US Lacrosse Trivia Quiz #5 LaxPower Lacrosse "Scholar-Athlete" School Rating |
- US News and World Report has published in their August 30, 1999 issue their rankings
- of the top academic institutions in the nation. In their rankings, they rate "Academic
- Reputation Score" for each school from 0.0 to 5.0. The "best" schools are ranked near
- 5.0. LaxPower has taken the 1999 lacrosse power ratings of each school (normalized
- to 5.0 for the best teams) and multiplied them by that schools academic rating to yield
- a "lacrosse scholar-athlete rating" which is a measure of not only a school's success on
- the (1999) playing field but also a measure of its rating in the classroom. In other words,
- an evaluation of the schools that produce the best "scholar-athletes". The US News and
- Report determines the "scholar" part of the formula and LaxPower determines the
- "Athleticism". The results are listed on separate tables for both men and women. For
- those high school students and/or parents searching for a college, all three rating
- columns should be evaluated. The academic number is an indication of the degree of
- difficulty in getting into the school whereas the power-rating is an indication of the
- chances of making/playing on the lacrosse team. The best schools have a "reputation"
- of 4.0 or greater. The best lacrosse teams have a power rating of 4.0 or greater. LaxPower
- has no relation with US News and World Report and the magazine cover was modified
- as a "spoof".
