Pollsters' Comments About Teams They Ranked

Maryland: Two wins keep them on top again this week. (Artemis3) — No. 2 this week for the reasons stated in my comments on Florida. (DallasLaxDad) — Alex Aust is having a great season, and the firepower of this squad, with Brooke Griffin adding valuable minutes, the ever-impressive Katie Schwarzmann, and Kasey Howard playing strong, the Terps are doing very well. (draw18) — #2. Terps have seen the face guard and the zone D and even the stall ... but probably never in one game as tried by Stony Brook. Didn't work. (johnnyboy) — Stays in my #1. The NE road trip and convincing wins tell me they are the team to beat. (LadyLaker) — #1. Well, the Terps marched through the Northeast and left no doubt ... they still are Top of the Heap. (mytwokeepers) — My rank 1. Continue to win, impress. Maryland my easiest pick to make. (Rafterjack) — #1. Terps head north and keep Eagles grounded, then cross Sound to break Stony Brook stall. (slides2) — #1. (Turtles Lax) — TL PM'ed me that Terps only packed one game worth of goals for Baaston/Lung Guyland double header ... managers broke out too many up in Beantown. (UnderArmourOdor)

Florida: Gators making Duck soup! Stay just behind the Terps at #2. (Artemis3) — I trust you'll understand my comments are fewer and briefer this week. I honestly don't know whether I think Florida or Maryland is the best team in the nation, and I'm not going to flip-flop one and two this week; so the Gators stay on top on my ballot. (DallasLaxDad) — The Gators have such a stacked roster, with Kitty Cullen leading the charge up front. This team has gelled over the last four years, and they have the pieces in place to make another run to Philadelphia. (draw18) — #1. Looking forward to this week's match-up with ... er ... Stetson. Will it be 2013's version of Gator's game vs. Fresno State. (johnnyboy) — Still in my #2. (LadyLaker) — Nothing to say this week, only prayers. (Lionwatcher) — #2. Still perfect, and still in my second spot. (mytwokeepers) — My rank: 2. Perhaps (two, say) "open" dates on schedules might be the rule - then, that way, such as Terps/Gators might be scheduled mid season ... etc.? No? (Rafterjack) — #2. Gators head west to Duck pond and are not particularly bothered by wet weather. (slides2) — #3. (Turtles Lax) — Fowl week for Gators as they chomp both the Mountain Hawks and fly out to defy Ducks. (UnderArmourOdor)

North Carolina: Cannizarro continues to impress. Heels dominate the Hoyas. (Artemis3) — Win over Georgetown solidifies my thinking that the Tar Heels are the third best team in the nation. (DallasLaxDad) — Carolina's depth continues to keep them going strong, and Kara Cannizzaro is leading this team by example. There is talent from the front to the back, and with Lauren Maksym getting stronger, UNC can return to the final weekend. (draw18) — #3. Gave the Hoyas a few more things to work on in practice this week. (johnnyboy) — #3. Scoring 15 against High Point and then 17 against Georgetown, UNC has seems to have found their offensive stride. Hold solid in the third slot. (mytwokeepers) — My rank: 5. (Rafterjack) — #3. Abbey is Tar Heels' best Friend; plus, two-headed goalie working surprisingly well. (slides2) — #2. (Turtles Lax) — Hoyas have no complaints or paranoia, as Heels put them underfoot on a dry Fetzer. (UnderArmourOdor)

Northwestern: Hard-fought blood bath at Navy, easy win vs. Harvard. The Cats look more consistent. (Artemis3) — Given a run for their money by the Mids. Still no. 5. (DallasLaxDad) — Erin Fitzgerald has gotten on a hot streak, and she is not backing down. With the emergence of Gabrielle Flibotte into a household name in Evanston in the backfield, and Bridget Bianco continuing to get stronger, NU is poised well. (draw18) — #4. At least the top 4 are easier to rank than the rest of the top 20, but Navy put up better competition for the Cats than anyone expected. (johnnyboy) — #4. Despite the hard fought victory in the "Battle of the Midship(wo)men," Northwestern holds tight at the fourth position. (mytwokeepers) — My rank: 3. Sticking with Cats ... in the long run are still champs and the team new champs must beat. (Rafterjack) — #4. Take a licking from Navy but keep on ticking. 'Cats handle Harvard easily at home while fans freeze fannies off. (slides2) — #4. (Turtles Lax) — The Deathstar sustains serious structural damage from heavy Navy broadsides but survives and reeks vengeance on peaceful Hahvahd Yahd. (UnderArmourOdor)

Syracuse: A week off should help the Orange regroup. (Artemis3) — Didn't play and stay at no. 8. (DallasLaxDad) — The Orange keep coming together, and with the overall talent this team has, they will be well-positioned to make a run deep in the tournament. You can't coach experience, and this team has a ton of that. (draw18) — #5. Pretty sure Syracuse won't mind, since they were idle this week, that I use their space to send condolences to the Seton Hill Lady Griffin players, family and friends on the tragic loss their coach, Kristina Quigley, and their driver, Anthony Guattta. Heaven is painted Crimson and Gold. (johnnyboy) — #5. Holds steady in the fifth slot despite the week off. (mytwokeepers) — My rank: 4. Hoya coach says (John Thompson's g. son), Why're they going down 'Tobacco Road' for a few dollars? I agree. But I see them somehow hanging on in this arena and rising to contest for one of the top four spots ultimately. (Rafterjack) — #5. Orange have week off, but could be seen in stands at Navy/Northwestern, perhaps taking notes on black and blue tactics to use on 'Cats. (slides2) — #7. (Turtles Lax)

Duke: A little sloppy against a good Jacksonville team. A solid win vs. Dartmouth. (Artemis3) — I had Dartmouth all the way up to no. 9 in last week's poll - so the very convincing win over Dartmouth confirms this no. 4 vote for the Blue Devils. (DallasLaxDad) — #6. Duke putting up more solid wins this week over Jacksonville and Dartmouth. (johnnyboy) — #6. Beating Dartmouth secures the sixth slot on my poll. (mytwokeepers) — My rank: 6. Got right out on top of Dartmouth from the start. Good job. (Rafterjack) — #6. Devils appear to have found themselves a goalie in Kelsey Duryea. (slides2) — #6. (Turtles Lax) — Duke gets sunburned and fails to impress after sun and beach time in Jacksonville, but get serious at home and cut down Big Green. (UnderArmourOdor)

Notre Dame: Tough, gritty win against Vandy. (Artemis3) — The Irish continue to flirt with the loss column but continue to win - and therefore stay at no. 6. (DallasLaxDad) — #7. Gotta say I was underwhelmed by the Irish win over Vandy this week with so so many turnovers, but they are still unbeaten. (johnnyboy) — #7. Helped by the week off, Notre Dame remains undefeated. (mytwokeepers) — My rank: 9. Never really sure where to put these (big) fellows (ND, PSU, OSU, etc.) and certainly NOT impressed with one-goal win over Vandy. Will, for today (is St. Pat's Day as I conjecture and fabricate rankings here ... ) look the other way ... I guess. Only played six games! (Rafterjack) — #8. Irish continue to under-perform, barely fending off rally by subpar Vandy, but they keep winning. (slides2) — #9. (Turtles Lax) — Irish party this St. Pat’s weekend after luck of the Irish allows escaping a Rayna James-Juliette Barnes cat-fight in Nashville with the unranked Dores. (UnderArmourOdor)

Georgetown: They dominated Hopkins, but the Heels were too much. Overall, a good week for the Hoyas. (Artemis3) — Fall to no. 9 with the loss to North Carolina. (DallasLaxDad) — The Hoyas have quietly established themselves as a solid team up and down the field, with key players making contributions that not only make the rest of the team better but also put GU into a position to control the game. (draw18) — #8. Hoyas put some distance between themselves and the lesser-ranked top 20 with a convincing win over Hopkins. Loss to UNC shows there is still much to accomplish if they want to climb higher. (johnnyboy) — #10. Last in the Top Ten. (mytwokeepers) — My rank: 8. Despite some losses, Georgetown is a better team than a year ago. (Rafterjack) — #10. By beating Hopkins and losing to UNC, Hoyas settle into accustomed niche of a few years ago: at or near the top of the second echelon. (slides2) — #14. (Turtles Lax) — Hoya’s two roadies this week start well. Administer a beating at Homewood but end unable to pull off the upset in Chapel Hill, running out of gas in the last third of the game. (UnderArmourOdor)

Cornell: Big Red with big wins ... Penn State and Albany. (Artemis3) — The undefeated Big Red jump up to no. 7 - it'll be interesting to see how Cornell fares against the Tar Heels this week. (DallasLaxDad) — The Big Red showed their mettle by battling through a couple tough games, and that experience will play a major role in how far they go into May. (draw18) — #10. Cornell doubters (I was one) take notice. Big Red stay undefeated with two hard fought wins over PSU and Albany. (johnnyboy) — #8. Big leap in my poll for defeating Penn State. (mytwokeepers) — My rank: 10. Came from behind against Danes. May be real deal, Big Red. Keep playing up to and beyond expectations, a good sign. But Danes, PSU, alas, not Carolina. And Penn and Princeton will come to play. (Rafterjack) — #7. Sarah Hefner making a difference on DCs as Big Red tough out close wins against Penn St. and Albany. I had seriously thought graduation losses would make this team a non-contender this year. Shows how much I know. (slides2) — #5. (Turtles Lax) — Big Red moves to the head of the class in the Ivy League by beating PSU. Almost squanders it, but roars back against the Great Danes to remain undefeated until Wednesday. (UnderArmourOdor)

Penn State: A tough loss to Cornell but a nice rebound against Vandy. (Artemis3) — No. 12. (DallasLaxDad) — #12. Lost a close one to the Big Red of Cornell. (johnnyboy) — #11. Beating Vanderbilt stopped a losing skid and preserved the "Best of the Second Ten" ranking. (mytwokeepers) — #13. Trip to Cayuga's waters ends sadly in OT, but Lions regain some bit of mojo in shootout over Vandy. (slides2) — #11. (Turtles Lax) — We Are ... starts the week with a bad roadie to the Big Red but bounce back in Hullabaloo Hall torpedoing the Commodores. (UnderArmourOdor)

Virginia: A nice win against Princeton, dominated Bill and Mary. Don't count the Hoos out. (Artemis3) — Now that they're back to .500, the Hoos get back on my ballot but only to no. 18 for now. (DallasLaxDad) — #13. Cavaliers at 4-4, deja vu 2012. (johnnyboy) — #12. Their 4-4 record is not impressive, but single-goal losses to 'Cuse, PSU, and UNC are not really an embarrassment. (mytwokeepers) — My rank: 7. Not of the premier caliber ... but certainly do function as an 'acid test' for wannabes, teams who think they maybe deserve better. (Rafterjack) — #9. Hoos put Tidewater cousins to shame and then hold off stubborn Princeton. (slides2) — #17. (Turtles Lax) — Hoos pound Williamsburg’s couple and survive the always vicious rivalry with the big Cats from Princeton. (UnderArmourOdor)

Johns Hopkins: Looked over-matched vs. Georgetown, but the Jays rebounded nicely against GW. (Artemis3) — Earlier win over Loyola doesn't look as impressive now. The Blue Jays fall to 16. (DallasLaxDad) — #15. Hop was humbled by one George on Wednesday and humbles a second George on Saturday. (johnnyboy) — Blue Jays fall this week. (LadyLaker) — #16. Georgetown made the Hop look mediocre. I had been previously impressed with the Blue Jays' win over Loyola, but that has proved to have less shine than I thought. Down to my 16th slot. (mytwokeepers) — #15. Mixed results with the Georges: lose to Georgetown but beat George Washington. (slides2) — #15. (Turtles Lax) — After bad loss to G-town, Jays beat GW soundly but no rest as I saw them having a Sunday spring break practice at Homewood. (UnderArmourOdor)

Dartmouth: Duke dominated the Big Green, but this team is a good one. (Artemis3) — The Big Green fall a few spots to 14. (DallasLaxDad) — #14. Was hoping for a better showing by the Big Green ... didn't get it. (johnnyboy) — #9. Despite being beaten by Duke, this loss doesn't hurt the Green. (mytwokeepers) — My rank: 18. Weak results at Duke - lowering Green several levels. Dartmouth struggling with free position shots both for and against (Blue Devils 8 for 10!). Forced Giovanniello to make 11 saves. (Rafterjack) — #12. Green simply cannot run with the big girls. (slides2) — #16. (Turtles Lax) — No repeat of last year, as Duke starved the Small Green offense, giving them only 12 shots, while the Devils sprayed 32 shots at the other end. (UnderArmourOdor)

Stony Brook: Interesting game against Maryland, but they show improvement each week. (Artemis3) — No. 11. (DallasLaxDad) — This team has talent on both sides of the ball, and with Michelle Rubino leading the charge for the Seawolves and Frankie Caridi getting more recognition for her tough play in the cage, SB is ruling the island ... and can play a major factor in the nation. (draw18) — #11. A slow-down stall seems to me to be the wrong tactic against a traveling team that might have been a little leg weary coming off a game the previous day ... AND didn't adjust out of it when behind after it didn't work. (johnnyboy) — Held MD to 8 goals. Even with a loss, that counts. (LadyLaker) — #15. Stony Brook had the opportunity to prove how good they were by playing the Terps. Instead, they decided not to engage Maryland and keep the score close by stalling when behind. No swagger in that strategy. (mytwokeepers) — My rank: NOLO. Roses are red, Rafter is blue - I certainly don't want any more contretemps with cousin Larry, so I'm leaving this one ... up to you. (Rafterjack) — #14. After warm-up with Marist, Seawolves keep Terps on ropes for a half but ultimately resort to useless stall. (slides2) — #19. (Turtles Lax) — Seawolves welcome the Traveling Turtles and put the clamps on scoring so much they forget to score much either. (UnderArmourOdor)

Navy: I'm not sure the Mids will have continued success with upwards of 40 fouls, but they seemed to rattle Northwestern enough to make things interesting. They rebounded nicely with a one-goal win over UNH. (Artemis3) — The Mids showed they belong and now complete my top 10. (DallasLaxDad) — #9. Remembering Lt. Valerie Cappelaere Delaney, who helped the Middies establish their NCAA Division I program, who was lost this week in a plane crash. (johnnyboy) — Navy goes to my #11. Still don't believe they can beat the 10 in front of them. (LadyLaker) — #21. Going to overtime against a very weak New Hampshire team takes the luster off the NU game. The Mids drop out of the Top 20. (mytwokeepers) — #11. Middies give Northwestern a scare but almost get a taste of their own medicine from UNH. (slides2) — #8. (Turtles Lax) — Mids are the new face of Stop Bullying Now! after taking it to the newly touchy-feely Stormtroopers! Get OT win over NH and snowed under league-mates Bucknell. (UnderArmourOdor)

Denver: Bill Tierney isn't the only coach in Denver with a good team. The lady Pios look solid. (Artemis3) — No reason to move the Pioneers, who stay at 17. (DallasLaxDad) — #20. Pioneers return to challenge for a spot in my top 20. (johnnyboy) — #14. Still winning and "Moving' on up." (mytwokeepers) — #18. Knock off a dangerous BU. Loss to Delaware looking more credible after Blue Hens beat Loyola. (slides2) — #12. (Turtles Lax) — “Pioneers Tame Bulldogs” is the press release from last week they should have gone with "Pioneers Tame Dogs" ... could have used it again this week in beating BU Terriers. (UnderArmourOdor)

Stanford: No game. (Artemis3) — No. 19. (DallasLaxDad) — #16. Cardinal have to be noticing success of Denver. (johnnyboy) — #13. First in the West; 13th in my poll. (mytwokeepers) — #16. Idle this week but bump up a spot as others fall. (slides2) — Take over two weeks off before coming east again. (UnderArmourOdor)

Massachusetts: Dominated Vermont. (Artemis3) — Still on my watch list. (DallasLaxDad) — #18. UMass back to racking up Ws with victories over Vermont and Sacred Heart this week. (johnnyboy) — #20. Convincing win over Vermont. (slides2) — #13. (Turtles Lax) — UMass shows no heart to Sacred Heart, putting 21 on them! (UnderArmourOdor)

James Madison: The Dukes are impressive - add two wins, including OT victory at Loyola and stay at 15. (DallasLaxDad) — Casey Ancarrow has been on the radar for a number of years, and her experience, coupled with strong play from Ali Curwin and Schuyler Healy in the cage, have positioned the Dukes to make some noise in the CAA. (draw18) — Dukes get my attention this week - on my watch list now. (johnnyboy) — JMU makes biggest move. Duked it out with two good teams and won. (LadyLaker) — #18. Beating the Greyhounds made me take a closer look at the Dukes. At 5-1, they get the nod at 18. (mytwokeepers) — My rank: 25. Moving back onto secondary list. Some strong play vs. Loyola etc. But loss to PSU makes them still some iffy. Waiting for longer grass? (Rafterjack) — #17. Time to recognize some good things going on in the Valley. (slides2) — #20. (Turtles Lax) — Dukes surprise Hounds in OT but like getting the Hoos in the tall grass in the Valley mid-week before seeing no grass, no hope in College Park! (UnderArmourOdor)

Princeton: Tough loss vs. the Hoos. Should be able to rebound this week. (Artemis3) — The Tigers show that they have the personnel to match up with a number of teams around the country, and with the leadership of the veterans combined with the talent of the newcomers, Princeton is very much on the scene. (draw18) — Tigers still looking for first win over a ranked team. (johnnyboy) — Tigers trip to Hooville doesn’t end in an upset, but this match-up is always hard fought rivalry! (UnderArmourOdor)

Louisville: No. 20. (DallasLaxDad) — The Cards have been able to back up their early season success thanks to players like Katie Olivero and the talent of Monica Negron in the draw circle. Ashley Herbst is having quite a good start to her season. (draw18) — #17. Cardinals dash Drexel hopes for a chance at top 20 ranking instead making a stronger case for their candidacy. (johnnyboy) — #19. Cards travel to Philly and squeeze by Drexel. (slides2) — #10. (Turtles Lax) — Cards blow out wins continue against Detroit mid-week but comes to an end on Sunday, and they get a one-goal win against Drexel! (UnderArmourOdor)

Connecticut: Still undefeated and now no. 13. (DallasLaxDad) — #19. Huskies undefeated and still under the radar. Interested to see how they do with Syracuse this week. (johnnyboy) — #20. At 6-0, the Huskies have cracked my Top 20. (mytwokeepers) — #18. (Turtles Lax) — Huskies 6-0 making waves as undefeated team until trip to Syracuse will end this fashionable dark horses run. (UnderArmourOdor)

Loyola: The loss to Delaware is the final straw as the Greyhounds have proven they do not belong in the top 20. (DallasLaxDad) — Benefit of the doubt is gone, as there is no question now about a season of struggles by the Hounds ... drop from my top 20. (johnnyboy) — Out of my top 20 . (LadyLaker) — #19. March came in like a Lion and has beat up on the Greyhounds with three straight losses. (mytwokeepers) — My rank: 15. What should I do with such as Loyola? Never seen them drop so many. T.L., you in charge here? Fall in! (Rafterjack) — #21. Cannot figure this team out. They look to have all the pieces for a Top 10 contender, but so far, nada. (slides2) — Hound Dog week as one-goal upset by Blue Hens is followed by OT loss to Dawgs from the tall grass of the Shenandoah Valley! (UnderArmourOdor)

Towson: Still liking the Tigers from Towson and believing they can be a late-season spoiler. (LadyLaker) — #24. What's with the Tigers? Life getting no better with Hopkins and Maryland coming up. CAA looking more wide open than expected. (slides2) — Losing to Spiders cuts any webbing holding the Tigers in the Top 20 doesn’t but the Hop was practicing on Sunday, so I think downward spiral continues! (UnderArmourOdor)

Boston University: #23. Terriers don't have the depth to keep up with the top teams, but they do have Danielle Etrasco. (slides2) — Terriers loss to Denver drops them down but not as far down as Buckeyes (what idiot polls still have them ranked ... not TOPTM!). (UnderArmourOdor)

Oregon: #17. At 17, I probably give the Ducks too much credit, but hey, it's my vote! (mytwokeepers) — #22. Modest winning streak ends when Florida comes to visit. (slides2)

Drexel: Lost out on a move back to my top 20 with loss to Louisville. (johnnyboy) — #21. (Turtles Lax)

Rutgers: Now on my watch list. (DallasLaxDad) — Rutgers now stands at 6-1, flirting with the revolving door of my top 20. (johnnyboy) — My rank: 20. Time for them to make this list with record now 6-1 and victories over Penn, Hofstra, etc. Have Princeton this week (Tues.) always tough for Scarlet Knights, Tigers. (Rafterjack) — #23. (Turtles Lax)

UMBC: #25. Easy win over Mount St. Mary's. (slides2) — #22. (Turtles Lax)

Temple:

Ohio State: My rank: 21. Buckeyes out of top 20. Not team (yet?) of yore (2012). Not even (can't therefore ... blame on) erratic. (Rafterjack)

Delaware: A huge win for the Blue Hens against Loyola. Another good performance vs. Lafayette. (Artemis3)

Other Teams Pollsters Considered (and comments, if any)

. Hofstra:

. Jacksonville: Impressive even in loss to Duke. Still just off my ballot. (DallasLaxDad)

. Brown:

. Albany:

. Penn: My rank: 22. Long time since I didn't have Penn in top 20, moreover, in top 10! Expect will be temporary. (Rafterjack)

. La Salle: #24. (Turtles Lax)

. San Diego State: #25. (Turtles Lax)
