Pollsters' Comments About Teams They Ranked

Maryland: I just can't move the Terps ahead of the five-time defending champs when those defending champs are undefeated this year. Maybe The Force will be with the Terps at some point this year, but until then, they're no. 2. (DallasLaxDad) — The Terps have so many weapons, whether it is the scoring punch up front or the defensive presence of a Brittany Poist or Brittany Dipper. Don't overlook the defense while talking about the Terps. (draw18) — Cruising along in the top spot. Other than Penn and NC to open April, should continue. #1. (Glaxrdaddy) — Nice win this week Terps. Hoo would have thought? Up next is GMU and UNH. (Go Team) — #1 - Virginia tried to stall but merely delayed the inevitable. Any LP pollsters without Terps as #1 are also stalling the emergence of Terps at top of the poll. The fans don't like to see stalling in lacrosse. (johnnyboy) — MD stays at my #1 with convincing domination of Wahoos. (LadyLaker) — #1. I see the 15-10 win over the Hoyas by NU as a stumble, so MD moves up. (laxamerica) — Their slow starts may pose a problem in the future, but nobody's better in the second half than the Terps. Maybe they can work on that against George Mason and UNH this week. (Laxword) — Still clicking on all cylinders. (Lionwatcher) — The importance of "ONE" dates to Old Testament times, where in Deut. 6:4 it says, "Hear O Israel: the LORD our God, the LORD is ONE!" The translation into lacrosse, for those among who do not believe: Hear, O LaxPower: The Terps of Maryland, the TERPS are ONE! (Lucky Laxer) — Now 4-0! Fear the Turtle! Terps beat-up and shut down UVa 11-5 and send the Cavs for the long ride back to Hooville with a big loss. (MDLaxManiac) — #2. Maryland is my second place team, but they are making a persuasive argument for the top spot. Alas, the "Cats have not relinquished control. The Terps look like a team on a mission. (mytwokeepers) — #1. Run with the Terps and you lose; stall against the Terps and you still lose. (slides2) — Despite big ACC win over the Cavs I can't push the Terps past the #2 position ... at least for now. GMU and UNH should be the latest victims this week. (socrlaxdad) — Best Terps team since 2001. Really. (Turtles Lax) — The Oscar Edition: The Hang Over (Best Movie of the Year): That is what I had after a Friday Night Lights moment in College Park ... Terps are tops! (UnderArmourOdor) — Lions and tigers and bears! Oh, my! With thanks to Dorothy, The Wizard of Oz. (WLaxinator)

Northwestern: From what I saw in the Georgetown game, the defense is not what it was the last couple years; several Hoyas found themselves alone in the attack end of the field. There didn't seem to be the same Wildcat aggressive defense. But, still no destruction of the Death Star - so NU stays no. 1. (DallasLaxDad) — The Cats continue to get the job done behind Smith, Dowd and Spencer. Taylor Thornton is a wonderful addition to the squad as NU adds more quickly into the fold. This team wins with ball control and dictating what happens. (draw18) — Not exactly struggling, but did cede 10 to Hoyas. Teams seem to be getting better looks at the goal than in the past few years. #2. (Glaxrdaddy) — Standard Purple reign. (Go Team) — #2 - Cats working harder for Ws in 2010; put away Gtown to keep hold of my second spot. (johnnyboy) — Win over an up-and-down G-town keeps them at my #2. (LadyLaker) — Looks like it's Northwestern being chased by four ACC teams. (LAF1) — #2. I move MD ahead this week. (laxamerica) — Solid but not a dominating win over Georgetown. Duquesne will be the next sacrifice as the Wildcats prepare for a trip to Syracuse and the Dome on 3/21. (Laxword) — Giving up too many goals. Need to fine tune a bit. (Lionwatcher) — Yeah, yeah, yeah; what an injustice it is to be ranked #2! Cry me a river. (Lucky Laxer) — The 4-0 NU Wildcats pounce the Gtown Hoyas, 15-10, but we have a weakness in NU's GK and defense letting in more goals this year than ever before. (MDLaxManiac) — #1. Locked in first place are the Wildcats, who have done nothing to shake my first place vote. (mytwokeepers) — #2. Pass first major test against Georgetown. (slides2) — 'Cats continue to roll and hold my #1 slot. (socrlaxdad) — Defense perhaps suspect; still NU and still tough. (Turtles Lax) — The Oscar Edition of the LP Poll - Inglorious Basterds: You play Northwestern, you will take a beating but going there you want to say Nein, Nein, Nein! (UnderArmourOdor) — A tremor in the Force. The last time I felt it was in the presence of my old master. With thanks to Darth Vader, Star Wars. (WLaxinator)

North Carolina: The Tar Heels look real solid, but it may be April 10 before we know if they can move up from no. 3. (DallasLaxDad) — UNC is able to play with a mature, fast defense that is very frustrating for the opposition; it also helps when they have the ball off the draw and can stick it in the net with a multitude of attackers. (draw18) — Heels get a little payback for last year's drubbing, limit Penn to a single second-half goal, take over the Quaker's spot at #3. (Glaxrdaddy) — UNC moves up after defeating Penn. Penn might end up being the only Ivy in the top 20 this year. (Go Team) — #3 - Heels give Penn a dose of their own medicine by holding Quakers to 6 goals and are ready to move up should MD or NW falter. (johnnyboy) — Had Penn "quaking" in their boots! (LadyLaker) — #3. Nice win over Penn moves them up one slot. (laxamerica) — Impressive win over Penn to go to 6-0. Heels will try and extend that streak when they travel to Hoo'ville Saturday. (Laxword) — Big win against Penn says that the Heels are here to stay. (Lionwatcher) — Some numbers: 6-0, 100 goals scored, 36 given up, #3 rank ... With a week off to prep for UVa. (Lucky Laxer) — Now 6-0hhh my! UNC Tar Heels step all over the UPenn Quakers for a huge 11-6 upset! UNC continues to win and impress me this season! (MDLaxManiac) — #3. My number three team from last week removed any doubts in my mind with a very convincing win over UPenn. This year's Tar Heel team looks to be focused on the prize. (mytwokeepers) — #3. Show they are for real against Penn. (slides2) — 'Heels hanging tough as my #3 ... their first ACC road test comes this week at Charlottesville. (socrlaxdad) — Nice week. (Turtles Lax) — Avatar: These blue people didn’t need many special effects to win a battle as they showed Penn in Chapel Hill! (UnderArmourOdor) — Where you goin' city boy? With thanks to First Griner, Deliverance. (WLaxinator)

Duke: Was Princeton really that much a pushover for the Dookies - or was it the game against Maryland that was the aberration? I don't know, but I again am a believer in the Blue Devils - so, number 6. (DallasLaxDad) — As this team matures in the defense, it will only get better and better. Bullard is one of the most complete players in the game, and with the wealth of talent she has around her, this is a deep team. (draw18) — Had no problem dispatching Princeton. Next week's match with Hoyas will help bring some clarity to the rankings. #7. (Glaxrdaddy) — Duke is 5-1 with one huge loss to the Snappers. Up next is BU after their Boston train ride over W&M. (Go Team) — #5 - Duke bounces back after thrashing by the Terps to teach a thing or two to Princeton and improve record to 5-1. (johnnyboy) — Loses big to MD and beats a ho-hum Princeton team. (LadyLaker) — #6. Tough to make much of win over a weak Princeton. (laxamerica) — Nice win over the Tigers after being smothered by Maryland. Welcomes BU and Georgetown to Durham this week. (Laxword) — Nice recovery after the Shell lacking performance of last week. (Lionwatcher) — This is tough ... Who (not Hoo!) else deserves to be #4? I've got to look at ALL their wins, not just the one loss. (Lucky Laxer) — 5-1 now, the Duke Blue devils smack down the Princeton Tigers 15-6! (MDLaxManiac) — #6. As noted in my comments regarding UPenn, the five/six slots belonged to UPenn and Duke. The 17-4 spanking by Maryland pushed the Blue Devils down to #6. (mytwokeepers) — #4. Rebound nicely at Princeton. (slides2) — Best of several very good one-loss teams. Their reward for a big win at Princeton is hosting my #10 BU and #6 Hoyas this week. (socrlaxdad) — Bounced back. Nice win vs. a disinterested Princeton squad. (Turtles Lax) — Invictus: These people were also blue after some Terp discrimination but bounce back to skin the Cats! (UnderArmourOdor) — Hey, you wanna hear my philosophy of life? Do it to him before he does it to you. With thanks to Terry, On the Waterfront. (WLaxinator)

Penn: With some trepidation, I'm keeping the Quakers at no. 4 - I thought they'd knock off the Tar Heels. (DallasLaxDad) — Penn is a nice team that will come into its own as the season progresses; the talent here is not to be denied. Szelest is a fantastic keeper, and with Brennan, DeLuca and the like scoring at the other end, the Quakers will be right back. (draw18) — Heels basically took it to them all over the field. Loss of Spiro didn't help, but even so 11-5, while not a drubbing, is a statement. Drop a slot to #4. (Glaxrdaddy) — An early loss to UNC is nothing that the Quakers can't overcome. Now Penn knows where to improve. (Go Team) — #4 - Quakers traditional formula of better defense than opponents and enough offense to win did not work against the Heels. No change in my rankings as I already had UNC third. (johnnyboy) — Getting tar on their pants from the Heels has them down. (LadyLaker) — #5. Drops 2 places this week. (laxamerica) — Tough loss to the Tar Heels may knock the Quakers down a place or two but still the team to beat in the Ivy. Takes on Hofstra this week then Harvard to kick off the league play. (Laxword) — Ranked on hype? (Lionwatcher) — Is UNC that good or Penn not? Their two wins don't say that much, but does the loss say more? (Lucky Laxer) — Now 2-1 now with a shocking 5-11 loss to UNC! Wower Brower, what happened here?? (MDLaxManiac) — #5. UPenn lost convincingly to UNC but still come in fifth. It came down to UPenn or Duke for this spot, but Duke's spanking by the Terps drops them to #6. (mytwokeepers) — #5. Lack of attack trips up Quakers at UNC. (slides2) — Loss at UNC not a big surprise. Can the Quakers rebound when they host Hofstra and Harvard this week? I think so ... (socrlaxdad) — Simply wow! Ivies horrible this year ... all of 'em. (Turtles Lax) — The Princess and the Frog: The silver slipper didn’t fit down in Chapel Hill ... some games you kiss the frog! (UnderArmourOdor) — Look, what is it that you require of us? With thanks to Ed, Deliverance. (WLaxinator)

Georgetown: Really impressed with the Hoyas' performance against Northwestern - good goal tending, exceptional transition play, at least two odd-man rushes. The Hoyas may belong in the top 4, but for now, I'm keeping them behind Penn - so, #5. (DallasLaxDad) — The Hoyas have a number of options up front, with Jordy Kirr, Ashby Kaesnter, and Bunny O'Reilly, among others. Caitlin Formby's veteran presence in the cage will pay off dividends for GU. (draw18) — Did not hurt themselves vs. NU. Close at the half but didn't have an answer for Dowd. Stay at #6. (Glaxrdaddy) — Expected loss to NWU, so no change in my poll. (Go Team) — #6 - Hung with NW for a half but couldn't keep up after the break. Moving Hoyas down a spot. (johnnyboy) — Lost to NW. Still awaiting a signature win from the Hoyas. (LadyLaker) — #4. Did a better job against NU than Penn did against UNC. (laxamerica) — Non-embarrassing loss to Northwestern moves the Hoyas up as others drop around them. Season heats up and Hoyas head south to Florida and Duke this week followed by Maryland and UNC. (Laxword) — Gave up more then I though they would against the Cats but scored more too. (Lionwatcher) — Drop to #8 with the NWU loss. The Hop win seems to be dubious, so far. (Lucky Laxer) — 1-1 with a loss this week to NU 10-15, the good news is the Hoyas scored 10 goals on NU! The bad news is NU scored 15 on the Hoyas! (MDLaxManiac) — #4. Is a respectable loss to a team ranked above you cause for alarm? I don't think so, and there are only three other teams in the country I am confident that can beat G-T. The Hoyas get the nod over UPenn and Duke for the Four slot. (mytwokeepers) — Closer than I thought against Da Cats! (novaglax) — #6. Respectable showing against Northwestern. (slides2) — Hoyas gave the #1 'Cats a fair test. Now they head south to visit Florida and Duke this week. (socrlaxdad) — Solid effort vs. the Evil Empire. (Turtles Lax) — Coco before Chanel: Just sounds like a Georgetown film ... it may be a touch warmer in Gainesville than it was in Evanston! (UnderArmourOdor) — Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. With thanks to Princess Leia, Star Wars. (WLaxinator)

Virginia: It's tough to put a 3-2 team as high as #7 - but, I'm now convinced the Loyola loss was just a bad game. Wins over Syracuse and Penn State put the Cavs ahead of those two teams. (DallasLaxDad) — The Cavaliers appear to have righted the wrongs that had befallen them early in the season and are back on track. The goalie situation is still developing; as that comes to fruition the Hoos will be successful. (draw18) — Blitzed Penn State early and often and cruised to an easy 13-8 win. Move up to #8. (Glaxrdaddy) — Lost to the Terps. Was it coaching? The players never gave up. There is such a thing as a stall and then there's a Hoo dead stall. Handled Penn State and shot well on lighted side of the building. (Go Team) — #13 - Cavaliers second strong win over PSU a pleasant surprise. Resolving their goalie selection seems to have lifted this team. (johnnyboy) — A win and a loss. Wahoos need a wa-hoo-pa-loo-za win. (LadyLaker) — #8. A respectable effort this week against my #1 and a win over Penn State. (laxamerica) — Played a strong half against Maryland but couldn't find the net in the second half. Yeoman-like win over the Nittany Lions keeps the Hoos in place as others collapse. It doesn't get any easier against North Carolina and W&M this week. (Laxword) — Tried to slow down the Tortoise, but the Hare in there won out. Rebounded and left the Valley happy. (Lionwatcher) — Again, Hoo else deserves to be #6. Hoos hold Terps to lowest score of the year and take care of a pesky Penn State. I've got to forget about Loyola. (Lucky Laxer) — Now 3-2, UVa lost a big game to ACC rival UM Terps 5-11 and turned around and beat Penn State 13-8! They are in the running for the dubious team title of "Consistently Inconsistent for 2010". (MDLaxManiac) — #8. With a solid win over PSU, UVa regains my top 10 respect. Uncertainty in the goal seems to be resolved with Lauren Benner returning from injury. (mytwokeepers) — #7. Stall-ball fails at Maryland, but Hoos bounce back at Penn State. (slides2) — Cavs showed little offense in their loss at Maryland ... but bounced back against the Nittany Lions. They will need to hold that form when UNC comes to Charlottesville this week. (socrlaxdad) — What team shows up next? TL hopelessly confused by this team. Must consult LL and UAO. (Turtles Lax) — Star Trek: Being remade but it could be a rough ride ... crash on Planet Terp but survive Planet WeAre ... Scotty, I need more scoring power! (UnderArmourOdor) — The weekend has landed. With thanks to Jip, Human Traffic (this one is more for the fans than for the team). (WLaxinator)

Syracuse: The Orange are treading water with no games this week. Loss to Virginia keeps them below the Hoos. #9. (DallasLaxDad) — The Orange have so much talent up front in Ladoucer, Quillinan and the like; Hogan stands strong in the cage. As SU looks to hold people down while continuing to pump the ball in the cage, they will be much more successful. (draw18) — By not playing, Orange stay put. #5. (Glaxrdaddy) — Vermont up next week, and Towson makes a visit to the Cave in two weeks. Movie DVD to released called Twilight. (Go Team) — #7 - Orange were idle this week but should add a W over Vermont on Monday. (johnnyboy) — Rare off week has the Orangewomen treading water in the poll ... get playing or you'll sink! (LadyLaker) — #7. No action, no penalty. (laxamerica) — Early week off for the Orange. Takes on Vermont and Towson this week. (Laxword) — Took some time off and traveling south to play the Catamounts. (Lionwatcher) — The Orange stay at my #7; no games, no change. (Lucky Laxer) — Now 2-1, the Orange was idle this week. I hope they spent some serious time evaluating the loss to UVa at home last week, get back on track and prepare for the future! (MDLaxManiac) — #9. Syracuse's one loss is to UVa, so they settle in at the #9 spot. (mytwokeepers) — #8. Idle this past week. (slides2) — Orange follow up an off week with a Florida game vs. Vermont. (socrlaxdad) — No game(s) this week cost them a few spots. (Turtles Lax) — Transformers II: Took some abuse (like this movie did) for the Godfather’s third straight loss to Hoos, but they are big and scary when they get moving! (UnderArmourOdor) — What have you done lately? With thanks to Wesley, Wanted. (WLaxinator)

Boston University: The Duke game on Wednesday will show if the Terriers deserve this #8 vote. (DallasLaxDad) — The Terriers move silently along, taking care of business with each step. Xan Weitzel and Traci Landy combine well with Hannah Frey, while McKinley Curro and Rachel Klein are at the core of a solid defense. (draw18) — Terriers are winning but don't seem to have it together yet. Struggled against Mass and Brown, then looked to be picking up against a tough W&M. Up a slot to #12. (Glaxrdaddy) — Nice win vs. W&M. This team knows how to pass: 15 goals on 12 assists. Who said cutting to the cage doesn't work? (Go Team) — #8 - Terriers get a good win (out of conference, no less) over W&M to go 3-0. (johnnyboy) — Disbanded the Tribe. (LadyLaker) — #9. Non impressive win over Brown and nice win over W&M. (laxamerica) — Solid win over W&M after surprisingly close one over Brown. Still note sure how good the Terriers are, but games at Duke and Vandy this week may tell. (Laxword) — Terriers get two nice wins. Tough week coming up which serve to define the season. (Lionwatcher) — The Dogs took care of business with my beloved Tribe. Are they for real? Is anyone other than the top 3? (Lucky Laxer) — 2-0 with a 9-5 win over Brown gets me concerned about how they will handle future ranked teams. (MDLaxManiac) — #7. Nice win over the Tribe cements #7. (mytwokeepers) — #9. Quality win against William & Mary; Terriers can still bite without Dalton. (slides2) — Still undefeated Terriers crack my top 10 ... and have a tough week ahead on the road at Duke and Vandy. (socrlaxdad) — First time in TL's Top 20. Big move this week. TL underestimated them ... obviously. (Turtles Lax) — Nine: well need I say more ... singing and dancing in Mass! (UnderArmourOdor) — Bill: I thought that was rather clever of me. Connie: Yes, I thought you thought so. With thanks to Bill Chandler and Connie Allenbury, Libeled Lady. (WLaxinator)

Stanford: The Cardinal rest at number 14 with no games for the next couple weeks. (DallasLaxDad) — The Cardinal have shown they are not to be forgotten with strong performances against a nice schedule thus far. Having Foard as another option up front will only make them stronger; Annie Read continues to impress in the back. (draw18) — Moving up to #13 with big win over Vandy. Maryland then Towson in two weeks will tell whether they belong this high. #13 for now. (Glaxrdaddy) — Stanford has now beat Ohio State and Vandy to move to #9. Off for a week and then they tackle Cincy, MD and Towson. (Go Team) — #10 - If the Cardinal can take MPSF without a blemish, will OSU and Vandy wins be enough to make NCAA tournament, or do they need a win over MD or Towson too? (johnnyboy) — No dispensation for the Commodores from the Cardinal. (LadyLaker) — #11. Two wins this week, including nice win over Vandy. (laxamerica) — Cardinal moves up with convincing win over Vanderbilt so takes the next week off. (Laxword) — Moving up with others losing. Nice win against the Commodores. (Lionwatcher) — The best of the West, building cred. with the Vandy win. (Lucky Laxer) — Now 4-2, the Cardinals beat Wildcats! Stanford Cardinals pick apart the Davidson Wildcats, 19-7, then sinks the Vandy Commodores, 14-9. They are moving up in my poll! (MDLaxManiac) — #13. In my mind, beating Vanderbilt is a huge win for Stanford. (mytwokeepers) — #12. Beat Vandy and stay on the radar screen. (slides2) — The Cardinal have been one of the busiest teams early on ... and they head into a two week break with a big win at Vandy. (socrlaxdad) — Valiant effort vs. NU. Winning effort vs. Davidson. A very good week. (Turtles Lax) — An Education: What they gave the 'Dores out West! (UnderArmourOdor) — You can thank me later. It's later. With thanks to Leigh Anne Touhy, The Blind Side. (WLaxinator)

Towson: With a 2-0 record, the Tigers begin the second 10. (DallasLaxDad) — Finally, the Tigers are on the field. No one has been waiting longer than Hillary Fratzke, and she's back. With a veteran leader and talent up and down the field, Towson is not about to let their CAA title leave them. (draw18) — Got a late start, but spent the week taking care of business at UMBC 15-7 and surprising Loyola 14-10, onto the top 20 at #18. (Glaxrdaddy) — I have never seen a Towson team with such depth. Frosh Demski on defense never blinks. Frosh mid Waldron starts out with two hat tricks. Hopkins up next for the Queens of Charles Street Crown. (Go Team) — #9 - Tigers avenge loss from 2009 and can establish themselves as the top team in Baltimore with a win over Hopkins next week. (johnnyboy) — Good wins this week. On-field speed has people talking about these Tigers as dangerous. (LadyLaker) — #12. Started play with two solid wins this week and moves up 3 slots in my poll. (laxamerica) — Not much of a season so far for 2-0 Towson but good way to start with upset over Loyola. Tigers make up for lost time facing Hopkins, GW and Syracuse this week. (Laxword) — Strong start to the season. (Lionwatcher) — Takes care of west Baltimore and southern Charles St. after taking the first six weeks off. They're slightly behind behind JMU right now, but the CAA looks like fun this year! (Lucky Laxer) — 2-0 Towson Tigers had adog-gone great first week. First they takes a big bite out of the UMBC Dawgs 15-7 then take another big bite out of the the Loyola Hounds 14-10! Maybe everyone should wait to start playing in March? (MDLaxManiac) — #10. The Tigers looked very good, and VERY fast, in beating Loyola. (mytwokeepers) — #10. Just a hunch that, led by the rejuvenated Fratzke, this team may be Top 10 material. (slides2) — These Tigers are undefeated and should stay that way against Hopkins and GW this week. (socrlaxdad) — Fratzke back. Attagirl. Doherty has them playing smart and hard. (Turtles Lax) — Up: These Tigers on the way up with win over Hounds! (UnderArmourOdor) — What beastly luck! Thanks to Shere Khan, Jungle Book. (WLaxinator)

Notre Dame: Two unconvincing wins and a loss to Dartmouth - the Irish are falling fast. Maybe an easy test against California will help the Irish right the ship before the BU game in two weeks. #16. (DallasLaxDad) — As the Irish develop, they will find their niche and produce. With veterans like Kailene Abt and Maggie Tamasitis leading the way, ND will right itself and inch back up. (draw18) — Wow, did not see 12-8 loss to Dartmouth coming. My final 4 pick sliding down to #9. (Glaxrdaddy) — ND had a tough loss against Dartmouth-down in the polls. One-goal win over Hofstra and beat the Dukes by 5. It's hard to hang with just one GK. Shame on them. (Go Team) — #14 - Irish drop big game to Dartmouth and drop out of my top 10. (johnnyboy) — #10. Drops 2 slots with loss to Dartmouth. (laxamerica) — Questions grow after loss to Dartmouth and underwhelming wins over Hofstra and Duquesne. (Laxword) — Dropped a bit on the loss to the Green. Is that performance an aberration, or do they have to worry in South Bend? (Lionwatcher) — The Irish drop with the loss to Dartmouth and no big wins. (Lucky Laxer) — Now 2-1, the Green and Gold Irish lost to the Big Green of Dartmouth 12-8 this week. (MDLaxManiac) — #15. (mytwokeepers) — #13. Offense embarrassingly inept against Dartmouth. (slides2) — Irish suffer first home loss in their new stadium ... this week they head to the left coast to take on the Golden Bears. (socrlaxdad) — Beaten by a bad Dartmouth team. Oops. (Turtles Lax) — The Blind Side: I didn’t see the loss to the Green coming in South Bend! (UnderArmourOdor) — See this? This is this. This ain't something else. This is this. From now on, you're on your own. With thanks to Michael, The Deer Hunter. (WLaxinator)

Dartmouth: Lost to New Hampshire, beat Notre Dame, so the Big Green are between them at 12. (DallasLaxDad) — Dartmouth showed the talent it has and the ability to be able to work together. This veteran team can score and can play defense, led by a talent in Kristen Goldberg and Julie Wadlund. This could be the beginning of a breakout for the Big Green. (draw18) — Huge win over Vermont, 22-2, followed by domination of Notre Dame gets the Green some respect. Moving up 3 slots to #2 in the Ivies and #10 overall. (Glaxrdaddy) — #12 - Green needed no luck to get big road win over Irish and stay in my top 15. (johnnyboy) — #13. What have you done for me today-a BIG WIN. Moves up 5 slots. (laxamerica) — Didn't see that one coming, as the Green surprise the Irish. Not sure if the game says more about Dartmouth or ND but will give Dartmouth the credit for now. Columbia next to start the Ivy. (Laxword) — Make movement in the right direction with the beat-down of the Irish. I need to see some more before I move them into the top 20. (Lionwatcher) — The "BIG" GREEN takes out the Irish "Green". I'm forgiving for the UNH first-game loss, especially with the way UNH is playing. (Lucky Laxer) — Now 2-1, the Dartmouth Big Green takes out its frustration from last week's loss to NH Wowcats on unranked Vermont and unleashes an NU style 22-2 offensive storm and defensive assault. Also takes down Notre Dame. (MDLaxManiac) — #14. Quality win over Notre Dame makes me reevaluate Dartmouth and move them to #14. (mytwokeepers) — #11. Move up with impressive win at Notre Dame. (slides2) — Big Green hand the Irish their first loss of the season and now get a week off ... Spring Break anyone? (socrlaxdad) — District 9: Ivy League starting to look like shanty town but Green women strike a blow! (UnderArmourOdor) — Either I'm dead right, or I'm crazy! With thanks to Jefferson Smith, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (and rafterjack). (WLaxinator)

Penn State: Still a believer in the Nittany Lions despite the 3-2 record. The losses are to Maryland and Virginia, so I'm putting PSU at lucky 13. (DallasLaxDad) — The Nittany Lions are a good team that can produce. Molly Fernandez has been a huge spark for PSU, who add Jackie Eastman and Erica Mihm and the rest of a deep bench. The Nittany Lions need to use this as motivation to not let it happen again. (draw18) — Loss to Cavs was expected, made it a game. #17. (Glaxrdaddy) — Expected loss against the Hoos. How they do against Delaware can keep up or move them down in this poll. (Go Team) — #16 - Nittanies didn't show up for the UVa game until half-time, but by then it was too late ... and too late to stay in my top 10. (johnnyboy) — #15 Move up due to multiple worse losses above them. (laxamerica) — Not much luck against the ACC but 3-2 start keeps the valley happy as will a trip to Delaware on Saturday. (Laxword) — Ranked based on reputation? Need to see some wins. (Lionwatcher) — Molly Fernandez took all the best from THE U to State College. Don't miss a chance to watch her and don't listen to anyone that says "you're too small" to play D1! Girl's got heart and game ... This is the best PSU has looked in the last four years. I still hate Helluva Hall ... But the Creamery, that's another story! (Lucky Laxer) — Now 3-2, the Nittany Lions lost to UVa 8-13. (MDLaxManiac) — #12. (mytwokeepers) — #15. Can't play with the big girls, but still deserves to be in 2nd Ten. (slides2) — The Nittany Lions are 0-2 against the ACC at home. Now they go on a 3 game road stretch needing wins ... starting at Delaware this week. (socrlaxdad) — Confused by this team, too. Rumor has it Nielsen suiting up; alias yet unknown. (Turtles Lax) — Crazy Heart: N’Lions show heart as they stage a comeback against Hoos but going down 8-0 is crazy, particularly in the Hullabaloo Hall where they play so well! (UnderArmourOdor) — This will take brains, not brawn. With thanks to Bagheera, Jungle Book. (WLaxinator)

New Hampshire: 4-0 record, including a win over Dartmouth, so the top 10 is bookended with Wildcats. (DallasLaxDad) — The Wildcats are looking to return to the nation's elite, and with the many scorers that UNH has, it's looking good in Durham. Kate Gunts is a nice keeper who is also getting the job done. (draw18) — Undefeated and well-coached, moving into the top 20 at #19. (Glaxrdaddy) — Positive direction right now. Harvard, MD and Florida up next. (Go Team) — #11 - Cats showing their claws early at 4-0 including wins over New England rivals UMass and Dartmouth. (johnnyboy) — Litlle ole team from a little ole state is making BIG noise! And I like it! (LadyLaker) — Getting it done. (laxamerica) — The other Wildcats just keep on winning. May come to an abrupt end as they play Harvard and Maryland this week. (Laxword) — Other Cats moving in the right direction. (Lionwatcher) — Again, I'm giving my rankings to teams that are WINNING! I DON'T CARE about their pedigree or lack thereof! (Lucky Laxer) — 4-0 NH takes down UMass 11-8 and then Colgate 16-11. While these opponents are unranked, NH moves up this week. (MDLaxManiac) — #11. Doing everything asked of them. Their win over Dartmouth takes on added meaning after Dartmouth defeated Notre Dame. (mytwokeepers) — #14. Strong start punctuated by win over Dartmouth. (slides2) — 4-0 Wildcats could be 5-0 when they take on Maryland in College Park this weekend. (socrlaxdad) — Top 20 next week with a win(s). Perhaps should've had them there this week? (Turtles Lax) — The Lovely Bones: Keep on winning up north, and we may need CSI to see how high they can climb! (UnderArmourOdor) — With enough courage, you can do without a reputation. With thanks to Rhett Butler, Gone With the Wind. (WLaxinator)

Vanderbilt: The Commodores are coming into their own. Ally Carey is one of the top players in the nation and the rest of the team is looking to her lead. Vandy has played a tough schedule so far, and that baptism by fire will be just what they need by the end of the season. (draw18) — Upset loss to Stanford drops Vandy 3 slots to #14. (Glaxrdaddy) — Loss to Stanford drops them a spot. West Coast jet lag? (Go Team) — #18 - Commodores are sinking in my rankings. (johnnyboy) — Commodores - tons of talent but ship seems stalled. (LadyLaker) — #14 Only stay at 14 as Princeton and Loyola drop. (laxamerica) — Give points to Vanderbilt for a tough early schedule, but you have to win the ones you are supposed to. Another loss may knock the 'Dores off with BU coming to town on Saturday.. (Laxword) — The Cardinal sunk their battleship. I was expecting more. (Lionwatcher) — Now 1-3, the Vanderbilt Commodores loss to Stanford sends them down the river and down in the poll a few spots. (MDLaxManiac) — #21. Out of Top 20 with 1-3 start. (slides2) — The 1-3 'Dores have lost to every ranked team they've faced this season - so the prospect of hosting my #8 BU (plus Longwood) this week may be a bit daunting. (socrlaxdad) — Up in the Air: Not sure about the Commodores season, as the ship has run aground with loss to CardinalIndianTrees! (UnderArmourOdor) — We have ... GOT ... to get organized! With thanks to Officer Norman Jones, The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming. (WLaxinator)

Princeton: I know one of the losses was to Duke, but the Tigers also lost to Rutgers and belong below them in the poll. With Rutgers, BC, and Louisville all a similar 4-0, the Tigers fall completely off my ballot - a long fall from my pre-season #4. (DallasLaxDad) — Bad loss to Rutgers and a big loss to Duke (where's the defense?) moves the Tigers down to #11. (Glaxrdaddy) — #22 - Tigers drop from my top 20 - they seem to have too many holes in their game at the present time as shown in losses to Rutgers and Duke. (johnnyboy) — Barely in my Top 20. (LadyLaker) — #19 Free fall. Barely stays in my top 20 and drop out without convincing win over Brown next weekend. (laxamerica) — 1-2 Tigers slide as youth and inexperience showed in losses to Rutgers and Duke. (Laxword) — Based on this week's performance, they are over-rated or rated based upon reputation. Thinking that they need to right the ship quickly. (Lionwatcher) — Now starting at 0-2, the Princeton Tigers have stumbled coming out of the gate this season with back-to-back losses to unranked Rutgers and Duke and it hurts them big-time in this week's ranking to the bottom of the Top 20 in my poll. (MDLaxManiac) — #22. Chris Sailor's crew is heading down river. (mytwokeepers) — #18. This is a youngish team that is taking some knocks but should get better as season goes on. (slides2) — Tigers uncharacteristically suffer 2 home losses in one week, so they drop out of my top 10. They should be able to climb back to.500 with a trip to Brown this week. (socrlaxdad) — How the mighty have fallen. TL is actually kinda sad. (Turtles Lax) — The Hurt Locker: No winner in New Jersey, as this could be about whole Ivy League as Tigers get blown up at home! (UnderArmourOdor) — Stay in school and use your brain. Be a doctor, be a lawyer, carry a leather briefcase. Forget about sports as a profession. Sports make ya grunt and smell. See, be a thinker, not a stinker. With thanks to Apollo Creed, Rocky. (WLaxinator)

Loyola: Losses to Denver and Towson, plus an overall 2-3 record, dropped the Greyhounds off my ballot. (DallasLaxDad) — The Hounds are a great team; they have talent all over the fields, starting with Kerry Stoothoff in the cage and going right up the middle to Emily Gibson. Loyola has the experience and will turn it around. (draw18) — Don't know what to make of the Hounds. Losses to Denver and then Towson highlighted by some serious defensive breakdowns. #15. (Glaxrdaddy) — Still a good team here. I said they would lose some early games, and they have. They just haven't found out how to play as a team yet. Loyola was gassed playing Towson. They might need some conditioning, hear that LGL? Up next is the Fighting Blue Hens 4:00 pm Tues. 3/09. (Go Team) — #19 - Hounds having tough time reestablishing themselves as an elite team - I see them with a 9-8 or 10-7 record at season's end. (johnnyboy) — Loss to Denver has Hounds crashing in altitude on my poll. Need consistency. (LadyLaker) — #17 A rough week with two tough losses,; drop 5 places in my poll. (laxamerica) — The Hounds are falling as quickly as they rose with losses to Denver and Towson. Delaware and Cornell coming up and Loyola needs to win both. (Laxword) — Is the bloom off the rose in Baltimore? Need to turn things around quickly. (Lionwatcher) — Now 2-3, Loyola has two big losses this week, at OT loss to unranked Denver 12-13 and then a 10 to 14 loss to the cross-town Towson Tigers. That hurt them in the rankings. (MDLaxManiac) — #20. This Loyola team is playing very confused and very inconsistently. Two losses and two ACL injuries may lead to their fall from the top 20. For this week they hold on to #20. (mytwokeepers) — #16. Not sure why I have them this high, but this team still has what it takes to be a mover and shaker. (slides2) — 'Hounds stumbled and tumbled last week - including their first home loss. This week marks the end of an era when they host Delaware for the last game at Diane Geppi-Aikens Field. (socrlaxdad) — Southbound and down. Very disappointed in 'Hounds. If you can't play hard for Jen Adams, just don't play!!! (Turtles Lax) — Sherlock Holmes: They may need him to find out where their game has gone before we write off the Hounds of the Baltiville. (UnderArmourOdor) — You could always come back. With thanks to Billy, The Champ. (WLaxinator)

William & Mary: This is a solid team that can do great stuff. Grace Golden, Mary Zulty and the like are explosive in the offense, while Sarah Jonson centers a very nice defense. The Tribe knows each other, and that veteran playing experience will come in handy. (draw18) — Loss to BU, down to #20. (Glaxrdaddy) — W&M is playing as well as they can. The Tribe should sink Navy's 6-0 ship on 3/10. My prediction is 15-9. (Go Team) — #20 - Tribe's trip to Boston didn't amount to a hill of beans and drops in my rankings. (johnnyboy) — #16 Only stable in my poll due to losses above. (laxamerica) — The 2-2 Tribe are winning and losing the ones they are supposed to, so still hanging around while others falter. The trend may continue this week against Navy and Virginia. (Laxword) — Drop a little based on the loss to the Terriers, but not too much. (Lionwatcher) — Tribe, Vandy, Princeton and Loyola: all may yet have good years, but show me the Ws! I expect at least three of these four to be back in the thick of things very soon, replacing some of the "newbies" by taking care of business with solid wins against top competition. (This is not to fault the newbies, they can ONLY PLAY the teams on their schedule.) (Lucky Laxer) — At 2-2, the Tribe lost to BU 10-15. (MDLaxManiac) — #18. The loss to Boston University helps me better understand where W&M is in the pecking order. (mytwokeepers) — #17. Tribe taken down a peg after loss to BU. (slides2) — The 2-2 Tribe are allowing 14.5 goals/game so they have a huge test at 7-0 Navy where the Mids average more than 17 goals/game. (socrlaxdad) — Expected more vs. BU. (Turtles Lax) — Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince: Still can't find the magic to upset a top 10 team like BU! (UnderArmourOdor) — I said STAB, not TICKLE! With thanks to Sgt. Mulcahy, Glory. (WLaxinator)

Rutgers: Rutgers moves into the top 20 with an impressive start. (D-Lax) — Wins this week over Princeton and Delaware, plus an unbeaten 4-0 record, and the Scarlet Knights move to 18. (DallasLaxDad) — The Scarlet Knights are not content with being an afterthought in the Big East, and Kristen Anderson and Brooke Cantwell are making sure of it. Lily Kalata is having a phenomenal debut in the cage, and as long as she stays hot, so do the Scarlet Knights. (draw18) — The SK's have had some nice wins. This 4-0 team plays Hofstra 3/13. This should be a high scoring OT game. I predict Rutgers in OT, 15-14. (Go Team) — #15 - Princeton and Cornell's subsequent losses take some of the luster off those two Knight's victories, but I'm guessing Coach Laura Brand-Sias is quite happy with a 4-0 start. (johnnyboy) — Scarlet Knights crush their NJ neighbors and then their DE ones. Who's next? (LadyLaker) — #21 Have already knocked off two top 20 teams, one more solid win pushes them into my top 20. (laxamerica) — Not sure if the 4-0 Scarlet Knights are ready to challenge for the Big East championship but on a roll with one-goal wins over Princeton and Delaware. Takes on St. Joe's and dangerous Hofstra. (Laxword) — Move into my top 20 with the upset of the Tigers. (Lionwatcher) — They are winning, and I hate putting "name" teams with losing records ahead of the new kids on the block! Kalata 7.75 GAA, .617 SP. Until something changes they're getting respect from me! (Lucky Laxer) — The Scarlet Knights of Rutgers are unranked and have pulled off two huge wins this week, and they have entered the Twilight Zone, two games in one week with the same 12-11 score in both games! Now that is really freaky! Monumental win over Princeton and a great win over Delaware! The Cinderella team of 2010?? (MDLaxManiac) — #16. First Princeton, then Delaware ... these two wins earn Rutgers lots of respect. #16. (mytwokeepers) — #24. Impressive start for team down in the dumps one year ago. (slides2) — The Scarlet Knights are off to their best start in 20 years at 4-0. 6-0 looks very doable with St Joe's and Hofstra on tap this week. (socrlaxdad) — Continue to impress. Top 10 now. But very, very tough schedule awaits. MUST beat Loyola on 16th or in large trouble. (Turtles Lax) — The Messenger: They are coming up! (UnderArmourOdor)

Ohio State: The Buckeyes are a great collection of solid attack behind Haggerty and Markwordt; Capuzzi and Beard anchor a great defense. Throw in a Beaudrault and you have the makings of a team that can beat you all over the field. (draw18) — Almost took Stanford in OT. This is a tough team. #16. (Glaxrdaddy) — Plays Louisville of the Big East on 3/13, which may be a lasting shot for a top 20 ranking. NU looms on 3/24. (Go Team) — #21 - Game vs. Louisville next week may determine if Buckeyes return or are replaced by Cardinals in my top 20. (johnnyboy) — #18. (laxamerica) — Not sure if they belong in the top 20, but time will tell. (Lionwatcher) — Now 3-2, the OS Buckeyes beat up Duquesne 16-6 this week. (MDLaxManiac) — #21. Single-goal losses to William & Mary and Stanford leave the Buckeyes just outside the top 20. (mytwokeepers) — #19. Still looking for quality win. (slides2) — Buckeyes have three wins against the unranked teams and two close road losses against ranked teams - so they are just 4 goals short of being 5-0 and having a top 10 ranking. They may get there if they can figure out how to close out tough games. (socrlaxdad) — The Last Station: Hold the last rung in the poll, need to catch someone for a signature win! (UnderArmourOdor) — Nobody knows whether a person's good or bad but the person themselves. And they won't tell. With thanks to Dorothy Haley, Bad Girl. (WLaxinator)

Denver: The Pioneers keep winning; now 6-2, with a couple weeks off ahead of them, they should be ranked this week. I've got them at 15. (DallasLaxDad) — Held on to beat Loyola. The play Rutgers 3/20. If they beat Rutgers, they will be in my top 20. (Go Team) — Big statement win vs. Loyola and a win against Holy Cross. (LadyLaker) — Unranked: The 6-2 Pioneers finally achieved that "quality" win out West with their upset of Loyola. One more and they may land on the island. (Laxword) — #2 in the West. No big wins, but six of them against a loss to Duke. Balanced attack with four averaging thee pts. or better per game. (Lucky Laxer) — #20. Get nod for upset of Loyola. (slides2) — Pioneers on a roll. (Turtles Lax) — UNRANKED. Win against Loyola impressive. Long wait to see what happens against Rutgers. (WLaxinator)

Navy: The Mids keep winning. Despite the strength of schedule argument, they belong in the poll at 7-0. I've got them at 17. (DallasLaxDad) — Unranked: While the Mids may be 7-0, it has been against a very weak schedule with the Strength of Schedule ranking of 85 out of 91. W&M will be a good test this week to see how far Navy has come. (Laxword) — SEVEN AND O gets them #21! Maybe the wins were against the seven lowest RPI schools in the world: they are still 7-0! If they take down my Tribe, I promise to vote them higher! I won't like it if they win, but being the fair and diplomatic pollster that I am, I'll have no choice. (Lucky Laxer) — First team with 7 wins - the Mids' first real test of the season comes this week when they host William & Mary. (socrlaxdad) — Still undefeated. That counts a lot. And would shell every Ivy. Yep, all of them. (Turtles Lax)

Louisville: Also 4-0, the Cardinals deserve a no. 20 vote on this ballot - we'll see if they belong when they play Ohio State on Saturday. (DallasLaxDad) — #23 - Upstart Cardinals at 4-0 poised to take on mightier foe in OSU next week and maybe get that first quality win. (johnnyboy) — Unranked: Not yet ready to anoint 4-0 Louisville, as they have yet to beat a team with a winning record, much less a ranking. A win against Ohio State this week could go a long way on that road. (Laxword) — FOUR AND O! Yeah, beating the Ducks in Oregon is the only "big" win, but let me repeat: FOUR AND 0! For now, this gets them #20! (Lucky Laxer) — UNRANKED. A win against Ohio State could be a season changer. (WLaxinator)

James Madison: 3-0, with wins over an ACC team and an Ivy team - in the first draft of my ballot, I had the Dukes at 19, but in the end I couldn't justify keeping them in over Boston College and Louisville. If this were a top 25 poll, I'd have them at 21. (DallasLaxDad) — Plays Fairfield 3/09. The winner may climb into the top 20. (Go Team) — #24 - Quietly, the Dukes start 3-0 and have a chance to make some noise with tougher opposition ahead. (johnnyboy) — Got it done against a weak Yale team. (laxamerica) — Unranked: While the Dukes have been largely written off this year, they are off to a 3-0 start and may be lurking in the weeds for an upset. They have the schedule to pull it off and rise from the dead with a couple of key wins. Fairfield this week could be an interesting game for both teams. (Laxword) — Numbers: 3-0, 39 goals scored, 9 allowed. Morgan Kelly with over .720 SP. Another dog is having its day! Even if no one else thinks it ... yet! (Lucky Laxer) — #22. Interesting match-up with Fairfield this week. (slides2) — The undefeated Dukes are at Fairfield and Richmond this week. Win those two and they'll crack the top 20. (socrlaxdad) — The Twilight Saga, New Moon: I didn't see it nor Dukes but both probably bear watching! (UnderArmourOdor)

Hofstra: Bumps into the top 20. Nice wins against Albany and Cornell. Big test against Penn next, which they should lose but must make it close. 11-6 Penn would be a good score. (Go Team) — #17 - Pride take first of two games vs. Ivy foes with a win over Cornell and hope to relieve Penn of their unbeaten record next. (johnnyboy) — Unranked: With only a one-goal loss to Notre Dame, the 3-1 Pride is another team that could pull off a surprise win or two and challenge in the CAA. (Laxword) — #17. Beating unranked Cornell shouldn't be that significant, but for me it is a clear statement from the Pride that they belong and that they are better then the rest. #17. (mytwokeepers) — #25. Close win over Cornell and close loss to Notre Dame. (slides2) — UNRANKED. Still interesting and hanging around in the Top 21 to 30 ... but upcoming game against Penn may not be pretty. (WLaxinator)

Fairfield: At 3-0, the Stags deserve some rankings love also, but the 4-0 records of Rutgers, BC, and Louisville bumped them off my ballot. (DallasLaxDad) — Stag love at #19 ... They're winning: nuff said! They can only play their schedule! (Lucky Laxer) — Unranked and now 3-0, Fairfield has a big 14-5 win over Yale and then a close 13-10 win over Sacred Heart. (MDLaxManiac) — #19. The Stags get my #19 vote based on disenchantment with the rest of the field and a reward for quality play the past year. (mytwokeepers) — #23. Upstart bears watching. (slides2) — Stags in Top 20. Send TL cash. (Turtles Lax) — UNRANKED. Could be a good game coming up ... unbeaten and unranked Stags play unbeaten and unranked Dukes this week. Both Fairfield and James Madison beat unranked Yale. So far this season, neither team has beaten a ranked team or a team with a winning record. (WLaxinator)

Drexel: #25 - Reversed their lone setback to Penn to reach 6-1 but no quality win leaves Dragons waiting in the top 20 wings. (johnnyboy) — The Dragons are pushing the top 20 at 6-1 with their only loss to Penn. (socrlaxdad) — TL kinda digging the Dragons. (Turtles Lax)

Boston College: Four convincing wins - the Eagles deserve a spot at no. 19. (DallasLaxDad)

Johns Hopkins: #20 Seem to be headed for higher places. (laxamerica) — UNRANKED. Wins against Towson and Florida could buy the Blue Jays a ticket back into the Top 20. (WLaxinator)

Massachusetts: Hanging around the bubble with a couple of close losses to ranked teams. Need a couple of Ws before division play begins. (Glaxrdaddy)

Other Teams Pollsters Considered (and comments, if any)

Oregon:

Harvard:

Villanova: Why not? Nice start, but let's see what happens once Big East starts. (D-Lax)

Lehigh: Keeping with an unbeaten Patriot League theme, I considered putting the Mountain Hawks right behind Navy. But, in the end, the 4-0 records of Rutgers, BC, and Louisville are a bit more impressive. (DallasLaxDad)

Florida: Let's watch and see how the Gators perform against the Hoyas and Hopkins next week. They may be poised, they may not. (Go Team)

UMBC:

Cornell:

George Mason:
