Automatic Qualifiers and At-Large Teams|
The Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship consists of a field of 30 teams, of which 20 are determined by conferences (Pool A) that receive automatic qualification (AQ). Five berths (Pool B) are reserved for independents and teams from conferences that do not receive an AQ. Five berths (Pool C) are reserved for teams remaining from automatic-qualifying conferences that did not win their AQ berth. There are no predetermined regional allocations for Pools B and C.
Teams must play at least 10 games in the traditional season against Division III opponents to be considered for selection. To be considered as an automatic berth (Pool A) or an at-large berth (Pool B and Pool C), an institution must play at least 70 percent of its competition against Division III in-region opponents, unless a waiver has been approved by the Division III Championships Committee.

Miscellaneous Selection Information
Input is also provided by regional advisory committees. However, coaches' or other polls or rankings are not used by the selection committee.
Although teams are assigned to evaluation regions, the NCAA also considers games versus Division III opponents located within 200 miles of its campus to be "in-region" and part of the primary selection/ranking criteria. In-region also includes any conference play as well as competition in an institution's geographic region (see the Pre-Championship Manual for the details).
