve on last year and bust into the ACC hegemony. #4. (Glaxrdaddy) Big hole to fill with Beyers gone. Perhaps new football coach Kelly will have extra lucky charms to spread around. The Irish take on NWU, Ohio State, and Stanford early. (Go Team) #6 - If the Irish can find worthy successor in goal, it could be a breakthrough year for Notre Dame. That might make them the team to chase in the Big East standings instead of being the pursuer. (Regular season record prediction: 13-3). (johnnyboy) #8 After Md., returning the most points (349) of last year's top 20; however, last year's GAA at 11.09 was better than only Vandy in last year's top 20. (laxamerica) The Irish have big shoes to fill with the graduation of Byers (83 goals) and defensive leader Burke but return their next eight scorers. Plays 8 top 20 teams next season, but the games that are always circled are Syracuse (4/11) and Georgetown (4/26). (Laxword) Big loss in the front (Byers) and in the back (Goodman) may transform South Bend into Zombieland for awhile. Can't take too long or the Orange and the Hoyas will run away from them. (Lionwatcher) 16-5 last year, 8 wins against Top 20 teams, 5 losses to Top 11 teams, and caught some teams off guard last year, but they will not this year. Graduation losses will hurt at first, especially GK. (MDLaxManiac) #18. Lots of talent, but ... (mytwokeepers) Lost more than just All-Americans with the graduation of Byers and Burke. Will need to see how that leadership and tenacity is replaced before I move them any higher. (Seinfeld) All-Americans Byers and Burke are gone, but Scioscia, Abt, and Blaney can all score. Must replace goalkeeper. (slides2) Soft early schedule could help the Irish into the top 5 by the Ides of March. (socrlaxdad) Late Night w/ Jimmy Fallon. Will need to replace the graduated scoring, but I always like watching the Irish play. (UnderArmourOdor) The secret of success is constancy to purpose (with thanks to Benjamin Disraeli, politician). (WLaxinator) Virginia: The Cavaliers lost a lot to graduation, and the scoring load will have to be shared by Kaitlin Duff, Whit Hagerman, and Josie Owen. Brittany Kalkstein and Lizzie Downs are back for the defense for the 'Hoos, who will have to rebuild quickly. (draw18) Always competitive, but hard to see the Hoos improving on a 10th place finish in '09. (Glaxrdaddy) UVa must learn to give a hoo about the little games. WooTeam could be thrown into blue-orange haze funk without Kazoo music at the onset. (Go Team) #15 - With questions in the goal and other graduations, UVa has to fill nearly half of its starting lineup with new faces. Most of the Cavaliers' tough games come early in the season, leaving little chance to build new team continuity. I think it will be a dismal early part of the season, but the late schedule will allow UVa to finish strong - if people don't panic early when they have an early losing record. (Regular season record prediction: 10-6). (johnnyboy) Lost some key people; got some strong frosh. I like the senior class ... let's see how they lead this Wahoo team. On-field leadership will be key. (LadyLaker) #10 Only Princeton and UNH from last year's top 20 are returning fewer points (165). (laxamerica) After an off year (11-8), at least for the Hoos, does Virginia have enough in the pipeline to compete at the highest level? Virginia loses three of its top four scorers (McCulloch, Weymouth, and Hauser) and starting defenders Holden and Shannon. Early tests come against Loyola, Syracuse, and Maryland in the first two weeks of the season. (Laxword) UVa starting the season out of the top 5 will have some Youth in Revolt in Charlottesville. Six starters gone, including three of top four scorers, will have Julie Meyers searching for The Replacements. Pre-season third in the ACC is not what they expect in Hooville. (Lionwatcher) UVa starts outside of the Top 10 in my poll after going 11-8 last season. They struggled, with one win over a Top 10 opponent, a loss to unranked ODU, and a close game with Penn State! Several quality wins are needed in Hooville to move them into the Top 10. Can the GKs step up? (MDLaxManiac) #8. Too much talent to ignore. (mytwokeepers) Too many big time holes to fill. Also, I hate betting on a team that is relying on a goalie after having medical issues. (novaglax) Will UVa have a real defense this year? Less experienced GKs need better protection than they got last season. (Seinfeld) Lose top scorers McCulloch and Weymouth. Will rebuild around ace midfielders Duff and Kalkstein. Impressive freshman class should have some impact. (slides2) Don't expect the 2010 edition of 'Hoos to lose 8 games like the '09 team did. (socrlaxdad) The Tyra Banks Show. The new model looks good on the runway but despite their elegant play do they have the size to play with the big teams?! (UnderArmourOdor) The reports of Virginia's demise are greatly exaggerated (with thanks to Mark Twain, writer). (WLaxinator) Vanderbilt: The Dores return 11 starters, including first-teamer Sarah Downing. With support up front like Carter Foote and Alex Mundy and USA goalie Natalie Wills in the defense, Vandy could make a return trip to the final weekend. (draw18) Eleven of 12 starters return. Will improve on last year's 10-7 record. (Glaxrdaddy) The Commies return top scorers Downing, Cary, Denkler, and Foote. (Go Team) #9 - If the Commodores are to break into the top 10, this is the year to do it with most of the starting team returning and young talent ready to make a bigger impact after their apprentice year. (Regular season record prediction: 11-4). (johnnyboy) Commodores are looking good to me. I sense they are riding "under the radar" b/c I am not hearing a lot of chatter about them ... makes them very dangerous in my opinion. (LadyLaker) #13 5th SOS last year; returning 343 points; 12.17 GAA, the worst in last year's top 20 and likely related to SOS. (laxamerica) Midfielder Giordano is the only starter lost from last year’s 10-7 team, which bodes well for the future. Tough start to the season playing Duke and North Carolina in its first two games. (Laxword) Wins at BU and against the Golden Domers last year foretold some promise for the Dores. Really lost only one major player in Giordano, so could The Squeakquel be even better than 2009? (Lionwatcher) 10-7 season last year and inconsistent. Only three wins against ranked opponents. Inconsistent at the start and end of the season, what's going on?? Expanded ALC should be interesting this year for them. (MDLaxManiac) #14. Maturing team could make real waves this year. (mytwokeepers) My surprise team of the year to make a huge splash in May. But, alas, being in the ALC with NU doesn't help. (novaglax) Time for the youngsters to step up. The attack is given room to play, which they will need in early season matchups with Duke, Stanford, and UNC. Goaltending held tough last year and may be the difference as to whether the 'Dores are in the top 5, or the next 20, by March. (Seinfeld) This team is going to improve with most starters back. Downing is an able scorer and Carey a rising star. (slides2) Commodores and Penn State should battle for the ALC #2 spot. (socrlaxdad) The Late Late Show w/ Craig Ferguson. Do they not get enough respect? Might show some this year with a few big wins. (UnderArmourOdor) My #10: The struggle to the top is in itself enough to fulfill the human heart. Sisyphus should be regarded as happy (with thanks to Albert Camus, writer and philosopher). (WLaxinator) Princeton: The Tigers will be one of two Ivy teams in the Final Four. (DallasLaxDad) Erin Tochihara leads a young Princeton squad that will be in somewhat of a rebuilding mode. Lizzy Drumm will shoulder the scoring load for the Tigers, who will mature quickly under Chris Sailer's direction. You can't ever really count out the Tigers. (draw18) I think last year was Princeton's best chance to unseat Penn in the Ivy. They lose the majority of winners in every strength category and will finish 3rd in the Ancient Eight. (Glaxrdaddy) Starts action with Hopkins, Rutgers, and Duke. Must win 2 of 3. I suggest a reader poll on LaxPower this year for a new name for Class of 1952 stadium. How about Big Cannon or The Woodrow? (Go Team) #14 - This will be a rebuilding year for the Tigers, which makes me think they will end up third in the Ivy rankings but that will be good enough for top 20 finish and a bubble bid to the NCAA tournament. (Regular season record prediction: 10-5). (johnnyboy) A very young roster. The Tigers have an uphill battle this season. (LadyLaker) #12 Grad. 188/295 points, returning 107 points, the fewest of last year's top 20. Will need new leaders to step up on both sides of the ball. Strong between the pipes. GAA 4th of last year's top 20. As season matures could move up considerably. Best entering class in four years. (laxamerica) 2010 may be a rebuilding year, as the Tigers lose nine seniors including six starters and two All-Americans (McGarvie and McKenna). The schedule doesn’t get any easier and the Ivy is always tough, but don’t bet against Sailer. (Laxword) Another team with six starters gone, including three of top four scorers, puts the Tigers at Nine in my book. I like that they have a top goalie coming back in Tochihara, but there is some work to do in Class of '52. (Lionwatcher) 14-4 last year, four losses to Top 5 teams, lost key members to graduation. I think they will a different look this year based on players stepping up and in. Solid GK. (MDLaxManiac) #10. A nod to Chris Sailor, but I'm not real certain about this year's team. (mytwokeepers) Short roster. What happened to the rest of the team? No depth plus youth is a killer combo. (Seinfeld) Major graduation losses. Still have Drumm on offense and one of the sharper goalies around in Tochihara. Strong freshman class may help. (slides2) With their usual late start, the Tigers will have to prove themselves early to remain in the top 10. (socrlaxdad) Dennis Miller Live. Always a smart pick to be in the top 10 at the end with their coach. (UnderArmourOdor) My #5: They're baaaaack! (with thanks to Carol Anne Freeling, a character in Poltergeist II). (WLaxinator) Boston University: The Terriers will look to continue their domination of the America East as Rachel Klein returns to the cage for BU and McKinley Curro and Erica Baumgartner will shoulder the scoring. With Xan Weitzel and Hannah Frey continuing to bolster the attack, BU will move on to the NCAA tournament yet again. (draw18) Only three graduates, but lose all-time high scorer and best defender. (Glaxrdaddy) The Terriers start the season with UMass, Brown, and William & Mary. Dalton will be missed, but lax goes on. (Go Team) #10 - Dalton did it all for the Terriers last season but virtually all other starters return. BU should sweep through the American East and split their out-of-conference contests against tougher opponents. (Regular season record prediction: 13-4). (johnnyboy) #9 Returning 292 points. Can Dalton's shoes be filled? (laxamerica) BU has averaged 16 wins a season for the last five years but with strengthening its schedule and an increasingly competitive America East Conference, the Terriers may have trouble maintaining that record. That said, BU only loses two starters from last year’s 15-4 team, but they were All-Americans Sarah Dalton and Kelly Munroe. (Laxword) Munroe and Dalton will be missed mightily, but the Terriers have the nucleus for another good season. The Informant tells me that they will win the AE (surprise, surprise), but can they elevate their game out of conference? (Lionwatcher) 15-4 last year, with all losses to Top 11 teams and a convincing win over the Big Green. Can they improve from where they left off is the question? (MDLaxManiac) #13. Consistently strong but not impressed yet. (mytwokeepers) All-Everything Sarah Dalton cannot be replaced, but many starters return. (slides2) Terriers should once again lead the America East conference. (socrlaxdad) Jimmy Kimmel Live. Sometimes forgotten, like JKL, when it comes time to get into the top 10. (UnderArmourOdor) There will be days when it takes all you've got just to keep up with the losers (with thanks to Robert Orben, magician and comedy writer). (WLaxinator) Stanford: The Cardinal won't be denied a tournament spot this year. (DallasLaxDad) Lauren Schmidt returns for the Cardinal, who just missed a berth in the NCAA tournament. That snub did not sit well at the Farm, and with Annie Read back to man the pipes for Stanford, the Cardinal are looking to secure an invitation early on. (draw18) Return 10 of 12 starters, including an outstanding goalie. Only drawback is weak competition on the Left Coast. (Glaxrdaddy) Anyone who can beat Penn belongs in the top 5. Amy has the Cardinal primed to win its 6th straight MPSF title. (Go Team) #11 - Stanford is the class of the West, and last year's signature win over Penn came too late in the season to get the Cardinal in the NCAA tourney. NCAA message to the Cardinal - your strong returning squad needs at least TWO big wins to make it to the post season. (Regular season record prediction: 12-4). (johnnyboy) Giving it up for Stanford. They have talent all over the field. Don't let the MPSF fool ya -- they are the real deal ... just ask Penn. (LadyLaker) #17 Weak SOS last year at 38 but some good wins, one very good, and some strong losses. Grad. only 42/386 points - returning 344! Last year's 5th best GAA partly due to weak SOS. (laxamerica) The 14-4 Cardinal graduated only four seniors and only two started at least half their games. Stanford’s defense and top seven scorers return. (Laxword) The Cardinal (who the Quakers refer to as those Inglorious Bastards) bring back all their weapons. The Cardinal needs to pick up a couple of more quality wins, and this could be the year for a march to May Madness. (Lionwatcher) They finished 14-4 they are under-rated with four losses to Top 10 teams, they need some R-E-S-P-E-C-T and a better ranking this year. They have it from me! (MDLaxManiac) #15. I like the Cardinal. (mytwokeepers) Best players are back on a team that belongs in the NCAA tournament. (slides2) The Cardinal are "Best of the West" and defending MPSF champions, but the NCAA tourney could be elusive in 2010. (socrlaxdad) Chevy Chase Show. Why do they never get poll respect? Because they get canceled too soon and then start the finger pointing! (UnderArmourOdor) Cardinal: Stay out!!! (text on signs installed on all entrances to Franklin Field in 2010). (WLaxinator) Loyola: Loyola is the big question in the pre-season poll. Can they make top-10 by mid-season? (D-Lax) Jenni Adams is building a return to big time with the Greyhounds. With Cara Fillipelli and Grace Gavin returning along with Abby Rehfuss and the addition of Cass Cursaro, the 'Hounds will be a force in the Big East. (draw18) The Terphounds might lose early. They start the season with Penn State and UVa but should come on strong. Jen's influence can be noticed on free position shots, she calls it a roo bounce. (Go Team) #17 - The Greyhounds were the "feel good" team in 2009, as Loyola's program returned to respectability. But that's over now, and JA and her troops will need to work hard to keep advancing. Loyola lost some scoring but looks like they have scorers in the waiting to fill that void. (Regular season record prediction: 11-6). (johnnyboy) My surprise in this poll. Going out on a limb here with a big jump, but I think the Greyhounds are poised for a huge 2010 season. (LadyLaker) #11 Average defense and average returning points from last years top 20, but the addition from down under has them on the rebound. (laxamerica) Loyola was another surprise last year, finishing 11-5. While not yet ready to challenge for the Big East championship, it is very capable of surprising the unwary. The Greyhounds graduated eight seniors including four starters and return four of their top five scorers. (Laxword) The Greyhounds surprised some folks in 2009. Although loses did not spare them, those girls that have engaged in their own personal Star Trek, including the newest one from down under, to be coached by Ms. Adams, should be able to reproduce the success from 2009 and then some. will get a glimpse early with tough tilts against the Hoos and the Nittany Lions. (Lionwatcher) Finishing 11-5, they lost to two unranked teams (Rutgers and L'ville) and had three wins against ranked teams. The phoenix has risen from the ashes! Hey mate, go Hounds! (MDLaxManiac) #9. My pick to surprise and rise through the rankings. (mytwokeepers) I really like the advancement and passion for the game Jen is doing for the Hounds. In another year they will be a sure top 10. (novaglax) This may be the year that the Jen Adams machine cracks into the elite. Gavin and Rehfuss are back. Look for contributions from Decker from Navy and Cursaro from Australia. (slides2) 'Hounds have a new stadium in 2010, and adding Decker and Cusaro should be enough to get this team into the Big East and NCAA tournaments. Tough early schedule (four road games, including UVa, Penn State, and Denver) will be a real test. (socrlaxdad) The View. Is having the best view in Charm City enough for the Hounds? (UnderArmourOdor) Run, Greyhounds! Run! (with thanks to Jenny Curran, a character in Forrest Gump). (WLaxinator) Dartmouth: The Big Green welcome back a host of starters, including USA team member Julie Wadlund, who has been a huge part of the Dartmouth success over the years. With Colleen Olsen and Greta Meyer back along with Abi Holden and Sarah Parks, Dartmouth will continue to challenge for Ivy recognition in 2010. (draw18) Last year, a very young team that almost upset the Quakers. In fact, in some games too much hustle was their undoing. That will improve with some maturity. #2 in the Ivy. (Glaxrdaddy) Sorry, rafter jack, I don't believe. (Go Team) #12 - In 2009, Dartmouth was really GREEN with a very young squad. It was a year of learning, getting experience, and gaining confidence. But in 2010, they will be looking for results and should pass Princeton in the Ivy standings. (Regular season record prediction: 10-4). (johnnyboy) I think D-mouth will give Penn a fit in the Ivies. A great season ahead in the Ivy League! (LadyLaker) #14 Returning 196/244 points with middle of the pack top 20 GAA last year. With increased save percentage could compete better. (laxamerica) While playing everyone tough, Dartmouth had a frustrating 8-8 season last year as Coach Patton slowly rebuilds the Big Green. 2010 may be looking up as Dartmouth graduated only one starter. (Laxword) Graduation did not rob the Green, coming off, at best, a so-so year. The Green should be reciting Invictus this year, "It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll. I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul." They control their own destiny in the Ivy. (Lionwatcher) The Big Green went 8-8, ouch yes, that's 8-8 last year. They probably don't deserve a preseason Top 20 ranking with that kind of 2009 record! Enough said ... big, strong, fast - show us some Top 10 wins! (MDLaxManiac) #17. Its hard to count any Amy Patton team down and out. (mytwokeepers) Most starters back from a team that was better than its 8-8 record last year. Penn cannot be looking forward to its trip to Hanover. (slides2) Big Green should bounce back from a mediocre 2009 campaign. (socrlaxdad) The Tom Green Show. How could I not use it? But will the Green have more than quirky wins and rafterman posts? (UnderArmourOdor) Soylent Green is people! (with thanks to Detective Robert Thorn, a character in Soylent Green). (WLaxinator) Ohio State: The Buckeyes welcome back Brittney Zerheusen after missing her last season, that addition makes for a potent attack that includes Maghan Beaudrault, Alayna Markwordt, and Kelly Haggerty. If the cage is secured early on, the Midwest battles could be phenomenal. (draw18) Young team will improve on 11-6; should pass PSU. (Glaxrdaddy) The Buckeyes have come a long way in a short time, but staying there is much harder. No longer a sleeper team, opponents will be armed for bear. (Go Team) #13 - The Buckeyes were rather low profile last season, and people didn't pay much attention to them until the end of the season. I think they can take W&M in the season opener before a key road game vs. Stanford in their fourth game. I like their schedule in that they only play top 15 opponents consecutively once during the season. (Regular season record prediction: 12-4). (johnnyboy) I like the Buckeyes ... I think they will surprise some teams. (LadyLaker) #15 Returning 332/378 points. Last year's GAA on high side at 10.70. (laxamerica) Ohio State surprised everyone by finishing 11-6 with a couple of key upsets. The Buckeyes lost three starters, including Goalie Gilwee and midfielders Hawes and Gysin but return nine of their top 10 scorers. Replacing Gilwee will be the biggest question facing Coach Stimmel with three inexperienced goalies on the roster. (Laxword) The Buckeyes rebounded last year, and, but for having to replace a goalie (no easy task), bring back most of the cast. OSU were Angels and Deamons in 2009, challenging both the Terp (1 goal) and Heels (2 goal) in losses and beating the Dores, but losses to Penn State (twice) late marred an otherwise good campaign. (Lionwatcher) 11-6 last year with the two 4-goal losses to Penn State. Other four losses were to Top 6 teams. One of the surprise teams of 2009, can they pick-up where they left off? (MDLaxManiac) #20. A bounce-back year. (mytwokeepers) They will miss Gilwee more than they know. (novaglax) Very weak schedule will give the Buckeyes a nice record but with little substance. Three ranked teams all season is not worthy of anything beyond saying "we have a winning record." I give them #16 in preseason only because of their freshmen and sophomores, who may propel them out of the first round of the ALC. (Seinfeld) Most starters back from a young team that had flashes of excellence last season. (slides2) Buckeyes will be road-tested by early March. (socrlaxdad) The Ellen Degeneres Show. Never seen them play but they are doing something right out West. (UnderArmourOdor) My #15: You must have discipline to have fun (with thanks to Julia Child, chef, author, and television personality). (WLaxinator) Towson: With Hillary Fratzke back for the Tigers, Towson will look to be even stronger as they defend the CAA title. Nikki Marcinik is back to complement Fratzke, who will be an impact player right away for the Tigers. Look for a triple in 2010 as Towson hopes to be not just hosting the final weekend, but also playing in it. (draw18) Fratzke is back ... and so is Marcinik. The Tigers could start three freshmen. Solid at goal, but defense needs to rebuild just like last year. (Go Team) #16 - Fratzke is the wild card. Will she return to play midfield after her season-ending injury in 2009. If she plays attack, her impact on the field is somewhat diminished IMO because her blazing speed in the open field created so many opportunities for her and the Tigers. Hope she comes back 100%, because it is the difference between being the 1st place team in the conference instead of the 3rd place team. (Regular season record prediction: 12-4). (johnnyboy) Out of my Top 20, but I still think they will get there. (LadyLaker) #16 Grad. 146/338 points. Good between the pipes. (laxamerica) Towson loses four senior starters, including two of their top three scorers and All-American defender Julie Ondrako but regains All-American midfielder Hillary Fratzke, who returns from an injury for her fifth year. A tough early schedule may hurt the Tigers ranking but will prepare Towson for the CAA run. (Laxword) The return of that Law Abiding Citizen, Hillary Fratzke, should reinvigorate the Tigers and make up for the loss of two top scorers. Should compete for the CAA title, but is there more? (Lionwatcher) 13-6 last year with four losses against the four ranked teams they played in addition to W&M and ODU. They are the CAA champs and voted to repeat. Will they go any further? They lost two starters to graduation. Should be right back in it. (MDLaxManiac) #16. Probably ranked too low. I think Hillary Fratzke will have a huge year. (mytwokeepers) Hillary Fratzke given another chance after losing last season to injury, but big guns Ondrako and McNamara have graduated. (slides2) Tigers lead the CAA polls but with Fratzke back for one more year the 2009 champs could threaten the top 10. (socrlaxdad) The Whoopi Goldberg Show. Need to move up if they want to be the best show in Baltimore. (UnderArmourOdor) Enthusiasm moves the world (with thanks to Arthur James Balfour, politician). (WLaxinator) Cornell: With a strong core returning for the Big Red, including Libby Johnson, Jessi Steinberg, and Katie Kirk up front and Tissy O'Connor and Kristen Reese in the defense, Cornell is a steady team that will make a lot of noise in the Ivy. (draw18) Very young team last year and somewhat uneven. Will improve and should stay in the top 20. (Glaxrdaddy) Good enough for the 20-25 range. (Go Team) #24 - On my list because I feel like the Big Red are among the best of the rest. Not top 20 status but better than the other contenders. I see another season just like 2009. (Regular season record prediction: 9-5). (johnnyboy) I think the Big Red will be part of an incredibly competitive Ivy League this year. (LadyLaker) #19 Had only 183 points last year but graduated only 44. (laxamerica) I guess the Big Red are fourth in the Ivy and in the top 20, although I am one of those Men Who Stare at Goats. When we get up here, your guess is as good as mine (and probably better). (Lionwatcher) They were 9-7 last year, lost to Harvard, lost to every ranked opponent, and were held to single digit offense while opponents scored double digits on their defense? (MDLaxManiac) #11. I really like the cohesion and toughness this team showed last year and believe they will carry on. (mytwokeepers) Tissy O'Connor a force in midfield. (slides2) Tough for the Big Red to crack the Ivy League top 3 ... but they should qualify for the first-ever Ivy League championship tournament. (socrlaxdad) The Arsenio Hall Show. Need to come out gangbusters and not get the hook early. (UnderArmourOdor) Penn State: This is a veteran team which will outperform the pre-season predictions. (DallasLaxDad) The Lions were hurt with a loss to injury in the fall, but PSU still has a large cupboard, starting with Stephanie Ellis in the cage. Add Margo Josephs and Ashley Boccio in the defense and Teresa Bucci and Maria Valderas in the midfield, and State will have a solid season. Look for Jen Steadman and Erica Mihm to pick up some of the scoring. (draw18) Graduation takes its toll at key positions. (Glaxrdaddy) Go to goal, Erica! The Lions take on Loyola 2/14. (Go Team) #19 - I want to put the Nittany Lions higher because I think the talent is there, but PSU needs to prove it to me on the scoreboard first. Otherwise, they will continue to be the best team with the most mediocre W-L record. (Regular season record prediction: 11-5). (johnnyboy) This team has the talent. They just need to attack the goal, consistently and relentlessly. If they can get past the "pass around the 8 for half the game" and shoot the ball, they can have some big wins. (LadyLaker) Penn State hopes to improve on last year’s 9-8 season. While graduating 10 seniors, only four were starters (including Leading scorer Marisa Lozano and sparkplug Kerry Shea) and return their entire defense and seven of their top 10 scorers. (Laxword) Will they put the Happy back into Happy Valley this year? (Lionwatcher) #22. Talented, but ... (mytwokeepers) Lose top offensive players, but defense and goalkeeper return. (slides2) The Bonnie Hunt Show. I always enjoy seeing them but need some big ratings ... I mean wins. (UnderArmourOdor) They are such stuff as dreams are made (with thanks to William Shakespeare, writer). (WLaxinator) William & Mary: The Tribe made some noise in 2010 again, and Ashley Holofcener, Grace Golden, and Sarah Jonson are back for the College. W&M has won the regular season title the last couple of years, and they are looking to win the tournament and grab that berth to the NCAAs. (draw18) Coach Halfpenny should have this team raring to go and is usually in the final four for the CAA playoffs. (Go Team) #21 - On paper, W&M would look to be the favorite in the Colonial. I'm a skeptic when it comes to the Tribe because they seem to play to the level of their opponents, which provides opportunities for too many close losses. I hope they prove me wrong. (Regular season record prediction: 10-7). (johnnyboy) W&M is fast and uses the width/depth of the field to their advantage. (LadyLaker) #18 Grad. only 93/347 points. Last year's GAA weak at 12.52. (laxamerica) W&M finished 2009 with a 10-7 record including OT losses to BU and UVa and a loss to Towson in the CAA Tournament. The Tribe lost six seniors to graduation, including four starters, but return their top five scorers and goalie Geary. William & Mary plays a tough out-of-league schedule and should get an early tests against Ohio State and Duke. (Laxword) The Tribe have something returning which is Precious, their 6 top scorers and their goalie. This maybe a surprise team this year. (Lionwatcher) Last year they were 10-7, split games with Towson and lost when it really counted, and had OT wins over unranked. They lost three starters to graduation and were voted preseason #2 in CAA. Can they be better this year? (MDLaxManiac) #12. Offensive power and a strong defense spells a good year for Bill and Mary. (mytwokeepers) Most starters return on a team that should improve from 10-7 and could supplant Towson as CAA champs. (slides2) Tribe picked 2nd in CAA preseason poll. (socrlaxdad) Live with Regis and Kelly. The Tribe is fun to watch, but can they play with the big shows? (UnderArmourOdor) Every thing that is done in the world is done by hope (thanks to Martin Luther, Protestant religious leader). (WLaxinator) New Hampshire: I really like NH. (LadyLaker) Can they be the Cats that upset the Dogs in the AE? (Lionwatcher) Last year they were 12-7. They beat some good teams and lost to some good teams. Need to strengthen schedule with more Top 20 teams. New head coach may be just what they needed! (MDLaxManiac) Must replace best players. (slides2) James Madison: #20 Had a 5-11 record last year BUT lost 5 games by a total of 6 goals (2 in OT) and 7 games by a total of 13 goals (3 in OT). Grad. only 23% of their offense. Need to improve between the pipes. (laxamerica) I had to consult The Book of Eli, which said the Dukes are top 20, but I am not sure why. Time will tell. (Lionwatcher) 5-11 last year and three losses to unranked teams in OT. Lost to every ranked opponent and in addition had losses to Hofsta, UD, W&M, ODU, and GM! (MDLaxManiac) Relying on a few key individuals coming off major injuries. Depth may be a serious issue for the Dukes. (novaglax) Lopez Tonight w/ George Lopez. Sounds like both should be good but need to find some believers. (UnderArmourOdor) In this, your darkest hour, what do you see in the abyss: Crisis or opportunity? (with thanks to Winston Churchill, Prime Minister). (WLaxinator) Massachusetts: Very young team with a good chance to crack the top 20. Just don't count the first game, which should really be a pre-season scrimmage. (Glaxrdaddy) Worth a mention. Had some bright stops last year. (Go Team) #20 - The Minutemen will fatten up their record with Atlantic 10 conference wins and maybe a surprise or two out of conference. Either way they make the NCAA but need to rack up some good signature wins for better tournament seeding. (Regular season record prediction: 13-4). (johnnyboy) UMass Minute(women) to shine? (Lionwatcher) Lyons will be the leader of an emerging team. The coaching staff is doing wonders with that team. (novaglax) Denver: Don't underestimate great coaching. Liza Kelly always has her girls ready for a fight. (LadyLaker) #21. On a winning streak. (mytwokeepers) Fairfield: Unranked: The Stags probably won’t be ranked any time soon due to their SOS, but they are on the rise under coach Mike Waldvogel, finishing 17-3 and losing only to Yale (OT), Dartmouth, and Penn in the NCAAs. An encore may be tough, as Fairfield graduated six starters including four of their top six scorers and their goalie. (Laxword) Do they remain STAGnant, or do they continue to move onto the national scene? (Lionwatcher) 17-3 last year with losses to Yale (OT), the Big Green and 10-8 to Penn in the Sweet 16. Will take time to get Top 20-25 teams scheduled to play to upgrade SOS. (MDLaxManiac) Great success last season, but heavy graduation losses. (slides2) The Chris Rock Show. Lots of advance publicity but I’m not sold. (UnderArmourOdor) An army of deer would be more formidable commanded by a lion than a an army of lions commanded by a stag (proverb). (WLaxinator) Hofstra: Who will be in goal? The Pride have the offense. Can a new defense gel fast enough? Corrine Gandolfi does it all! (Go Team) #18 - I think the Pride are poised to lead the league with virtually the entire starting team returning. That continuity over two seasons gives Hofstra the edge in what I think will be a tight three team race with Towson and W&M in the Colonial. (Regular season record prediction: 12-4). (johnnyboy) Pride returning to Strong Island? (Lionwatcher) Yet another CAA team that may make some noise. (slides2) Oregon: I'm not quackers, I believe. The Ducks return top scorers Drummond and Breiner. (Go Team) #25. Strong seniors and depth may make for a quality year. (mytwokeepers) Rutgers: Hard nose lacrosse. They won't beat many finesse teams, but they can grind with most in the 15-20. (Go Team) #19. I liked them last year but too many close losses. Look to see improved results this year. (mytwokeepers) George Mason: Florida: Because everyone thinks so. (Go Team) Hey it's the Gator Nation! I love the enthusiasm and the "we have nothing to lose" attitude of many of the players. They could catch more than a few teams with their spandex pants down. (LadyLaker) Tough to rank a brand new team, but top facilities, an experienced coach, some transfers for leadership, and 24 dynamite freshmen make it worth a shot. Having an ex-Hobart laxer as your AD doesn't hurt either. (Laxword) Chelsea Lately. Never seen either but a lot of buzz. (UnderArmourOdor) Youth! youth! how buoyant are thy hopes; they turn, Like marigolds, toward the sunny side (with thanks to Jean Ingelow, poet and novelist). (WLaxinator) Boston College: My #20: Cinderella story -- Outta nowhere. A former greenskeeper, now, about to become a champion. It looks like a mirac ... It's in the net! It's in the net! It's in the net! (with thanks to Carl Spackler, a character in Caddyshack). (WLaxinator) Navy: #25 - Navy is probably not a top 25 team and don't think they'll even take the Patriot title (Bucknell will), but I'm anxious to see what Coach Timchal can do in her third season. (Regular season record prediction: 13-4). (johnnyboy) Those playing the Mids early in the season better be in shape! They will run you into the ground. Navy will end up in my Top 20. (LadyLaker) With 8 of first 9 games at home, Coach Timchal should have this team primed for a Patriot League title. (socrlaxdad) Other Teams Pollsters Considered (and comments, if any) Colgate: Old Dominion: Unranked: ODU came out of nowhere last year to go 11-5, upset Virginia, and play everyone tight. The Monarchs won’t sneak up on anyone this year and may find the road harder, as they graduated five starters and two of their top three scorers. (Laxword) Talk Soup. Nothing funny about playing them in Norfolk. (UnderArmourOdor) Jacksonville: I keep reading about the great fall some new team from Florida had, so I thought I had to put them in the poll. (DallasLaxDad) Saint Francis: The Red Flash won't end up the year in anyone's poll, but I believe this will be a breakthrough year for the program. (DallasLaxDad) Albany: #22 - If Albany can get good net play from their newcomers, they can put some pressure on BU and be my top 20 sleeper team. If not, then few will remember this comment by Memorial Day. (Regular season record prediction: 12-4). (johnnyboy) Louisville: #23 - Cardinals made a little noise last season and now have the benefit of the same squad playing together for two years. Will beat the cupcakes on their schedule and expect to see an upset or two. (Regular season record prediction: 11-6). (johnnyboy) Richmond: Unrated: Spiders have lots of talent but need leadership on the field. Can the new coach pull it all together to realize their potential in her first year? Playing Maryland, Duke, UNC, and UVa in February is a tough way to find out. (Laxword) Trouble is only opportunity in work clothes (with thanks to Henry J. Kaiser, industrialist). (WLaxinator) Cincinnati: #23. This is my wishful thinking pick. (mytwokeepers) Virginia Tech: #24. VT is ready to start making their way in the toughest conference in the country. (mytwokeepers) Temple: Johns Hopkins: The Magic Hour w/ Magic Johnson. Tough times for the Blue Jays. (UnderArmourOdor) The woman who is swimming against the stream knows the strength of it (with thanks to Woodrow Wilson, President). (WLaxinator) | |||||
