Pollsters' Comments About Teams They Ranked

Northwestern: National Championship No. 7? (D-Lax) — Wish I had a brilliant, witty 2012 reason to put the ladies in purple on top - but I don't. They're the defending champs, again; and, I can't find a reason to move them off the top spot - so, here they stay, if and until they do something to prove they don't belong. (DallasLaxDad) — Shannon Smith returns for the reigning champions, but so do Taylor Thornton, Brianne LoManto, and Lacey Vigmostad. The 'Cats have the talent, the experience, and the dedication to repeat. (draw18) — Returns 292/318 goals, a great D, and the know-how to finish off an opponent. As the parent of a 99 percenter, I will be organizing an Occupy Evanston event forthwith. #1. (fanofall) — #2. If you are going to beat the Wildcats in 2012, you better do it early as NU's schedule has five consecutive home games to end the season (even then it will be rainy windy and cold). Regular season could be unblemished, but ALC tourney will be in Gainesville this year. (johnnyboy) — #2. Few losses to graduation, amazing tradition, top coaching, Smith and Thornton return with three other pre-season AAs, but likely not head and shoulders above the top 4. (Justalaxdad) — Doubter last year but proved me wrong. Think they have the parts to be there at the end. Last year may have been KAH's finest. (Lionwatcher) — Same Empire, different year. I've come to the opinion that pre-season polls are nothing more than the final tune-up before the real kibitzing begins. (Lucky Laxer) — 2011 champs get the #1 ranking in the preseason poll. 22-2 overall with both losses last season coming in conference at 3-2. 2012 could be a very interesting year for the Wildcats and the NLC. (MDLaxManiac) — #1. Until Northwestern loses, they will remain my number one pick. They have earned at least that much. (mytwokeepers) — Until they get get beat. (novaglax) — One. Why not? Our great friends in Illinois- "Land of Lincoln." Seem most to be in the habit of winning. So long as Amonte-Hiller (sounds like a sports car- maybe?) is there. (Rafterjack) — #1. Pride of place goes to the champs. (slides2) — Last year's champs are #1 until somebody proves otherwise ... it always works that way. (socrlaxdad) — Evanston stunk in Orlando WITH full complement of players. (Turtles Lax) — Since the Car Show is back in DC this weekend and we all love the smell of new cars and seasons ... first on the podium is old reliable NU – the General Motors Empire who fell from the top for a year but came roaring back to the top despite some awful color issues in last year's models. (UnderArmourOdor)

Maryland: The comments from the Maryland faithful will be how great the Terps are, again, and I can't disagree, so I'll just give them a pre-season #3 ranking, then sit back and read and watch. (DallasLaxDad) — Karri Ellen Johnson is back for the Terps, and her presence alone will be the XFactor for the perennial powerhouse. With Dipper back guarding the nets, and the explosive Katie Schwarzmann all over the field, look for Maryland to return. (draw18) — Lots of questions here. I think their attack was deep enough to overcome graduation losses, but the loss of Poist, Gallagher, and Cooper may be more problematic. For now CR and crew get #2, but there are many watching for the slightest slip. (fanofall) — #5. We'll need to see how good the Terps coaching really is, as the REESES need to put together the PIECES in 2012. Gone are half their starting squad from last spring. But it's not like the cupboard is bare with Dipper, Schwarzman back as well as KEJ and Brooke Griffin returning from injured reserve and another fine FFF class (fine flock of freshmen). My bet is we'll see more UMd losses than we are used to seeing but later a Turtle to be feared by tournament time. (johnnyboy) — #3. Their "woeful" defense is easily among the top 10 in the nation backed by great goal tending. The other units are top 3. Johnson or Schwarzmann or both probably Tewaarton finalists again, along with Dipper and Sanza form Tewaarton winner. (Justalaxdad) — While they lost some turtles from College Park, the return of KEJ will insure that the Terps will be near the top of the terrarium again. (Lionwatcher) — I could not find the 1A and 1B voting option on this fancy, new TOPTM software, so the Pride of PG County gets my #2. (Lucky Laxer) — 2011's #2 team with a tough loss to NU in the championship game. 6-0 in conference, the team has more strengths than weaknesses. UM Terps will remain a dominant force in 2012. (MDLaxManiac) — #2. Tons of talent starting in the goal and in every other position. (mytwokeepers) — Even with their showing against USA, they are #2. (novaglax) — Three. THIS is PURELY hunch. Can't lose the contest as Terps will be at top (somewhere) no matter. All top charts herein are winners, but Terps a slight grade down, perhaps (only, "perhaps", T.L.) PERHAPS, I say! (Rafterjack) — #2. Reloaded and ready for revenge. (slides2) — Terps will be looking to avenge the finals loss ... they need to score 10+ goals per game to win. (socrlaxdad) — Turtles stunk in Orlando, albeit without full complement of players. (Turtles Lax) — Toyota Terps fell on hard times last season. This one all depends if they get their Lexus KEJ18 model out of the garage and on the road again! (UnderArmourOdor)

Florida: Florida was strong during fall ball and its pre-season games. #4, but that may change quickly once competition starts. (D-Lax) — Can the Gators repeat the magic of last season, then take care of their quarterfinal opponent for a spot in the Final Four? I believe they can and will, so they're number 4. (DallasLaxDad) — The Gators won't sneak up on anyone this year. With Kitty Cullen back leading the way, and Cara Cannington and Mikey Meagher holding down the cage, the UF team is dangerously fast, talented, and ready to prove they have earned their rankings. (draw18) — The babies are all grown up. Question is, have they learned to win the big game? Opportunity for first ACC win and to justify #4 ranking comes at UNC Feb. 11. (fanofall) — #1. Let's shake this up a bit, as UF gets my top spot in the preseason poll. Looking for this Gator team to have the freshman follies and the sophomore slump well behind them. Third year now for most of these starters to have both confidence and familiarity with one another's play. UF may drop a game, but they should be primed fort the ALC championship when it comes to their home field in May. (johnnyboy) — #1. Another year older, 10 returning starters, Cullen and Burns have more help. These Gators are too big to wrestle now! ALC truly vies with ACC for top conference honors. (Justalaxdad) — With some luck the Gators get their first trip to Memorial Day weekend. They remain loaded. May have to play the Cats three times though. ALC starting to look a little bit like the ACC. (Lionwatcher) — I've read, I've contemplated, I've conducted my own poll and, without a doubt, Gainesville has the best trailer parks in the country. Their lacrosse team ain't too bad either. #3. (Lucky Laxer) — 16-4 overall and 7-0 in conference! Gators show you what you can do with a great school, some great weather, and a big budget! The Gators are for real; they performed like they should with the best talent recruited over the past four years, and as the players say, and a great suntan. (MDLaxManiac) — #4. All that young talent has now matured. Speed, talent, and maturity sounds like the ingredients for a big season. (mytwokeepers) — Very tough call between the Gators and the Heels. I do have a feeling I am going to regret this ranking. (novaglax) — Four. Gators move up. Let's see if they can sustain. Still got lots of home games (9) - even my Green wants to bask! Still not impressed with strength of Sunshine State team schedule, otherwise, however. (Rafterjack) — #3. Year three of the Swamp Experiment, and the Baby Gators have mutated into something scary. (slides2) — Gators were queens of the South in 2011, knocking off Northwestern in the regular season. I'm looking for more of the same - and maybe their first Final Four - in 2012. (socrlaxdad) — Gator Nation talking tough ... may actually bite hard this year. Chomp, chomp. (Turtles Lax) — No longer the air boat in the Everglades, the alligator skin is now adorns the Ferrari interior. Some originals had to hit the highway outta Gainesville! (UnderArmourOdor)

North Carolina: This is a guess - the Tar Heels will be playing in the national championship game, in a repeat of 2009. So, they're number 2. No real reason, just a gut feeling. (DallasLaxDad) — The Tar Heels have been cresting for a while, and there is no reason this year why they won't be up there again. Laura Zimmerman and Kara Cannizaro's time on the national team has made them even better players, and with Becky Lynch also back, the Heels will be tough. (draw18) — One of the more intimidating top 10 defenses has been dismantled, and Maksym will suffer as a result. Must overpower the Gators to send a message. #5. (fanofall) — #3. Tar Heels will emerge atop their conference in a season the ACC teams knock each other off a time or two. UNC will need to fill some holes on defense, so I look for any losses to come early. Think we'll see more team speed too, as Tar Heels replace Donohoe's goals. (johnnyboy) — #4. Lots of firepower with Lynch and Cannizzaro, stars everywhere like Serpe. Only questions are where to put them in the top 5 and can they finish the season on top? (Justalaxdad) — The disappointment of Memorial Day 2011 will motivate the Tar Heels. The Terps and the Devils will push the Tar Heels, and they should earn a return trip to Strong Island. (Lionwatcher) — I'd say at about this spot, #5, the Forum Purists reading my comments have made up their minds to ignore mine. Viva la irreverence! (Lucky Laxer) — 15-6 overall and 3-2 in conference. Last year the Tar Heels lost twice to both NU and the Terps as well as Penn and Duke. Tar Heels are the #5 in the Top 5. (MDLaxManiac) — #3. Like Maryland, the Tar heels have tons of talent. Do they have the attitude and chemistry to get to championship? (mytwokeepers) — Two. I moved the Tar Heels up. T.C., don't hate me. Need some diversions here! Bored, a little. Northeast winter has no storm, fuss. Lead off hosting Gators/Amanda O'Leary squad Feb., 11. Will tell us a little? (Rafterjack) — #4. Corey Donohoe and three starting defenders are gone, but Laura Zimmerman, Becky Lynch, and Kara Cannizzaro are a dynamic offensive combination. (slides2) — 'Heels - like the Terps - ended their 2011 season with a one-goal loss to NU on neutral turf. (socrlaxdad) — Sky not as blue as their unis. (Turtles Lax) — Porsche always the sexy pick to win the race but never seems to “Carrera” the trophy home! (UnderArmourOdor)

Duke: The Blue Devils are stacked yet again, with Emma Hamm and Kat Thomas making a solid presence in the draw circle. With Mollie Mackler and Lauren Martin holding down the backfield, this explosive team will go far. (draw18) — Deep attack unaffected by graduation losses. Back to SBU in May. Would love to see a statement made vs. the Cats on Feb. 19. #3. (fanofall) — #4. Coach Kimel needs to replace 75 goals and 50 assists from 2011's grads. The good news is that it shouldn't be too hard to reload with 75% of the starters returning and a team with good depth. (johnnyboy) — #5. Strong offensive team with Thomas, Wenger, and Quirke back. Defense needs to step up, but all the talent is there. (Justalaxdad) — Devils stayed strong throughout the season and showed the young Gators what tournament time is all about. This year has the strongest top 5 in awhile with the Devils in the mix. (Lionwatcher) — My #4 spot came down to Duke and UNC. They're virtually interchangeable, but I'm giving it to Duke by virtue of their larger roster. Extra bodies come in handy early in the season. (Lucky Laxer) — 15-5 overall and 4-1 in conference. Last year the Blue Devils lost twice to the Terps, and the only other losses were to NU, UNC, and Penn. Close OT win over unranked Brown. A Top 5 team for now. (MDLaxManiac) — #5. I look at this team and always think they will be outstanding and then they disappoint me. I have them at #5, but looking at their talent that ranking is a disappointment. Looking at their history, it seems about right. (mytwokeepers) — Five. Perhaps women's lacrosse needs a longer season. Baseball with a long season provides more change amongst leaders one year to the next. Dukie's remain in top five. (Rafterjack) — #5. Sarah Bullard and Christy Kaestner have graduated, but Emma Hamm is back for one last campaign, and Kat Thomas is a monster in the middle. (slides2) — Dookies are still the 3rd best team in the ACC. (socrlaxdad) — Always a factor ... sadly. Hahahaha! (Turtles Lax) — BMW, the always preppy pick of the preseason in any season, but will they go the X-tra mile?!? (UnderArmourOdor)

Princeton: The Tigers roared back into the upper echelon, and with talent right up the middle, starting with Lindsey deButts, Cassie Pyle, and Jaci Gassaway, Princeton is ready to stay on top of the league. (draw18) — Best of the Ivies flirted with 11-15 ranking in 2011. Returning attack and veteran leadership of Rehfuss, deButts, and Bachur get them to a solid #6. (fanofall) — Pyle leads back a strong crew that needs new help between the pipes, so I've placed them below a couple of Ivy competitors. They could of course be better than last year, but some Ivy seems certain to crack the top 5 during the season. (Justalaxdad) — Last year was the beginning of a rebound for the Tigers. I believe they will compete for the Ivy Crown, and the Ivy race will be tight all year. (Lionwatcher) — #10: What the Tigers lack in the goal, they make up for with the return of five of their top six point leaders and top A recruits McMunn and Grabbi. They've also got a coach that ain't too shabby. The Ivies may rival the ACC for cannibalistic tendencies this year! (Lucky Laxer) — 12-7 overall and 5-2 in conference. 2011 was a roller coaster season for the Tigers. Seven losses to ranked opponents and only six wins over ranked opponents. (MDLaxManiac) — #8. Is Princeton at #8 wishful thinking? The Tigers have been down lately, but I think I might be hearing this Tiger roar. (mytwokeepers) — Great D ... deButts D POY. (novaglax) — Eleven. Old Nassau. Tigertown. Most southern geographically, and in many (other) ways, of Ivy. Get jump on cold winters do Orange and Black. Snuck right up the poll last year on me whilst I was looking elsewhere. Drumm, Pyle and Tochihara, Erin ... gone. So new goalie situation for extremely able Coach Sailor. (Rafterjack) — #7. Lindsey deButts and Cassie Pyle provide strong senior leadership. Must replace Erin Tochihara in goal. (slides2) — Tigers have the toughest part of their 2012 schedule at home. (socrlaxdad) — Another Ivy always in the mix. (Turtles Lax) — Old school tie, old money, Bentley! Tigers comes back to be the high end brand name of the Ivy League. Driving Miss Cat Lady. (UnderArmourOdor)

Loyola: The experts have Georgetown on top in the Big East. I believe Loyola's performance last year was no fluke and will be repeated. The Greyhounds open at no. 6. (DallasLaxDad) — Kerry Stoothoff will anchor this talent-laden team, and her defense in the cage will be helped by Kellye Gallagher and Ana Heneberry. With the defense holding things tight, Marlee Paton will be free to score up front. (draw18) — Best chance at greatness passed, with a serious rebuilding year ahead for the Hounds. A challenge to hold onto #15. (fanofall) — #6. Will be interesting to see Adams coach a team whose strength will be goal play and defense. If the Hounds can dial back their free wheeling offense a little, in particular their turnovers, I can see Loyola atop the Big East. (johnnyboy) — Greyhounds lose much but Heneberry, Stoothoff return, and there's enough young firepower developing that they could repeat as Big East Champs. Aggressive style is fun to watch, and they led the nation in CT one year ago. (Justalaxdad) — The Wonder from Down Under has begun to work her magic to begin to bring Loyola back to the lofty status the program used to enjoy. Some key losses, but I think they can reload. (Lionwatcher) — #12: Is there life after Grace? I'm thinking so! Loyola is my pick for COC (Champ of Charles Str). Returning Heneberry and Stoothoff alone makes for some great stuff. As far as the Big East goes, it will be a down to the wire slugfest. (Lucky Laxer) — 17-3 overall and 6-2 in conference. The Hounds make my Top 10. Only three losses, but they came at the worst time of the year. IMO the Hounds were better than Gtown and Syracuse that they lost to, with the third loss to the Top 5 UNC. They might be young this year, but they can also be fearless - Go Hounds! (MDLaxManiac) — #11. Loyola at #11 is a nod to the great season they had last year. Their losses to graduation raise so many questions, but I have confidence they will carry on. (mytwokeepers) — Seven. Ha! Jen Adams- 'nuff said. Chart is also BIG winner. Remember, Rafter (me) 'charts' teams year to year, like Rafter might were he a CAPITALIST, own shares in America (like sooo many of us 1%ers do.) R.J., please recall, DID tie for second in 2011 as most accurate LaxPower preseason pollster. Pay heed? (Rafterjack) — #10. Hit hard by graduation. Ana Heneberry returns to lead the defense with Marlee Paton now the leading scoring threat. Kerry Stoothoff solid in goal. (slides2) — 'Hounds were the creme of the Big East crop last year. My prediction for 2012? Ditto. (socrlaxdad) — Big East champs will very likely repeat. Cannot wait for a Loyola vs. MD championship game. Alas, not gonna happen this year. (Turtles Lax) — Greyhounds were like Nissan last season - zoom zoomed out of the gate but ran out of gas! (UnderArmourOdor)

Penn: The Quakers are right in the mix of the Ivy League tussle this season thanks to the return of Erin Brennan and Emily Leitner. These two veterans are looking to reclaim the crown that had been theirs for a while, and with Lydia Miller back to show her rookie season was legit, Penn is a dangerous team. (draw18) — Consistent top 10 results and recruiting keep the Quakers in lock step with Princeton. Should be a great battle for the conference title. #7. (fanofall) — #10. Can the Quakers find an offense to complement their defense in 2012? Looking for more goals this season, but think it is still a work in progress. Nevertheless, second in the Ivy this year will be worthy of top 10 status. (johnnyboy) — Brennan leads a strong nucleus back and they can beat anybody on a good day. March 3rd battle at NC should shed some light. Also play G'town, MD, and Duke so a benchmark team for TOPTM. (Justalaxdad) — Intuition tells me that last year's somewhat off season in the City of Brotherly Love was an aberration, and I am expecting a rebound. That said, I am not sure they can compete with the top 5. (Lionwatcher) — #9: I like Penn over Princeton for my first Ivy pick. Why? I'll take a seasoned Sr GK who, with her first three minutes of play last year, got more time than Princeton's current Gs had all year. (Lucky Laxer) — 11-6 overall and 6-1 in conference. The best Ivy league teams had 11-12 wins and 5-7 losses; we had tri-Ivy parity? Five losses to ranked opponents and a loss to unranked JHU. Only four wins over ranked opponents. Quakers not as tough as they used to be? (MDLaxManiac) — #6. Tough defense and a disciplined offense have always made UPenn tough. They will again this year. (mytwokeepers) — Eight. Queen of the Ivy. My friend Bill Young goes on and on re: his Quakers. Yikes, Youngie! Have no reason to unseat them, does though Rafter Jack. One of two, remember (Yale the other) endowed programs. (Rafterjack) — #11. Erin Brennan may be best player in the Ivies. (slides2) — Ivy #2 and a Top 10 finish in 2011 ... I'm predicting much of the same for 2012. (socrlaxdad) — Will they ever understand that a superior defense cannot forever account for a pitiful offense? Probably not. Sad. (Turtles Lax) — Prius - will they go a long way ... they probably won’t be exciting but reliable. (UnderArmourOdor)

Virginia: The Cavaliers are led by Julie Gardner who will be a key player for the Hoos in 2012. How the rookies respond will be key, but having Josie Owen back for a full season will make a huge difference for UVa. (draw18) — Returning 193/197 goals speaks well for the Hoos. A very aggressive non-conference schedule could do much for them rankings-wise. Looking forward to a strong showing at home vs. Loyola. #11. (fanofall) — Unranked - not a believer, but I want to be. (johnnyboy) — Cavs had a down year and play two Big East powers to help us define more reasonable rankings in February. Gardner a special middie, but they lack proven quality and quantity of ACC rivals. This, however, is why they play the games! (Justalaxdad) — Was 2011 just a lost trip down the Nile or a true barometer of trouble in Charlottesville? Time will tell. I have the Cavaliers at #8, but my gut tells me they are too high, but a give a nod to history and tradition. (Lionwatcher) — #6: I've made several posts on the Hoos' fall and I've gotten the bandwagon out of mothballs for the spring. 2012 will be a return to relevancy. There's been several changes, but the biggest is attitude. Space prohibits my espousing their virtues, but just give me a few weeks. (My lone proviso is Julie's willingness to make a change in goal if Kolarik starts poorly. If she's not willing to make the change, look for the Hoos to repeat last year.) (Lucky Laxer) — 9-9 overall and 1-4 in conference! UVa is a great school, but a .500 season is not very good. UVa does not deserve a preseason Top 20 ranking after a season like that. (MDLaxManiac) — #9. Historically a top team, UVa has been down but dangerous for the past few years. Too much talent to ignore, so #9 it is. (mytwokeepers) — Not sold on their goalie situation. (novaglax) — Ten. Expect 'hoos will recover some this annum. (Rafterjack) — #9. Hoos hope to bounce back from disappointing season, building offense around seniors Charlie Finnigan, Julie Gardner, and Josie Owen. Liz Downs will be missed. (slides2) — Cavs looking for big improvements over last year's 9-9 campaign. Trouble is their 2012 schedule looks almost identical to 2011! It's a tall order. (socrlaxdad) — 'Hoo's to say if 'Hoos will realize their potential? Hoo knows! (Turtles Lax) — Audi’s motto “Luxury has progressed” is like the Hoos, who have lots of scoring horsepower back and the new model has progressed! (UnderArmourOdor)

Boston College: I'm a believer. Which, of course, means I have to pick BC to knock off Duke and Virginia. The Eagles open at no. 7. (DallasLaxDad) — The Eagles have been rising over the last couple of years, and Brittany Wilton and Brooke Blue are back, making BC bursting with talent. This team has a host of talent, has a competitive schedule, and is ready to continue its ascent. (draw18) — In any other conference, the Eagles would be stars. Coming from the ACC, thy're #17. (fanofall) — #17. Eagle put a scare in the ACC traditional top 4 last season. Can they keep it up? I think so, but that still means 4th in the ACC. (johnnyboy) — Igoe and Wilton leading a rising power in women's lax. Solid coaching, recruiting and growing confidence. They will beat some top 10 team, but can they join the upper echelon of the ACC? (Justalaxdad) — I like what is going on at BC. With the returning talent and the new hires, this looks like it could be a true breakout season (I was going to say banner year, but, really, a banner?). (Lionwatcher) — #7 Bowen's scored a BIG, arguably the best, recruiting class that now must step up with the big girls. I'm thinking they're up to it. Big test with Syracuse in their second game. I like their chances this year. (And yes, you're correct. I DO have FIVE ACC teams in my top seven. ACC RULES!). (Lucky Laxer) — 12-7 overall and 1-4 in conference. In 2011, the Eagles managed only two wins over ranked opponents: Harvard (10-6) and UVa (9-9). Most of the teams they played and beat in 2011 had close to .500 records. (MDLaxManiac) — #15. Boston College seems to be this years "sexy" choice to crash the Top 10. I just don't see it and have them ranked at #15. (mytwokeepers) — Freshmen will definitely impact this team. (novaglax) — Nine. (Rafterjack) — #6. Breakthrough year for the Eagles, with Kristin Igoe and Brittany Wilton in command and blue chip freshmen adding talent. (slides2) — Eagles were the surprise of 2011 for me. A six-game winning streak to start the year plus wins at Virginia and close losses to Maryland and Northwestern have to bode well for their confidence in 2012. (socrlaxdad) — Could rise sharply ... very sharply. (Turtles Lax) — KIA - like the commercial they are ready to play “How Do You Like Me Now” before “Dirty Water.” (UnderArmourOdor)

Dartmouth: Sarah Plumb leads a tough Dartmouth team that is ready to assert itself yet again. With Kristen Giovaniello returning to the goal circle, the women of Dartmouth are prepared to take home the Ivy crown. (draw18) — Best GK in the Ivies and lots of returning goals get #9. With three in the Top 10, the Ivy League ties the ACC as the top power conference - that doesn't seem right? #9. (fanofall) — #12. Dartmouth left me green around the gills in 2011, as they under achieved IMO. Maybe this senior class will eliminate the inconsistent play we've seen the last couple of seasons. (johnnyboy) — Tons of talent back and Giovannielo between the pipes. The tough, tight Ivy is a pick'um, all good teams, and the Green appear to better than last year's version that won the regular season championship. Solid keeping can make a good team great. (Justalaxdad) — Think the Big Green is poised for a good year, but the Ivy confuses me (and did not admit me). Should be a tough year in the Ivy and I think any one of four teams could win it all). (Lionwatcher) — So I'm starting my research for the lower 10 and checked Dartmouth's web site. There I saw a picture of a beautiful, young lady, Kyra Hansson, jumping off a perfectly good bridge with a rubber band tied to her legs. That ended the competition for #11. As Hammer said, "Can't touch this!" (Lucky Laxer) — 11-5 overall and 6-1 in conference. Lots of close games for the Big Green in 2011. Four losses to ranked opponents and a loss to unranked BU. Four wins over ranked opponents. The Big Green, Tigers, and Quakers were close in 2011. What will 2012 bring for the Ivy trifecta? (MDLaxManiac) — #10. Rounding out the Top 10, the Green will be very tough this year if they mature and continue the growth they showed last year. (mytwokeepers) — Fourteen. Will miss Kat Collins-big attacker (four against MD and three against Crimson - same week of wins), Shannie MacKenzie - dogged and skilled defender, Greta Meyer - leading scorer/feeder and all around athlete/winner. See if 'sophomores' (now seniors, see) will surge as they need to do if Green is to out-perform 2011. Maybe a little dubious here. But have balance, early A.A. goalie, wily Coach Patton and 'Hermanson' coming soon! (Rafterjack) — #14. Goalie Kristen Giovanniello had a great freshman year. Solid midfield will keep Green in Ivy mix. (slides2) — The Big Green look to be slightly improved over 2011's squad. (socrlaxdad) — Home field advantage guarantees Top 20. (Turtles Lax) — Honda Civic Hybrid - The Big Green need to get some mileage in the Ivy to play more during the global warming at the end of the season. (UnderArmourOdor)

Georgetown: Loss of Jordy Kirr is huge, but Ricky Fried is The Man (next to Gary, of course). 'Cuse match-up mid-season may be the defining moment. (D-Lax) — The best of a increasingly weak conference.#13. (fanofall) — #19. Keeping their opponents off the scoreboard was a problem for the Hoyas last season. If they can get more stops from their defense and goal play, this will prove to be a low ranking - BUT - the jury is still out. (johnnyboy) — Thomas among nation's very elite, does it ALL, and with Barnes lead a strong returning crew that must up its game on the defensive end. Great scoring potential, but questions need to be answered on the other end. Call me an optimist. Look for them to start stronger and go longer than last year squad. (Justalaxdad) — My first Big East team at #10, and I hemmed and hawed about putting them this high. My doubt is not the talent, but talent was there last year. Last year's start for the Hoyas was abysmal (or insert any word you think that describes something worse than abysmal). Must get out of the gate and give this team some early confidence. (Lionwatcher) — #16: The Hoyas probably have the best team in the Big East ... on paper. This fact is echoed by the BE coaches voting them tops in their pre-season poll. They got some studs, but I've got very little faith. Sorry HoyaMom! (Lucky Laxer) — 9-8 overall and 7-1 in conference. The Hoyas had a below average season in 2011, with only two wins over ranked opponents. They lost to every ranked opponent they played in 2011 in addition to two losses to unranked Big East foe ND. Always loaded with talent and great expectations. On the edge of the Top 20 to start 2012. (MDLaxManiac) — #7. I always enjoy watching the Hoyas play. Sharp passing and defensive communication make Georgetown my #7. (mytwokeepers) — Sixteen. Can't afford terrible starts such as in 2011. (Rafterjack) — #18. Hoyas build around Sophia Thomas as talented underclassmen step up. (slides2) — Like Syracuse, the Hoyas were a Big East team that lost 5 of first 7 in 2011. Unlike the Orange, they failed to finish in the Top 20 of TOPTM. They will also be looking for a faster start in 2012. (socrlaxdad) — As soon as Ricky realizes all his players aren't superstars, the Hoyas will move up. He has not yet proved he could do that to date. Do not understand why. (Turtles Lax) — Mini Cooper Hoyas have the classic status and current buzz, but size of results last year was just mini-sized too! (UnderArmourOdor)

Stanford: This year, somebody will be traveling to the West Coast for a first round tournament game, and the Cardinal will advance to the round of 8. Stanford opens on my ballot at number 5. (DallasLaxDad) — Even after losing half of their goals, the Cardinal are still the best of the West. February tells the tail of the entire season. #10. (fanofall) — #13. Will be a bit of a rebuilding year for the Cardinal, but they will still be atop the MPSF by season's end. Their defense and ball control offense gives them the Ws from lesser opponents and allows them to be in a position to win most every game against equal and more prominent competition. (johnnyboy) — Lots of talent graduated or missing yet lots of youth to develop. Boeri twins and Kim provide firepower. Need some solid goalie play to stay top 20. (Justalaxdad) — Still the best of the West, although losses will really hurt this year. If they can do what they did last year, I would be very surprised. (Lionwatcher) — #13: From this point down, pre-season rankings are pure guess work ... Stanford is a perfect example. They lost a bunch, recruited pretty well, and have some experienced players. Big question will be Munoz replacing Read in goal. If all else fails, they can fall back on Adam as a replacement. (Any of you remember that?) (Lucky Laxer) — 16-3 overall and 6-0 in conference. The West Coast Cardinals only three loses were to NU, UF, and a surprise loss to Vandy (8-8). Stanford is a legitimate Top 10 team! (MDLaxManiac) — #13. I see no reason Standford won't repeat their success from last season. #13 with a bullet. (mytwokeepers) — I really like what Bokker is assembling out there. It will be interesting how they do against out of conference opponents. (novaglax) — Six. Cardinal better make their move soon. USC on the way (next year- isn't it?). Why you guys mark down tree? Look to continue to OWN the MPSF, says Rafterjack! (Rafterjack) — #12. Lost top three scorers and experienced goalie. Boeri sisters now take up the mantle. (slides2) — Cardinal are Best of the West again for 2012. (socrlaxdad) — Trees are always repping the Left Coast ... usually all by their lonesome. (Turtles Lax) — VW van with a Dead sticker; need not to breakdown on the East Coast roadies! (UnderArmourOdor)

Syracuse: 'Cuse brings back a more experienced defensive corps and top scorers Tumolo and Webster. Significantly improved conditioning. Big question is in the cage. (D-Lax) — Having Michelle Tumolo back will help the SU squad take major steps forward back to the upper echelon, and this team has the ability to challenge heavily in the Big East. (draw18) — Two words: Liz Hogan. #19. (fanofall) — #11. Every year I expect more juice out of the Orange than I actually get. But I'll try again, as I finally see GG's squad passing Gtown in the standings - but still trail Loyola in their last Big East season. (johnnyboy) — Lose a lot, but Tumolo sets the table and coach usually finds a way to keep them near top of Big East. Play nation's toughest opening schedule, so new keeper will be tested early and often. Guess here is they will be 1-4 before getting on a winning track. (Justalaxdad) — There is talent in the Dome, but the Orange need to develop some consistency and figure ways to bring it every game. (Lionwatcher) — #14: Gary reaches into his bag of off-season tricks and pulls out a "Trixie"! This alone will make their offense even more powerful. Big question is in goal. (Lucky Laxer) — 10-8 overall and 7-1 in conference. The Cuse had a below average season in 2011, losing to every ranked opponent they played except for Loyola. Loss of talent GK Hogan might hurt a little. (MDLaxManiac) — #16. Syracuse disappointed me last year, but I still see them as a talented bunch. Will they play defense this year? #16. (mytwokeepers) — Don't be surprised if you see them lose a few close ones. (novaglax) — Fifteen. Male coaches always being watched as to no women coaches in the male game. Wha? (Rafterjack) — #13. Michelle Tumolo leads Orange bid to retake Big East crown. (slides2) — The Orange lost 5 of first 7 in 2011 and finished 10-8. They will no doubt be looking for a faster start in 2012. (socrlaxdad) — Did not impress in Orlando either. (Turtles Lax) — Syracuse - Fiat 500 - they will have to do better than a .500 winning percentage to keep the Godfather from having to give Ex-Cuses for some J-Lo results. (UnderArmourOdor)

Harvard: Harvard at no. 9??? Why not? If the Ivy League is half as exciting as last year, why shouldn't the ladies in Crimson be the league's top representative in the NCAAs? (DallasLaxDad) — The one-time champions are back in the hunt, with Danielle Tetreault leading the way. Melanie Baskind covers the midfield with her, and with Jennifer VanderMeulen pumping in goals up top, the Crimson are going to stay right in the mix. (draw18) — #7. Here is another pick for my comrade pollsters to critique. Looking for the Crimson to emerge atop the Ivy as Penn, Princeton, and Dartmouth get all the early attention. (johnnyboy) — Not even Florida has everybody coming back like the Crimson. Keeper is key to winning the Ivy and making noise. Tetreault shot 59.2% and scored 42 goals! (Justalaxdad) — The Crimson has begun to emerge as a real factor in the Ivy. I think this will be the most competitive Ivy in years and any of the top four could win it all. (Lionwatcher) — #15: Harvard is the 4th Ivy for my 20 but could also be the joker. 10-6 last year with 1-goal losses to Stanford, Penn and UVHoo and a 2-goal loss to Princeton ... soooo close! They return everyone who scored last year and lost only one defender. Some better goal play, and the sky is truly the limit for the Crimson. (Lucky Laxer) — 10-6 overall and 5-2 in conference. All losses in 2011 were to ranked opponents except for two shocking wins over Ivy league foes Princeton and Dartmouth. (MDLaxManiac) — #12. I think Harvard is locked and loaded this year. They will open lots of eyes, and I probably have them ranked too low at #12. (mytwokeepers) — Twelve. Can r-u-n. Fast. Likely will continue to rise this year. May find atmosphere a little 'heady,' which could impede advance. (Rafterjack) — #16. Jenn Vandermeulen and Danielle Tetreault provide a dangerous one-two scoring punch. (slides2) — The Crimson were just a handful of goals away from an excellent 14-2 record in 2011 ... OR from an abysmal 6-10 record. Can they win the close ones again in 2012? That's the BIG question. (socrlaxdad)

James Madison: It's tough enough to rank the teams in the second 10 after they've played a half dozen games, but before the season? So, I'll pick the Dukes to lead off the second half the poll, then go from there. (DallasLaxDad) — JMU lives and dies by their defense. McDonald and Perotta need to have a breakout year to stay at #8. Oh, and don't look now, but there's an angry Tiger behind you. (fanofall) — #8. JMU may get a little pressure from Towson, but the Dukes should take the Colonial Crown. Love watching Casey Ancarrow - always around the ball and has a dominant right that teams can't stop. (johnnyboy) — Ancarrow and Co. will help Dukes bring A game. Chance to impress all comes in late March. (Justalaxdad) — The Dukes confuse me. They are always the top in the conference but cannot seem to win the big out of conference games that they need. (Lionwatcher) — Going against conventional wisdom, the DukeDogs get my #8. '11 ended with an 8.96 GAA, with a.385 SP: What's that mean? GREAT D! IF they can continue that trend (despite graduation's losses) AND Menghetti gets her SP up, the Ancarrow-led offense can lead to a BIG season. (Lucky Laxer) — 15-4 overall and 6-1 in conference. Only two wins over ranked Top 20 opponents Princeton (12-7) and UVa (9-9) and several one-goal wins over unranked opponents for the dog barking Dukes of JMU on the edge of my Top 20. (MDLaxManiac) — #17. JMU is deep and talented. I believe that the return of Casey Ancarrow will be huge. If all the "ifs" come through, #17 will be way low. (mytwokeepers) — What happened to the #2 or #3 recruiting class that are seniors? I would have expected more. Casey will be shouldering the load as usual. (novaglax) — Seventeen. (Rafterjack) — #8. Dukes never get the respect they deserve. Look for Casey Ancarrow to be an offensive force. (slides2) — The Dukes are the second best team in Virginia, but they'll need to increase their offensive output to improve in 2012. (socrlaxdad) — Jeep - they should again be able to off-road thru the tall grass to mow down (what, can’t use the M word in the valley) opponents at home! (UnderArmourOdor)

Notre Dame: There is a ton of talent in South Bend, led by Maggie Tamasitis and Kaitlyn Brosco up front. The new staff will be an adjustment for the Irish, but Halfpenny was able to put together winners in Williamsburg. Expect the same in South Bend. (draw18) — #16. I see the Irish with a 3rd or 4th place finish in the Big East even with Coach Halfpenny at the helm. What's new is old. (johnnyboy) — Tamasitis is nation's leading returning assist maker, and the cupboard is not bare. New coach, improving goaltending, and immediate help from freshmen makes them a upward movers as the season moves along. (Justalaxdad) — This one is a bit of a flyer. An Irish team that, IMHO, has underperformed has a new leprechaun at the helm, and that may be the change they need for a big resurgence. Talent must now again show performance. (Lionwatcher) — Halfpenny leaves My Beloved high and dry. To show my 2012 kinder, gentler side, I'm not holding any grudges and putting the Irish at 19. The former regime did not leave the cupboard bare, and they brought in a solid class. I'm just trying to figure our why three frosh are playing "Middle". (Lucky Laxer) — 10-9 overall and 6-2 in conference. Big East wasn't so big and bad in 2011, as the top teams had only slightly better than a .500 record. The Irish had a below average season in 2011. They had only two wins over Gtown and lost to every other ranked opponent they played. On the edge of the Top 20. (MDLaxManiac) — Not in my Top 20, but enough talent to keep an eye on. (mytwokeepers) — Nineteen. (Rafterjack) — #19. Christine Halfpenny takes over after disappointing 2011 season. (slides2) — The Irish lost the Big East final last year and finished out of the Top 20. Their new coach faces the challenge of trying to coax a fast start out of a team that hasn't done that since 2009. (socrlaxdad) — Jury is out. New HC should be a factor. (Turtles Lax) — Lotus in factory green, they need to have some luck of the Irish, as they won’t be able to kiss the Blaney Stone this year! (UnderArmourOdor)

Albany: And the beat goes on. #14. (fanofall) — #18. Nobody knows and mines the talent in upstate NY better than Coach Battaglino, and the Great Danes gave us one of the better surprises of 2011. This year we'll see how well he can advance that talent, particularly replacing Branchini's 100 draw controls and last year's team point guard Frick and her 49 assists. Back to lead the America East defending champs are Arrianna Parker, Mel Rorie, and Anna Berman in goal. (johnnyboy) — Top two stars gone, but lots of other talent back and a solid keeper. American East is solid, getting better, and should be very fun to watch. (Justalaxdad) — The Great Danes got a big Hello in the tournament after a wonderful season. The second best team in northern NY and may be challenged by the hosts of the FF. (Lionwatcher) — #20: Battaglino grabs '11 COY from LM, loses three top players from their Dream Season and has some rebuilding ahead. Can they do it again? I'm still impressed with his disciplinary decision last year, and I'm believing he can build on that and their '11 success was no fluke. Besides, ya gotta love "Great Danes"! (Lucky Laxer) — 18-1 overall and 6-0 in conference. The Danes do it again in 2011. Only one loss to NU in the five ranked teams they played as well as undefeated in conference. Solid Top 20 team, hopefully they will get to play some more ranked teams each year! Will have conference competition from the retooled Stony Brook. (MDLaxManiac) — #20. Tough and well coached, Albany crashed into everyone's consciousness last year. Welcome back. #20. (mytwokeepers) — A surprise last year ... not any more. Probably will go higher, but scheduling hurts them. (novaglax) — Thirteen. Many marked Great Danes down here early. Mmm? What did I miss? Same impressive coach and certainly spirit should be high after undefeated 2011. But this year UNC at UNC Feb. 24. From snowy Albany in February ... Will tell some about their season that early outing methinks. (Rafterjack) — #15. Will be hard to replicate last season's amazing success with Jodi Battaglia, Nicole Branchini, and Taylor Frink having graduated. Ariana Parker was a revelation as a freshman. (slides2) — Great Danes had just one loss in 2011 ... that will be hard to repeat. (socrlaxdad) — Strong again? Hmmm. (Turtles Lax) — Volvo - needs to gain traction while it is still cold up North! (UnderArmourOdor)

Ohio State: Alayna Markwordt and Gabby Capuzzi return for the Buckeyes, who were a hair away from a berth in 2011. With the experience back in Columbus, and a number of players who contribute on a regular basis, Ohio State will challenge for a berth in 2012. (draw18) — Huge losses in Carruthers, Beard, and Zerhusen, but the scrappy Buckeyes are still a force to be reckoned with. #20. (fanofall) — #15. Alexis Venechanos had her Buckeyes in every game after three early losses last season. OSU now enters their 2nd season under new system. Looking for that to carryover well in 2012. (johnnyboy) — Markwordt among nation's finest, and there's lots of return talent. New starter between the pipes, tough schedule, but they turned a corner last year and are a force to be reckoned with now. (Justalaxdad) — I like what is going on in Columbus. Some new talent and the continued development that comes with coaching, I think, makes the Buckeyes the number 3 team in the ALC. (Lionwatcher) — #18. I liked Ohio State last year and I still do. #18. (mytwokeepers) — #20. Brittany Zerhusen has graduated, but Alayna Markwordt returns to finish imposing career in Columbus. (slides2) — The Buckeyes had some big wins and close losses in 2011 - I expect similar in 2012. (socrlaxdad) — On the cusp of good things. Stand by. (Turtles Lax)

Penn State: Will playing in a new lax stadium propel them into the top 20? (D-Lax) — Dana Cahill will be the rock of the PSU defense in 2012, and the rest of the team will build from her. There is no question that the Lion will roar again in Happy Valley, and the talent that is latent in this team will come to life. (draw18) — Lose eight starters, but they'll be successful or Missy D. will kill them trying. #16. (fanofall) — There are no easy outs in the ALC. Cahill is back in goal and helps give them a chance each time out. Much firepower gone but plenty of potential that can blossom quickly. (Justalaxdad) — 10-8 overall and 3-2 in conference. The Nittany Lions were not impressive and not very happy in the valley in 2011. They lost to every ranked opponent they played except for Ohio State and that took double OT to win. (MDLaxManiac) — #14. Everything I hear coming out of Penn State lacrosse is about unity and excitement. I have them at #14, but they could easily crash the Top 10. (mytwokeepers) — Twenty. Wish Penn State well. Horrors, such a thing to go through! Yes, I get it, but let us now put behind us! Say amen! (Rafterjack) — #23. Must replace most of the offense. Dana Cahill is strong in goal, and freshman Tatum Coffey may make some noise. (slides2) — The Nittany Lions were an enigmatic 10-8 in 2011. Will all the hoopla surrounding this school in the past view months have any effect? Let's hope not. (socrlaxdad) — New facility will help recruiting ... and put area eye docs outta work. (Turtles Lax) — Range Rovers - if they go up and down the emotional roller coaster that has saddened Happy Valley plus not a bad method to actually get there! (UnderArmourOdor)

Vanderbilt: The Commodores have a host of returners that will push Vandy back into the top-10, including USA player Allyson Carey, who has had a monster career. Brandi Byner burst onto the scene for the Dores in the backfield, and her experience along with Courtney Kirk up front will make Nashville a dangerous city. (draw18) — Carey as good as any player in the country Can she bring the supporting cast along for the ride? Maybe, but tough conference and everyone else appears better. (Justalaxdad) — Need to replace some departed talent. Though conference, but good recruiting. Only #4 in the ALC though. (Lionwatcher) — #17: Vandy has a senior class that is laden with talent but just hasn't reached its full potential. These 10 spent the fall watching the Vandy's successful, over-achieving football team (whose coach was pushed out of Maryland to make room for an Edsall. Great decision that ... ). I'm banking that they caught the fever and this will be their year. (Lucky Laxer) — 8-8 overall and 1-4 in conference. Vandy might be a great school, but a .500 season is not very good. Not a preseason Top 20 ranked team after that. (MDLaxManiac) — Eighteen. (Rafterjack) — #21. Dores mediocre last year, but where there is Ally Carey there is hope. (slides2) — The bad news? The 'Dores could only manage a single two-game win streak through all of 2011. The worse news? The 2012 schedule starts out even tougher. (socrlaxdad) — Just a guess. (Turtles Lax) — Dores can Dodge up the ranking but need the hemi package to kick up the revs and wins! (UnderArmourOdor)

Massachusetts: #9. League play in the Atlantic 10 will give UMass a top 10 record, while their Ivy, ACC, Big East, and ALC competition knock each other off. (johnnyboy) — 17-3 overall and and 7-0 in conference. But, the Minutewomen lost to the only three ranked opponents they played in 2011. They did go undefeated in the A10. Better than a lot of other teams did in 2011 and good enough for Top 20 preseason ranking. (MDLaxManiac) — #19. Will the strong group of frosh be able to help UMass reach new heights? I think we might be seeing a new northern power emerge. #19. (mytwokeepers) — #17. Jackie Lyons, face paint and all, is gone, but many starters are back, including Katie Ferris, last year's freshman whiz. (slides2) — The Minutewomen had winning streaks of 10 and 6 games during their excellent 2011 campaign ... that will be tough to replicate in 2012. (socrlaxdad)

Johns Hopkins: The Blue Jays have been flying under the radar a bit, but with Taylor D'Amore back as a sophomore, there is no hiding out in Baltimore any longer. Candace Rossi and Colleen McCaffery make a tough 1-2 punch up front, and Alyssa Kildare is solid in the back. (draw18) — #14. Saw a little more Hop in the Blue Jays last season, which I think will carry over to 2012. Alas, they will only get 3rd in the ALC, but that is improvement after a few down seasons. (johnnyboy) — Nucleus returns with McCaffrery an underrated star and D'Amore about to shine. Tough league, but they're capable of beating anybody if things go their way. Consistency is tough, but steady players all over the field now. (Justalaxdad) — Beat the big dogs last year. Was that an aberration or the sign of things to come? (Lionwatcher) — #18: I know Larry loves her, and that always goes a long way in my book, but if Janine doesn't put up some big things with an upperclass loaded roster (9 Srs and 6 Jrs) this year ... Can't wait for the Loyola game! (Lucky Laxer) — Not in my Top 20, but enough talent to keep an eye on. (mytwokeepers) — #22. Seniors Colleen McCaffrey and Candace Rossi lead Jays. Taylor D'Amore was impressive as a freshman. (slides2) — The Jays are the #2 team along North Charles St. (socrlaxdad)

Towson: Big gains made in the second half of 2011. Decent chance for CAC crown. Charles St. Champs. #12. (fanofall) — Great coaching staff gives Tiggers a shot. Will players respond? Always a chance to win with Mary Teeters in the cage. (Turtles Lax)

Navy: The Mids get the nod in the Patriot League. (DallasLaxDad) — Unranked - Tops in the Patriot but need a big win to break into top 20 - I don't see it. (johnnyboy) — Not in my Top 20, but enough talent to keep an eye on. (mytwokeepers) — #24. Jasmine DePompeo is a force on attack, and the aggressive Young twins will keep things interesting. (slides2) — The Mids have two straight NCAA appearances under their shiny belts. (socrlaxdad) — The benefit of having really smart players cannot be understated or underestimated. (Turtles Lax) — Hummer - needs to continue to broadside opponents with military precision! (UnderArmourOdor)

Rutgers: The Scarlet Knights will be sleepers in 2012 -- until they assert themselves and the talent of Ali Steinberg and Rebecca Alley is seen by many more. With Lily Kalata holding a year of experience, now, she will be even more of a force. (draw18)

Stony Brook: Big potential surprise could come from here. (Lionwatcher) — For 2011, the Stony Brook Sea Wolves went 4-11 and ranked 56th. Add three-time NCAA Division II championship head coach Spallina and a few transfers from Adelphi, and some are already talking national championship. SBU will do well; they should be ranked once they start playing and could make the playoffs this year. We will know a lot about more the retooled SBU team in March after they play the Maryland-Florida-Duke trifecta. Good luck, Joe and SBU. (MDLaxManiac) — Let us see if it's all smoke and mirrors or substance. (Turtles Lax)

High Point: And, High Point also gets one of my unranked spots. The Panthers have got to be mentioned after last season's 15-4 record and NLC championship. (DallasLaxDad) — Unranked - but I think we might see a big-time win from this squad in 2012. (johnnyboy) — The whole Gaeng is back. Should be a much improved season with plenty of talent o hand and everybody getting better. Others may be more deserving of the #25 slot, but by year end they should reach the high water mark of their program, until next year. (Justalaxdad) — This will be a team worth watching. Losing no one after their 15-4 inaugural season topped off with the NLC Championship and sporting a solid recruiting class makes for High Point expectations. They also sport the highest percentage of players from Maryland's Anne Arundel County of any D1 team. They've got 5 and three hail from beautiful, downtown Arnold and SParky Jr. (sister of HOO's very own Sparky, Julie Gardner; and is therewith granted honorary Arnoldian citizenship.) This could be 2012's Albany. Stay tuned. (Lucky Laxer) — Not in my Top Twenty, but enough talent to keep an eye on. (mytwokeepers) — Having finished last season in a manner consistent with their name, "High Point" gets a nod. Remember, in TL's world championships mean a lot. (Turtles Lax)

Cornell: May be the sleeper team of the year and could be upsetting some folks in the top 20. (D-Lax) — The Big Red could make some noise in the competitive Ivy league this year thanks to the return of Jessie Steinberg and Kate Ivory. This is not a team to take lightly, as some teams found out last year. (draw18) — Steinberg can score on anyone and, if they can improve on the defensive end, they may leave their elite Ivy counterparts seeing Red. (Justalaxdad)

Fairfield: #20. Think the Stags will return to top of the Metro and NCAA. (johnnyboy) — 13-5 overall and 6-0 in conference and then lost the MAAC championship game two years in a row. Stags lost to the ranked opponents they played; they need to schedule and play more Top 20 teams and finish strong. (MDLaxManiac)

Other Teams Pollsters Considered (and comments, if any)

. Temple: Why not? Returning most of their starters; may challenge UMass for the A-10. (D-Lax)

. Saint Francis: Although I'm not ranking the Red Flash, my prediction is that they make the NEC tournament this year and play Bryant for the spot in the play-in game. (DallasLaxDad)

. Bryant: And I mention Bryant for the same reason as Saint Francis - they play for the NEC tournament championship. (DallasLaxDad)

. Jacksonville: Here's hoping the NLC is as entertaining this year as last. Would love to see a Jacksonville-High Point repeat in the championship game. (DallasLaxDad) — Of course everyone is back and nation's lead offense led by freshmen Derner's 52 should be better. Leaps by Dolphin's on the other end of the field may lead to another leap in the LaxPower rankings, and nobody made a bigger leap up last season. Tough schedule with Cornell, Vanderbilt, and Florida will make them better by year end. (Justalaxdad)

. UMBC: Unranked - UMBC dropped two, one-goal contests to America East champ Albany in 2011. (johnnyboy)

. Boston University: Unranked - Terriers will be waiting if Albany struggles. (johnnyboy) — Not in my Top 20, but enough talent to keep an eye on. (mytwokeepers) — #25. Danielle Etrasco back as Terriers look to grab America East from Albany. (slides2)

. New Hampshire:

. Louisville: Just could not slot them higher. (Turtles Lax)

. William & Mary: Given their crazy schedule (and new coaching staff) the Tribe gets in the poll at least once this season. (Turtles Lax)
